A Rundown of Henry Kissinger's Life
“Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking. Witness what Henry did in Cambodia – the fruits of his genius for statesmanship – and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to Milošević. While Henry continues to nibble nori rolls and remaki at A-list parties, Cambodia, the neutral nation he secretly and illegally bombed, invaded, undermined, and then threw to the dogs, is still trying to raise itself up on its one remaining leg.”
--Anthony Bourdain (2018)
It's difficult to be precise, but all told Henry Kissinger killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in pursuit of American business interests.
EARLY LIFE
Henry Kissinger was born in 1923 as Heinz Kissinger in Fürth, Bavaria, Germany, to a German-Jewish family. Throughout his youth, he was relentlessly and violently harassed and discriminated against by members of the Hitler Youth and authorities. At the age of 15, Kissinger and his family fled Nazi Germany, settling in New York City. He finished high school at George Washington High School in NYC and began studying accounting at the City College of New York, but his undergraduate studies were interrupted in 1943 when he was drafted into the US army.
In the army, fluent German speakers were in short supply, so Kissinger was quickly assigned to military intelligence. During the American invasion of Germany, he worked to set up civilian administration of conquered cities and tracked down Gestapo officers as a Special Agent of the Counter Intelligence Corps. He received the Bronze Star Medal
After his time in the army, Kissinger returned to his studies. He graduated summa cum laude in political science from Harvard College, as well as his Masters and PhD. He taught at Harvard, and his studies focused on international 'legitimacy', when an international order is widely accepted by international leaders, without regard to public opinion or morality.
POLITICS
Beginning in the 1950s, Kissinger began to be more active on the political stage. He was a consultant for the National Security Council and a study director for the Council of Foreign Relations. He notably was against Eisenhower's massive retaliation nuclear doctrine, where the United States would respond to a nuclear attack with a much, much greater nuclear attack. Instead, Kissinger advocated the use of tactical nuclear weapons on a regular basis in more wars.
In the 1960s, Kissinger began working with Republicans running for office as an advisor in foreign affairs. He contributed to the Nixon campaign, and when Nixon took office in 1969, Kissinger was appointed as National Security Advisor, and later Secretary of State. As a diplomat, Kissinger heavily used Realpolitik, the in-fashion Cold War approach focusing on pragmatism and realistic outcomes rather than ideological or moral purity. In international politics, it largely has to do with obtaining and maintaining power on the world stage.
Kissinger focused on relaxing US tensions with the USSR and China, leading an American foreign policy that supported Taiwan on the face but in the shadows removed all support for Taiwan and essentially waited for it to fall apart.
In 1974, he directed the National Security Study Memorandum 200: Implications of Worldwide Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests (NSSM200), sometimes called the "Kissinger Report" the official United States policy for many years, though it remained classified until the 1990s. The Kissinger Report advocated for population control in undeveloped nations to ensure easy resource extraction and protect American business interests abroad. Projects were designed to reduce fertility while keeping up the appearance of improving quality of life--the plan specifically attempted to avoid an appearance of "economic or racial imperialism". Birth rate was particularly noted due to concerns about an adequate global food supply and because young people more readily fight back against corruption and imperialism. The Report also brought up increasing abortion rates as a method of obtaining this goal.
In 1975, policies based on the Report went into affect. The National Security Council would recommend withholding food and using military force to prevent population growth, prioritizing aid for small families, and even paying people to get sterilized. Thirteen countries were named as particularly problematic to US interests. Of note, Nigeria lost development and the United States took control of Nigerian resources, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was responsible for some of the 300,000 forced sterilizations in Peru--largely impoverished or indigenous women--during the Fujimori administration. The Fujimori government has been accused of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court for these abuses, and today the Peruvian economy suffers due to the low population resulting from these sterilizations.
ACTIONS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
The Vietnam War had started back in 1955. Kissinger had originally supported it, but as time dragged on began to view it as harming American prestige. Kissinger leaked information about peace talks to get into power at Nixon's side, and then failed to end the war in 1972, leading to the Christmas bombings. A very similar agreement was signed the next month, leading to a ceasefire (that would collapse) and the withdrawal of American troops--bitterly seen as a betrayal by South Vietnam. When Kissinger and Vietnamese diplomat Lê Đức Thọ were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for this, Thọ declined to accept it and two members of the Nobel Committee left it in protest.
It was in the middle of the Vietnam War, and during the Cambodian Civil War, that Operation Menu and Operational Freedom Deal went into play. From March 1969 to May 1970, the United States Strategic Air Command carried out a series of first tactical and then carpet bombings in eastern Cambodia. Then, from May 1970 to August 1973, the United States provided close air support and widespread bombing. Part of a 'secret' war to support the Kingdom of Cambodia/Khmer Republic against communist rebels, it ultimately failed and the communists would take power in 1975.
