“Zionist Occupation Government” is an incorrect and antisemitic term, as the implication is that Israel is a hostile, foreign force occupying the American government and subverting its will in service of “the jews”. The twitter discourse which you are still angry enough to be bringing up in my tumblr inbox well after it ended was spawned by a guy on twitter implying that the /pol/ cretins who call jewish people “zog” are right because if you change “occupation” to “occupied” it’s actually a good and true acronym because the individuals occupying seats of power in the U.S. government are ideologically zionists. my objection to the ridiculous attempt at rehabilitating the acronym is that those words were only chosen in that particular combination specifically because using the term “zog” is controversial and gets a reaction out of people. it is rage bait, a useless rhetorical tool to make people angry for twitter likes, and does not hold any explanatory power on its own.

what you are referencing on my end is a post i made where, in response to a palestinian woman describing the IDF announcing plans to kill her sister, someone accused me of antisemitism and “losing support for my cause” because in the message i reposted from this women, she shortened “zionist” to “zio”. beyond the fact that the vast majority of people who see that shortening will not immediately think, “aw gee the KKK also shortened zionist to zio at one point!”, i can promise you it is nowhere near your example in terms of intentionality or provocation. the fact that you even thought to make this comparison tells me that you do not care about what you are talking about. you are just trying to do an epic own as a tumblr anon message because you did not even believe in what you were saying enough to do so publicly. you recognized at some level that this was a very stupid thing to say, but you did it anyway - consider unplugging your internet router.

hi, I'm a huge fan of your work, and I just saw that you had the link to decolonize palestine on your intro post (since you just posted a new one). I had read the website before, as a jew (who had been told different information but wanted to double check my info) and I found some of it really questionable. so I decided to research it a bit. obviously, feel free to do your own research, I actually encourage it, but here is a tumblr post that seems? to pretty well explain how wildly antisemitic that website is (i did not fully vet the post, but given what I know of jewish history, it seems to fit). I'm all for being pro-palestine and there are a ton of good resources out there, however, this website does not seem to be one of them.

obviously, it's up to you if you want to keep it or not, or even outright ignore this ask, but there has been a lot of misinformation going around, and in case this was your main source of information, I wanted to let you know that you should maybe cross reference it.

Hello!! I read that post and some of the comments and reblogs as well as other posts by the original poster and while it does seem like the decolonize Palestine might have source issues and skip over sections of history I don’t think the post or blog you linked is any more reliable of a source. In the comments/reblogs alone I found posts which discredited major points it made, clarifying that “pink washing” is actually a term INVENTED by pro Palestine Israeli activists and that BDS discredited the Boston branch for the mapping project which is a separate thing from BDS. Those two facts, one of which the OP acknowledged in reblogs but did not change in the original post because it was “still in the realm of bad” make me hesitant to trust 100% of their information, and also because stuff like ancestral heritage/who can claim what as their homeland is contentious and Im not equipped/qualified to discuss it or evaluate it by any means. I took a look through that blog and found some of the ways it talked about Gaza and the genocide to be suspect. Specifically when they said they see the appeal of Israel because Judaism is the “dominant culture” there. They said photos of the atrocities happening in Gaza are just a way to make you angry so you’re more susceptible to Hamas propaganda and that they discourage “higher thinking.” They didn’t seem to indicate any solidly anti genocide stances which makes me think they are no more unbiased than decolonizepalestine is, just in the opposite direction. What went implied but unsaid is that anti-Zionism=anti-semitism, with which I disagree when your anti-Zionist views are based on your human rights views. I do think some anti-semites have embraced this as an opportunity to be flagrantly anti Jewish but this is not the full story of anti Zionism and is not true of most anti Zionists.

Regardless it seems like maybe that’s not a perfect website to link because it erases some relevant history but I just thought I’d let you know that blog to me is quite dog whistley. Also to anyone who might be considering it Im not interested in fighting in my inbox and I simply won’t engage. Pls do send alternative suggestions for links I could put there maybe to better sourced sites or a compilation of vetted fundraisers!! Thank you

So... regarding some recent death threats:

A couple days ago someone sent me death threats, sent some targeted (and arguably misogynistic) harassment, and tried (but failed, since that’s tumblr HQ’s physical address) to dox me. I didn't see it immediately, since my inbox is usually always full from other folk's more innocuous messages. But eventually I did.

I’ve been on semi-hiatus for many weeks now—since August. I haven’t been able to even enjoy tumblr much, since I’ve been busy with health issues & working on my doctoral research. If you see me on your dash, it's either my queue or because I managed to find a few minutes during my day. So, I don't know what queued post ruffled this person's feathers.

Based on this person getting irrationally angry over gifs, I imagine it's someone who didn’t like that I previously criticized edit/gif-reposting when I was more active. But it could also very well be an angry Zionist — since they frequently send me strange anon messages that make me momentarily turn off anons. So, I don't know who it is and, tbh, I don't really care who it is.

As for me, I’ll continue my semi-hiatus off this site to focus on my wellness and career, rather than some dumb fandom freaks or keyboard-warrior foreign policy analysts. I'll also be keeping my anons off, perhaps indefinitely. Honestly, it made little sense to keep them open anyway, since 95% of folks message me off anon.

Lastly, I hope the person who sent me these threats can chill out and move on. For their own sake if I upset them this much, I hope they can find distance from me and create their own space of friends & content on tumblr—without violently threatening people they dislike. And I hope no one else receives threats from this person and that this incident is the last of it.

