That little SHIT Saiga Aoiki is part of a mastermind trio in my extended worldbuilding, he’s a total sadistic creep who likes to have fun, and happens to find two things fun, scaring people and sex, so as you can imagine he’s the Actual Worst, he exists purely to be Rantaro’s mastermind who he punches in the face for creeping on his sister, very much the kind of person to be like “aww it’s cute that you’re running~ you sure know how to let me have fun” and then snag your sleeve with a thrown knife. Do not trust him to do anything unless you can either bribe him, make it fun, or bully him into it. He’s got a wicked aim with basically anything, but if you get up close his hand to hand is very lacking and he won’t have room to throw or aim.

He’s sort of the big boss of the trio with Hirone Yano the ultimate violinist and local monokuma selfshipper serving as his lackey as they bully and harass Komasa Tao the ultimate trapper and third member who is forced to be here and deserves better and will get better when Future Foundation rescues her

The day after the release of the last album of the LOVE YOURSELF series, the first date of their long expected world tour began in Seoul. The album had already been recorded and when they weren’t filming comeback shows, RUN BTS or other things, they were prepping for the tour so it didn’t leave Grace time to really settle into the thought that this was the end of one era at least. 

It did bring her favourite song to perform, IDOL. And the remix with Nicki Minaj allowed Grace to show off her sub-rapping skills whenever they had to perform the remix version, with full support from Nicki Minaj herself. Once again, Grace left the boys to The Truth Untold with Steve Aoiki and participated in writing the lyrics for I’m Fine. She also had the worry of producing another solo track for the album, one that matched the others perfectly. 

It was during dance rehearsals for MIC DROP that the idea came to her - it was during this period she was going through a lot of self-doubt and she revealed in a V-LIVE with ARMY that she always experienced doubts and that Jungkook had told her to keep breathing, even though it was more in relation to her dancing, it stayed with her that she needed to keep breathing, keep going and to stay grounded in the now and not worry about the next day. 

BREATHIN’ in English/Korean became Grace’s solo for LOVE YOURSELF: ANSWER. A full English version was released for Grace’s second mixtape and the full Korean version was released for the music video that had been filmed. 

During this time as well, Grace had begun to get offers of collaborations from various other artists in Korean and America. She did a few with the time she had and it began a trend for her that whatever collab she was doing, she would wearing a hint of purple for ARMY/BTS so they were always with her. 

The clothing and makeup for this era were bright yet neutral, with hints of pink and warm colours. Her suit for IDOL had been specially made in England, with hints of the UK’s flag in the colours of her suit. It was also during this time that Hobi and Taehyung were involved in her tour costumes, adapting her versions of the boys outfits to be more suitable yet womanly. The opening suit for IDOL was to reflect ‘princely’ so they made Grace’s uniform slightly different - hers was more of a military styled jacket of black and gold, black sparkly pants with gold patterns and high heels to match. 

During the tour in the UK, especially during SO WHAT, she came out in denim shorts with a t-shirt with the UK flag. It did cause some controversy back in Korea about her heritage and whether she was a dual-citizen, whether she should have the right, even though she lived in South Korea since she was young and her birth had been legally registered in South Korea by her grandparents.

Danny, you're doing...what I believe and hope to be a good job for the most part, but dude, what the hell? Is Yonakiuguisu's sister's name "Invicious" or "Amvicious"? As far as I can find, you don't have a twitter like David Evelyn, which would be really helpful for putting out statements to acknowledge things like that

God, this really is Medaka Box all over again...I still see people calling the nurse Aoiki instead of Aoki!

Last week, I didn't make any definitive statement on which choice that Iroha would make, but I did suggest that if he chose the dancer over his friend, he'd do it because that's what the friend would do. I was close, but not quite right: he chose the dancer because he wouldn't be able to face his friend if he'd abandoned someone else, and only wants to see his friend after achieving his dream of ending all wars

This is pretty typical shonen stuff, and definitely a Nisio move (see: Hitoyoshi not marrying Medaka for ten years until he proved he was her equal), but man it's a narrative choice that I eat up. That sort of conviction is always something that makes characters easy to get invested in since it gives more weight to their goals, and it provides a lot of opportunity for drama, like the two of them having a chance reunion before that time or otherwise being forced together at a low point for Iroha

It also helps recontextualize Iroha's original statement that he wants to end all wars. Originally, I thought it was something he just said to appease Oboro, or maybe that he was inspired by Kogoe, but now I'm thinking that Am/Invicious is actually the one who inspired him. What she said or did doesn't really matter right now, but whatever it was, I think that's what's shaped all of Iroha's actions up to this point. Protecting Kogoe, choosing not to use the Glasses Weapon, picking Kasuri during the Casse-Tete Quartet, all of that could well be an attempt to emulate [X]vicious, and our meeting her will make many of the pieces of Iroha's character fall into place (the rest of course will be put in place by meeting his dad)

