In 2021 the limited series on the career of designer Halston (Roy Halston Frowick, portrayed by Ewan McGregor) waltzed down Netflix's catwalk. Now we have at least three series chronicling the lives and careers of designers.

Currently on Disney+ in Europe is the exquisite CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA centering on, guess who? Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga, starring Alberto San Juan (Reyes De La Noche) as Balenciaga.

It's an interesting story about this enigmatic fashion genius that shows his steadfastness in his devotion to fashion to the sacrifice, some may say, of ethics due to the fact that while other fashion houses were shut down during Germany's occupation of some parts of France, he readily made clothes for the significant others of German soldiers.

The series also shines a light on Balenciaga's relationship with his creative partner and love-of-his-life Wladzio d'Attainville (played by Thomas Coumans).

Among the designers who appear or are name-checked in CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA is Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. These two fashion legends will appear in AppleTV+'s upcoming mini-series THE NEW LOOK with Ben Mendelsohn as Dior and Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel and takes place during Germany's occupation of France.

THE NEW LOOK will feature covers of classics by Florence + and The Machine, Lana del Rey, The 1975, Perfume Genius and more.

FMP: Seaside Towns in Transition and the Discourse of Tourism in Urban Regeneration: The Case Study of Hastings By Alberto Forte. LO1

Easter Week 3

Summary:

'This thesis presents a study conducted into the dynamics of change in a seaside town through the exploration of the formation of the discourse concerning the role of tourism in regeneration'.

The study found that Hastings adopted a model of urban tourism for its regeneration efforts. This model involves implementing projects and programs aimed at rejuvenating tourism in the city. Within this tourism model, there were efforts to commodify and promote various aspects of the city to attract tourists. Despite the focus on tourism, the study argues that other factors, such as the development of the knowledge economy (including creative and cultural sectors), improving local quality of life, and informal regeneration initiatives, overshadowed the importance of tourism in Hastings' regeneration efforts.

The Hastings Local Plan (HBC, 2002a: 227) also states that: ‘tourist activities is at its greatest in the Old Town, particularly on the seafront, the Stade, George St and the High Street. The quality of the conservation area is central to the Old Town’s attraction for residents and visitors alike’.

In relation to tourism and the leisure economy the Seafront Strategy (GHK/Tibbalds/Halcrow, 2005) also emphasizes a possible shift away from, and substitution of, the existing traditional seaside leisure/tourism amenities (plate 15, 16, 17) with the raising of the areas’ profile: ‘in the long term as the regeneration or development of Pelham Place and the Stade increases economic activity and uplifts property market values in the area, some of the existing amusement facilities in the area may no longer be appropriate or financially sustainable […] This area may be transformed into a Seaport Village [and] a Stade Fishing Heritage Quarter’ (GHK/Tibbalds/Halcrow, 2005: 24).

This policy statement is backed up by the comments from a representative of the HBC declaring a move away from the traditional seaside tourism, reflected in the existing amenities and facilities along the seafront, towards the new tourism target:

‘There are two areas that clash with the new vision for the town. The amusements arcades is one of them as they are not appropriate to our current audience. Some argue that they encourage people to gamble: the slots machines on the seafront are a throw back to the 1970s as I do not think they have any place now’ (HBC1).

Really interesting to see an article from so many years ago that critique Flamingo Park-it's clear it has been an issue for residents for a long time. The article pushes for an idea that seeks contemporary design at the seafront, but I feel that to bec disconnected from George Street. I really think they can do something that's unique here.

El viaje que emprendí fue a partir poder obtener un antiguo programa para poder mezclar esa música que movía mIs circuitos. En algún momento alguna alma me llevaría a una buena fiesta Under en las calles de CDMX donde carpeta de discos en mano pude empatar un buen set de House. Esa memoria me llevaría a buscar la forma de grabar lo que llamábamos Mixtapes en ese momento.

Disconith000 sería aquel set que pudo ponerse en más de algúnos de los centros nocturnos de la ciudad y llevaría a su fiel narrador por medio de Spots como, Roxy, Atlantico, Flamingo Tapas en Cdmx. Y una buena serie de Mixtapes (DjSets) que pude grabar me llevaron a explorar más ciertos fragmentos de películas que tengo dentro de esa melancólia colectiva. Voodo es un Dj set que invoca todos esos ritmos de FrenchTouch, Techno, FutureFunk y mucho Garage; todo esto dentro de un aquelarre de fragmentos traídos de la mente de aquel gran guión de Natural Born Killers, monólogos de Hunter Thomson e Irving Welsh.