Hey there :) in one of your tags you mentioned you would remove your work from ao3 due to the pro israel stance seen in that post. And i absolutely agreed with you!!

Im from a country where support for palestine, and even just the bare minimum calls for a ceasefire is portrayed as anti semitic/pro terrorism or whatever they come up with, and its been so tiring. I feel helpless and angry and often alone, as there are only very few people i can actually talk about whats happening without being shut down with the usual empty phrases.

okay. I don’t know anything about attachment theory or really care, so I read this post with mild interest and was about to scroll on by, and then that last line. Okay. I haven’t posted about this before out of self-preservation, because I did not want my inbox to be swarmed by angry hornets and some conversations do not need every single voice, but this post appeared on my dash. It was brought into my house. So I’m going to say something: I feel seriously unsettled by this growing trend (at least, growing on the left— right-wing conspiracy nuts have been doing this forever) of people using the label “Zionist” as a way to instantly condemn and/or dismiss another person wholesale, with no further explanation or evidence required.

After some googling of both authors that made me feel like kind of a creep (combing through professional profiles, book blurbs, etc for evidence of a complete stranger being “a Zionist” whose online presence is not explicitly political should make you feel like a creep, by the way), I found one author, Dr. Amir Levine, M.D., referred to as “Israeli Canadian”, and that the other author, Rachel S. F. Heller, M.D., at one point worked for the Educational Psychology Service in Modi’in, Israel as a psychologist for families, couples, and children.

Both of these people live in America: one lives in San Francisco, and the other is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University. I found plenty of information about their professional careers, but I could not find anything in their extremely normal internet presences about their political views. All I found to “substantiate” the OP’s claim of Zionism, which they used to dismiss the authors’ credibility and presumably their moral character, were ties to Israel, a country of 9.5 million human people that is also visited every year by a large number of diaspora Jews.

(Well— the authors’ names are recognizably Jewish as well, which may at this point be enough for some people to cast them as “Zionist until proven otherwise”. I sincerely hope that is not the case here.)

(and while I’m at it, “Zionist” as a blanket condemnation also strikes me as misguided— if someone identifies openly as a Zionist, do they simply believe in Israel’s right to exist as a country, or do they want to raze Palestine to rubble and drive one of the bulldozers themselves? It’s a nuanced term. And, again, could be a moot point here, because I did not find any political statements by these two psychiatric professionals readily googlable.)

I also want the suffering of the Palestinian people to end. But there’s fighting to end a war and pressure Israel, the political entity, to back down, and then there is labeling everyone born into, or who has at any point lived in, the nation of Israel as inept, untrustworthy, or outright evil. I’ve been seeing more and more of the latter from left-leaning folks online and in real life, and it both disgusts and scares the hell out of me.

Here is the short version: every relationship that we have has its own attachment pattern, which can change as the relationship does, and often if we are acting "anxious" or "avoidant" it is because we have accurately noticed a pattern that suggests that relationship is insecure. Which we might feel for all kinds of reasons. Furthermore, the way attachment was traditionally assessed, it was essentially impossible for any Autistic or visibly neurodivergent child to register as secure ever. So we (psychologists) have very flawed models of what healthy attachment looks like.

I think attachment is a real source of grounding, and threat, and meaning, and modes of relating worth talking about a lot. But it isn't some personality test hogwarts house shit like it gets reported on.

the things you are claiming I “did” were things that spot-the-antisemitism did and said.

intracommunity ableism is still ableism, hate speech against both Jewish and other disabled people is not okay, you can be both completely totally right to call out spot-the-antisemitism’s ableism and commit hate speech against random Jewish and disabled people. You can do both, nuance exists.

me calling you out on harmful behaviour and inciting hate speech is not a bad nor immoral thing I’d hope you would do it to me.

if you are mad at me swearing at you may I remind you that you have committed way worse acts of hate speech and yet I gave you benefit of the doubt. People are allowed to swear at people.

i have said you may be having a horrible time right now due to medication troubles and that people should not harass you regardless. And that they should keep in mind that you have been through a lot and do not want harassment. I do also humbly apologise for swearing it was wrong of me to and not conducive to anything helpful.

if anything I have been way too forgiving, what you have said to many well meaning and non-ableist/normal disabled people has been utterly vile and yet do I use that against you? Yet do I say those same things towards you? Yet do I mean to hurt or harass you? No.

I live my life, you live yours, I care about you enough to actually call out people who do wish to hurt you. I shouldn’t, but I do. If you return my very calm and sincere response with the same energy and hatred that you usually do it is not in good faith.

Out of curiosity, are there questions you didn't answer or tumblr failed to deliver

I currently have 253 things in my inbox.

There are a lot of reasons why I decide not to answer any particular question. The main one being that I think I'll get around to it later and then suddenly several months have passed and it's weird to answer it now. Every few months I purge the inbox to start things fresh.

Sometimes its asking my opinion on something I don't have any particular opinions on or don't have anything unique to say on the subject.

Sometimes it is information that is extremely easy to find and Googling it would be easier than asking me.

Sometimes its a question I have no answers for, like some linguistic or cultural things. Sometimes I just say I don't have an answer and hope someone who does decides to chime in.

It's really a case-by-case thing and depends a lot on my mood.