In the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, Nixon and Kissinger supported the Pakistani president Yahya Khan. It was in this that the strongest dissent in the history of the U.S. Foreign Service, the Blood Telegram (named after sender Archer Blood), was sent. It reports the US was about to lose, describes systemic abuses, and uses the word 'genocide' to describe the actions by US-supported Pakistan. It said the US government was morally bankrupt. Blood was recalled early from Bangladesh, and US interests were lost when Bangladeshi Independence was secured within the year.
MIDDLE EASTERN POLICY
Kissinger was originally excluded from any policy-making on Israel, as part of Nixon's orders to exclude all Jewish-Americans from such work. Still, in 1973, when Kissinger became Secretary of State, he was included in all US Middle Eastern policy. This means he was largely responsible for the handling of the Yom Kippur War--this handling included not noticing precipitating factors leading up to it (he was so engrossed in Paris peace talks he didn't notice the Egyptian President Sadat ready to move on Sinai), delaying telling Nixon about and stalled negotiating a ceasefire, hoping Israel would push across and fully obtain the Suez Canal.
Kissinger's diplomacy included giving equipment to Israel, but not as much as he'd promised, and selling weapons to Saudi Arabia at the same time, in exchange for access to Saudi Arabian oil. By largely handling to event and not involving France or the United Kingdom, and by minimizing the power of the Soviet Union, Kissinger took large steps in giving US power over much of the Middle East.
It should be noted that this was done purely to protect US interests rather than any form of Jewish security. When questioned about the persecution of Soviet Jews at the same time, Kissinger said
"The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American foreign policy, and if they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern. Maybe a humanitarian concern."
-Henry Kissinger (1973)
Also in the region., Kissinger supported Iran against Iraq.
TURKISH INVASION OF CYPRUS
In 1974, the Greek military regime and Turkiye invaded the island of Cyprus. The military regime had been supported by Kissinger, and anti-Kissinger sentiment was strong among young people. Cyprus is now an independent island country, though its northeast portion is de facto separate, making up the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Kissinger considers his own handling of the Cyprus Issue unfavorably.
LATIN AMERICA
With Kissinger's influence, the United States maintained relations with non-left-wing governments regardless of commitment to democracy. It was with Kissinger's input that the CIA encouraged a military coup against Chilean president-elect Salvador Allende due to his socialist ideals.
Operation Condor, a US-backed program of political repression by right-wing dictatorships of southern South America, was also Kissinger's work. It included assassinations, the Dirty War in Argentina, and supporting Brazil's nuclear weapons program because it would benefit the U.S. private nuclear industry.
SOME OTHER STUFF
Kissinger's policy on post-WWII decolonization was mixed, based on what would benefit the U.S. He helped transition Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) away from White minority rule, expressed moderate support for the Portuguese Colonial Empire, and helped Indonesia occupy East Timor.
After Watergate forced Nixon to resign, Kissinger stayed on under President Ford but left office when Democrat Jimmy Carter came into power. He was offered an endowed chair at Columbia University, which was canceled due to student opposition, but was appointed to Georgetown University instead. He ran a consulting firm, supported the Chinese government in the Tiananmen Square massacre, and served on the 2000 Commission of the International Olympic Committee. He was supposed to help President Bush respond to the 9/11 attacks but stepped down because he refused to reveal if he had a business conflict of interest.
In 2010, he took a strong stance urging world governments to destroy all nuclear weapons. In the 2014 Ukrainian crisis, he said that Crimea should remain under Ukrainian sovereignty, but in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine said that Crimea and Donbas should be given to Russia.
Kissinger was a board member of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes' biotech scam.
In response to the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, and seeing pro-Palestinian protestors in Germany, Kissinger called Muslim immigration into Germany "a grave mistake".
DEATH
Kissinger died peacefully in his home in Connecticut on November 29th, 2023,

You & Me - Rhys Montrose x Reader - Part 1
Tumblr media
Masterlist | Part 2
Summary: What happens when reader assassin is tasked with killing the possible future mayor of London; Rhys Montrose. Politician by day, Eat the Rich Killer by night. But he isn’t the only person wearing different masks.
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Violence, murder, immoral sociopathic behaviour, mentions of alcoholism, drug abuse and neglect, (eventual) smut
Word count: 1.4k
A/N at the end.
Song: Royals – Lorde
Montrose, R.
The name of your next victim was written in elegant cursive handwriting on a small business card. Your employer had given it to you along with an envelope filled with your payment for the previous job you had just completed.
The name seemed familiar to you. You briefly glanced up at your employer as you slipped out your phone to quickly look up the name he had provided you with.
You typed in the name Montrose and within nanoseconds after you hit search, the app showed you thousands of hits on the name. Newspaper articles, clips of talk show appearances, book reviews, both positive and hate tweets (although the former outweighed the latter), and of course many, many pictures of the man. You recognised him instantly.
You raised a single eyebrow inquisitively, once more glancing at your employer.
“I’m aware that it’s high-profile.”
You scoffed as you scrolled through the many articles. “No shit, Sherlock.”
Your employer cleared his throat, shifting his weight. “Can you do it or not?”
“Of course,” you replied nonchalantly.
“Good.”
