Sudden thought.

Galdorstones give whatever spell you cast while holding one “a big power boost”. Graye’s earring is “a handy little magic amplifier.”

The galdorstones are traditionally watched over by illusionists, who supposedly gain no powers from them and so are the least likely to use them for evil... but there’s mentions of them supposedly making possible “high-def party tricks” so it seems less like they don’t amplify illusions and more like people don’t think amplified illusions are dangerous.

Graye doesn’t know where the galdorstones are kept-- seems like even other illusionists aren’t exactly fond of him-- but he does know they exist and what they do.

Is the lens in his earring a galdorstone chip? They’re even pretty much the same colour, if you allow for lighting differences. I don’t know how he got his hands on it, but I love the idea of this guy using his tiny hoarded treasure to terrorize others, while Gus, who rescued the rest of the galdorstones from those who would exploit them, eventually takes the artifact and uses it in the fight against Belos.

Adrien Graye was apparently having some trouble grasping the nature of Double Trouble’s abilities, which they found almost as funny as it was irritating. They’d been having a good time, right up until he’d called scene and proceeded to make a loop of the set— a dreary meeting hall in a government building— and inform each of his grips and performers exactly how badly they’d failed him, without telling them exactly how. Criticism, Double Trouble understood, was even amused by. This? This was useless. Or, Double Trouble vibe checks Adrien into next week and then they smang.

Hooty's House of Horror

“Thanks for doing this guys,” Luz looked around at her friends as they followed her along the path to the owl house.

“I’m more than happy to assist you with whatever you need,” Hunter replied “But remind me again what this is?”

“Hooty learned about human haunted houses and wanted to do one himself, he’s really excited about it and I don’t want to disappoint him,”

“It’s always best to go along with this and humor Hooty when he gets like this,” Amity added “Hooty always means well, but when he gets enthusiastic things get…chaotic,”

Both her and Luz shuddered simultaneously, remembering the catastrophe that happened after the tunnel of love.

“Well I’m genuinely curious about what Hooty considers scary,” Gus piped up.

They rounded the bend, the house coming into view. Luz was surprised to see Darius standing out front, along with–

“Adrian!?” Hunter said in shock “What are you doing here?”

Adrian Graye Vernworth turned towards them, arms folded and expression sour “Oh joy, the puberty patrol is here. We’ll I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that I’m only here to talk with the bard about rebuilding the concert hall. Then I’ll leave and you can all enjoy your little vermin infested hovel without me,”

“And I’m here to make sure he doesn’t touch anything he’s not supposed to,” Darius said, not even looking up from where he was polishing his nails.

“Well just don’t try anything funny,” Gus spoke up, narrowing his eyes at Adrian “Or I’ll fry your brain again,”

Adrian glowered but did take a step away from Gus.

“Hello friends! How's it going hoot hoot?” Hooty stretched out from the front door.

Adrian yelped and jumped away while Darius staggered back but Luz just smiled.

“Hi Hooty, we’re here for the haunted house!”

“Well then get ready to have your socks scared off!”

Hooty stretched out even further, wrapping all of them, including Darius and Adrien, in his coils.

“Hang on I didn’t agree to–”

“Hands off you filthy–”

Hooty pulled them inside and dumped them all on the living room floor.

“The entrance to Hooty’s House of Horror is right down this hall hoot hoot, enter if you daaaaarrreeeee,”

Hooty flailed and retreated down the hallway, leaving the seven of them to pick themselves up. 

“I did not sign up for this,” Darius grumbled, brushing off his cape.

Amity stepped up to him and patted his shoulder consolingly “It’ll be better to just go along with it. We’ll walk through whatever Hooty’s set up and then you can talk to Raine,”

Darius frowned but didn’t say anything.

“Fine,” Adrian huffed, stomping towards the hallway “The sooner we do this the sooner it’s over with,”

The rest of them followed after, stepping through the hall into the next room.

Luz was so surprised she stopped midstep, several of the others bumping into her.

Most of the haunted houses Luz had been to had dim to low lighting, all the better for costumed actors to hide in. But this room was brightly lit, and the closer she looked, the less it resembled a haunted house.

Paper with grid lines drawn onto it was plastered along the walls and ceiling, covering every inch of the room. Seemingly random objects were scattered everywhere; sponges and clusters of small blue balloons, various bottles of soaps and even rubber duckies.

