Part 1: In Tribute to Reggae Month

The use of reggae music by choreographers of the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) is as old as the music itself. The NDTC, which was founded in 1962 before the flowering of reggae, grew up with the music in its progress from ska to rock steady through to its present manifestation.

Back in 1972, Tommy Pinnock created Desperate Silences, a work which drew on the music of Burning Spear, largely to provide ambiance for the piece, which caught the anguish and dread reality of Kingston inner-city.

Three years prior Pinnock’s experimentations, Rex Nettleford explored the riddim in his All God’s Children (1969) using it for the downtown characters.

By 1973, reggae was in full swing, and the NDTC adopted to the challenge. Rex Nettleford’s Street People (1973) mixed Desmond Dekker’s “Poor Me, Israelites” with Ernie Smith’s “Ben Dung”. The work portrays scenes from the life in the streets of urban Kingston.

In 1974, Nettleford created Tribute to Cliff, a work dedicated to Jamaican composer and singer, Jimmy Cliff. The music which inspired the work were “Price of Peace”, “On My Life”, “Sitting in Limbo”, and “Many Rivers To Cross”.

Reggae artists who have provided much musical inspiration in the mid 1970′s included Bob Marley for the critically acclaimed Court of Jah (1975) choreographed by Rex Nettleford and Toots Hibbert‘s compositions for Backlash (1975) also created by Nettleford.

Marley’s “Rebel Music”, “No Woman No Cry” and “Suh Jah Seh” provided the score for Court of Jah. The work won critical acclaim when the NDTC appeared at City Center in New York and later when Clive Thompson Dance Company, based in Staten Island, performed the work at Lincoln Center, NY.

Backlash utilised “What A Bam Bam” and Toots’ “Christmas Song”. The programme note read:

The gaolers and the gaoled are really all prisoners together. So out of agony of repression and brutality come protest, violence even madness but also individual compassion and hope for redemption...

In 1981, Rex Nettleford turned to Marley’s music “Work” and “Redemption Song” for the dance-satire Rockstone Debate. The work appeared in four movements:

By 1984, Rex Nettleford’s Vibrations had gone full throttle in the rhythms, sounds, and sensibility of the reggae universe. The work drew on the music from Ya Ya — “Hold Fast”, R. Bromfield and Franklyn — “Namibia”, Gregory Isaac's — “Cool Down The Dub” and Papa Levi “Mi God Mi King”.

The next major dance-work by the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) that utilised reggae music was Children of Mosiah (1987). The work of Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff dominated the piece, but the choreographer saw others like Burning Spear, Peter Tosh and Mutabaruka. Nettleford’s Children of Mosiah paid tribute to the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and was presented on the Hundredth Anniversary of his birth.

Mary Brian (born Louise Byrdie Dantzler, February 17, 1906 – December 30, 2002) was an American actress, who made the transition from silent films to sound films.

Brian was born in Corsicana, Texas,[3] the daughter of Taurrence J. Dantzler and Louise B.. Her brother was Taurrence J. Dantzler, Jr.

Her father died when she was one month old and the family later moved to Dallas, Texas.[3] In the early 1920s, they moved to Long Beach, California. She had intended becoming an illustrator but that was laid aside when at age 16 she was discovered in a local bathing beauty contest. One of the judges was famous motion picture star Esther Ralston (who was to play her mother in the upcoming Peter Pan and who became a lifelong friend).

She didn't win the $25 prize in the contest, but Ralston said "you've got to give the little girl something." So, her prize was to be interviewed by director Herbert Brenon for a role in Peter Pan. Brenon was recovering from eye surgery, and she spoke with him in a dimly lit room. "He asked me a few questions, Is that your hair? Out of the blue, he said I would like to make a test. Even to this day, I will never know why I was that lucky. They had made tests of every ingénue in the business for Wendy. He had decided he would go with an unknown. It would seem more like a fairy tale. It wouldn't seem right if the roles were to be taken by someone they (the audience) knew or was divorced. I got the part. They put me under contract." The studio renamed her Mary Brian.

