Rebecca Caine: She has a voice that can actually rival Carlotta's, and her Christine was every inch the romanesque, passionate heroine and you could totally see why the Phantom and Raoul were both in love with her. And she is PISSED in the Final Lair, and it's glorious.

Patti Cohenour: AN ACTUAL ANGEL. Graceful, kind, compassionate, airy, without ever coming off as a deer in the headlights, and with a golden voice to boot and a Think of Me cadenza of her own.

Julie Hanson: Look, I don't like Susan Kay's take on Christine for a variety of reasons. Julie Hanson took one look, removed everything about Kay!Christine that was annoying, gave her a nice little spine of her own while keeping the childlike quality which all culminates in a haunting finale where you can tell she'll be traumatized for life, and it takes the tragedy to another level.

Rachel Barrell: She felt very Victorian to me? Could be the looks since she has a very "Victorian" face, if that makes any sense. And if anything, I know people will disagree with me but I remember my first impression of Christine reading the Leroux novel was pretty much like how she portrayed her in the musical - yeah, Leroux!Christine was scared shitless, both at the situation and what she could end up doing or being forced to do, but she also had a backbone of steel, she had anger about the whole situation and wasn't afraid to show it, and she didn't take any shit from anyone. Rachel embodied that perfectly.

Kristi Holden: A dreamy but nervous Christine, who's still able to overcome her fear of the Phantom to give him the scrap of love he needed so badly in order for the good to overcome the bad, and who was somehow even better in the World Tour than in Las Vegas (and she was already quite good there).

Anna O'Byrne: Her voice can be a little all over the place, but she basically took the tormented side of Christine and upped it to eleven. And she's absolutely gorgeous to boot.

Samantha Hill: Not the strongest vocal-wise, but she basically thought every single gesture up to the last without ever over-acting, all the while being an adorable little ball of charm.

Elizabeth Welch: If I had to sum up her Christine, all the odds are against her, and she decides to be even kinder as a result. I wouldn't say her Christine is in love with the Phantom (granted, I haven't seen her with Jeremy Stolle yet and Hugh Panaro doesn't really lend to a more romantic take on the story), but it makes her kindness for Panaro's little asshole of a Phantom (affectionate) all the more poignant.

Valerie Link: Her Christine is an adorable puppy person who likes everyone and can be genuinely shocked and hurt when people are, say, mean to her (which makes Nicky Wuchinger pushing around people who are rude to her all the more satisfying, because, really, HOW DARE YOU)

Lauri Brons: Imagine if Anne Shirley was in Phantom of the Opera. That's it, that's Lauri Brons's Christine.

Lisa-Anne Wood: Another nervous Christine, who gets frightened pretty easily, is the shy side, but push her around, and she will let you know how much she DOES NOT LIKE IT, which gives for a nice little character arc.

Mary Michael Patterson: Subdued but with lovely facial expressions, she plays a Christine that seems humble, calm and shy at first but who has a backbone of steel if you poke her too much.

Tamara Kotova: Gorgeous voice, lovely facial expressions - she's basically the Russian Rebecca Caine in some regards, because you could totally see why the Phantom and Raoul would be as besotted as they are with her.

Emmi Christensson: She improved SO MUCH from the West End to Stockholm, intelligent and mature but with a nice arc of her own.

Meghan Picerno: I personally liked her better on Broadway than in the World Tour, where I was kind of meh about her, but her take-no-shit Christine worked pretty well with Ben Crawford's crazy ball Phantom (who I'll admit can be a bit of an acquired taste) and John Riddle's serious but loving Raoul. Plus, opera voice!

Sybille Glosted: I made no secret of how great the Copenhagen revival cast was, and she was no exception. Beautiful voice, detailed, thought-out performance that just tells a narrative with gestures, responded to her fellow actors instead of just going through the motions.

Holly-Anne Hull: So many interesting details I've never seen with Christine before, plus, she's adorable.

Kanisha Marie Feliciano: Beautiful, beautiful voice, and such lovely facial expressions that give her a bit of a cinematic quality - I could easily see her transfer well from stage to screen.

KB have said that they could totally see them making protein smoothies together and then Thora would accidentally break the blender because she has bad luck. However, Nikolai wouldn’t be upset about it. He’d either just fix the blender himself or he’d come home later in the day with a new one 💖

Nikolai Kotova: intense and very intimidating, he is the most responsible Kotova brother.

Fun Fact: Nikolai does not like to watch tv and probably wouldn’t watch tv unless it’s a sports game. However, he would watch One Tree Hill or Vampire Diaries with Thora because she loves those shows and he loves making her happy.

Baylee Wright: overly passionate about ordinary things and always on the hunt for a great beef patty.

Fun Fact: Baylee's birthday is in December (we don't know the exact date) and she is 5'4'' tall!