Con Tracks de Yuksek, Modeselektor, Justice, Siriusmo, Amanda Blank, Birkii y mucha onda Kitsuné fue un buen set que se pudo presentar al lado de proyectos locales y del bajío como Memoneo, BlackSanta, Internuts, Velfast, Onsla y demás dementes nocturnos de las comarcas cercanas. Aqui el Link para darle vida a ese hombre de mimbre y quemarlo en ese zapateo nocturno poseído por buenos ritmos.

El poder navegar en una infinidad de sonidos que no tengan relación alguna (bpm) em común y poder explotarlos mediante el sampleo además de poder crear a.biebtes donde puedas ver esos sonidos de colores fue lo que este Mixtape tiene como motivación. Un viaje dentro del JazzHouse, Ambient, BestPop & Techno Funk. Un buen mix que pudo ser escuchado por Freixenet, Pata de Perro el siempre recordado Mas sabe el Diablo.

Del hueso a Espacio llegaría el momento de descubrir todo eso que se movía en el sur Con labels como Zzk Records. Y en un extraño viaje a la extraña ciudad de puebla una canción me llevaría a descubrir un planeta lleno de atmósferas chamánicas, retro/futuros llenos de cumbia bien espacial y fusiones que en ese momento despertaron en mi la curiosidad necesaria para poder iniciar un viaje en un axioma espacial a esas selvas de color neón!

Easter Week 2

Synopsis:

My focus for this study is on rebranding and reimagining Flamingo Park in Hastings, UK. Flamingo Park currently faces challenges in attracting visitors and maintaining its appeal, as evidenced by the low-ratings online. By applying my illustration and design, I aim to revitalise the park's identity and enhance its visitor experience. Through this project, I aim to contribute to the preservation of the park's cultural significance in relevance to Hastings historic context. Points of research include the history of Hastings, brand identities of other amusement parks and their outputs for successful advertising.

My specialisation in illustration will aid in championing the traditional craftsmanship that appears throughout Hastings, notably, the signwriting. Drawing inspiration from artists like Joseph Avery, the man behind the marketing of Giffords Circus, I aim to explore analogue and digital techniques. I feel this will create a standout portfolio piece from the rest of my highly digitised work.

Rebranding Flamingo Park present an exciting opportunity to enhance my skills in illustration and to make a positive impact on a real location. I aim to contribute to the long-term sustainability and relevance of Flamingo Park in Hastings and intend of communicating with Hastings Council after the project has finalised.

Ethical Considerations:

As children are the target audience for Flamingo Park, there may be incidences where I collect feedback from this audience. AUB ethics code 4.7.4: Parents are required to give consent for any research involving children under 18

Desde 2003 es el protagonista de la serie de televisión NCIS, que es transmitida por la cadena CBS. Kelly Hoppen

  The Ottoman bench is one of the highlights of Kelly Hoppen’s career.  It is enormously versatile and works as a perfect footstool or additional seating in any room. The wooden table piece attached also slides across the top adding a further useful function as well.

  Philippe Starck

  Citrus-squeezer in aluminium casting, mirror polished.‎  A truly iconic object and symbol not only of Philippe Starck but of Alessi itself, this citrus squeezer – as revolutionary as it is surprisingly functional – was sketched in its essentials by Starck during a holiday by the sea in Italy, on a pizzeria napkin.‎

  Alberto Pinto Interior Design appropriates the eclectic taste of its international clientele in adjusting its decors to each of their desires all the while adding elegance which creates a balance within such opulence. The main example here is the Tres Ilhas table which is composed of three nesting tables in brown horn marquetry and gilded natural horn fillets.

  Zaha Hadid

  Referencing Zaha Hadid’s design process, with each new project, Zaha Hadid Design (ZHD) continues to examine its significance within the dialogue of contemporary design. ZHD interprets both the present and the future, by continuing to share Hadid’s story with the public, as it did at the latest edition of Maison et Objet, where the brand showcased its latest collection featuring innovative trays.