“What fresh hell is this…” Adrian mumbled.

“I’m glad you asked!” Hooty burst out of the wardrobe, making all of them jump “This room is dedicated to the most horrific ritual known to witch, demon, and humankind. Behold the chamber of Bath time!”

For a few seconds Luz just stood there, blinking in stupefied silence, then she felt her lips twitch up into a smile.

Of course, this was a haunted house designed by Hooty.

“Oh wow Hooty, this is super scary,”

“Yeah,” Willow said, biting back a giggle “I’m shaking in my boots,”

“So terrifying…” Amity nudged Willow with her elbow, both of their cheeks puffed with restrained laughter “You can even smell the soap,”

“Well I find it tacky and tasteless,”

“Vernworth if your opinion is wanted we’ll ask for it,”

“If you guys think this is scary, wait until you see what’s up ahead!”

Hooty slithered away as they followed him to the next room. This one lacked the clutter of ‘The Chamber of Bath time’ instead it was lined on either side by cardboard cutouts. As Luz looked closer she saw she recognized some of them, there was Kikimora, and Odalia, and some of the former covenheads, but not Raine or Darius–

“Here we have a special kind of horrific creature that Eda told me all about,” Hooty rose up and towered over the room “The Suck-up! These creatures will seek out who they perceive to be the most powerful, and immediately start kissing up to them in order to try and get ahead, so terrifying hoot hoot,”

This time Luz had to bite her cheek to keep herself from bursting out laughing. Around her the others were looking the same. Gus had both hands pressed against his mouth and Willow and Amity were shaking and holding each other. Hunter managed to keep his expression neutral but his face was turning purple. Even Darius cracked a smile.

“Hey guys,” a stray chuckle escaped Hunter “This look familiar?” he elbowed one of the cutouts, a cutout that happened to look a lot like Adrian.

A wheeze escaped her as Luz fought to keep the laughter down, all the others doubling over and holding their sides. Darius’s composure breaking and a small chuckle escaping.

One of Adrian’s eyes twitched, his face flushing dark red.

Hooty glanced back and forth between Adrian and the cutout “Wow! Life truly does imitate art, I’m a genius!”

“Let’s just get this over with.” Adrian hissed through gritted teeth, stomping out of the room and down the hall. They followed after him, everyone but Adrian shaking with barely restrained giggles.

Hooty slithered past, retreating down into the basement “And last but not least we have the terror of the human world…” 

Heading down the basement stairs, Luz saw that the only object of note in the basement was a medium sized aquarium set up in the middle of the room. Reaching the bottom, all of them gathered around it with various levels of curiosity on their faces. 

Hooty zoomed around until he encircled the group and the tank “Behold the starfish! This monstrosity native to the non-boiling seas of the human realm consumes its prey by vomiting its intestines on it, the horror!”

Leaning in close to the glass, Luz saw at the bottom what she thought at first was an actual starfish, but after staring for a few seconds she realized it was actually a starfish shaped diving toy.

“Oh wow,” Luz took a half step back, raising her hands in feigned horror “I think it’s coming right at me,”

“Aww don’t worry,” Hooty leaned down towards her “It’s all pretend,”

“We know you’ll protect us Hooty,” Amity patted his side.

Practically glowing at the praise, he turned back to face all of them “That brings us to the end. Thanks for touring Hooty’s House of Horror, please exit through the owl pellet,”

“Oh thank Tit– wait what?”

Hooty swooped forward and swallowed Adrian in one gulp, letting out a small burp “Who’s next?” 

All of them screamed and scrambled towards the basement stairs. Darius grabbing Hunter under one arm and Amity under the other, sprinting up the stairs like his life depended on it.

Drabble: Celestial Illusion Magic

"Magnificent! Truly magnificent!" Adrian Graye Vernworth was absolutely in awe as Colli Clawthorne-Noceda-Deamonne-Whispers showed him his illusion magic skills. Colli, who didn't have a bilesac, didn't need to draw circles to use his magic.

Every cell of Colli's body was filled to the brim with his celestial magic. The small starboy with otherworldly fluffy lavender hair and a heart of gold created beautiful illusions of the Universe. Different planets, black holes, and even the birth of a sun!

The kindhearted eternal child had a bright smile on his adorable multi-colored face as he happily floated through the room. Colli's excited expression really warmed Adrian's heart. He cared a lot about the immortal celestial boy.