After her showing in the beauty contest, she was given an audition by Paramount Pictures and cast by director Herbert Brenon as Wendy Darling in his silent movie version of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan (1924). There she starred with Betty Bronson and Esther Ralston, and the three of them stayed close for the rest of their lives. Ralston described both Bronson and Brian as 'very charming people'.

The movie studio, who created her stage name for the movie and said she was age 16 instead of 18 because the latter sounded too old for the role, then signed her to a long-term contract. Brian played Fancy Vanhern, daughter of Percy Marmont, in Brenon's The Street of Forgotten Men (1925), which had newcomer Louise Brooks in an uncredited role as a moll.

Brian was dubbed "The Sweetest Girl in Pictures." On loan-out to MGM, she played a college belle, Mary Abbott, opposite William Haines and Jack Pickford in Brown of Harvard (1926). She was named one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in 1926, along with Mary Astor, Dolores Costello, Joan Crawford, Dolores del Río, Janet Gaynor, and Fay Wray.

During her years at Paramount, Brian appeared in more than 40 movies as the lead, the ingenue or co-star. She worked with Brenon again in 1926 when she played Isabel in P.C. Wren's Beau Geste starring Ronald Colman. The same year, she made Behind the Front and Harold Teen. In 1928, she played ingenue Alice Deane in Forgotten Faces opposite Clive Brook, her sacrificing father, with Olga Baclanova as her vixen mother and William Powell as Froggy. Forgotten Faces is preserved in the Library of Congress.

Her first sound film was Varsity (1928), which was filmed with part-sound and talking sequences, opposite Buddy Rogers. After successfully making the transition to sound, she co-starred with Gary Cooper, Walter Huston and Richard Arlen in The Virginian (1929), her first all-sound movie. In it, she played a spirited frontier heroine, schoolmarm Molly Stark Wood, who was the love interest of the Virginian (Cooper).

Brian co-starred in several hits during the 1930s, including her role as Gwen Cavendish in George Cukor’s comedy The Royal Family of Broadway (1930) with Ina Claire and Fredric March, as herself in Paramount's all-star revue Paramount on Parade (1930), as Peggy Grant in Lewis Milestone’s comedy The Front Page (1931) with Adolphe Menjou and Pat O'Brien.

After her contract with Paramount ended in 1932, Brian decided to freelance, which was unusual in a period when multi-year contracts with one studio were common. The same year, she appeared on the vaudeville stage at New York City's Palace Theatre. Also in the same year, she starred in Manhattan Tower.

Other movie roles include Murial Ross, aka Murial Rossi, in Shadows of Sing Sing (1933), in which she received top billing; Gloria Van Dayham in College Rhythm (1934); Yvette Lamartine in Charlie Chan in Paris (1935); Hope Wolfinger, W.C. Fields’s daughter, in Man on the Flying Trapeze (1935); Sally Barnaby in Spendthrift (1936); and Doris in Navy Blues (1937), in which she received top billing.

In 1936, she went to England and made three movies, including The Amazing Quest of Ernest Bliss, in which she starred opposite Cary Grant, whom she became engaged at one stage.

Her final film of the 1930s was Affairs of Cappy Ricks, but she auditioned unsuccessfully for the part that went to Janet Gaynor in A Star is Born.

When World War II occurred in 1941, Brian began traveling to entertain the troops, spending most of the war years traveling the world with the U.S.O., and entertaining servicemen from the South Pacific to Europe, including Italy and North Africa. Commenting on those events that had occurred over 50 years ago, she said in 1996,

I was with Charlie Ruggles in Okinawa. And I was on the island of Tinian when they dropped the atomic bomb. Colonel Paul Tibbets, who was the pilot and the officer in charge [of dropping the bomb] took Charlie and me on the plane the next day, and nobody had been allowed in that encampment. So I was on the Enola Gay.

Flying to England on a troop shoot, Mary got caught in the Battle of the Bulge and spent the Christmas of 1944 with the soldiers fighting that battle.

