Hello again! I'm back with another That '70s Show original script. This time we'll be looking at S3xE23 "Backstage Pass"!
This one is extra special because of who it belonged to - one Corey Landis. And it's a table draft, which means there were quite a few changes (some of them significant!). Read on for my summary.
Tumblr media
Who's Corey Landis? you may ask. Fair question.
Tumblr media
He is the actor who plays a young Red Forman a few different times throughout the series! It's really cool to see the different notes he wrote to himself about how a scene should be staged or acted.
First up, right off the bat the cold open has some different lines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, the scene still ends in the same place and most of what the characters say is similar. You can see how they made it slightly shorter in the episode.
I like that Fez is interested in the soybean futures lol, that in the actual episode Eric's line was, "Pork belly prices. How cute is that?" instead, and that LP might've improvised her bit about forgetting to turn off the microphone (or it was added by a writer/producer in a later version of the script).
Eric and Donna's next scene is virtually the same, except for one major difference...
... the band they went to see was originally going to be Aerosmith! In the actual episode, they went to see Ted Nugent. There must have been some kind of licensing issue with being able to use Aerosmith. It's a significant difference, though, because this episode would've continued the characterization that Donna has a crush on Steven Tyler.
There's also this funny, cut moment at the end of Eric and Donna's scene at the radio station:
Tumblr media
Now onto the parents.
Some more Bob and Midge lore:
Tumblr media
Red and Kitty's interaction is nearly word for word, but check out the actor's notes from the table read!! Pretty cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next scene sees the gang waiting for the Aerosmith Ted Nugent concert to begin. And again it's similar, though not identical, to the scene that aired - Jackie and Kelso discuss their week of romance, Eric and Donna are eager for the concert to begin, and Fez and Hyde reveal their misspelled concert merch.
I was robbed of another Eric & Donna kiss (and a hug!), though 😡 + Eric calling her his "best girl". 🥹
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next we're back to the parents.
Red is still trying to remember how he and Kitty really met, and Kitty is becoming increasingly upset. In the episode she told him her version of events at this point, but in the script it is dragged out a little longer.
The Packer refrigerator magent line made me chuckle, ngl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back at the concert. This scene is again nearly identical to what really aired, but I enjoyed Kelso's Aerosmith versions of the songs he changed for Jackie. 😂
Tumblr media
Then we check in on Fez and Hyde, who are struggling to sell their misprinted t-shirts just like in the episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Donna's scene backstage is word for word, except she's interviewing Steven Tyler instead of Ted Nugent.
In the next scene, Fez and Hyde get arrested. The scene is practically the same, except we get a little more insight into how upset Eric is with Donna. "Tonight was supposed to be about us," 😫. And I like Fez's Cheryl Tiegs line from the actual episode better.
Tumblr media
Then the script cuts back to Red and Kitty. It's basically the same scene from the actual episode, but with a few added details. Horseface Lynn Taylor is mentioned again 🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Eric's scene with the janitor (Stanley!!), and Donna's scene backstage where Ted/Steven offers to let her touch the guitar are word for word.
Kelso and Jackie's storyline and lines are mostly unchanged throughout, but this added line from Eric at the end of their final scene made me 😂🤣
Tumblr media
Then we're back to Red and Kitty to conclude their storyline for the episode. The scene starts out the exact same, but ends with slightly different lines.
I just love getting to see the actor's notes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally, the biggest difference of all: in the script, Eric and Donna's final scene takes place in the Forman basement, not outside of the concert venue. I'm glad they changed that, because all I can think is: how did Donna get home that night? Even though he was pissed, Eric really left her there? No no no no no. 😣 I think it's much more in character that he waited.
I do like that in the script Donna at least actually apologized - in the episode, she didn't. It's widely acknowledged within the fandom that this is one of Donna's worst moments on the show, regardless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As one of the final episodes of season 3, this episode/storyline was integral to setting the stage for Eric and Donna's emerging break-up and it does the job. The original script even more so than the actual episode, in my opinion.
Well, that's all I've got for this one! Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more in the series. I'm your *very* pregnant and uncomfortable host, @thatseventiesbitch 😄.
Other Scripts I've Posted:
S2xE20 "Kiss of Death" S2xE22 "Jackie Moves On" S2xE23 "Holy Crap!" S2xE26 "Moon Over Point Place" S5xE21 "Trampled Under Foot" S6xE20 "Squeezebox" S7xE8 "Angie"