Out of all the Christines you've seen, who do you think could be called the Perfect Christine (or the one closest to it)? Like the one who does everything right and does so splendidly

I think everybody at the top of my favorites list (and a couple in the rank below) might count as my Perfect Christine! Many of them also have such differing, yet totally valid, interpretations, that it feels impossible to narrow it down to just one!

But fine, if you want me to go total Hunger Games on the list, then I guess the really short list might be something like:

Rebecca Caine - The Perfect Old-School Christine. Beautiful and unique vocals, passionate and intelligent and strong within the confines of what was allowed to actresses back then.

Julie Hanson - The Perfect Kay Christine, the Perfect Childish Christine. The most innocent, most naive, most traumatized Christine, encapsulates the very fragile Christine of Kay's book. Also worked best with Hugh Panaro, resident Kay!Phantom.

Barbara Fonyo - The Perfect Mature Christine, the Perfect Complex Christine. Operatic vocals and a grown-up, sophisticated, complicated, nuanced performance and relationship with the Phantom, all sorts of emotions all over her face.

Jennifer Hope Wills - The Perfect Strong Christine. Vocals not that memorable, but the most intelligent, observant Christine, feisty and fiery at times, holds a deep passion only the Phantom brings out as well as genuine love for Raoul.

Gina Beck - The Perfect Overall Christine. My bias is showing here, but she has the looks, the sympathetic interpretation and thoughtful acting. Only thing really lacking is the voice (and the occasional overacting here and there).

Anna O'Byrne - The Perfect Leroux Christine. A bit underwhelming vocally but basically brings out as many aspects from Leroux's book as she can. Melancholy, nervous, both drawn to and absolutely terrified of the Phantom, on the verge of going hysterically insane at times.

Tamara Kotova - The Perfect Overall Christine. Because I can have two. Again, the looks, the acting, the vocals (better than Beck's to be honest), the love and compassion for both Raoul and the Phantom and the conflict it generates.

Kelly Mathieson - The Perfect Mysterious Christine. Nice vocals and fascinating interpretation - forthright yet subtle, the clear indications in her acting that still waters run deep, that there is so much going on in her head and we're getting only a fraction of it.

Secret Santa here! Today’s question: we see a lot of people talk about Christines and Phantoms with good chemistry, but which Christine/Raoul pairing(s) do you think have the best chemistry together?

Since you’re asking the RC fangirl... More under the cut!

Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton: Besides being the OG R/C pairing, Steve’s Raoul is just the sweetest and a gentleman of a Raoul! Strong, noble, sweet, and protective, he’s what I look for in a Raoul.

Julie Hanson and John Cudia: Julie’s a rather child-like, innocent (and traumatized) Christine while John plays Raoul as a protective, noble Raoul, willing to put himself in harm’s way for Christine’s sake. 

Ana Marina and Alexander Lewis: Ana’s a Christine who portrays her as a daydreamer and head-in-the-clouds while Alexander’s Raoul is more grounded and realistic. Definition of tol and smol too. 

Tamara Kotova and Evgeny Zaycev: These two play Raoul and Christine as cute sunshine babies. But they especially shine in Final Lair. Where Evgeny hugs and kisses Tamara before disaster strikes(TM) and Tamara trying to rescue Evgeny from the noose and crying on him.

Emmi Christensson and Anton Zetterholm: What ALW pair comes to mind when I read Leroux. Anton being a gentle, lovely Raoul with Emmi being a withdrawn, sweet, nervous Christine. 

Anna O’Byrne and Simon Gleeson: Ok, I might get flames for this but actually I prefer how R/C was presented in LND Melbourne than E/C (I’ll explain more once I liveblog it). With Simon portraying Raoul as someone who’s sober and trying to change his ways for the better and Anna somewhat showing feelings for Raoul. And it really makes me wish LND ended differently.

“When I received a message with the code, I almost started crying of joy. I wanted it so much for my mother because I really believed that she deserved it. I called her afterwards and told her about it, and even though she is not a very emotional person, I could hear the happiness in her voice.

“I really want her to get some rest, so I think we will go to Thailand or Indonesia for a short vacation once things return to normal. She has never visited Asia, but I’m sure she will like it. Thank you for giving us hope Qatar Airways.”

Camitri (Camila x Dimitri)

“Please,” Camila says, “I’m an expert on matters of the heart. I know things.” 

John steals a second shot from Camila, his expression sour. “You’ve only been with one person,” he announces, and Dimitri rocks back in shock. “That makes you an expert on Douchebag Dave and that’s it.”

“Where’s Douchebag Dave?” Dimitri asks. “Is he here? Tonight?” He’s even more intrigued, looking around for this dude. 

“His name is Craig,” Camila says, “and no. You’re never meeting him. No Kotova is.”

Dimitri cocks his head. “You’re anti-Kotova?” 

“Today I’ve decided I’m anti-drama, which means I’m anti-Kotova. At least for the next half-century.” She forces a smile at a customer at the end of the bar and waves. 

“I’ll wait for you, princess.” 

Camila actually smiles. I think she’s surprised by her own reaction.