She appeared in only a handful of films thereafter. Her last performance inmovies was in Dragnet (1947). Over the course of 22 years, Brian had appeared in more than 79 movies.

She played in the stage comedy Mary Had a Little... in the 1951 in Melbourne, Australia, co-starring with John Hubbard.

Like many "older" actresses, during the 1950s Brian created a career in television. Perhaps her most notable role was playing the title character's mother in Meet Corliss Archer in 1954. .

She also dedicated much time to portrait painting after her acting years.

Although she was engaged numerous times and was linked romantically to numerous Hollywood men, including Cary Grant and silent film actor Jack Pickford, Brian had only two husbands: magazine illustrator Jon Whitcomb (for six weeks, beginning May 4, 1941) and film editor George Tomasini (from 1947 until his death in 1964). After retiring from movies for good, she devoted herself to her husband's career; Tomasini worked as film editor for Hitchcock on Rear Window (1954) and Psycho (1960).

She died of natural causes on December 30, 2002 at a retirement home in Del Mar, California at the age of 96. She is interred in the Eternal Love Section, Lot 4134, Space 2, Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills Cemetery, overlooking Burbank, California.

In 1960, Brian was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a motion pictures star at 1559 Vine Street.

Rouge et Noir 第3弾ピットボスアーレン・クライヴ編『Double Down』：Drama CD 碟評

身為新人毒品取締官的你接到命令，開始計畫埋伏在Rouge et Noir 的犯罪集團House的幹部Arlen Clive（CV：テトラポット登）身邊，企圖單獨潛入這個組織。你開始在Arlen常常造訪的酒吧中逗留，製造跟他相處的機會，就這樣你成為了他的情人。在跟他相處的日子裡，你漸漸被這個神祕的紳士所吸引──

登登麻吉帥到沒朋友！Look！你們看看那個人設啊！金髮碧眼老外大長腿，用眼睛prpr到停不下好嗎！這次還是重低音登登，聽完已經好不起來了各位，美味不容錯過。Arlen Clive這位藥頭Boss應該可以算是目前馬甲碟史上最接近黑道或是黑手黨的男主角，我就覺得奇怪了，黑道題材在不管在哪種取向的作品都是不滅經典，然而目前還是沒有會社願意做黑社會系列（默）總之，登登這次演繹的Boss可說是集結了酷帥與瑪莉蘇於一身的男主，甘美的低音，聽來誘惑纏綿回味無窮。配合劇情緊張懸疑的節奏，崎嶇的劇情一路來到本篇的開放結局，讓人有著無限想像。我只想先謝過劇本娘御門蓮沒強行給岀跟Boss歡喜HE這種出格的本篇結局，但也沒有兩人雙亡或是一方死傷慘烈的BE。治癒（？）而不治鬱這點還是很值得讚賞的。

Rouge et Noir系列可以說是2017年的劇情向大作，聽過前兩彈的人應該都知道這系列妥妥的大作範兒，BGM十分華麗就像在看好萊塢的警匪片一樣精采刺激，做為乙女馬甲碟，這種製作排場真的不多見。最近淑女我聽碟的習慣是睡前聽，這碟激烈的槍聲有好幾次把我從床上嚇得坐起來，花鏡社在槍聲的音量上還請走心一點，差點以為自己要聾了orz 不過撇除這點，聽完之後根本就是睡不著好嗎！劇情太棒了啊！睡你麻痺，起來high（不）

然後說說2017大勞模－テトラポット登，這次用的重低音簡直一本驚喜，故意用了帶點氣若游絲的風格，貼在耳邊說話特別魅惑，藥頭boss你好好說話你這是撩誰呢！Boss的各種餘裕跟冷靜，登登演得很棒，對於女主特別欲求的反差也很美味。總之就是不帥死你不罷休的作風（二哈臉）只不過H的時候對低音的掌控我覺得還需要加強，會有破音和音域不穩的現象，不過登登我是非常看好的，這老司機有實力！（拇指）