Miraculous fanart: Cerisette/Lilanette Re-Verse (MLB Femslash February/Rock Band AU)
Tumblr media
Day 15: Marinette and Lila/Cerise (Faulty; Rock)
This is the full colored version of the Cerisette Rock Band AU.
This happens in the Re-Verse from the Miraculous Paris special: Lila/Cerise and Marinette play rock music and form a duo together before merging with the Kitty Resistance (Rose, Juleka, Luka and Ivan). Lila/Cerise plays electric guitar and Marinette plays keyboard. And they make an illegal concert. In this AU, the Supreme from the Re-Verse has forbidden the music. The latter's logo gets vandalized.
Lila/Cerise's hair is a wig with a sky-blue dye. Marinette is just Emonette-Shadybug.
Marinette is the Ladybug and Cerise is the new Hesperia for this concept.
We can see Marinette is blushing about her music partner.
About their music, the two girls compose the instrumental part. It's the band Kitty Resistance who perfoms the vocal and parts.
This fanart is made for the @mlbfemslashfebruary event.

Remembering Marty Callner 1947-2025
Sad news that director Marty Callner has died at 78. He directed a number of iconic music videos and countless concert and comedy TV specials.
Tumblr media
Callner and Cook
I was lucky enough to work with him on two specials both of which aired on HBO: Dane Cook: Vicious Circle (filmed at TD Garden in Boston in 2006) and Justin Timberlake: FutureSex/LoveShow (filmed at Madison Square Garden in NYC in 2007). I was a lowly production assistant on both. I did not work closely with Mr. Callner, but it was quite a thrill to watch him working in the filming of live events, which can be unpredictable to say the least. I thought it was so cool to have my name in the credits of two Callner productions!
After starting in local news in Ohio, he made his way to directing Boston Celtics games and that background in live events got him in at the ground floor of the early days of HBO and over the last 50 years, he directed numerous comedy specials (too many to list all) for the likes of Robert Klein (considered to be the very first stand-up special), George Carlin, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Will Ferrell and Pee-Wee Herman's specials too! For concert specials he did ones for Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Hall & Oates, Pat Benatar, The Rolling Stones, and more.
From his live music experience he was one of the biggest music video directors of the 80s and 90s, the Golden Age of Music Video if you will! Countless music videos (too many to list) but ones for Laura Branigan, Twisted Sister (he did "We're Not Gonna Take It" and more), Pat Benatar, Heart, The Scorpions, Kiss, Whitesnake (he directed the famous Tawney Kitaen-starring "Here I Go Again"), Poison, Ratt, The Cult, Cher (he directed the too-hot-to-play-before-9PM "If I Could Turn Back Time"), Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Bon Jovi, and more! Wow - MTV from 1984-1994 would have looked very different without him.
Tumblr media
Callner directing Steven Tyler
But, for me, it was his longtime collaboration with Aerosmith that was one of the great director / musician collaborations of all-time. He became friends with the band early in his career and he directed their videos for "Dream On", "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)", "Angel", "Rag Doll", "Love in an Elevator", "The Other Side", their "Dream On" segment of the MTV 10th Anniversary Special, "Sweet Emotion", "Livin' on the Edge", "Cryin'", "Amazing", "Crazy", and "Blind Man"! Wow - that is quite a collection and he brought their music to a whole new audience. He was also a film consultant for the Aerosmith segment in Wayne's World 2!

A Guns N' Roses masterpiece, usually the last song in every setlist, “Paradise City” was the sixth track for debut studio album Appetite for Destruction.
Slash has mentioned numerous times that “Paradise City” is his favorite Guns N' Roses song. This was the first song that the original Guns N' Roses lineup of Slash, Steven Adler, Duff McKagan, Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin wrote together - all five members are credited as writers.
Slash said that the band was drinking and playing acoustic guitars, when he came up with the intro. Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin started playing along. Slash started humming a melody when Axl Rose sang, "Take me down to the Paradise City." Slash chimed in with "Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty."
"Paradise City" was partly filmed at Giants Stadium in New Jersey while Guns N' Roses were on tour with Aerosmith and midway through the video, they are seen boarding the Concorde jet so they could make an appearance in England, and return as quickly as possible back to the USA to continue touring with one of their major influences. The concert in England is the Monsters of Rock event at Donington Park.

