Are you guys even eligible to be Army recruits? Anti-Agneepath Protest
The anti-Agneepath protests are a perfect example of how Hindus across the country are only concerned with money and job security.
When our bhagwaans were abused, there was no outcry, but when it came to money, all hell broke loose. Money is the only thing that matters in Hindu society.
Those who claim to want to protect the country are destroying its assets.
Aspirants for the army are constantly protesting the scheme, causing a slew of issues.
The problem has grown to the point where the government has had to issue an order to shut down internet connections in Bihar.
Additionally, many people have been arrested for violently protesting the scheme by becoming arsonists and other means.
This anti-agneepath, on the other hand, is deeply saddened. People in the middle class are losing their assets, such as their cars. Those protesting should consider whether they are truly army aspirants who took an oath to save the country and are now causing harm to others.
This protest will get you nowhere, and you are unfit to join the army.

Agneepath Protest Update: Bharat Bandh Today
Bharat Bandh amid Agnipath protests in the country

Note
Hi I don't wanna bug you but the other day I was watching a movie and I thought to myself huh, you know who would really like this, my Godfather-obsessed mutuals on Tumblr. It's Agneepath (1990) and it's basically India's equivalent of TGF, complete with gangster daddy issues and a phenomenal scene where violence is juxtaposed with religious ceremony, seen through a really distinctive cultural lens... and it's on the internet archive with English subs.
IVE HEARD OF THIS @the-butter-churner mentioned it to me once if im correct..? will definitely check it out + never apologize for sending me asks <3

Watched fighter recently (Don't shame me, I was character redeveloping) for literally three things, Hrithik's please, Deepika being the protagonist and Hrithik being the romantic lead.
Visually Sidharth Anand can do no wrong but goddddd. Goddd someone take the script from his hands. Let him neverrrr write again. I am begginggggg. What does a girl have to do to get good fucking writing in beautifully shot action movies?!!!!! WHATTTTT???
HIRE ME!!!! HIRE MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The potential they wasteddddd. You got the hottest fkn couple onscreen and you come up with the most boring ass shit storyline. WHAT WRONG DID I DO TO DESERVE THAT?!!!
I had to rewatch Agneepath to cleanse myself. Nothing like satisfactory violence and a sad and bloody ending to make me forget the woes that movie caused me

