whenever I read the screenplay I notice how easily dry this dialogue could’ve been in regards to the character dynamics. Yes there already is implied history written into the script but the wistful drawl with which Tom Hardy says “Arthur?” Gratuitously life-changing. TH and JGL SOLD that ship with their suggestive performances. Don’t even get me started on the ad-libbed “darling” and the hotel room PASIV scene.

you know this phrase in the hotel scene, the "and I will lead them on a merry chase" is delivered as if it's an inside joke, a quote from one of their previous banters, maybe something Eames actually said to Arthur first when Arthur was distressed.

And they're just "yeah danger but we're together we're sure we got this because remember last time? It was also bad but we got out".

Even romantic feelings aside I think this is what friendship is — I'm here for you and you know it and we don't need to speak about it.

Guys, I know, I KNOW this fandom is 15 years old. But if I said I wanted to write an Arthur/Eames hanahaki fic, would you be interested?

Eames doesn’t look like he’s sorry. He puts his cigarette out in a long-dead potted plant on the windowsill, blind, almost knocking it over. “Tell me the truth, Arthur – how bloody long?” “Nine years,” Arthur says flatly. Because why the hell not, at this point. Eames stares, and stares. Arthur looks away. He knows what he must look like – face puffy from sleep, hair a fucking mess, bangs curling over his forehead in clothes that are too big, wildly unprofessional. For six years Eames has been angling for a casual fuck and Arthur’s been nursing the open wound of loving him like a fucking teenager with a crush – it’s pathetic. The indignity is astonishing. “Nine years,” Eames echoes, after a long time. “And I was – with you.”

Ever wake up thinking about an older hyper fixation and say hey the internet absolutely needs to hear about this?

Anyway, have some dom Arthur/sub Eames thoughts:

Arthur likes to be in control but his day job is just the illusion of control.

So in his personal life he is In Control. He knows what he wants for dinner. He knows what he wants to do in the evening. He knows what he wants with/from his partner.

Eames is a chameleon. He spends his life anticipating what others want and will do and acts accordingly.

And he likes it. He likes being what people need and what people want.

So in his personal life, Eames has been everything and anything that his partners want. Want someone to just take care of you? Service top Eames. Want someone to push the boundaries? Bratty Eames at your service.

Arthur allows Eames to just shut off. No anticipating, no thinking three moves ahead. All Eames has to do is whatever Arthur tells him to.

Sometimes Eames will get decision paralysis and Arthur will use that voice to tell him to go read a book or what to watch on tv.

And Eames can say no because they don’t have a 24/7 deal but he almost never does because what he needed was someone else to make the decision.

they live in dorms. they are roommates. arthur wants to graduate summa cum laude. eames wants to have sex with his roommate. these are both very difficult goals to achieve.

eames is majoring in anthropology and minoring in sociology

all of his electives are languages

arthur is majoring in something awful like finance or business

or perhaps Computer Information Systems which is apparently something that exists

arthur assumes eames is a slacker because he's always lounging around their dorm but eames has a 4.0 gpa

eames assumes lots of things about arthur every single day and he tells arthur about each and every one of them

which is annoying not only because it's hard to study with eames yapping in his ear but also because eames is always correct

eames makes it a personal goal to sleep with arthur before arthur graduates (he is set to graduate two years early)

arthur of course decides to kiss eames the moment his commencement ceremony is over

but really. the guy was taking like 8 courses a semester. how was he supposed to have a sex life in those conditions

arthur liked eames from day 1 but he actively chose not to because if he started sleeping with his roommate he would never get anything done

eames meanwhile flirts with arthur for an entire semester before realizing he genuinely has a crush on the guy

shortly after moving in with each other, eames makes some off-hand reference to some obscure art movement, effortlessly and correctly relating it to a book he read recently

arthur nearly breaks his pencil from the strain of not walking over, sitting on eames' lap, and tearing his clothes off

eames thinks arthur hates him but the truth is that arthur is shoving his feelings down so hard that the man is vibrating on a constant basis

still studying their faces between work . its a bit difficult and its a bit difficult bc tom hardy's face is like. perfect LOL LOL . maybe ill draw more chibis or smth

so i hope fandom wouldn't mind some arthur/eames but like......yuri...... i think eames would be a beautiful woman... and arthur would have beautiful hair she keeps up all the time but it's well-conditioned .... but eames would be a lil greasy but she's still pretty and can have unwashed hair for a day or 2.... sorry......sorry arthur is my bias for ur wife showing

So why did no one in Hollywood watch Inception and immediately pitch another movie starring Tom Hardy and JGL as romantic leads. Because I would’ve been on that shit so fast

Headcanons I've been collecting from fanfics more or less

Someone can go ahead and give me other ones bc frankly I feel I've only been at the tip of the iceberg with the Arthur/Eames resurgence I'm having.... maybe much of this is common knowledge LOL

_ Eames. Eames is his last name. Some names I've seen used so far are Stuart, Edward, Charles, Cedirc... Not sure which are my favorite just yet, but I think the very posh ones are a nice surprise

Arthur as a last name is neat but I'm more attached to it as his first name

Arthur being a littttle bit taller bc of the height in his shoes. They're the same height though. Eames doesn't mind smirking up at him

Eames being 3-4 years older. Eames being surprised at the fresh faced young looking twenty one year old Arthur he first meets for their first job together, and being faintly surprised to see him settling into the clean, pin-striped suits the older he got.

I'm generally seeing 29 year old Arthur mentions so I'm assuming its bc of the 2010 JGL which makes sense!

Arthur as an older sibling to a sister. I quite like this one and idk if its the 500 Days of Summer influence showing. If canon compliant, I don't think they're very close anymore but she's just as smart as Arthur is.

But. I also very much like only child Arthur and I think it makes a lot of sense.

He has his mother's eyes. His father wasn't in the picture, either from job overworking or just... left!

Canon compliant; Arthur is in contact with his mother sometimes but rarely so as to not lead anything dangerous to her.

Eames sending her gifts of aged literature and hard to find manuscripts....

Meanwhile, Eames is declared legally dead!

His father is somewhere out there in the world, retired from his own dubious career

I feel crazy about Arthur's military background -> organization, tedious work pipeline.... That a boyish and hot-blooded for a thrill character lies underneath the frown everyone sees. For all the seriousness he carries, Arthur's sarcasm and wit and a silver of playfullness exists.... But its hidden, reserved for a select few colleagues.

Everyone knows Arthur is sharp and collected and unwittingly built with 10 different plans

But Eames is built with 11 extra backup plans. Despite the fact that Eames seems like the star of the all trickery, prepared for the action and combat-- at heart his mastery is in forgery, and despite all his charms and reading of people, his forgery and a history of "slipping away in the night quietly" as a thief... that is his brilliance, in his quiet careful plans.

TLDR: i like the depth in Eames not being 100% charming flirt playboy. The caution and avoidant side to him

TLDR: I like the hidden playfulness of Arthur's. The violent and creative streak that tends to be forgotten. He stays in the business after all

After a job gone wrong, Eames finds himself in the middle of nowhere with Arthur, a run-down truck, and not another soul around for miles. When night falls and he has to choose between sleeping sitting up in the truck cabin or in the truck bed with Arthur, well...that truck bed can't be that uncomfortable, right?