Sonic the Oz-Hog Act 2/12: All My Friends are Echidnapped!
Sonic the Hedgehog issue 244 AU Publication Date: 20th February 2013 Price: $6.50
Tumblr media
Back for more, eh? Unfortunately the time has come for a shocking second installment in these monthly musings of hedgehog history. Why? Maybe it's the masochist in me. Nostalgic pertinence? Stockholm Syndrome? Whichever way, reflecting on the past can be a merciless drug. Archie Sonic is long cancelled and unlikely to be of any further significance within my lifetime, so where lies the point of writing these posts nobody would rightfully read anyway?
Lunacy. Sheer lunacy.
If this is the result of two posts, part twelve will likely be DOA. When one considers the legacy of pointless shouting matches, ego stroking and litigations this comic suffered equally as it caused, giving it any thoughts beyond apoplectic is almost self-destructive. Still, if the book's vivid international history is to ever see the light of day again, guess I must make use of whatever avenues are at hand. Thus in the epic tradition of another 12-part pop culture event, if last month's introspective retrospective on Sonic Super Special 3 was a 'Nightmare Begins' scenario, then now comes a true 'Day of Armageddon'.
It's 20th February. Among the dwindling selection of comic books available across newsagents was a new high-speed hedgehog adventure. A multi-part story many moons in the making handled by a long-time writer which saw Knuckles take front and centre. With cameos from an echidna cast, he faced off against a powerful enemy destined to change the very future of Mobius. A story only superseded by immense publication turmoil that it left writer and editor scrambling by the seats of their pants, leading to a fanbase bitterly disappointed by its depressingly dour and rushed conclusion.
But we're not talking about issue 131. An incredible coincidence to be sure, but hardly a welcome one. Instead let's take a trip forward nine more years to that very same day in 2013.
The state of Australian politics were, as ever, chaotic. Julia Gillard, the nation's first female Prime Minister, was reaching the end of her turbulent three year term in the top job. Despite legislating sweeping changes to assist disabled citizens, better internet, student education and environmental protection, her conservative detractors were ruthless. Be it newspapers, radio or self-aggrandizing musicians, their demands to "burn the witch" were loud and clear, and none more so than misogynistic maestro and onion connoisseur Tony Abbott.
It wouldn't be an Aussie summer without bushfires, and true to form, early 2013 was plentiful. Records for hottest days previously set in January 1998 were smashed. Volunteer firefighters travelled the wide charred land to tame nature's chaos, resulting in multiple deaths. Thankfully the worst had already come to pass by this point as the extreme weather gradually wound down. A difficult recovery time began for many, but with hindsight on our sides, that summer paled compared to the sheer tragedy which awaited us come October.
Life that February wasn't all doom and gloom. Millions of viewers tuned in Channel 10 to watch our home teams weave their way to gold in the Sochi Olympics. Martin Scorsese's adaptation of 'The Wolf of Wall Street' was number one at the box office. Red Hot Chili Peppers led the charge for the 20th Big Day Out concert. Stone Music Festival swept the land later, spearheaded after a last-second venue shift by the triumphant return of Aerosmith, their first Aussie tour in over 20 years. And I suppose it's worth a mention how 'Harlem Shake' toppled P!nk and Nate Ruess' dominance of the charts for a grand total of… one week.
Baauer wasn't the only one left shaking. Upon conclusion of the 20th anniversary tale 'Genesis', a discontent among Archie Sonic readers began to seep across message boards. Questions and critiques over the book's direction, plus whether editorial or SEGA were responsible, became increasingly frequent topics of fiery debate. A sentiment which reached a peak by the time Sonic Universe's 'Scrambled' arc ran its course, ultimately spilling over to the BumbleKing Forums.
In response, Ian Flynn called an official "State of the Books" topic on 11th May 2012 for fans to civilly discuss their grievances. It's important to remember the fanbase was already running on knife's edge since certain litigations were announced back in July 2010, which intentionally or unintentionally influenced several commentators. Critiques over its 48 pages ranged from slowly erasing the Freedom Fighters in favour of game characters, a meandering plot going around in circles, Sonic himself being a boring hero, a lack of Knuckles, to forced melodrama and a constant string of depressing losses (complaints fans already aired to former writers a decade earlier. Oh, the more things change…). In spite of fan disagreements, civility won the day.
Which sadly could not be said when issue 244 was released. Once it became clear the story was hastily rewritten at the behest of Collen IP to remove legally contentious cast, forum members hit the roof in an intense 34 page debate. "Convoluted and convenient", "This. Development. Sucks!" and "Empty filler" were slung around. Nor was veteran artist Steven Butler spared, yet again heavily criticized for his page layouts and character proportions. One optimistic commentator opined "Why do i have a feeling that when issue 245 comes out everybody that was worrying a lot is going to wind up loving this arc?". A resolution they'd have to find elsewhere after the thread was locked.
"Where is everyone?" Knuckles yelled on the first page as he wandered into the abandoned wasteland of Albi-erm, echidna homeland. A good question, rad red. Perhaps they're all hung over after last night's Cliff Richard in Melbourne concert.
'Endangered Species' is Archie's ultimate Monkey's Paw story. The mind boggles how this same company who infamously toppled Dan DeCarlo and set creators rights back to the stone age ended up firing their own legal team. What should read like an Outhousers article is now part of Sonic's history. Yet for all the readers upset over cast culling, plenty more made it shamelessly clear they approved the move.
Page 11's "Now then -- to clean up the garbage." became a call to arms for fans sick of the series' expansive echidna cast. After 'Return to Angel Island' set the standard, they were poised, primed, ready for latter-era Archie Sonic to continue its indulgence in some permanent eth-chidna cleansing. No matter the character or relevance to the plot, "And nothing of value was lost" echoed across BumbleKing and beyond. A selfishly spiteful sentiment people steadfastly hold to this very day.
T(h)rash would be proud.
Next Time: Swing back to March 2001, a time where Sonic faced a foe far greater than any robo scientist or machine monkey could dare compare. The very real and deadly threat that was… mass unemployment? Had things behind the scenes truly gotten that bad for Riverdale's top-selling high-speed hero? Absolutely. But for Australia, it was Friday.

