Nick Wood. 1961-2023
I wanted to pay tribute to this awesome human and African speculative fiction writer and supporter after his unexpected passing in June 2023. A digital illustration I hope captures the person we all love and respect.

Interlocking stories are winning me over. I love that more authors are using this format. It's a great way to tell stories in a way that can be stopped and started when the business of life gets in the way. Jollof Rice and Other Revolutions by Omolola Ijeoma Ogunyemi released September 13 and it is sure to provide a welcome reprieve from the mundane. I'm always looking to add more African literature to my personal library and I'm excited to sample this collection. Thanks to @amistadbooks and @bibliolifestyle for the gifted copy. QOTD: What's your preferred reading format? 🇳🇬 SYNOPSIS 🇳🇬 Nigerian author Omolola Ijeoma Ogunyemi makes her American debut with this dazzling novel which explores her homeland’s past, present, and possible future through the interconnected stories of four fearless globe-trotting women. Moving between Nigeria and America, Jollof Rice and Other Revolutions is a window into the world of accomplished Nigerian women, illuminating the challenges they face and the risks they take to control their destinies. #JollofRiceAndOtherRevolutions #tbr #omololaijeomaogunyemi #bookish #bibliolifestyle #bookstagram #read #reading #bookcommunity #books  #Nigeria #AfricanLiterature #Africa #shortstories #bookrecommendation #bookstores #readersofinstagram #amending #bookworm #booklover (at The Bushwick Collective) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj54eMYAjOK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Black Star Nairobi by Mukoma wa Ngûgi
When you live somewhere a little longer, there are some unspoken theories, rules and signs that you learn to enable your survival or living. At first you may question but with deeper understanding, you adopt or rather they become embedded into you such that you adhere unconsciously and it’s more like a simple reflex. When Ishmael and Odhiambo find a corpse in the infamous Ngong forest, they know…

The Time Has Come
In a world where truths are twisted,By the tales the creeps crafted,As if we’re puppets on strings,Dancing to the lies they bring… I hope we’re done with this thing,Because we’ve strayed from our ways,Breeding nothing but chaos,Where peace once reigned…Let this be our redirection,Navigating our way,Through the chaos and dismay,Under the guidance of those who came before…As we draw strength from…

Chinua Achebe's African Trilogy consists of three novels: "Things Fall Apart" (1958), "No Longer at Ease" (1960), and "Arrow of God" (1964).
Things Fall Apart
This novel follows the life of Okonkwo, a respected leader and warrior in the Igbo community of Umuofia.
No Longer at Ease
This sequel focuses on Okonkwo's grandson, Obi Okonkwo, who has returned to Nigeria after studying in England.
Arrow of God
Set in the 1920s, this book centers around Ezeulu, the chief priest of the god Ulu in the village of Umuaro.
Together, Achebe's trilogy provides a compelling narrative about the effects of colonialism on African societies, exploring the tensions between modernity and tradition, and the intricate dynamics of cultural identity. #Olwatuka #africantrilogy #chinuaachebe #thingsfallapart #nolongeratease #arrowofgod #okwonkwo #obi #ezeulu #africannovel #africanwriter #africanliterature

My short story expands on an original Jorge Luis Borges short story from 1938, "Shakespeare's Memory”.
“Embleton begins his riveting story, Soyinka’s Memory, based on his fictional conversation with Professor Wole Soyinka, an intriguing literary generic, by saying, “I bear the weight of Soyinka’s memory, real and imagined.” The reality in this opening sentence admits that we can be a part of a memory that is not ours.”

What do you want t be when you grow up? Where do you see yourself, let’s say, in 5 years? These are questions to which many have answers. The first one usually has absolute answers from kids and as they grow some of them pursue other choices while a few maintain. It is interesting how much children have confidence that everything will go well as compared to adults. Isn’t the exposure adults get…
