ANDREILWEEK 2018 MASTERPOST
Hello everyone! So here it is! The masterpost you've all been waiting for!
But first, we'd like to thank all of the people who participated posting new content but also those who helped us spread the word about andreilweek and brought a lot of attention to the project. We are really happy with the results of it and we hope it's the first year of a lot more. We hope we can comeback next year for another round of Andreilweek after all the support we received!
Now, here you go!

Andrew’s perspective of his and Neil’s kisses, as well as the “thank you, you were amazing” scene, with a sprinkle of Icarus imagery.
"Andrew's wings, built upon months of promises and truths, wax and feathers, melted and burned. [Based on this soulmate idea that you’re born with a soulmate mark and when your soulmate touches you the mark turns colors *fancy* I changed it a bit so that only handprints count. Andrew first touches Neil early on in canon but I can’t find when Neil first touches Andrew so for this AU I’m going to say it’s when he takes Andrew’s hand and pulls it under his shirt in The Raven King]

“No one could be following us yet?” Kevin asked suddenly. “No one,” Riko said impatiently. “That would be absolutely inconceivable.” There was a pause. “Out of curiosity, why are you bothering me with such a stupid question?” “Oh, no reason,” answered Kevin. “It’s just that I looked back and someone is there.”

An Unpleasant Surprise  by @dkafterdark
Written for Andreil Week, Day 7: Fear. This is set in a high school au I started where Neil is attending school in Columbia and he meets Andrew at a car wash fundraiser. This story is set about four months after their first meeting. There’s a whole lotta fluff and a small, but intense amount of fear.
TW: Neil being triggered and experiencing a panic attack
Champion by @exactly13percent
Day 7: Champion, Practice, Fear Being a gymnast is not something that typically requires running. It's also not for people that are afraid of heights. Neil and Andrew really fucked themselves over. Maybe there's one good thing that can come out of it, though. Maybe meeting each other is enough.
Fast boys and hot cars by @gluupor
Minyard had gotten out of his car and was stalking towards Neil like a predator - a panther, maybe, or some other big cat. “Double or nothing,” he said, sounding unaffected and bored by the proceedings despite the fact that he’d just lost a race for the first time in years.

Day 8: Free Choice Your crystal is your heart and soul, manifested. You must keep it safe. Neil and Andrew don't have typical crystals. For one, they aren't whole. They're little pieces, broken by years of wrong. But Kevin's magic shop brings them together, and they figure maybe broken doesn't mean destroyed.
Only You by @cosyblack
In their second year a deal is made. Andrew wants to explore his boundaries and there’s really just one person he trusts around himself.
Set in a universe where everything is the same except that Andrew never kissed Neil on the rooftop that night. Instead, they just got closer and more comfortable around each other.
Too gay to function by @gluupor
After school, Neil started to make the trek back to his uncle’s house when a shiny, black beast of a car screeched to a halt in front of him. The driver’s side window rolled down. “Get in, loser,” said Andrew. “We’re going shopping.”

andreilweek2018 { day 2 - carnival }
consider this; andrew minyard loving carnivals
he grew up in the foster system so he never got to go to any while he was a kid but then nicky finds out there is a carnival happening real close to their dorms and he is literally begging them to go
so they go, they all go, nine foxes and a vixen (aaron wouldn't come with katelyn) they buy candy and play games and bet about everything
allison takes a million photos, andrew and renee win in almost every game because they are so good at aiming, kevin and nicky get totally wasted and matt buys dan about fifteen stuffed animals
andrew looks bored as always but neil can see his eyes are a bit wider than usual and his jaw isn't clenched and the tension on his shoulders is gone and then the realization hits him; andrew joseph minyard likes carnivals
after that he can't stop smiling like a fool for the rest of the day
three days later neil decides to take andrew there again, they go alone this time
they buy cotton candy and neil talks about all the carnivals he's been to while on the run and andrew watches him and thinks about how his eyes are looking bluer than ever
neil wins at a shooting game and as a price he picks a stuffed fox, he gives it to andrew and he rolls his eyes and goes to buy more cotton candy (but andrew takes the fox with him and neil knows he secretly loves it)
they watch a knife show and andrew is complaining the entire time
"ha that guy wouldn't last a second in a real knife fight"
"he is so clumsy, josten he's even clumsier than you"
"what a fraud"
they buy drinks and make out on the lawn
neil's good mood lasts for over a week and andrew doesn't threatens to murder anyone for the next couple of days

This week is going great so far, and thank you so much to everyone who is participating–whether you’re making content or reading/looking at it! Also please enjoy some semi-obscure vines from my extensive collection of downloaded vines (2016 Sheila knew what was up).
