Title: SLAY
B Sides: Make Me Feel / Oh Ma Ma God
Album rank: B
Album mood: Bold and sweet.
Everglow once again has a bopping title track. However it's their weakest title so far though for me. It's good and I am biased but doesn't beat their previous Pirate. Despite that I do like it especially EU's rap and Sihyeon's beautiful vocals at the end!
It also reminds me a bit of TheFatRat style who they worked with before with Ghost Light which I thought was okay. So this style of sound is just okay for me, it's easy and digestable but I like a more flavour regardless of the taste (genre).
It is a shame our girls didn't get even a mini album considering they've been in the dungeon for a year +.
Both the B sides are really nice and cute tracks and I like them a lot! However I'm big on theme and yes although I was unaware it was a single album till now, having the strong name and aesthetics of a girl power single I was expecting it to follow that theme. It's a typical thing kpop and pop does where they have the concept all on one track but everything else doesn't match and it does annoy me but it's usually okay and when it's a mini album there's more to tuck in to. It's not that major, I just find it a bit jarring. And I'm very happy and pleased when groups follow a theme completely and with high quality.
Still considering it's Yuehua and after the long wait I was expecting more for OUR girls, they deserve it. Regardless the members have once again have done amazing for us and I can only hope this is a step towards more content again. And hello Yuehua, we still need a lightstick!
I also want to note that Last Melody was also a single but this was before the big break and Return of the Girl came right after so my expectation wasn't as thirsty.
🗒Notes: As usual I might add more later and there is probably some spelling and grammar mistakes.
🗒️Notes 2: The '/' do mildly set the rankings of each track higher than the next but they're all the same level. So all rank 1 songs are all rank 1 but the first one is slightly higher than the next in line if there is one. On that note a lower number song doesn't mean it's bad, after all I give an overall ranking at the end. It's a lot to do with how much I'll relisten to a song as well. So for example a lot of ballads are good but I rarely listen to them unless they are exceptional for my tastes.

Thoughts and First Impressions on The Beatles Discography: Beatles for Sale
so, as we all know by now, I am a liar and nothing else, and I should stop saying when to expect a subsequent review, because I will always make myself a liar.
With that being said, it's time for Beatles for Sale!
No Reply: I just love the percussion in this song. The syncopated rhythms are real fun. Also, some tolerable handclaps! I like the piano in the middle eight. The way it goes from more gentle singing to shouty singing really helps in providing contrast between the verse and the chorus.
I'm a Loser: John!!!!!!!!!! The way he's showing off his low range in this song, I can't help but try to sing along, and just scrape the low note. The tambourine in the chorus is a fun time. The little guitar noodles are really neat too! Also the bass is pretty darn audible, which is a treat! Harmonica coming in for a solo before the guitar solo is nice. This song makes me all bouncy and happy!
Baby's In Black: 6/8 6/8 6/8!!!!!!!! I am living for this compound time. The kit rhythm is very nice. And i adore the vocal harmonies. Especially when it goes into three part. When the instrumentation cuts back in the last verse it's really cool!
Rock and Roll Music: RINGO!!!!! I AM ENVIOUS OF YOUR DRUMMING ABILITIES!!!!!!!!!!! really good groove with the guitar and bass, and the piano as emphasis is neat as hell. But seriously this is very good drumming and I am very jealous, i wish i could play kit like this. GOD the rhythm after the lyric "tango". love a good 'cha-cha-cha'
I'll Follow The Sun: Fingerpicking!!!!!!! this one is just so lovely. The instrumentation is delicious, and I really like the lyrics. Having a low harmony under the melody is nice. the nylon guitars are very good :)
Mr Moonlight: MIIIIIISTEEERRRRRR MOOOOONLIGHT! The organ!!!! Is so nice!!!!!!!! And all the harmonies are so tasty I am eating them. God I just love the organ though. It's so nice to get a unique instrument in a song every once in a while.
Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey: This is just a groovy good time. tbh, I'm always pretty take-it-or-leave-it about Paul's more screamy singing, but it does fit good here. Also the call and response vocals are fun :) I will do a little dance when I listen to this song.