I have once again embarked on the epic quest of watching as many Bollywood movies as I can stomach and I keep wanting to annoy my friends with the reviews so now I'm going to come here to get my thoughts out of my silly little head.
If anyone also follows @romanceyourdemons please lower your expectations immediately I will not be as insightful and succinct and awesome and intelligent as they are I'm just gonna gush.
Anyway Here's Agneepath (2012). Massive Spoiler Alert.
I was not expecting to like this movie as much as I did. I'm a big fan of Hrithik Roshan so I have been aware of Agneepath for a long time, he was super stoked to be a part of it etc, but the story didn't seem like one that I would really vibe with. 'Boy watches father violently murdered, decides to devote rest of his life to revenge, more at six' isn't really my bread and butter but BOY howdy was I wrong!!
Assorted things I loved:
Hrithik Roshan's beautiful face. It has been too long, my love, I'm so sorry I've been obsessed with Aamir Khan recently.
Priyanka Chopra *not* playing a Mary Sue. When she plays a character, she does SUCH a good job and I love to see it. She's so freaking pretty and good at dancing come back to India plz maam.
Katrina Kaif was there for literally one dance number???? She went off, but lordy that's an expensive dance number. I kept thinking she was going to come back, but no.
This is a dark movie with dark themes, much violence and swearing. Hrithik and Priyanka are clearly living together as an unmarried couple in the slums where Priyanka's mom is a prostitute. Do they kiss? Don't be ridiculous, staring at each other intently is all we can do. Never change Bollywood ily.
Hrithik Roshan's Angry Head Shake. Viju (his character) is So Mad all the time and has to keep it in and I LOVE how tortured he can make his eyes while the rest of his face stays calm. It's incredible.
Okay actual story things. I thought it was so interesting the nuance this film managed. Viju is not a good guy. He kills a man-sorry-police officer (AS A CHILD) to cover up the fact that he didn't identify the local Big Crime Boss in a lineup for a murder that he witnessed. He does a lot of bad things, ends up as that crime boss's first lieutenant, etc, but gosh dang it you root for him bc everyone he's moving against is worse.
Like, you know from the beginning that he's doing all of this so that he can gain the power he needs to put himself on level footing with the man who killed his father. And that guy is Super Extremely Bad, so you want Viju to succeed. You know that he aligned himself with this other crime boss bc he witnessed him say that he hated the man who killed his father. And you know that, even though he supports Crime Boss's activities, he gives all his money to charity and still lives in the slum that took him in as a child when his mom abandoned him (after he murdered a cop).
ALSO, he is playing all of the ends against the middle. Informing on Crime Boss to the cops, informing Crime Boss about the cops movements, stopping Father Killer from encroaching on Crime Boss's territory, promising Father Killer a foothold in Crime Boss's territory--Viju is everywhere and in everything.
He is full of contradictions, and that's what makes the story work. He is a brutal man because he loves so deeply and radically. He has a heart of gold that cannot allow injustice to stand, so he kills and lies and helps move drugs bc he sees it all as a means to an inevitable and inescapable end. He will kill the man who killed his father, he will free his hometown from that man's influence and he will do whatever he needs to do to get him to that point.
The film doesn't ask you to agree with Viju. It's pretty clear about the fact that he has 'fallen from grace' and landed on a path that only brings more death and violence and hurts the people he loves. It doesn't ask you to think that Viju is correct. But it does ask you to understand how this man could find himself in this position. How he could decide that this was what needed to be done.
It shows how partially effective the police are, how he's willing to work with them, but doesn't trust them to accomplish what he needs to get done. It shows how he does what's necessary to gain respect and power in the underworld but when given the opportunity, he rejects the morals of it (he frees a bunch of girls that were going to be sold at auction). It shows his mother railing against who he's become for the whole film, but in the end, recognizing that he did manage to do a good thing.
Gosh it's so heartbreaking, he finally kills the man who killed his father (in the exact same way his father was killed, love that symmetry), frees his home from his reign of terror and is dying in his mother's arms-- and this scourge of the underworld looks up at his momma with the saddest sweetest eyes and asks her if he did the right thing. She has disagreed with his choices every step of the way, but the result was, in fact, the right thing. He finally gets his mothers' acceptance.
Anyway its a well done film that asks a lot of interesting questions and doesn't force answers to them down your throat, just lets you sit in the questions. And that's a quality I like in a movie. Action sequences were great, characters were consistent and built well. Fricken loved it.
Okay that's it. If you got to the end, thanks I guess? I told you this was going to be a mess so i have nothing to apologize for. The end.

So Agneepath (1990) is definitely a film that was made. Like most Bollywood action flicks, it’s three hours long. Arguably a LOT of that could have been cut (lookin @ you, scene where he slaps his sister for no good reason) but a lot of the “extra” bits are stylistically important.
however THE coolest thing about agneepath is the costume design. Amitabh Bachchan’s character Vijay is constantly wearing white. Even as a kid he’s got a white undershirt, then the first time we see him as an adult he’s got a white linen suit and matching shoes, which then promptly get stained red with his blood during an attempted assassination.
this pattern reoccurs over and over and over. Every time he wears white it keeps getting sullied with blood and mud. Especially in the final shootout, which made a massive impression on me the first time I saw it. Not entirely sure what it represents (because my dadi’s tv doesn’t have subtitles) but I think it has to do with his inability to escape the cycle of violence: every time he tries to get clean it comes back for him.

