Nuance.
AI in itself is completely neutral. Like most technologies, it can be used for good and bad.
I work in software development, and we have data scientists who also work with AI tools to implement in the software (which is a professional/public sector administrative software), which would then make the job of the person working with that software easier in handling outlier cases or complex cases. It would not mean reducing the work force in those clients, nor in our company, as AI is just one part of the process.
Here, it's exactly one of those examples where AI actually helps people make their daily life easier and safer, and there are plenty of those, particularly in medical/engineering fields etc. where, once fully perfected, AI can be a useful aid. Same as computers, themselves, once were. Or the ability to instantly transmit data via the internet etc.
There are countless of applications for AI most of us haven't even thought or heard of, that have nothing to do with the unnecessary frivolities and taking creators' jobs it's widely known for. In those cases that are most prominent to the average person, AI is bad, 100%.
Just a few examples of why AI is not in itself a bad thing, quite the opposite:
Nobody needs AI generated TV scripts, songs, novels, background characters and scenes in movies. Those are things that take the soul out of art and jobs from creative people. But we do need AI where it helps save lives and improves other beneficial technologies.
AI is out there now, and it's as unstoppable as the internet once was, or the use of computers, or cars, or any other technology that had many sceptics at the beginning of its existence. We just have to make sure it is used in the right ways and not where it's harming others.