Eight Days A Week: The fade-in for once! God this song is good. The 'clap-clap's are very very good. The middle eight with the bits where the instrumentation pulls back make the vocal harmonies stand out really nicely. Another one that makes me all dancey.
Words Of Love: The Harmonies!!! Are Really Good!!!!! I like how gentle this song is, and i love that they keep the three part harmony through the whole song. The guitar flourishes are awesome. Handclaps are at a tolerable level. Also I can really hear the bass again, and it's doing such a good job supporting the other components.
Honey Don't: This Song Makes Me Happy!!!!!!!!! I love the bits when Ringo curves a word from singing to talk singing. Good old walking bass line. When he says "rock on George" :) In general this is just a good mood of a song. This song in general is the bugs starting to get a little country, but I feel it a lot with this song.
Every Little Thing: The intro in is real nice. I really like the timpani in the chorus!!!! compliments the vibes of the chorus so well. The harmonies in the chorus are awesome. I like how the drum kit slowly does more and more as the song goes on.
I Don't Want To Spoil the Party: Another one in the Very Country vibe! The 'ooo' harmonies are good. Tambourine coming in on the chorus adds some texture. Very bouncy and fun in general.
What You're Doing: the guitar riffs are really nice!!! Also the way the first words in a phrase are kinda shouted. Like the high bits in the chorus. The way the piano is kinda roll-y in the instrumental section is neat.
Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby: George song! I love the way the instruments are used to sort of emphasize the verses? The way they switch back and forth is fun.
I really like this album. Almost all the songs are just fun and when I listen I'm just doing a little dance most of the time. This is where there's a definite shift in style becoming visible, which I look forward to seeing in future albums!
Next up is a couple more singles, and then Help! See you then!

The culture around creation right now is fascinating to me, because whether we’re talking a blogger with a couple hundred followers on a dying website or the biggest artist in a generation, huge groups of people seem to think that creators should mold their creations to suit the consumer and get angry when they do not. When in reality, the creator gets to decide the direction and it is on the consumer to let it go and find something else to consume if it isn’t what they want.

i keep coming back to 'i was a functioning alcoholic til nobody noticed my new aesthetic' because i do distinctly remember conversations about how taylor seemed to be drinking a lot more and getting drunk at like every awards show she went to. and those conversations were coming from a place of concern and of hoping that she was alright and that this wasn't a problem.
so to then say 'ugh i can't believe no one noticed this problem i had' when i know that people definitely did, and on the same album say that fans who are genuinely concerned about a new relationship that you are in are just 'bitching and moaning'? what do you want from them? you're talking about so many people who do at least believe that they are coming from a place of care and concern, and you are totally dismissing them on both ends of a scale!
not to mention that her implying that since nobody (???) was noticing her ~aesthetic~ drinking problem she just stopped having it is a bit of a kick in the teeth to people who do have drinking problems and can't just stop having them, since that's not how it fucking works.

and just like clockwork twitter and tiktok “swifties” are already doing the 2 things they always do when a new re-recording comes out
1. “she didn’t breathe the same here in (any song) i’m just going to stream the stolen 😡😡”
2. “there’s no way she wrote (any vault track) back in (insert year) she has to have written them post midnights and is lying 🙄”
it literally was never about “improving” or “botching” the album it’s about her owning her work hasn’t she made it clear enough…?

Order of favourites:
1: Wake Up / Bouncy / This World
2: Outlaw / Dune / DJANGO
Album rank: S++
Album mood: Free and fearless, brave fighting spirits!
Long thoughts below! 👇
🌎This world: I love the continued spacey theme with this! I wish they would make a full spacey album! This also has Dreamcatcher vibes! I could totally see Siyeon and Dami singing and rapping this! I think it's the slight musical and grand vibes!
"I'm ready for the dark, I'm ready for this worlololold!" It's so catchy! So epic but not exhaustingly epic!
And "Lies, control, rules
Numb, hatred, emptiness." Is so cool said in that robotic like, stiff, semi whisper!
