I was expecting none of the songs to sound as badass as they sound. I thought this would be one of the quietest sagas, as in the songs would be more focused on introspection and stuff like that. But boy was I wrong
Like, the songs are like that and MORE. Specially No Longer You, which is such an unexpected banger for me. My favorite is Monster obviously, which made me realize that in all sagas the last songs are my favorites. So as I said in another post, Monster will be the animatic I'll be working on for now.
In Monster I'll present a little someone that appeared briefly in my Just a Man animatic last year. This shadow figure in the mirror
This is how I envision the "Monster", this dark reflection of Odysseus. When I did this part of the animatic I was already planning on bringing this figure back for when the underworld saga come out. YEAH THIS IS A YEAR LONG SET UP THAT I WAS WAITING PATIENTLY TO PAY OFF.
So my animatic of Monster is probably going to be my personal favorite. I have a lot of cool ideas planned, complicated shots that I still have no idea how I'll pull off and delicious, juicy angst
I have so many animatic ideas rn it’s KILLING ME. I listed the ideas on twt so I’ll also put them here
Boyfriend (Dove Cameron)
- Dazai stealing a girl Chuuya was talking to and telling her all these great things about himself but he’s actually (not to subtly) communicating it to chuuya
Careless Whisper (George Michael)
- a stupID ASS IDEA OF DAZAI HANGING OUT A CAR SERENADING CHUUYA WHILE HES MID FIGHT
- both chuuya and the guy he’s fighting are confused
- an unlucky ADA member is driving the car, drifting in circles around the fight area
Something Stupid (Frank Sinatra)
- progression of teen skk to adult skk relationship
- angst?
- self explanatory lmao
WHAT DO U THINK? Is it terrible should we trash it? Should we burst into flames? U be the judge
what is your thought process when doing animatics? Do you write a script beforehand, determine what scene will be a close up, or wide shot before? Or do you figure that out during the storyboard phase and let your gut feeling decide? :D
Most of it is gut feeling
The preparation in each animatic changes up a bit depending on how confident I am on the visuals. When there's action sequences I do make some thumbnails, since in this case, each frame and shot is essencial to help convey the message in a quick and dynamic way, without getting too fast-paced or too slow. The thumbnails are always a mess though. Here's the thumbnails for Keep Your Friends Close when Odysseus wakes up for example:
I don't blame you if you didn't understand anything lmao. That did help me to get that scene right though!
But yea, I don't do thumbnails for the entire lenght of my animatics. Just for some scenes here and there.
What I do a lot is sketch out the ideas I have for shots to visualize better the finished product. Here are some of the Puppeteer ones for example.
These are very old btw, but helped me start to figure out the general aesthetic of the first Circe segment of the video.
My process is a bit messy and hard to explain, but it's fun and it works so I guess that's all that matters.