The black screen toward the end was supposed to show that the vines after that involve the rest of the foxes.

how the light gets in
Written for Andreil Week, day 5: stadium lights | read on ao3
→ In which Neil thinks it’s a good idea to come back. Andrew agrees – after all, it’s not as if he’d be going back alone.
“You know, in all the years I was here, I never actually did this before.”
Andrew hummed, letting himself listen to the wistfulness in Neil’s voice.
“That’s because you were too busy playing until your tiny junkie heart was close to giving out.”
He felt Neil squeeze his hand lightly, acknowledging the tease. On a blanket that Andrew had the foresight to bring, they were lying down in the center of Palmetto’s Exy court, staring up at the bleachers, at the plexiglass walls and ceiling. Every stadium light was on, showcasing the full orange-and-white of the court.
Andrew had been iffy about the idea of lying down in the middle of a court they used to play on, but now, he didn’t mind it one bit.
It was Neil’s sudden burst of nostalgia that sprung this into an idea – with the both of them in the US Court, they barely had any time for anything but the present. No going back on old memories, no planning for the future. There were many demands that came with playing for the national Exy team, so they vowed to spend this vacation not focusing on these demands.
(Most of which, Andrew had to admit, were not his cup of tea. After years of being on the national team, he can (kind of, sort of, to some extent) admit that being a goalkeeper is a lot more bearable than before, but he did not live for the celebrity lifestyle. Neil, of course, thrived on being able to play Exy and that alone. So on some level, they both did not care for the fame.)
Their head coach had allowed them to take a few weeks off and go back to Palmetto State with the promise that they take a few pictures and post it on their social media accounts for good PR. He had specific instructions for Andrew to post at least something, simply because his being inactive wasn’t going to stick as his reputation forever. Their PR manager, Alex, had been flooding their phones this morning, despite Andrew’s warning that annoyance will not be tolerated. Neil, thankfully, had put a stop to this by posting a picture of Andrew out on the balcony of the Columbia house.
As expected, their fans had received the photo with gusto, with some famous Exy players from other countries wishing them well, along with a few comments pouring in from the other Foxes themselves. Andrew hadn’t asked to be tagged in the photo, because he had decided a long time ago that notifications were annoying. Still, it wasn’t avoided that Neil showed him all the ones he thought he’d find amusing. Of all the feedback, the only one Neil replied to was Aaron’s thumbs up emoji – he had typed in a “hopefully u still recognize him when we get back” and hit send, ruffling Andrew’s hair lightly after he did so.
Now, Andrew turned his head a bit to stare at Neil, blinking a few times to check if he was dreaming. The striker had an awestruck look on his face, as if he was seeing the Foxhole Court’s lights for the first time. Realizing he never got to see Neil’s actual first reaction to seeing PSU’s court for the first time, Andrew quietly observed the softness of Neil’s smile, the way his other hand was pillowed under his soft auburn hair, the calmness in his breathing, the movement of Neil’s thumb up and down his forefinger as they held hands.
“Staring.”
Rolling his eyes, Andrew turned his head back to the lights. He did his best to channel the blush on his face back to the bottom of his system.
“Oh, shut up.”
Beside him, Neil laughed, a genuine one, full of life and promise, and Andrew felt his heart skip a beat. Hearing Neil laugh, like really actually laugh was the breath of fresh air he needed all along. All these past weeks, Neil had been missing something, and Andrew heard it in that laugh. That stability. That contentment. That happiness.