🏜️Dune: Heaven's Door~~~
🤠DJANGO: I love how the beat and rhythm when they sing Django! This could count as the album's ballad lol. But it really keeps the energy whilst preserving energy, and I'm speaking of this imagining a live show. Let's not get ~bratatata!
🏰BOUNCY: The rhythm doesn't change to drastically which perfectly matches "Slow it down, make it BOUNCY." And what can I say all ATEEZ title tracks are boops!
⏰Wake Up: Hongjoong fast rap is top tier! Ah he's so great! The end part with the chanting and Jongho's high note is so exciting!!!
"Hey, you can hear my voice I know it."
💰Outlaw: So mischievous! High note to change the beat is so cool! I can see a mini MV of the members doing their heist planning schemes and such! And I love the chorus!
This is one of the best ATEEZ albums and one of the best Kpop albums! The energy and theme is kept throughout without the usual breaks of either good or okay songs and one a basic ballad, which makes you want to listen to all songs! I love the anthem, chanting and epic musical theme throughout and the previous nods to their songs!
This World - Guerilla, Take Me Home IDIOTAPE Remix
Dune - HALA HALA, Guerilla
DJANGO - Rocky (more vibes)
Wake Up - Guerilla
It's always cool when a group has such a strong music identity that you can recognise them in all their songs! It really shows the care and direction! This is common with producer idol groups such as ATEEZ, (G)I-DLE, SKZ etc.
And I love their vocals! They've always been good, but I feel their experience now has really allowed all members creativity to relax and shine brighter!
However I will say it doesn't completely flow between each track but usually albums have to completely add that smoothing process but it's close enough! I also do miss the intros little story but that's only minor as of course it needs to suit the theme too. Plus it not being there doesn't take away from it, and it's new era style.
Lastly for this album I focused the ranking more on replayability because they're all great.
🗒Notes: As usual I might add more later and there is probably some spelling and grammar mistakes.
🗒️Notes 2: The '/' do mildly set the rankings of each track higher than the next but they're all the same level. Thoughts and First Impressions on The Beatles Discography: A Hard Day's Night
Alright, it has been absolutely too long, but I'm back with my music reviews! Unfortunately I was led away from the path of light and only listening to new albums after reviewing what came before them after @no-need-to-be-alone put on Beatles for Sale in the car and I was captivated.
Living in sin means that I've actually listened all the way through to Pepper, so I'm gonna be posting a bunch of reviews in the next couple days in order to atone and catch my reviews up to my listening reality. I'm sorry it's been so long! I don't know if anyone reads these or was wondering where they went, but now you know!
As a reminder, the versions that I'm listening to are the 2009 stereo remasters, either on Spotify or downloaded from iTunes. Now, my opinions!
A Hard Day's Night: Iconic for a reason! That opening chord is awesome. I love the drum keeping it going fast, and the cowbell. The harmonies are gorgeous and so is the middle eight. Just a kickass start to an album. Also the bass and guitar solo!!!! And that new riff for the fadeout.
I Should Have Known Better: HARMONICA! Just so groovy and happy. And that change into a minor key for the middle eight is beautiful. Very low key, but that makes it nice! Good good guitar solo as well. And the bits where you just have John's voice over the rhythm section with the sparse guitar strums... oh baby.
If I Fell: Oh I love this song so much. The harmonies the harmonies the harmonies!!!!!!!!!!! I find it to be in line with This Boy in a lot of ways but also different! The drum part is gorgeous and light, I love the hi-hat and rim knocks just carrying it all through. The bass (what I can hear of it) is very nice. Also the bit in the second chorus where John loses his breath and falters is cute.
I'm Happy Just to Dance with You: Another groove, and we have George singing! The toms on the drums are awesome. Love the harmonies on the middle eight. Good vibes, man.
And I Love Her: OAGH. The bongos, the claves, the nylon string guitars! PAUL! It's so good it's so good. Reminds me of their version of Til There Was You. Also the one bit where there's no double tracking on Paul's voice so it stands out!!! The slide on the guitar solo. I love it. and I love the change to a whole different chord at the end.