The Best and Worst of the Grammys
Billie Eilish won big, Aerosmith and Run-D.M.C. made a glorious mess, and the show faced the challenge of having to respond quickly to Kobe Bryant’s death.
https://web.archive.org/web/20200127174112im_/https://static01.nyt.com/images/2020/01/27/arts/27grammys-billie-sub/merlin_167895759_ed12d0c7-178f-40ca-9613-51b8bd49a52c-superJumbo.jpg?quality=90&auto=webp
The 62nd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday were going to take place in the shadow of a scandal: the removal of the Recording Academy chief Deborah Dugan 10 days before the event and the stinging allegations of misconduct at the nonprofit that oversees the awards that she outlined in a complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Instead, they took place in the aftermath of tragedy: the death of Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash at 41. The host Alicia Keys was tasked with responding to the basketball star’s death on-air; she chose to make a statement about “respect” after what she called “a hell of a week,” too.
Here are the show’s highlights and lowlights as we saw them.
Best Coronation: Billie Eilish
It’s been a long time since a phenomenon as talented, authentic, complex and delightfully of-the-moment as Billie Eilish took over the Grammys. She turned five of her six nominations into wins, victorious in all four major categories (album, song and record of the year, plus best new artist), becoming the first artist to sweep since Christopher Cross in 1981. At 18, she’s the youngest person to win album of the year. It is all richly deserved: “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” redefines teen-pop stardom, as Jon Pareles wrote in his review of the album. Eilish (working with her producer brother, Finneas O’Connell) digs her shapely talons into the conflicts that throb in our minds like her meticulously constructed tracks: anxiety and confidence, love and terror, fairy tales and reality. She is a genuine melting pot of pop history — goths, rappers, confessional singer-songwriters, all tucked into baggy clothes that defy all kinds of stereotypes. “Why,” she cried into the microphone as she accepted her first televised award, for song of the year. “Aye yi yi,” she started her second, for best new artist. “Please don’t be me,” she mouthed as album of the year was being announced. Finneas spoke up during their speech for the LP: “We wrote an album about depression and suicidal thoughts and climate change and being the ‘Bad Guy,’ whatever that means,” he said, “and we stand up here confused and grateful.” It was simply proof that sometimes the music industry does get it right. CARYN GANZ
Best Flown-in Flute: Lizzo
Ever the savvy trouper, Lizzo maximized her opening slot. “Tonight is for Kobe!” she proclaimed at the start, then launched into her screaming, rasping, sobbing, pealing “Cuz I Love You,” in a monumental black dress. An orchestral interlude threatened to turn “Truth Hurts” into Grammy kitsch, but it was just long enough for a costume change — then Lizzo was back with rhymes, skintight sequins, dancers and kiss-off sass. A flute descended on a plastic tray; she played just enough showy trills and runs, then growled harder to finish the song. If a prime-time network audience hadn’t already known who Lizzo is, they knew now. JON PARELES
Worst Use of an Award Presentation: Comedy Album
It’s conventional wisdom at this point that the Grammys are more of a concert special than an awards show, but presenting the trophy for best comedy album on a night where only nine awards were given over nearly four hours was absurd. On Sunday, that insult to musicians was compounded when Dave Chappelle won for the third straight year in the category — it’s not like they were giving a new face some shine — and then compounded once again by the fact that Chappelle, who might’ve at least given a speech to remember, did not even show up. (Poor Jim Gaffigan, and also every smaller artist in a genre category whose life would’ve been made by accepting a Grammy onstage.) Tanya Tucker accepted on Chappelle’s behalf, giving a halfhearted “I’m sure he thanks y’all.” Right. Sure. JOE COSCARELLI
Best Call to Arms: Sean (Diddy) Combs
There were only the faintest hints of skepticism at the Grammys on Sunday, only the mildest acknowledgment of the controversies that have been engulfing the Recording Academy for the past two weeks, and really, the past two years. Saturday night, however, Sean Combs received the Salute to Industry Icons Award at the Clive Davis and Recording Academy’s Pre-Grammy Gala, and Diddy did not mince words. “Truth be told, hip-hop has never been respected by the Grammys. Black music has never been respected by the Grammys to the point that it should be,” he said. “For years we’ve allowed institutions that have never had our best interests at heart to judge us. And that stops right now.” He issued a challenge to the Recording Academy to make radical changes in the next year, and urged his fellow artists and executives to be part of the evolution. And if things don’t change, Diddy’s predictions were dire: “We have the power. We decide what’s hot. If we don’t go, nobody goes. We don’t support, nobody supports.” JON CARAMANICA
Best Example of Someone Coming to Play: Tyler, the Creator
Taking the Grammys seriously is usually a fool’s task, yet there was something extremely endearing about the way Tyler, the Creator rose to the occasion, and beyond it. His red carpet look was crisp bellhop. His performance, of “Earfquake” and “New Magic Wand,” was fully engaged and rowdy. His best rap album acceptance speech was pointedly warm. And his backstage pressroom interview was frank. He received a lot from the Grammys last night, but he gave much more. CARAMANICA
Best Rock ’n’ Roll Mess: Aerosmith and Run-D.M.C.
It was not technically good. But it didn’t have to be good: It had to be insane, and on that point, it delivered. Steven Tyler side-skedaddled over to Joe Perry and dragged his scarf-draped mic stand around the Staples Center. Run-D.M.C. broke through a wall of bricks that looked like a prop from a middle school play. Everyone seemed to be yelling, record-scratching and guitar-soloing in the wrong key, at the wrong tempo, in the wrong decade. But the crowd was grinning and dancing, swept up in some magical blend of nostalgia and Tyler’s frontman charisma. (Two younger women in the front row were literally swept up by the latter. Cringe.) This was the party the Grammys have been trying, and failing, to capture for several years: the power of rock ’n’ roll lunacy, compressed into seven minutes of riffing, screaming and nonsense. GANZ
Worst Self-Cover Version: Aerosmith and Run-D.M.C.
