So, um, I haven't quite worked out yet how to be a real person on tumblr (I'm used to hiding behind a user name on here and hyper fixating on whatever weird things I like) but I thought I'd better mention that the absolutely gorgeous cover Atheneum have given my book is up online now. any advice for someone trying to get back into art? know this sounds sudden and on-the-spot but i've loved ur work for years and i've been meaning to ask you for a while

This might not apply to your exact situation, but this is a little lengthy and involves burnout and reassessing how I handle my time and energy throughout the day, so I'm putting it after the break.

A summary of the most important advice I can give, though:

I've generally found that the first step in getting back into art is to be kind to yourself, whether that's allowing yourself to suck, allowing yourself to have time and privacy to draw, validating yourself as an artist, acknowledging your struggles. Brookes Eggelston, an artist who made a video on burnout, included in his checklist "Are you okay?" Like, just, is there something on your mind? Something bothering you? Is there something you need to do or a conversation you need to have with someone to put your mind at ease? It's important to be kind to yourself, or else getting back into art is going to be harder than it has to.

So it's a funny thing, I literally just googled how to deal with burnout, and specifically/separately how to deal with artistic burnout (I actually sat down and took notes). Reading this article also did help, even if I didn't actually draw again until a little while after.

The point that I found most helpful through all of it is that burnout and creative effort all ties back to managing my own time, health, and energy. Before I could even try to muster the energy to do creative work, I had to realize that I was already burnt out.

Even if I wasn't drawing, I was working on worldbuilding, conlanging, bookbinding, sewing, and all sorts of other things, with this idea that if I took a break from just drawing, then I would eventually be able to come back to drawing fully refreshed. That is not the case. I was constantly running on empty already because any creative energy I could have spent on drawing, I'd already spent elsewhere.

Through that, I realized that as I've gotten older, I've become someone who needs to be busy. It's why I've picked up so many hobbies. I needed to relearn how to slow down and learn to allow myself to do nothing. It was important, too, in being able to confront certain thoughts and feelings I'd essentially been running away from up to that point.

By understanding that, I started doing things to better take care of myself; taking more breaks while working on projects, not spending every free moment at work on a new project, not spending all my time at home gaming, and not pushing my mental and physical boundaries too far too often. I've been trying to take meaningful rest time, time that's not engaged with the internet, a game, or television. If it's a craft, it has to be one that's not demanding in the slightest, but it's typically better to be able to do nothing and just appreciate being in the moment.

Aside from all of that, the advice in the article I linked is legitimately helpful and one of it's points is one I resonate with. MARCO ELBA “Buenos Aires”

Il cantautore e producer di Savona torna con un nuovo brano pop dal sapore argentino che danza al confine con il tango. Un nuovo tassello che anticipa l’uscita del suo primo EP

Marco Elba torna con il nuovo singolo “Buenos Aires”: un'esplosione di energia e passione, che trasporta l'ascoltatore direttamente nel cuore pulsante dell'Argentina, con le sue piazze roventi e le atmosfere avvolgenti del tango. L'anima vibrante e passionale del pezzo si fonde con la freschezza della musica attuale, dando origine a un'atmosfera avvolgente, calda e affascinante, che richiama il mondo del celebre tango argentino.

“Buenos Aires” ha un significato profondo: l’intera canzone è infatti un omaggio alla città patria indiscussa del tango e prende vita grazie a una particella della celebre "Milonga de Amor", rielaborata e sviluppata in modo inedito e attuale. Non è solo un invito a ballare, ma un'immersione totale nella passione scandita da ritmiche serrate e sonorità suadenti che richiamano lo scenario sudamericano.

Si tratta di un brano estremamente ballabile che si distingue per l'originale fusione tra l'essenza tradizionale del tango argentino e una reinterpretazione ultra moderna di questo mondo musicale.

Il pezzo è stato scritto, composto e prodotto da Marco Elba ed è l’ultimo tassello di un progetto che ha iniziato a vedere la luce nel 2022: l’EP “Frammenti” in uscita il 21 giugno 2024 per l’etichetta Volume!.

Marco Elba nasce a Savona nell’agosto 2000. Sin da subito è attratto dal mondo della musica. All’età di otto anni inizia a studiare pianoforte, proseguendo poi con gli studi accademici sotto la guida dell'insegnante Elena Buttiero, a cui affianca lo studio del canto con la vocal coach Debora Tamagnini. Una volta terminati gli studi decide di esplorare il pop contemporaneo iniziando a scrivere propri pezzi con uno stile moderno, internazionale e personale. Durante l'estate del 2018 arriva in finale al “Premio Nazionale per la Canzone d’Autore Emergente” e in finalissima al "Liguria West Music Contest”. Il 19 maggio 2019 si classifica al 1° posto nel concorso interregionale “Coppa Italia”. Il 31 maggio dello stesso anno si aggiudica la vittoria del “Contest Musicale CPS 2019” di Savona. Il 19 luglio, dopo aver superato tutte le varie fasi del concorso ed essersi guadagnato la finalissima al Priamar di Savona, vince la nona edizione di “VB Factor” nella categoria “Canto Big” con un suo inedito. Il 1° settembre viene invitato come ospite al “Festival Mare 2019” di Sanremo per l'assegnazione del premio omonimo, a seguito della propria attività artistica e dei successi riscontrati durante l’anno. Affina parallelamente le proprie capacità di producer e lavora in prima persona alle produzioni dei suoi pezzi, ricercando un sound sempre nuovo, originale ed incisivo. Nel 2021 pubblica i due singoli di esordio, “Ossidiana” e “Fahrenheit”, seguiti da “Squid Game”, che in breve tempo entrano in rotazione radiofonica sui circuiti nazionali e riscuotono grande successo sulle piattaforme digitali, totalizzando più di 1milione di streams su Spotify. Nell’estate 2022 ottiene numerosi successi. È tra i vincitori dei concorsi “Contesto Indie” e “Un mare di stelle”. Il 22 luglio vince il prestigioso “Premio Nazionale per la Canzone d’Autore Emergente”. Il 1° premio gli viene consegnato da big della musica italiana tra cui Massimo Cotto, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi dei “La Crus”, Cristiano Godano dei “Marlene Kunz” e Paolo Enrico Archetti Maestri degli “Yo Yo Mundi”. Il 21 agosto vince il rinomato “Premio Ausonia”, guadagnandosi così l’invito al gran galà televisivo del 23 agosto in qualità di ospite d’onore, accanto a celebri artisti e personalità del mondo dello spettacolo italiano. Il 2 dicembre esce il singolo “Hit invernale”, che in brevissimo tempo entra in rotazione su più di 400 radio tra circuiti nazionali e regionali, viene inserito nel palinsesto di più di 100 format radiofonici in rotazione su più di 350 radio, e raggiunge la posizione numero 29 nella Indie Music Like Classifica nr. 661 del 02/02/2023. Il videoclip del brano, che esce poche settimane dopo, riscuote grande successo e viene trasmesso su più di 150 tv tra emittenti nazionali e regionali. Il 31 marzo 2023 esce il singolo “XN”, anch’esso accompagnato dal videoclip, che in breve tempo supera tutti i risultati raggiunti dal precedente singolo “Hit invernale”. A maggio dello stesso anno esce il singolo “Rub’ al-Khali” e il 26 gennaio 2024 il nuovo brano “Batman”. Tutti questi pezzi andranno a comporre il primo EP del producer savonese dal titolo “Frammenti”, in uscita il 21 giugno e preceduto dall’ultimo singolo “Buenos Aires” pubblicato il 14 giugno.