Movie Review | Hum (Anand, 1991)
Tumblr media
This review contains mild spoilers.
While I hadn't seen this before, I'd listened to this song from the movie countless times. (For those not familiar with Bollywood, most movies are not only musicals but often marketed on the basis of the songs, which in a lot of cases are more popular than the movies themselves.) Now, between the fact that I don't speak Hindi and the fact that seeing it outside the movie, I wasn't able to properly contextualize what exactly was going on. But seeing it within the movie, where it's introduced by a character saying all the dockworkers are going to see the hero kiss his girlfriend, and the thrusting motions in the choreography, it, uh, plays a little differently. To be fair, the dockworkers are very poor, so this is their only source of enjoyment. This is also easily the best musical number in the movie, so it understandably returns to it whenever possibly, through an assortment of flashbacks and reprises.
The narrative surrounding this scene is that there's a mobster played by Danny Denzongpa who keeps the dockworkers poor and stops them presumably from unionizing, so it's up to Amitabh Bachchan as the coolest of the dockworkers to stand up to him and take care of everybody. There's also a union leader / labour activist type who is given no personality types other than being righteous, so his scenes are a total drag, but thankfully he has a foxy sister (the girlfriend from the aforementioned musical number), so it evens out. But this story of dockworkers versus their criminal bosses sounds like enough material for a movie, and Bachchan and Denzongpa are both great screen presences and Mukul S. Anand shoots this in a similarly grandiose style as his Agneepath from the previous year, so there's plenty to enjoy.
However, this really only makes up the first hour of the movie, which then jumps forward a few decades so that Bachchan can grow up to his actual age instead of the supposed twenty-something he was in the first act (and grow an awful teenstache to boot, on top of becoming a wet blanket as he decries the use of violence with some regularity), for his brothers who were literal children in the first act to grow up into Rajinikanth and Govinda, for Denzongpa to get out of prison and stomp around in his tattered suit which he never changes out of, and for the crooked police inspector played by Anupam Kher (who has a lookalike sidekick) to become a crooked government contractor looking to sell defective tanks to the Indian army. Also there's a general and a starving actor both played by Kader Khan, the former of whom Bachchan tries to impress by doing an awful British accent and the latter who replaces the former as part of Kher's scheme. And the foxy girlfriend played by Kimi Katkar is now a famous actress. And a disgraced soldier named Captain Zatack who likes to attack.
In case you're wondering, none of this hangs together, although there's usually enough happening to keep you entertained. Apparently Agneepath flopped while this was a massive hit, and I have to assume audiences preferred the buffet approach to this one's pleasures as well as it's overall lighter tone, even the grimness and relative singlemindedness are what appealed to me about the other movie. This is a lot less action-heavy than Agneepath, although Anand shoots what's there for maximum impact (lots of slow motion, and those low angles and crane shots, plus at least one memorable stunt). And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the scene in the disco where Rajinikanth and Govinda, the latter dressed like Crocodile Dundee, beat the shit out of Captain Zatack and his goons while Prince's "Batdance" plays on the soundtrack. In case you're wondering, it's Rajinikanth who mouths "Get the funk up!"