Then, Andrew felt Neil remove his hand from his. He frowned a little at the disappointment that he felt well up inside of him. Neil propped himself up beside Andrew, a questioning look on his face.
“Yes or no?”
Andrew raised an eyebrow. He put an arm under his head to prop himself up a bit and shoot Neil a look. “Really? Here?”
Neil rolled his eyes, the smile not leaving his face. He poked a finger into Andrew’s hip. “Dummy. Just answer the damn question.”
“God. Fine. Yes.”
Shifting nearer to Andrew, Neil wrapped an arm around Andrew’s torso and nuzzled his neck. He lifted a leg and put it over Andrew’s legs.
Into Andrew’s neck, Neil murmured, “Mmm. Better. Not quite what you were expecting, huh? You horndog.”
Andrew scoffed at the implication. Still, he moved his other arm up and over Neil, prompting the taller man to move closer. Instinctively, he started playing with Neil’s hair. There was no way he was ever going to tell Neil, but Andrew always thought he looked good with any hair color, even after he found out Neil’s original hair color was auburn. It was both a blessing and a curse.
“You’re not always one to cuddle, anyway.”
“This place is sacred. Wouldn’t think of doing anything un-sacred in it, ever.” Neil punctuated his ever by poking Andrew’s cheek, withdrawing his finger at the exact moment Andrew tried to bite it. “Too slow, asshole.”
Insults as terms of endearment. In thinking that it wasn’t possible for him to love this man even more, Andrew is once again proven wrong.
Closing his eyes, Andrew thought of everything that has lead up to this point. From his freshman year of college, back he knew nothing about what he was going to do with his life, to his life now – his ninth year as an Exy goalkeeper, his fifth year with the US Court, his third year as a pet-owner, his eighth and counting year with Neil. What Andrew felt about it all was inexplicably heavy, as if he couldn’t believe just how much had to happen for him to get here.
Understandably, Andrew didn’t like thinking about how life was before Neil. That part of him was safely locked away in a box in the corner of his mind. The nightmares about past trauma are now few and far between. Every once in a while, he remembers punching Neil out of the bed, or being woken up by Neil shoving a hand up his pillow to check for a gun. It was alternating between Neil sporting a black eye, or Neil waking up in a sweat because he was so fucking scared. Now, after years of experience have led to him being used to waking up and having Neil still asleep beside him, not an empty bed because Neil had to go sleep on the sofa.
He wondered if this was how Aaron felt about Katelyn all those years ago. If this was the feeling he was so against, if this experience was what he majorly disapproved of before and after his sobriety. The time he flew to Arizona to talk to Aaron about this flashed through his mind.
Are things with that cheerleader are still ongoing?
Andrew. You know this. You know we’ve been married for— for God knows how long.
I know.
Then why are you here?
For confirmation purposes.
And what are you confirming, exactly?
The existence of the both of you in my universe.
Aaron’s jaw had dropped a little. Then (and Andrew will never, ever let himself forget this) he had actually grinned. It was a weird twin thing, because now Andrew knows how he’d look like if he ever smiled with teeth. Afterwards, the rest of the conversation was more of Aaron forcing Andrew to apologize to Katelyn, but Andrew had strongly refused. He had felt like he had done enough character development that day.
(With enough of Aaron’s insistence though, mending things with Katelyn had come a little later.)
Andrew was jolted out of his train of thought by Neil’s lips lightly pressing against his jaw. A kiss, but not quite. Still, Andrew felt the sensation throughout his whole body. It was almost enough to make him shiver.
“Hey.”
“What, Neil.”
“Your thinking is very, very loud.”
“And you’re rude for interrupting.”
“Care to share with the class?”
“What class? I only sense one very, very annoying student.”
Neil smiled against his neck. He kissed Andrew again, this time long enough for the action to register itself into Andrew’s system twice over. “And what about it?”
“Hmm. How about I get a head start on that very unsacred activity you were planning on avoiding.”