Television cameras and headphone listening were merciless to Aerosmith, who paired up with Run-D.M.C. to recreate their shared 1986 remake of “Walk This Way,” which recharged Aerosmith’s career and introduced hip-hop to many rock fans. That was a long time ago. After Aerosmith plodded through “Livin’ on the Edge” — though Tyler playfully dragooned Lizzo for an impromptu audience singalong — Joe Perry fumbled his indelible opening riff for “Walk This Way.” Run-D.M.C. joined in for colliding vocals, overenthusiastic turntable scratching, incoherent solos from Perry and audience-participation high jinks from Tyler. It looked like fun, anyway. PARELES
Best Internet Fever Dream: Lil Nas X and Co.’s ‘Old Town Road’ Medley
Like most of what Lil Nas X has accomplished in the last year, his epic performance of “Old Town Road” at the Grammys was not primarily about the music. Instead, he attempted the magic act of making memeability translate to network television, and he more or less pulled it off, relying on an intricate rotating set where each door led to another layer of winks and smirks: BTS, underutilized but still electric, did its “(Seoul Town Road Remix)”; Mason Ramsey and Billy Ray Cyrus kept their SEO alive; and Diplo pretended to play a banjo, adding about as much as he did to the success of “Old Town Road” in the first place. For the close-watchers and “Road” completists, there was the empty chamber, featuring a green slimy skull, where Young Thug should have been, and rather than detracting from the unity, his absence just gave us all a chance to breathe amid the MDMA explosion. COSCARELLI
Worst Silencing: The Prince Tribute
FKA twigs learned pole dancing to make her video for “Cellophane,” adding it to an already impressive movement vocabulary. She is also, however, a songwriter and singer who explores complex intersections of carnality, power and devotion — as Prince did. So she was an intriguing choice to join a tribute to Prince, billed alongside Usher and Sheila E. But Prince’s music remained a man’s world on Grammy night, with a three-song medley that was a teaser for a full-length Prince tribute planned by the Recording Academy. The band added Vegas embellishments to the basics of Prince’s arrangements, Usher did the lead singing and some Prince moves, Sheila E. added percussion and FKA twigs only danced: lithe and precise, but merely ornamental. “Of course I wanted to sing,” she wrote on Twitter, but she took what she could get. PARELES
Best Combination of People Who Actually Know One Another: The Nipsey Hussle Tribute
In a show that included no shortage of tear-jerking and maybe too many musical/visual/emotional whiplash moments, the tribute to the Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was killed last year, at least had coherence on its side. Meek Mill started things off with a crisp verse that led seamlessly into an appearance by Roddy Ricch, a surging talent from Nipsey’s own neighborhood, before John Legend did his instant-gravitas thing. DJ Khaled shouted some aphorisms, YG showed off his impeccable style and some local inter-gang unity and then the gospel-crossover king Kirk Franklin brought the wave of emotion home with a choir in white and gold. Above the stage, a portrait of Nipsey was set next to one of Kobe Bryant, another hometown hero. All of these things make sense together, which is more than can be said for a lot of Grammys moments. COSCARELLI
Worst Sense of Pacing: Everyone Who Performed a Slow Song
I’ve complained before about the preponderance of ballads at the Grammys and this year was no exception. We get it: you’re a real musician whose songs are sturdy enough to be played on a grand piano. It’s not that, in isolation, any of these belted slow songs were especially bad, but between Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish, Demi Lovato, H.E.R., Tanya Tucker and Alicia Keys, the repeated down moments were just too down for a show that can already feel interminable. And at least half of those women are capable of lighting the place on fire à la Tyler, the Creator, so to see them stick with safety just feels like a missed opportunity, while also preventing any one minimalist performance from being truly showstopping. On the other hand, if ballads are the key to keeping CBS viewers tuned in, skipping over album of the year nominee Lana Del Rey, whose “Norman ___ Rockwell!” was full of modern-day, lightly subversive torch songs, was extra foolish. COSCARELLI
Best Simplicity: Tanya Tucker
The Grammys love their ballads overmuch — see above — but Tanya Tucker’s “Bring My Flowers Now” needed only her leathery twang and co-writer Brandi Carlile’s piano chords and vocal harmony to tell its story. After 20 years between albums, Carlile and collaborators convinced Tucker, now 61, to record again. The song greets looming mortality with pragmatism. “Don’t you spend time, tears or money/On my old breathless body,” she sang, her voice lived-in and completely convincing. PARELES
Worst (and Worst-Timed) Statement of Emotional Fidelity: Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani
The rictus ran heavy throughout “Nobody But You” by the real-life couple Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. A country singer and a flexible pop singer, they don’t have any natural musical chemistry, and this performance was dry and awkward. That it was the first music played following the musical tribute to Kobe Bryant only made it grimmer. CARAMANICA
Best Guitar Heroics: Gary Clark Jr. and H.E.R.
“This Land,” by the Texas blues-rocker Gary Clark Jr., confronts hostile neighbors with property rights. Backed by the Roots, Clark blasted its blues-reggae riff, snarled the lyrics and played the kind of overdriven solo that drew screams from the audience. It’s what he’s known for; he was back for the show’s “Fame” finale. But it was H.E.R. — a recent Grammy darling for her old-school musicianship — who made the surprise attack. Her song “Sometimes” started, like so many others on the show, as an unadorned piano ballad about overcoming obstacles; a mini-orchestra joined her. But as the song built, suddenly H.E.R. had a guitar in hand and she was making it wail and shred. It was just eight bars, but it made its point completely. PARELES
Worst Encapsulation of the Way It Used to Be (and Hopefully No Longer Will Be): ‘I Sing the Body Electric’
This is the final year of Ken Ehrlich’s 40-year run as the show’s executive producer, which means this might be the final time we see a precision-executed, umpteen-minute-long so-called Grammy Moment that scrambles together rappers, singers, dancers, Grammy stalwarts (Lang Lang! Gary Clark Jr.!) and music students … and that would be just fine. CARAMANICA