Do You Know about Central Board of Film Certification – Corpseed
Tumblr media
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the governmental regulating body for the Indian filmmaking industry. Popularly recognized as the Censor Board, the CBFC was set up under the Cinematograph Act of 1952. Its purpose is to declare, by means of screening and rating, the agreement of feature films, documentaries, trailers, short films, and theatre-based advertising for public viewing. In the beginning 21st century the CBFC previewed some 13,500 items per year. The board appoints each film to one of four categories: U for unrestricted public exhibition, A for adults only, UA for films requiring parental guidance for children under age 12, and S for exhibition to a restricted audience (for instance, doctors).  All films—foreign and Indian, as well as versions published in various formats—requirement obtain CBFC certification before being screened or broadcast in India.
Directed by a chairperson (normally a famous figure from the arts and entertainment area) and a team of 25 administrative members, the Mumbai-based CBFC progresses through nine regional offices, located in New Delhi, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Chennai, Cuttack, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and in addition to Mumbai. All of these offices have performed a locally appointed consulting panel composed of selves from various walks of life who serve in terms of varying lengths. Although the CBFC does not involve an implementation agency, its directives commonly have been accepted—often below protest—by filmmakers opposed to risk total prohibition by local authorities.
Hiding Parts about Film Certification
A film gets a certificate in approximately 68 days, as per Rule 41 of the Cinematograph Act in 1952. The members and other people of the censor board choose (after viewing the movie) that, which kind of certificate should be given to a movie. The censor board works to curtail the use of porn comedy, pornographic content, abusive words, and double meaning words, etc. The Board also holds in mind that the movies/serials don't hurt the feelings of any caste, community, religion, and belief. Presently, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) proceeds 4 types of certificates. Originally, it used to proceed just two types of certificates, but from June 1983 it has developed this number to 4. The film certificate is presented for ten seconds at the starting of the movie.
Presently let us understand the types of certificates in detail;
1.       अ (uninterrupted) or U Certificate: - All age groups People can watch these films. A film that gets a U certificate does not contain any obscene material, abuses, and violence, etc. So the films of अ /U certificate can be watch sitting with the whole family. Movies like; 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', Sooryavansham, and Hera Pheri, etc.
2.       अ/व या U/A Certificate: - Films of this certificate fall under the category of unrestricted public exhibition. These types of films may contain violence, lewd language, or sexual content. Then films in this category can only be watched by children above the age of 12 in the presence of a parent /guardian. Films Like; Aankhen, Agneepath, and Ye Jawani Hai Deewani, etc got this certificate. It is worth mentioning that this is the most solicited after certificate.
3.       व (Adult) or A Certificate: - “A” means “Adult” The certificate is only given to films that contain pornographic or pornographic material. So watch this type of movie, the same people who are beyond the age of 14. Examples of such movies are; Murder, Jism, etc.
4.       वि (विशेष) या S Certificate: - It is a special category and a certificate is rarely issued under this category. These types of movies are made for specific audiences like engineers or doctors etc.
It is remembered that films made for Doordarshan do not need CBFC's certificate because Doordarshan has been granted exemption from these types of certificates. Apart from this, Doordarshan has its own arrangement of screening such movies.

Agneepath (2012) thoughts
So after being blissed out on Good Omens for weeks and weeks, I decided to shift gears and watch pretty much The World is Fucked, Oh So Fucked: The Motion Picture.
The opening prelude bits were especially harrowing. The amount of violence in this thing is really off the charts. We get a girl bleeding to death, a guy being beaten and hanged by a mob, a girl being sold in an auction, a policeman beating a woman in the street, and a boy shooting said policeman. Tbh I did cheer at that last one.
I kinda resent that Vijay’s mother is completely, utterly weak and useless throughout the movie. She spends her time either crying, yelling at Vijay, making him guilty for being alive or inadvertently betraying him. One scene of her being a competent human being is all I ask.
Sanjay Dutt is a good villian, but he’s always been kinda goofy. That’s what made him an endearing anti-hero back in the day. Kinda undercut how intimidating he’s supposed to be.
Yes, *yes,* Hritik Roshan is very easy on the eyes. He’s also a damn terrific actor and he gave *everything* in his performance. The role called for strong, clear emotion and he delivered every single time. So so good.
Priyanka Chopra is a treasure. She didn’t have much to work with but she spun it into gold anyway. She added so many layers to her performance; even though she was supposed to be the high-energy best friend, there’s a subtle melancholy that’s not overdone. Her character’s pining is right there, but it’s woven in and doesn’t define her character. So good. She brought the film to life when she was around.
Priyanka and Hritik together on screen were hands-down my favourite scenes. They were the quieter, more subtle scenes and they were lovely and heartbreaking. Their chemistry was amazing and they played off each other so well. They really captured two people who have been friends for their entire adult lives and would know everything about each other, while being afraid to rock the boat.
The songs were awesome. Like, all of them. My favourite is probably Shah Ka Rutba coz I have a weakness for Quwwali, but all the songs were just so good.
The ending is a downer ending coz of course it is, the world is shit. People are inherently stupid and selfish, everyone is corrupt, and if someone by some miracle isn’t corrupt the world will corrupt them or they’ll get killed or both. Also like rivers and rivers of blood and your protagonist covered in blood.
At the end it was probably a 3 star movie, mostly coz the plot and dialogue and some secondary performances were a bit weak. The leads were awesome, the music was great, but dear god have I really had enough of gritty everything. Gonna go re-watch the cold open of Good Omens episode 3 to cheer myself up.