好的，我要去跟登登一起吸毒了，你們不要阻止我！

1.Deception

一上來不把你帥一臉不罷休的登登（已死）一如往常的sexy（x）飄爽英姿走進酒吧跟女主碰頭。還科普了好幾種酒的小常識，紳士就是乳此博學。女主跟Arlen已經認識了兩個月，女主很快就用自己的美色迷惑了他。然後就開始調情了起來，說女主很漂亮但是自己卻沒什麼自覺，如果連女主都察覺不到，他就不用當個男人了（允悲臉）女主說本來以為他應該更冷淡，就被他撩了說，他在床上可是「非常熱情」的。最後紅黑系列的主題BGM再次響起，登登酷帥報幕。

2.Feeler Bet

回到家就是一陣火辣辣的親親（從手指縫偷看）這麼快就上肉了，一反這系列的風格啊（笑）前兩彈都是到本篇的最後才開始滾床單，果然藥頭Boss男主有高度福利。畢竟女主是自動送上門給他吃的（為了執行任務），所以這種日常場面是一定要有的。不愧是老司機Player男主，各種前製作業做得很6，絲毫不馬虎的holy high啊（允悲）一邊親一邊玩女主，還可以接個公事電話，真的不要太餘預喔喔喔。然後電話那端叫做Nicolai的男人在之後的軌就被斃掉了也是很恐怖。一直都是後背位，果然很沉溺於肉慾。最後還說什麼因為女主平常就有在吃藥了，所以就隨心所欲biu biu了，我要去充值一下自己的節操了（羞跑走）現在的台詞還真是….（沉默不語但是好評）

我以為這軌已經要在登登的銷魂呼吸聲&喘息聲結束，沒想到還有後續。睡去的Arlen開始做噩夢，呼吸很亂，很害怕的樣子。被女主發現了這樣的異狀之後，就讓女主去別的房間睡了。雖然對女主是像玩物般的喜愛，但還是沒有放鬆警戒心。

3.Strategy

我還是覺得這軌的劇情有點誇張（笑哭）Arlen把女主帶上，準備跟其他的幫派做交易，只因為女主想知道他的工作狀況就讓跟上了，這會不會太輕巧了！說好的Boss說好的藥頭，這麼容易沉迷美色真的好嗎？還說什麼特別研修…好吧，認真就輸了。搞不好Arlen覺得這種屁丁點的事情讓女主知道也沒關係。劇情小亮點：大家都知道Rouge et Noir這種新型藥物有兩種效用，一種就是Rouge的媚藥作用，但是副作用的死亡毒藥Noir則是隨機出現。能夠剃除Noir作用的藥叫做 “Strategy”，由一個叫做Under Dog的組織所有，也算是House的死對頭。

然後就出現了很像港劇的發展，一手交錢一手交貨，然後Under Dog就出來攪局要搶貨了。此時藥頭登登非常耍帥的拿起槍，很有餘裕的解決掉了對方的人手，大概可以腦補成一手抱著美人一手拿槍斃人的感覺。還很溫柔的跟女主說，會害怕就不要看，然後都處理完了就在女主的耳邊說 “Open your eyes”。登登的英文真的是笑點（夠了）聽聽就好。一個老外講這樣的英文科學麼！

4.Under Dog

畫面一轉就變成了藥頭Boss招集了手下的藥販子，然後宣布裡面有Under Dog的內鬼，今天就要揪出反叛者然後正法。然後那個叫做Nicolai的男人本來是個舉報者，就被Boss一槍給斃了。另外又糾出了別人，一樣也是殺雞儆猴。我對這軌的印象真的只剩下音量巨大的槍聲，半夜聽嚇壞我了。藥頭Boss對女主的溫柔簡直…危險又令人沉醉，我想這大概就是壞男人的魅力吧。（遠望）