2 years ago, on this day (October 8), Johnny attended and was the special guest on Aerosmith’s “Deuces Are Wild” residence, at the Park Theater, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On that day, Aerosmith were playing their 37th show, and the last show of the 4th leg from their “Deuces Are Wild” concert residency. Johnny attended the event with Tim Burton and Ross Halfin and played (and sang) during “Toys in the Attic”. It’s unknown if the whole show were recorded, or if they have plans to release the show sometime in the feature as video, but a snippet of Johnny’s performance was released on Aerosmith’s social medias on the next day.

This is a Lilanette/Cerisette wip.
I planify this draft for the @mlbfemslashfebruary event. I will color that in next weeks.
In this draft, Lila/Cerise and Marinette play rock music together. Lila/Cerise plays electric guitar and Marinette plays keyboard. And they make an illegal concert. In this AU, the Supreme from the Re-Verse has forbidden the music. The latter's logo gets vandalized.
Tumblr media
About their fashion styles, I am based on Heavy Metal. The two girls remind me of JEM, A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga and some Rock Bands (Europe, The Who, Guns N'Roses, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Nirvana, Twisted Sister).
Lila/Cerise's hair is a wig with a sky-blue dye. Marinette is just Emonette-Shadybug.
Marinette is the Ladybug and Cerise is the new Hesperia for this concept.
In this AU, there is a band called Kitty Resistance (the Kitty Section counterpart). The two girls collaborate with this band.
Bonus (Cerise breaks her guitar):
Tumblr media
Bonus/The Cerisette playlist be like:
Extended list:
AC/DC - Highway To Hell
Guns N'Roses - You Could Be Mine
Evanescence - Bring Me To Life
Zedd ft. Ariana Grande - Break Free
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
Linkin Park - Numb
Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall
Bella Ciao
Motley Crue - Kickstart My Heart
Queen - I Want It All; The Show Must Go On; I Want To Break Free
The Police - So Lonely; Every Breath You Take
Coldplay - A Sky Full Of Stars; My Universe (ft. BTS)
Van Halen - Panama
Kiss - I was Made For Loving You