Tell Me Why: A rowdy one! Just a good time to listen to, and I love the bit where they all try to sing high. This one is very voice-forward, and kind of feels like all the music is pushing right at you.
Can't Buy Me Love: The spiritual opposite of Money (That's What I Want) lol. Another well known one, and a fun song to listen to. The instrumental bits are great, and the energy is grooving.
Any Time at All: I love this one! The energy is amazing, and I love the way it opens with the drums. And the vibes in John's voice, especially in the chorus. The piano is such a good presence in this song.
I'll Cry Instead: More of a folksy/country vibe to this one! Having cheated and listened ahead, I can see this as a precursor to what they did in Beatles For Sale and Help! Also I can actually hear the bass???? And it's grooving along. I really like the bits where it's just John and the bass and tambourine.
Things We Said Today: This one is also awesome! Love a minor key, and I love the harmonies that shift the key to major before it comes back. The chorus comes in with a different vibe entirely too, and I love how the different sections of this song make it move through the different time periods and moods in the narrative of the lyrics.
When I Get Home: Another energetic one, where John is just going for it vocally. The whoa-a-o-hiiii's are awesome. Also I love the middle eight here. Love a song that doesn't fade out.
You Can't Do That: The title of this song was my reaction upon learning that Ringo does not sing a song on this album, which i consider to be an utter betrayal. However, this song fucking SLAPS. The guitar intro is fabulous, I love the cowbell, I love how there are bits where everyone is on the same rhythm together. The fucking harmonies on this song!!! And the sort of call-and-response of it all. Just amazing. I also love how prominent George's voice is.
I'll Be Back: This song is amazing. This song is AMAZING!!!!! The harmonies again are gorgeous. The chorus is beautiful, the middle eight is amazing. The guitars are so so so so nice. I love the going back and forth from major and minor, and just. I love this song. I love this song!!!!! Also after I listened to this I listened to the Anthology take where it's in 3/4 and my brain exploded.
And once again, that is the album! As previously mentioned Ringo does not lend his voice to a single song, which I think should be illegal, but I am somewhat soothed by the knowledge he'll get to sing his cowboy songs for the next little while.
Just a very solid album overall, and really strong, showing the good idea that was doing an album of only Lennon-McCartney songs. A Good Fun Time was had listening to this, and there's really no songs that stick out negatively in my mind.
Anyways, on we go to a couple of singles and then Beatles For Sale! As usual, if you like my opinions, or want to chat, or see the other stuff I post, feel free to give me a follow! (and you can even reblog this ;) )

Hands down, Give is one of Sleep Token's yearn-iest songs. Ever. It's not on par with TLYW, Jaws etc. (because that's a whole different layer of Sleep Token's yearning onion), but it's got a kick to it.
When I say that song is the epitome of desperate, I mean it.
Without thinking about it too much, the first time I listened to it my first thoughts were 'ah, okay, wanting to give all for your lover and be able to trust them, got it', but then I thought about it a bit more.
Like with all Sleep Token songs, it has a bit of an eerie undertone, which borders on slightly obsessive, depending on who you're talking to, with the lyrics. We have "I picture you when you are all alone", "I am the shadow, you're a passenger", "I'll be the limit of your light again" and, of course, "give me all that you can give" with "and if you want to give me anything, then give (give in again)".
Vessel is describing himself as literal darkness; he's a shadow in the gloom and whoever this is is a star glowing in the darkness. A light he aims to dampen because he wants a taste of that light. A taste of them.
However, it's this desperation for attention that gets me. "Give me all that you can give" is an easy example; he's desperately giving all he can possibly give in hopes of getting the same, or more, back. It's repeated over and over, half begging half demanding with soft dulcet tones and promises that he'll be watching for their enemies, to let them know that they contend with him etc.
Give becomes this two-faced thing of someone giving with all their might to someone who is afraid to trust, bringing up empathy from us, and someone who will not accept anything except everything. It's this sexually charged fight between who is a victim (or if there really is one here) and who is the abuser.
Further, to "give in" is to 'cease fighting or arguing; admitting defeat.' It's something primal and angry hidden under, or rather, mixed with passion, and it's incredibly well hidden.