Sex on the Foxhole Court would be uncomfortable, not to mention embarrassing if they were caught, but it could work. The logistics wouldn’t be difficult for the both of them. And if Neil was in the mood, then—
“Maybe later. I’m sleepy.” Neil mumbled, pressing another light kiss to Andrew’s jaw. Andrew heard the fatigue in Neil’s voice, and it was enough to make him a little drowsy.
“Mm. Go ahead.”
“But you have to tell me about,” Neil paused, as if thinking about which words to use, “about your thoughts.”
“It’s not anything you don’t already know.”
“It’s also obviously not about me being pretty, so…”
Neil trailed off, forgetting to complete his thought. The moment passed, and Andrew gradually felt the both of their heart beat in sync. The lights above them seemed to be a little dimmer, and, while Andrew wished he had the more advanced foresight of bringing a pillow, he didn’t think there was any other place he’d rather be.
Then, Neil trailed his hand up, up, until he was holding Andrew’s face softly.
“Nothing bad, I hope?” His whisper held the slightest tinge of worry, loud enough to reach Andrew’s ears. Andrew felt Neil’s fingers caress his cheek a bit, and Andrew felt something tighten in his chest.
Even after Andrew put all his defenses down, Neil still had it in him to be careful. No matter how strong he acted, Neil saw through the act each and every time. He thought about how nobody else would ever treat him like this. About how he would never have this with anybody else. It scared him a little.
Okay, maybe it scared him a lot.
“Oh, ‘Drew,” Neil said with a little bit of urgency, sitting up and holding his hand on Andrew’s cheek. Which had ended up being a little wet by Andrew’s tears.
Andrew can’t even tell when he had started crying.
“It wasn’t anything bad, I swear,” Andrew replied, sitting up too, taking Neil’s hand off his face and drying his tears on his sleeve. He had been overwhelmed. That’s all.
Neil, ever the worrywart, wasn’t convinced by it. “You sure?”
The worry in his tone was enough that Andrew wasn’t sure. “Yeah. I just—”
Pausing, Andrew gave the opportunity what it deserved and took in all that was around him. The awareness was calming, a steady hand to hold. There are always going to be moments like this, he realized. He closed his eyes, stilled himself, and opened them again. With this, Andrew looked at Neil, as in really looked at him, and saw him for who he was.
“I was just,” he began, and Neil prompted him by holding his hand, “thinking about life. How much has happened.”
Then, after taking a deep breath, Andrew continued, in a bit of a rush, “How I never got to thank you.”
Neil exhaled and shook his head, the relief enough to wash over Andrew himself. Then, he took Andrew’s face in both hands and put their foreheads together. Neil closed his eyes and cleared his throat a bit.
“Well, we have the rest of our lives for that now, don’t we,” Neil murmured, and after Andrew closed his eyes and nodded his reply, Neil curled a hand around the back of Andrew’s neck and put his lips to Andrew’s.
It seemed like every kiss with Neil was something Andrew needed to catalog. There were heated kisses, and playful kisses, and short kisses that said see you later, and kisses that led towards something more. This one, though. This one was more special than all the others. It was close-mouthed, chaste, but in that moment, it was everything.
And for a brief moment, Andrew saw their entire life together flash before his eyes.
Andrew hitting Neil with a racquet in the ribs. How Andrew saw something in Neil despite being drugged to within an inch of his life. How Andrew seemed to hate Neil, and Neil had actually hated Andrew for a bit, because of what he did at Eden’s Twilight. The hatred that wasn’t really quite what Andrew thought it to be. The trauma that both of them had already gone through, still coming back to haunt them. Andrew and Neil recognizing that what they had was a-thing-but-not-really-a-thing. Andrew and the Foxes almost losing Neil. The Butcher dying, and Neil making a full recovery. Riko getting shot in the head. The Moriyamas giving Neil his life in exchange for money. Andrew and Neil graduating PSU. Sir Fat Cat McCatterson and King Fluffkins. The US Court. A whole lifetime together, ahead of them.
It was the full-blown realization that a lot of their life together was like that: not really the whole experience, but everything anyway.
Andrew kissed back, enough to tell Neil what he couldn’t really say, and let himself go.