RIP Kiss 1973-2023
Hard rock legends Kiss played their final show at Madison Square Garden last night. Hard to believe these arena rock veterans who have been playing my entire life have called it a day.

Kiss in 1973

Kiss in 2023
I first got into Kiss in the late 80s, hearing their 80s work and then going back and learning about their golden age in the 70s. They define big arena-based rock and their concerts are spectacles. I saw them in concert in 1998 on the Psycho Circus Tour in Boston and in 2003 at Madison Square Garden in a co-headlining tour with Aerosmith. They are always the concert equivalent of an big summer event movie! In my Public Speaking class I took in college, I did a presentation about Kiss and their devoted fanbase, so Kiss (and Alive 1, 2, and 3) will always have a special place for me. I even have their Wicked Lester bootleg on cassette (quite good actually).

me in 1994 on Halloween as Paul Stanley
In 1994 when I was in high school, I went as Paul Stanley for Halloween. I had the makeup and remained in character the whole day (I was a method actor!).
Tumblr media
Kiss Marvel comic from 1977 (I have my re-print from the 90s)
youtube
Kiss toy commercial from 1978
To say they have been a tremendous part of pop culture would be a colossal understatement. There have been movies, comics, TV shows, books, games, action figures and music about Kiss. I have my copy of their 1978 TV-movie Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park on DVD!
Thank you Kiss for the music and the memories!

Hi Flans! I was curious- I think I’ve heard either you or JL mention that you were Sparks fans. If so, how did you get into them? Did you ever see the Sparks Brothers doc from last year? I feel like you guys and the Mael brothers are sort of kindred spirits in a way. Hope you’re doing well!
Greetings from my broken rib/messed up back day bed-SO yes as a young teenager I followed Sparks pretty closely. They were on tv pretty regularly, and had some label push behind them, but as you know from the movie-it was less that they broke through then they persevered (a laudable trait in any performer) They were part of a crowd of glam bands that had very legit songs and that were gender-bendy and arty. I dug a lot of it.
Later on I remember my pal Jimmy Mack introducing me and John to the Giorgio Moroder track "Number One Song in Heaven" which seemed like a brilliant combination of very authentic (and specific) early German disco and the Sparks sensibility. It seemed like some very savvy shape shifting on their part.
I saw this 1976 concert-in the "pre-punk" moment when Don Law was throwing together triple bills of unlikely weirdo bands bring to fill the Orpheum. I was so captivated by all my live music experiences, I would typically get to the venue early and often count how many people were actually in the room. This show was extremely badly attended-half full-so kind of a disaster for all. (A year later the Ramones, Talking Heads-playing what seemed to be their classic song set-and Eddie and the Hot Rods would be presented he same way and while it was a more successful turn out, it still wasn't sold out.) Reddy Teddy were a band I had already seen a few times at the Rat (probably with crowds of two or three dozen) They were a kind of a street-level straight ahead rock act-kind of an ersatz Aerosmith but they have some very good songs.

