I did a Aishite Knight illustration for a good friend of mine. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! Making the background was a lot of fun and brought me back to my childhood.

Aishite Knight, 1982, by Kaoru Tada
The story is about a 18 year old girl, Yakko, who works in her father’s restaurant. One day she meets a lost young boy with a cat, who has been brought up with his elder brother, Go. Go is the leader of an emerging rock band called the bee-hives. When Yakko and Go meet, a romance starts, along with the 80s pop rock music of the 80s.

when you get this, list 5 songs you like to listen to, publish. then, send this ask to the last 10 people in your notifs (give me your songs😈😈😈😈)
show thy music taste pooks 😈
I don't believe I have a music taste, I just kind of have a bunch of songs and genres I like and playlists for different occurrences. But here's some songs that I really really like listening to! Istg my 'taste' ranges from classical to whore music💀.THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE RTC SONGS!! I LOVE THOSE TOO.
1. Aishite Aishite Aishite by Kikuo. I love this song so dearly. I've written entire paragraphs on why I love this song. In this house we WORSHIP (almost) all of Kikuo's masterpieces!! Some other songs of him that I love are Dance Of The Corpses, Dekinai Ko, and that one Stupid Lemon Song. I don't listen to a lot of his songs, but the few that I do are literally DIVINE.
2. Uminaoshi by Maretu. Ah yes, another criminally underrated Maretu song! I also love a lot of Maretu's works and know a few more underground songs too! This song is just so great, it gives a certain energy perfectly and is so inspiring. Some other songs I love of Maretu include but are not limited to Brain Revolution Girl 2016 ver, Aishitenoni, Binomi, SIU, NAMIDA and Coin Locker Baby.
3. Hansel by Sodikken. I don't really listen to the other songs of the artist, but this song is great and pictures it's story greatly and artistically. I also love the tone and overall vibe of the song! It changes as it goes and the story changes and is very unique.
4. Over & Over by Rio Romeo. Just real. This is what depression feels like. I just connect to this song a lot, once again the emotion and meaning is painted beautifully in the lyrics and the music itself!
5. Old Doll by [Not sure who the og artist is actually..]. I love this song so much. It is so inspiring, I can just imagine so much things with it, it also really gives off those morute vibes, and aesthetic that I love. I love it very much.
Sorry I may or may not have one more song to add...I love yapping sshshsh.
Edit: It was in fact, not one song. But two!
6. Romeo and Juliet: Dance Of The Knights by Sergei Prokofiev. Ayeee, name twinsies! I love classical music too and this one is just simply amazing. Once again, super inspiring! Simply can't express my love for it.
7. Sorry, but Dance Of The Corpses by Kikuo deserves it's own mention. Such a great song, I love it so much and it makes me so happy and inspired. THIS. IS. ART.
I love so much more songs but these are a few that I like at the moment. Thank you for putting up with me.
I also like a lot of Russian songs, like I have a playlist with no genre other than RUSSIAN. I also have a playlist of the Dutch artist Joost Klein, he's great!
If you want to see all of my playlists, my Spotify is sleeping.beauty🕊️.

It's been a while since the last time I posted a drawing. Here's Yakko from Love me Knight.
(although I really like this sketchbook I'm using, the paper is perhaps not the most suitable one for this type of drawing. contrasts appear very sharp, plus it is rough and wears out all my crayons 😅 )

I finished Aishite Knight over the weekend. I really wish the series would've ended right after Bee Hive won the rock contest. The last batch of episodes were extremely tedious. It just felt like the writers were grasping at straws to keep the drama going.
The series has a happy ending... mostly. All of the couples in the series either end up getting married or engaged. Yakko finally gets her father's blessings to be with Go. The series closes with Bee Hive leaving for a US tour and Go promising to marry Yakko when he returns.
The last episode was okay. As per usual, a good portion of the episode was taken up by Hashizo and Juliano. It felt like Go and Yakko barely had any real screen time together. Even the farewell concert at the end was a little rushed. Shira and Marino made a brief cameo with their new baby which made me smile. I think pretty much every recurring character was in the finale. I was very amused by the extremely quick shot of Go and Yakko naked in bed together near the very end of the episode. Classic Toei, pushing the envelope in the series finale.
Overall I thought the series was okay. It was cute and it had potential but it got weighed down by the excessive focus on Hashizo and Juliano. My biggest gripe was the handling of Yakko. She doesn't even feel like the main character. All of her subplots and character development are centered around the men in her life. She never gets a chance to be her own character. I really wish they could've dedicated a few episodes to Yakko's own ambitions, what it's like for her not to have a mother, how she feels about the family business, something that doesn't involve Hashizo, Go, Satomi or her father.
Now to find time to read the manga...