A 10 Things I Hate About You AU written for the Andreil Week prompt: fake dating
Katelyn squared her shoulders as she looked up at her new high school. It wasn't the first new high school she'd attended, hell it wasn't even the fifth. Her father's military career led her family to moving so often that she was used to being the perpetual new kid. Not again, though. Her dad had promised this time. Even if he got transferred he would let her finish out the year at the same school. She had one chance to make friends in order to have the best senior year possible.
She found the administrative office easily and she was pleased to find that another student had been assigned to show her around. This was common practice, and it was generally an outgoing overachiever who volunteered to help her. Based on the biceps of the girl waiting to show her around, Katelyn guessed that she was involved in sports.
"Hi, I'm Dan Wilds," said her guide.
Katelyn introduced herself, and Dan led her out of the office making small talk. Dan walked her to her first period class, gave her directions on how to find her other morning classes, and promised to pick her up right before lunch.
Her morning passed easily: she was stared at a normal amount due to her new kid status and she even chatted with a few friendly people. In chemistry, they did a mini first day experiment. They were assigned partners alphabetically and she was paired with a short blond guy.
"Do you know why chemists enjoy working with ammonia?" she asked her lab partner, unable to stop from embarrassing herself in front of the cute boy.
He frowned at her, confused. "No," he said suspiciously.
"Because it's pretty basic stuff."
He stared as if he were worried for her mental state, before he cracked a smile. She had a feeling that it was a rare sight. "What do you do with a sick chemist?" he asked in return.
She smiled, wanting to dance in happiness that he was countering her nerdy joke with one of his own. "What?"
"If you can't helium, and you can't curium, then you might as well barium."
Her laughter caught the attention of the teacher, who instructed them to get back to work.
"That was your fault," her partner grumbled, without irritation.
"Not just mine," she said. "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate." He gifted her with another sunshine smile.
By lunchtime, Katelyn's stomach was growling and she was happy to see Dan. Dan led her over to a lunch table that already had several occupants.
"This is my boyfriend, Matt," introduced Dan. "And our friends, Allison and Kevin. Guys, this is Katelyn."
After Katelyn fielded the usual questions about where she was from and whether she was liking South Carolina, Allison leaned forward expectantly. "So, seen any cute guys yet? Or girls? Anyone you're crushing on?"
"Well," said Katelyn, feeling her cheeks heat. "There was a guy in my chemistry class. Short, blond, named Aaron?"
"Aaron Minyard?" asked Allison. "Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no."
"Why not?"
"Hey Nicky!" Matt called out to a boy sitting at a nearby table. "Come join us for a sec."
The boy looked up and nodded, making his way over to their table and sitting across from Katelyn.
"The new girl's got a thing for your cousin," explained Matt.
"The saner one," added Allison.
"Oh, honey, no," said Nicky sadly. "You'll never get anywhere with that."
"Why not?"
"My cousin is a twin," said Nicky. "And a couple years ago his mother died."
"Oh no, I'm so sorry," said Katelyn with genuine sympathy.
Nicky waved her comment away. "Not the point of the story. Anyway, he and his brother promised to stick together after that. So now Aaron's not allowed to date unless Andrew does too."
"Guys," said Katelyn, looking around the table. "This really doesn't seem like an insurmountable problem."
Matt gestured over Katelyn's left shoulder. She turned, and saw a boy who must be Aaron's twin. He was a little more muscular than Aaron, and dressed in all black. A student passed close by the table where Andrew was sitting with a white-haired girl, and leaned over to say something. Andrew responded by brandishing a knife.
Katelyn gasped. "That must be against the rules," she said. "And the law."
"Andrew hates everyone," said Nicky. "He's never going to date. We thought that he and Renee-" he indicated the girl sitting with Andrew "-would start going out, but they both came out as gay last June. Now there's no hope. Aaron's going to die alone."
"No, this can still be fixed," said Katelyn, her stubborn nature showing itself. "I'm sure that Andrew's a good guy deep down." She glanced back and found Andrew's dead-eyed stare focused on her. "Er, very deep down."
"The only way that someone will date Andrew Minyard is if you paid them," said Allison flippantly.
There was a brief pause. "That's not a… bad idea," said Nicky.