I saw this 1976 concert-in the "pre-punk" moment when Boston rock impresario Don Law was throwing together triple bills of unlikely weirdo bands in some abstract hope of filling the Orpheum Theater in Boston. I was so captivated by all my live music experiences then, I would typically get to the venue extremely early and often count how many people were actually in the room. This show was extremely badly attended-half full-so kind of a disaster for all. I am not sure if John L. was there but Jimmy definitely was. We had absolutely the shittiest tickets-front row but fully obstructed view directly in front of the PA stack-so we were just getting blown up by the sound, and couldn't see a thing. After about five minutes we moved to the empty "reserved" seats in the front row and just pretended our 15 and 16 year old behinds belonged in the industry seats. (Jimmy's actually already kind of did, but that's another story) I remember Russell Mael stood up on the piano when he sang White Women and it seemed kind of scary. Patti Smith, who I think I had seen previously but I an't remember where, was now far closer to the "Candy Slice" parody that Gilda Radner did on SNL. Not to drug-shame anybody but she was clearly totally high on something very real. In the fullness of time, it seems to me she was unmistakably on heroin. At one point she kind of crumpled on the stage in what anyone would describe as a full nod, and someone with her show picked here up and carried her of the stage. The band played on, and in a bit she rebounded-jumping on stage to announce that it had just been announce on the radio that Bob Marley had been shot. I have no idea about if that happened or not, but it was an interesting bit of theatrical misdirection-kind of changing the topic from her miniature drug event.
(A year later the Ramones, Talking Heads-playing what seemed to be their classic CBGB song set-and Eddie and the Hot Rods would be presented he same way and while it was a more successful turn out, it still wasn't sold out.) Reddy Teddy were a band I had already seen a few times at the Rat (probably with crowds of two or three dozen) They were a kind of a street-level straight ahead rock act-kind of an ersatz Aerosmith but they have some very good songs.
They really committed to the idea.

Prom Night!
I never went to my prom. For many good reasons.
I hated who I was or really who I wasn't able to be (which was myself) was way to introverted to ever go to anything like that and knew absolutely no one whom I could even ask to go with me.
So along with my friend group ( who were as socially awkward as I was. Except for the Gender Disphoria that was eating me alive. That was uniquely mine) we went to see a rock concert instead. Aerosmith if I remember.
I have been to a couple of proms recently.
For work of corse!!
The first one I wrote a little about back on April 9th.
The one on Friday was different.
It was for the Out and Proud LGBTQIA community!
It's a prom for those who never went to thier own because they feared not be accepted.
Or for many who were told they were not at all welcome.
The instructions sheet for the volunteers said to dress in prom attire as we could stay for the event once it got started!
Time to break out my special occasions dress!
The dance was held at the Orlando Science Center and was they had the place totally decorated for the event!
So after a my volunteer duties were done I got to attend the nights festivities.
Which meant I was completely out of my element.
I don't dance. I stick out like a soar thumb at my height , am too shy to mingle. Am infinitely older then everyone else and uncomfortable in social events.
A perfect combination for a prom dance!! LOL
The view from the top of the Science Center was great though!
Tumblr media
And I got to break out my special occasion dress which garnered me quite a few compliments.
Tumblr media
I had a good time even though I stood at the back of the room and went into observation mode. I even joined in with the rest of the Disney volunteer staff in one of those 360° spinning photo booth.
But to show you how socially uncommon I am, I didn't realize that an cute woman was flirting with me until the next day.
I least I think she was.
She did ask me to dance on three different occasions and even repeatedly bumped her shoulders into mine.
Does that count as flirting??
Looking back I think so.
But socialite that I am I held my ground firmly in the back of the room.
She promised to come back abd try me one more time (she teased at me a bit) but ending up never coming back.
<Sigh> I'm an idiot.

And I just want to hold you close
Tumblr media
Words: 2930
Prompts: Party, Escaping Together
Warnings: This fics depicts sensitive topics, such a sexual harassment and predatory behaviour, panic attacks, anxiety. Read with discretion, and please close the fic if the topic upsets you. This is a work of fiction and the events are 100% made up.
John and Veronica, along with Roger, Brian and Chrissie, are attending the Aerosmith post-concert party at Searchy's Penthouse Club. Queen, as always, get surrounded by journalists and Veronica has the chance to chat with a lovely Japanese one. But there isn't only nice people at parties like this, and when Veronica can't find John, her evening takes a turn she'd never wanted.
Tumblr media
It's definitely not been easy to write this and I was quite unsure at first, but I tried my best to touch this delicate topic as respectfully as I can. 😔💖 As a positive highlight I wanted to include a lovely interview Veronica made with a Japanese journalist that happened for real! 😊
HERE is an alternative version withouth the potentially triggering parts, all fluffy and safe to read!