5.Heads Up

夜裡Boss又因為惡夢的關係睡得不好，驚慌之下一醒來就把女主壓在身下。女主當然是想要關心，但是只換來了Boss張狂的笑聲，說女主以為他是有苦衷才進入House的。之後唸了一堆謎之英文說是莎士比亞的名言，港真我聽了三四次都沒聽出來是神馬。最後強迫症如我把Boss後面釋義的日文拿去問辜狗大神才知道他說的是 “That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain” 出自哈姆雷特，意指即使笑著臉也可能是個惡人，人就是這樣的生物。登登的英文真的是個笑話，我真的不忍心再槽下去了。劇情未果，女主問不出什麼也只有乖乖被抱的份，消失在登登銷魂的親親裡fade out。

事後女主當然不能放棄又要打破砂鍋問到底，這次使出聖母攻勢，女主抱著Arlen。他卻只說了House對他是手段卻不是最終的目的。他已經警告過女主如果再問下去對雙方都沒好處，最後他直接跟女主說自己是她的敵人不是嗎？毒品取締官？對，女主的身份早就暴露了，反正GG。再來就是緊張的對峙，女主的頭已經被他的槍抵著了。港真，我以為女主的頭已經要打爆了，真打爆了就神作了233 反正之後各種囉嗦說女主的演技還是不錯的，作為年紀這麼輕的警官，要不是自己是前FBI，女主大概不會被發現。最後決定跟女主完俄羅斯賭盤… Boss你還真有餘裕，一般情況下不是像上一軌一樣直接殺頭了嗎？

女主當然得非常的命大，輪到自己的時候Arlen扣下板機都沒有子彈，然而輪到女主開槍她的手抖得像什麼一樣，非常動搖。連Arlen都看不下去把槍口抵在自己的頭上要幫她開槍，然而也沒事，直到最後一發是真子彈也沒把女主給殺了，就開始說教女人是怎麼樣的，戀愛是讓人發狂的之類的云云。反正都是意料之中（攤手

6.Dominate

萬眾期待的嗑藥Play，哈哈哈哈（我先發出了一陣喪心病狂的笑聲）首先Arlen 自己先服下了Strategy然後又以口喂了女主Rouge et Noir，兩個人一起嗑藥也是非常高能。是說Strategy到這彈才出現也是開了一個大外掛。然後就開始了狂亂的啪啪啪啪，只聽見各種笑聲跟大喘氣，好怕Boss要背過氣了，一個氣喘發作一命嗚呼了怎辦？嗨嗨嗨你已經服了Strategy了啊！各種言語責，說女主身為毒品取締官卻沉迷於毒品之中，是多麼的屈辱又淫／亂。一口氣來了三發我已經有點看傻了，我就在邊上看著就好（托腮）

官能場面點評：登登演技好評，但是H時的低音有待加強，中毒之後的喘息顯得很嘶啞甚至很蒼老，還會破音，聽了有點登登突然老化+精盡人亡的錯覺（笑哭）感覺對低音域的收放還不是掌握得很純熟。不過除此之外中毒登還是一本美味，台詞也是汙言汙語，雖不及主打隱語的碟子但也算是過過乾癮了。

7.Over Play

Anyway，一夜狂歡（？）之後女主就被Arlen關了起來，還要女主對著警部回報假消息，此時女主已經是Arlen的共犯了。Arlen隨即要給女主鼓勵，又要讓女主服下Rouge et Noir，但是女主拒絕了，及使這十日間不斷的被喂毒藥又被他侵犯。之後Arlen就留下女主獨自在房間忍受毒癮而離去。想也知道差不多是要洗白Arlen的時候了，是的，Arlen已經喜歡上女主了。