"You'd have to find someone who isn't scared of him," said Dan.
"Everyone's scared of him," said Kevin, speaking up for the first time. "And for good reason. You remember how he reacted when I asked him to join the exy team."
"Well, you were slightly… over persistent," said Matt diplomatically.
"Anyway, it's not like I have money to bribe anyone," said Katelyn.
"Don't worry about that," said Allison. "I would pay just for the fun of it."
"That still doesn't solve the problem of who would agree to go out with him," said Matt.
Katelyn had gotten distracted, watching as Andrew said something to a boy passing his lunch table. The boy turned to regard Andrew and Andrew again slid a knife out from somewhere. The boy just rolled his eyes, gave Andrew a salute, and walked away nonchalantly.
"What about him?" she asked.
"Who?" asked Matt craning his head to see. His jaw dropped in incredulity. "Neil Josten?"
"He started going here at the end of last year," explained Dan. "We tried to make friends with him, but he blew us off."
"I heard that he killed his own father," said Kevin.
"I heard that he's in the mafia," added Nicky.
"He's at least half-cryptid," said Allison.
Katelyn shrugged. "But he didn't seem afraid of Andrew," she said.
"He was apparently raised by stabby psychopaths," said Dan. "Maybe Andrew just reminds him of home."
"Neil is very pretty," said Matt hesitantly.
"True," agreed Nicky. "If Andrew hasn't noticed then he was lying about being into dudes."
"And his clothes definitely indicate that he needs the money," mused Allison.
"And he and Andrew are perfect for each other, in that they're both terrifying assholes," said Dan.
"Great!" said Katelyn happily. "It's settled. We’ll bribe Neil to date Andrew so that I can date Aaron." She was certain that everything would work out in her favour: she'd made up her mind that she was going to have a perfect senior year and she was very good at getting what she wanted.
After classes ended for the day, Allison tracked Katelyn down and led her out to the school's football field. The field hockey team was practising and several students, including Neil Josten, were running around the surrounding track. Allison kept her attention on her phone as they waited, but Katelyn watched Neil run. He was faster than he should be, based on his height.
They approached him when he was finished, stretching out his leg against a bench and gulping down sports drink.
"What do you want?" he asked, wiping the sweat off his brow with the sleeve of his t-shirt.
"I have a business proposition for you," said Allison.
Neil snorted. "Pass."
"I will pay you $100 to take Andrew Minyard out on a date," continued Allison, ignoring Neil's input.
He straightened and eyed them in consideration. "Why?"
"I want to go out with Aaron," said Katelyn, making herself as earnest as possible. Maybe if he sympathized with her, he'd help her out. "And he's not allowed to date until Andrew does."
"That doesn't really take what Andrew wants into account," said Neil.
"Oh, don't put yourself down, Josten," said Allison. "You're a catch. He should be grateful to get a date with a specimen like yourself."
Neil gave her a flat look. "And what's in it for me?"
"One hundred dollars," said Allison slowly. She turned to Katelyn. "I already said that, right? I'm not imagining things, am I?"
"I have my own money," replied Neil.
Allison gave him a very judgmental once-over. "Do you?" she asked, sounding generally curious. "Then why do you look like… that?" She waved her hand, indicating Neil's entire body.
"Besides, I know you're aware that I'm not interested in dating," continued Neil. "I told you during your interrogation last year."
"That was a friendly getting-to-know-you chat, you giant drama queen," huffed Allison. "And it's just a date; we're not even asking you to get to first base. Just take him out somewhere nice, on me."
"I don't need your money," Neil reminded her. "But," he said, raising his voice to cut off Allison's reply, "you probably can get me something that I do want."
"And what's that?"
"I want on the exy team," he announced. "I missed the tryouts last spring."
"You can't be on the team just because you want to be," said Allison, rolling her eyes.
"You're friends with Kevin Day. Get him to agree to give me a fair chance at a tryout and I'll ask Andrew Minyard out on a date," bargained Neil.
Allison's eyes narrowed. "It's a deal," she said, and stuck out her hand to shake his.