Also, she's definitely First Girl. The Childhood Friend. The gold standard by which all other girls in the Cipher Acadaharem will be judged. Or they're too close for that to even be an option, who knows, but I'm willing to bet that at least Anonymity or Kasuri are gonna get competitive

Speaking of Anonymity, I'm sad to see that she's not in the starting lineup, but she's gotten so much shine lately that I can't complain. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all, so it's going to be fun to see her return, especially since I'm more than willing to bet that it'll be as a member of Class F's team to capitalize on that plot point

I also love that Hanagoromo is the one to join from Class E; she's easily been the one from that class with the most presence, both in that she's reappeared a number of times (seen when Iroha recruited Yugata to the Trilemma and during the Trilemma itself), AND was hiding during every major story beat prior to her introduction. Her gimmick is super fun, her sniper imagery is inventive, and gosh darnit, she's just really pretty. I think she's my 4th cutest (Anonymity, Yosaimura, Yugata), but that's subject to change

I enjoyed Oboro's deference to Kasuri before joining the team too, it's a nice little callback to their shared introductory story. That's all I really have to say on the subject for now, but I might revisit it later

It looks like we're going to be entering the metaverse next week, but honestly I won't be surprised if Nisio finds a way to stall for a few more chapters. We're so close to the 1-year anniversary, and that seems like a milestone he'd want to time a little better. Either he's going to stall, or he's going to use the anniversary for something specific within the metaverse. Since we don't know yet what the metaverse is going to be like, I can't really hazard a guess on how it will alter the dynamic of the story, but it really does feel a lot like how it felt waiting to get to the Grand Line in One Piece. It's only the starting line, but it feels like a huge payoff in and of itself

essence maoira aoiki was given a rough start to life from the get go. growing up in a busy beach town in the united states known as virginia beach, virginia, her mother was a teenage mom, struggling with drug addiction and stuck in an abusive relationship with a boyfriend, essence’s father. from the start he didn’t want her, and though it killed essence’s mom to do so, she ended up letting her sister, essence’s aunt, custody of baby essence and her older sister raina. this was the beginning of essence’s abandonment wound. essence still kept somewhat of an relationship with her mother up until she was around the age of twelve. she was mature for her age, she had to be. her circumstances in life required her to grow up fast to survive. though they didn’t live a fancy life, essence, her older sister, and her aunt were safe, and they were there for each other, so much so, essence calls her gijiroku, which is japanese for mom. essence and her older sister are extremely close, they’re more best friends than sisters, and she’s taught her everything she knows about life. she always guided her, kept her secrets, and protected her even when she thought she didn’t need it. the two were inseparable and everyone was jealous of how the two demanded attention whenever they entered a room. essence was always a wild child, she had a lot of passion and fire burning inside of her and she couldn’t help but to let it out. some were intimidated by her. she was the kind of kid on the play ground who wasn’t afraid to get rough. she stood up to bullies and always used her strength and power for good.

she was rough around the edges, blunt, and sometimes too impulsive, but she was good at heart, and truly cared about people and treating everyone kindly and with respect. she’s extremely close to her japanese roots and has a space dedicated to her culture in her apartment she shares with her aunt. the path that led her to living in a completely different country is a path she’d never imagined life would take her. a year ago, out of thin air, her sister raina disappeared. she left her job at the boardwalk one summer night and was never seen again. no evidence left behind, no suspects, nothing. it was almost as if she didn’t want to be found. this sent essence into a spiral, and she couldn’t accept the fact that her sister was gone. no one in two seemed to care anymore after six months, the police kept telling her and her aunt that there was nothing more they could do and eventually the case went cold. essence has spent every ounce of her free time since searching for clues and tracing her sisters steps. while passing out missing persons flyers she received a credible tip from a brother of her sister’s boyfriend that led her to virginia beach. essence’s aunt was on board from the beginning and the two of them moved from richmond, va and now are living in a cute town house in virginia beach while they search for raina in hopes that she’s still alive.

while living in virginia beach, essence has come up with creative ways to make a living so her and her aunt can afford to live in their townhouse. taking up a real job would leave them with less time to find raina, something they both would rather not sacrifice. essence doesn’t discuss her business with her aunt and her aunt doesn’t ask any questions. little does she know, essence is behind a huge dark web virtual dispensary that sells things like psychedelic mushrooms, weed, and lsd. no other drugs than those. she’s somewhat of a computer genius and has hidden her identity securely enough to where she’s confident she can’t be traced, though she knows this can only go on for so long before she’s caught, keeping that in mind she plans to save most of the money up and then delete the entire system from existing. the tricky part is knowing when to finally close up shop.