不久後Arlen帶著女主到了當時他審問Nicolai的地下停車場，說今晚就要在此跟女主道別了。先是問了女主的真名，還問問女主有沒有最後的話要對他說。女主又是一陣聖潔大招，想問Arlen的身世跟由來。Arlen很生氣，開始對女主大吼你閉嘴，我叫你閉嘴你沒聽到嗎？（登登演技矚目）最後Arlen當然還是沒辦法對女主開槍，而讓女主坐上了車。他們來到了House的前身所發跡的教��。他自白，多年來他一直在找著右手上的戒指的主人，他的雙胞胎弟弟－Arlen Clive。Arlen從小就是個非常暴力的人，父母跟周圍的人都遠離了他。最終他成為了藥販子，但是身為FBI的他卻無法阻止。兩年前在他跟Arlen的生日也是平安夜，他收到了禮物跟卡片。禮物卻是Arlen被剁下的右手腕，手指上的戒指說明了一切，因為捲入了Under Dog的紛爭而被處理了。為了查出事情的真相，他重新組織了名為House的集團，向Under Dog報復，同時也丟棄了Von Clive的名字。

好大一段可憐身世是怎麼回事！然後說完故事就又要跟女主說拜拜，果真巴底無情。然而又是打假球，我就知道女主不能死，Arlen對天開了一槍之後就要放女主自由了。最後他們倆又遇上了Under Dog來攪局又是一陣槍林彈雨之下開始患難見真情，我就知道我就知道。好，我不槽了。最後Arlen中了一彈，但不是傷及要害，為了止痛他服了類似安眠藥的東西， Arlen說他會暫時回去美國，去避避風頭順便療傷。兩個人談心到天明的節奏（遠望）

這軌最後的BGM讓我非常在意！非常非常在意！聽起來很像坂本龍一的名曲－Merry Christmas, Mr.Lawrence，前奏非常像，雖說主旋律是不一樣的，但是在我聽來有致敬的意味，御門蓮跟花鏡社也太有品味了吧。這首名曲同時也是電影 “俘虜”的主題曲，電影跟這碟的劇情有點謎之相似感啊喂！

8.Break Even

他打了個電話給周防部長，要警部來接女主走，但女主還在睡。電話掛了之後女主就醒了，最後說了這樣他們倆就扯平了，他還會再回來的。非常有意思的開放性結局，我個人十分喜歡。沒有出現Arlen其實也是局子裡的人這種破天荒的劇情真是太好了（是你想太多）

アニメイト特典「Another End」

如同Title的If結局，等同是本篇第八軌的替換。講述女主沒有回到警部，而是跟隨著Arlen去了美國。在國內，身為毒品取締官的女主行蹤成謎，對外的說法是女主成為人質被House扣押了起來。我擦！女主變成逃犯跟他亡命天涯惹！根本就是私奔到美國去了嘛，說好的女警呢？沒想到還有這種操作。然而是個歡歡喜喜啪啪啪的特典（竟然有了節操→小雨衣意味），吃不了BE或是NE的人可以用這個特典替換，雖然我個人覺得本篇就很棒了。

ステラワース特典「Sexual Call」

夜裡Arlen跟女主正打得火熱，風花雪月（？）之時Arlen接到電話必須出門一趟，就這樣女主就被放置Play在家裡。在回家的路上Arlen給女主打了電話，電話Play不打緊還玩視訊，說是要女主坐在客廳的沙發上因為前面有監視攝影鏡頭，要女主在視訊(應該說監視器)面前直播給他看，一邊跟女主講電話下指令一邊要女主DIY。電話Play我聽過不少，但這碟玩得可真不是一般6，沒看過有這種電話Play玩法，登登真有你的。女主本以為他在車上，其實他早就在家門口了，下一秒就surprise~然後啪啪啪，你個心機boy。

PS.此特典得知Arlen喜歡紫色內衣。開始研究紅黑系列的男主們各喜歡什麼顏色的不拉甲，我也是灰常淑女了。

總評，這張紅黑登我是聽得一本滿足，各方面都可圈可點，劇情雖然開了一些外掛但都還在容許範圍之內，畢竟沒有外掛劇情就圓不下去了。Anyway，登登真的棒，演這麼一個帥哥大藥頭真是酷炫狂跩屌炸天，也是個令人非常印象深刻的角色了。紅黑系列必聽的一張，順便推薦大家感受一下低音登的魅力！