"Why are you doing this?" Katelyn asked Allison as they took their leave. "You seem very invested in this."
Allison blushed slightly and averted her eyes. "Andrew spends all his time with Renee Walker. I was hoping that if he had someone else then she would be looking for some companionship."
"Ah," said Katelyn, sagely. "So you're also just a giant loser with a crush."
"Shut up," said Allison. "I'm not a loser, I'm a queen."
The rooftop access door slammed open and Andrew automatically lit a second cigarette, passing it over as Neil took a seat beside him.
"I received some interesting information," said Neil, clearly trying to get Andrew to ask him for his news. Andrew remained quiet, just to be contrary. Neil huffed, but continued anyway, "The new girl has a crush on your brother."
"It doesn't matter," said Andrew. "It doesn't affect me." Aaron wasn't going to break his promise and start dating, not until Andrew decided that he could.
"And that's where you're wrong," said Neil. "Somehow she's enlisted the help of Allison Reynolds and the two of them are bribing me to take you out on a date."
"They're bribing you?" repeated Andrew.
"Yup," said Neil. "Allison's going to get Kevin to agree to let me tryout for the exy team."
Andrew shook his head with mock severity. "I should have known better than to trust a junkie like you. All it takes is a single offer of your drug of choice and you're selling me out."
Neil knocked his shoulder into Andrew's. They'd met during Neil's first week at school, when he'd been searching for somewhere to sneak a cigarette. Since then they'd been meeting here regularly, slowly becoming almost-friends. Andrew was surprised by how much he liked the casual contact.
"Wanna go on a date with me?" asked Neil.
"I hate you," said Andrew.
"We just started sonnets in English," said Neil. "You could write me one: 'How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.'"
"We don't have enough time for me to make a detailed list."
"Maybe just a Cliff's Notes version, then? Ten things you hate about me?"
The ten things Andrew hated most about Neil were also the things that Andrew found most attractive about him, so he didn't respond.
"The deal I made is that I have to ask you on a date, not that you have to accept," Neil said. "So technically I've already done what I said I would. After all, I can't take you out if you say no."
Andrew smoked and considered his options. Agreeing to date Neil, even as a ruse, appealed to him. Maybe he could take advantage of the situation and somehow convince Neil to date him for real. However, if Andrew suddenly started dating then Aaron would follow. Was this something for which he was willing to loosen his hold on Aaron?
"Where would you take me on the date?"
Neil blinked once, obviously not expecting the question. "I was thinking of doing something like paintball," he said casually.
"Why paintball?"
"What, you don't want to attack people without them threatening to call the cops?" said Neil. "I know you prefer knives to guns, but I'll teach you how to handle a gun: I'm a crack shot."
The fact that Neil had obviously put thought into where he would take Andrew, specifically, on a date made up Andrew's mind. "What will you give me if I say yes?" he asked.
"What do you want?" Neil volleyed back.
What he wanted was for Neil to not ask stupid questions. "A bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue," he said instead.
"Deal," said Neil, his eyes shining. "I'll see if I can get Allison to pay for it."
Andrew was aware that this was a stupid plan that was going to end in pain, probably his own. He was giving up his hold on Aaron for what would surely turn out to be a pipe dream. He should know better by now, but Neil hadn't let him down yet. Perhaps, if he played his cards right, this was something that he could have.

Running to You
In Columbia, Neil has a nightmare and decides to go run in the middle of the night so Andrew waits for him to come back.
You can also read it on [AO3]
As always a big thank you to @velvetnoodle for being such an amazing beta<3
It’s the middle of the night and Neil’s jogging around the block. He’s completely drenched, his breathing is hard, and he doesn’t know how long has passed since he got out to run. While he’s used to running and ignoring the aching pain on his legs from the exercise, he has calmed down enough that he’s ready to run one last mile and get back to the house.
Neil freezes the moment he reaches the house and notices Andrew sitting in the corner of the porch staring right at him. He stays still for a few moments, watching Andrew take a long drag of his cigarette and let out the smoke into the air.