Choking on Love
Tumblr media
No fic recommendations this month, enjoy this no major spoilers review instead.
Have you ever been looking for a series to scratch an itch?  To find a manga that fits a void?  Well, that’s been me for a really long time.  You see, I'm something of a concert lover.  Back when my best friend was still alive we would go to multiple concerts a year.  Since she’s passsed, I don’t go to as many concerts as I used to (however when 5SOS is in town I do go).  You see, through her I discovered a certain trope I liked.  What trope you may wonder?  Well the musician x civilian trope.  Well if I’m being honest, I probably first fell in love with it when I was introduced to the Kou Seiya x Usagi Tsukino ship through the Sailor Moon fandom.  What can I say I have a soft spot for it.
Over the years I’ve found a few pieces of media thought my friend, that I would consider satisfactory.  Such as the time she had me read Breathe by Abbi Glines.  Or when we watched the classic DCOM Starstruck over and over. Then their was the one time we watched Be Somebody because Sarah Jeffrey from the DCOM Descendants was in it.  However I was always looking for a manga series that incorporated that trope. Over the years I have found several manga series that filled that hole, such as Kaikan Phrase (I know a blast from the past). Yet, everything I have read in the past few years, didn't fit what I was looking for, that was until I discovered Choking on Love.
According to licenser Seven Seas Entertainment:
Hibari, a single-minded art student with dreams of becoming a graphic designer, feels insecure about being “ordinary” compared to her peers. Gaku, a free-spirited guitarist from the same university, turns her world upside down after a chaotic encounter at a ramen shop. Hibari wants nothing more than to escape the disorder Gaku brings to her perfectly planned life. But as he slowly breaks down her walls, Hibari starts to realize that a little chaos might be just what she needs.
I’m going to be honest with you, I really love this series.  To the point after reading volume one I pre-ordered the other three volumes.  There’s so many things I find refreshing about this series.  The biggest is that it gives me Aishite Knight (Love Me, My Knight) vibes.  Which I also recommend reading, that is if you're ok with reading an early 1980’s manga. Still not convinced? Did you know that Aishite Knight was written by Kaoru Tada, the author of Itazura na Kiss.  Yes, I'm serious.
Anyway the similarities between these two series are amazing. For example both manga take place in a college setting.  Also Bee Hive and Pantera Negra, while pretty popular bands, are not super famous yet.  Heck, both heroines Yakko and Hibaki work in food service restaurants. When I read it at first it felt as if Aishite Knight had gotten a 2020's update, but at the same time was its own thing.
As similar as the two series feel in those first few pages, Choking on Love is so distinct from Aishite Knight. The two leads, Hibaki and Gaku, are so different from Aishite Knight's Yakko and Gou.  I love Hibaki and how she has self-doubt about her work.  As someone who always puts a lot of pressure on myself while in grad school I find her relatable.  She’s always second guessing if her ideas are good enough and I feel that while doing my own assignments.  Meanwhile Gaku is her polar opposite, more outgoing and creative.  Always encouraging her to see outside the box.  I feel that they bring out the best in each other, even though Gaku tends to go overboard at times.
And the art.  I love Keiko Iwashita’s art style.  The art is stunning, I just sit and look at some of the pages in awe.  I also find the paneling easy to follow too.  I have a preference when it comes to manga.  I don’t like when artists crowd panels on a single page and add too much text.  Iwashita doesn’t do that, she allows her art to convey what she wants to get across to her reader base.  Even the panels that lack text, it's easy to understand from the character’s expressions.
I know other readers have complained that the plot feels rushed and shallow.  However, I'm also reading Honey Lemon Soda at present and that's a lot slower paced, so I like that unlike that series, things are moving a bit more quickly.  Besides, isn't this a monthly series in Japan and those readers have to wait four months to get to where we are at this point.  So I can understand speeding up things a little.
Do I recommend this series?  Yes.  Do I think this series is for everyone? No.  However I will say if you can give it a chance.  As someone who is studying to become a Library Media Specialist (LMS), I would like to remind you to ask your local library branch if they can buy a copy.  Though I wouldn’t say it's super expensive.  It’s S13.99 USD for a paperback, S11.19 USD if you have Crunchyroll.  Its digital price is $9.99 USD.  I’m hoping to do more of these manga reviews every once in a while and maybe you will give this series a chance.