Neil lets out a long breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. He had woken up in the middle of the night after a nightmare and the urge to get up and run, to clear his head of his nightmares, was all he could think about at that moment. But the sight of Andrew just waiting for him to come back, to make sure that he does come back, makes his heart skip a beat and he almost has the urge to smile. Almost.
He decides to sit right next to Andrew and steal the cigarette from his hand. He takes another deep breath to let the familiar scent of smoke and Andrew’s steady presence at his side calm him down. They silently stare at the pouring rain in front of them, and it reminds Neil of all the times they went to the roof together in the past years when one of them couldn’t sleep.
He doesn't know how long they've sat there but the shiver that runs through his whole body doesn’t go unnoticed by Andrew. “Fucking idiot,” he says to Neil. Then he grabs Neil’s hoodie and squeezes it almost as if to prove his point. The water that starts to drip on the porch only makes Andrew look at him more pissed. He then touches Neil’s hand with his own and Neil subconsciously turns his hand palm up in case Andrew wants to hold it but Andrew shoves his hand away. “Get in the shower now; if you get sick Kevin will make you regret it,” he says as he stands up.
Neil for once doesn’t complain and follows Andrew inside. He’s feeling too tired from the lack of sleep and the workout, and it’s only when he closes the door behind himself and the warm air from the house hits him that he realizes how cold he is. His body starts shivering uncontrollably from the temperature change and he curses while he discards his shoes. He goes to the bathroom and finds Andrew in there turning the shower on. Neil struggles a little to remove the damp hoodie clinging to his body, then he removes his t-shirt and another shiver runs through him.
“I don’t care if the water burns your skin,” Andrew starts and turns to look at Neil.”Just get in the shower.”
Neil rolls his eyes. “I’ll be fine.”
Andrew stares at him with a blank face until Neil begins to move towards the shower to check the water temperature. Then Andrew seeming satisfied closes the door when he exits the bathroom. Neil takes off the rest of his clothes with some effort and enters the shower. The water burns his skin but after a few moments, his whole body starts to heat up so he stays under the jet with his eyes closed just allowing his muscles to relax. He then quickly washes and rinses off. He towels off and puts the towel around his waist and sits in the border of the tub.
He feels drained now that his body has calmed down. Neil pulls at his hair to let the pain wake him up. Two years ago around this time he was locked up with the Ravens, and the nightmare that woke him up tonight had felt too real. The single knock at the door brings him back to the present. “Come in,” he tells Andrew.
Andrew opens the door and closes it behind himself, he slowly walks towards Neil and passes him a pile of clothes.
“Thanks,” Neil says once he grabs them and looks down at the pile of clothes feeling the soft fabric of Andrew’s shirt. “For everything.”
Andrew inches closer and brings his hand to Neil’s chin to guide him to look him in the eye. “Shut up.”
A weak grin starts to form on his face. “When do I ever shut up?”
“I can make you.”
The empty threat makes Neil grin wider and he gets up, setting the pile of clothes on top of the closed laundry basket. He inches closer to Andrew and stops just an inch away from his mouth. “Yes, or--”
Andrew moves closer and kisses Neil for just a moment. Then he moves his mouth slightly away from Neil to be able to speak. “It’s four am; just come to bed,” he says, sounding tired.
Neil opens his eyes and this close up he can see the dark circles Andrew’s have underneath his eyes. It’s a rough time of year for both of them. Neil nods and watches Andrew exit the bathroom once again.
Minutes later, Neil quietly steps into the room and lies down next to Andrew. He turns his head to the side and studies the outline of Andrew’s face that’s visible in the moonlight coming from the window.
He brings a hand to Andrew’s hair and stops just shy from touching it. “Can I?”
“Yes.”
Neil moves his hand through his hair for a few moments. He inches closer to Andrew until his knees are touching and he can feel the soft breathing of Andrew on his face. He closes his eyes content for the closeness; he feels safe around Andrew and tries to will his body back to sleep. It’s when Neil is almost falling asleep that Andrew puts his own arm loosely around Neil’s waist bringing him just an inch closer. They fall asleep entangled in each other’s bodies and no nightmare bothers them the rest of the night.