“But it’s gonna cost you.”
“I wouldn’t have expected anything else.”
You hummed, locking your phone and placing it in your back pocket. Your employer diverted his eyes, looking nervous? No — stressed — your mind supplied. You smirked inwardly. The man was desperate for this job.
You’ve done work for him before. Six times, in fact. Two of which had been abroad, including the one you just completed. Your flight back from Toronto had landed just a couple of hours ago. And now here you were once more.
The man had resources and was rich beyond words. He had power. Lots of it. Which incontrovertibly led to him having many enemies. Enemies that he needed to get rid of. Quietly. That’s where you came in.
But something was different this time. Your employer seemed off, more desperate than you’d ever seen him. Before he was always perfectly in control, never blinking an eye as he provided you with your next assignment or payment. The man was perhaps even more cold blooded than you. And that’s saying something. Nevertheless, he would never get his own hands dirty.
Your nostrils flared, having had enough of his stalling.
“Out with it, what is it?” You demanded.
Your employer glanced around before his gaze fixed on an old desk next to a broken window that had been boarded up. He kicked back a broken chair laying askew on the wood-rotten floor. He always preferred to meet in inconspicuous places. And if you might add, downright shitholes.
He sighed as he cautiously leaned back against the desk, looking back over his shoulder to make sure it would support his weight. He definitely wasn’t overweight. But you were certain that even the weight of a feather could make the desk collapse in on itself. Surprisingly, the desk remained standing after it gave a slight squeaky noise.
“I need it done within 48 hours.”
You couldn’t stop the bark of a laugh from escaping. The man had gone officially bloody nuts. Who the hell did he think he was? The king of England? In all honesty, he might actually wield more power than the king himself. But all of that was beside the point.
“48 hours,” you snickered, shaking your head at his ridicule.
“I know, I know,” he amended. “But I wouldn’t ask this of you if the situation hadn’t been this dire.”
“Dire or not, the man is currently number one trending on social media. He’s a beloved politician, likely preparing his campaign to become mayor of one of the biggest cities in the world. And you think I can make him disappear without a trace within 48 hours?”
“Yes,” your employer replied.
If the man and his ideas weren’t as delusional as the present situation would suggest, you would actually take quite a bit of pride in that simple statement.
“It’s not simply a matter of the public eye. He must have well established security. I need time to figure those details out as well as his schedule.”
You took a few steps closer, stopping a couple of feet away from your employer.
“I can get it done, but I need time.”
“I don’t have time,” he all but shouted at you as he got up angrily, his attitude changing rapidly. The man was known for his temper, but you hadn’t witnessed it yourself yet. His control was really severely lacking today.
“Which means you don’t have time,” he growled.
The space between you reduced to mere inches but you held your ground. You weren’t afraid of some rich businessman who wasn’t used to being told no.
You chuckled softly, making his eyes narrow to mere slits.
“See, the funny thing is. I don’t need to do a thing. I don’t have to accept your ridiculous job offer.”
A smirk grew on his face and he retreated a few steps. “Oh? But you haven’t heard the full offer yet.”
Now it was your turn to narrow your eyes. Truly, who the hell did he think he was, playing with you like this? You briefly contemplated killing him on the spot, but really you couldn’t be bothered.
“I am offering you three times your regular fee.”
Now this — this — made you stop right in your tracks. Yep, it was confirmed. The man was definitely delusional.
It may have been a cheap trick. Typically the rich social elite — buying their way through life. But damned be all if it wasn’t effective.
Your employer knew nothing about you, except how to contact you. To give you the time and place for your clandestine meetings. Which means he also didn’t know anything about your personal life and your financial situation. In your line of work, you liked to keep it that way.
Truth is, you weren’t poor and you weren’t rich. But you needed the money your unorthodox job provided you with. It wasn’t about becoming rich yourself. It wasn’t about gaining status or anything like that. No, the money went straight to your sisters.
You had two younger sisters who still lived with your mother, a raging and highly unstable alcoholic. You often debated whether to take full custody of your sisters and have them live with you, but you also knew your job came with certain risks and you didn’t want to jeopardise their safety.
You tried to take as much care of them as you could from the sidelines. Especially since no one else fought for them. Definitely not your father because he had left years ago, claiming he could no longer cope with your mother’s issues. Hell, like you all could?
Your youngest sister, Sadie, had fallen ill two years ago. Mainstream medicine had failed her, so you were now paying for her exclusive medical trials. The good thing was, they were working. Your sister’s health was improving, but she was still nowhere near healthy and being fully cleared by the doctors. She probably never would be as she suffered a rare chronic disease.
But she was going to school again now. A private school to be exact, same as your other sister, Zoe, who was currently acing her first year at the prestigious Darcy College. You were so proud of both of them, but with the medical bills and their education, you needed the money.
Which is why your employer’s offer made both your skin crawl but also your heart clench. You needed it. Maybe just as much as he needed this Montrose guy killed.
You glanced down at your left hand, your sisters’ initials that you had tattooed on your wrist serving as a powerful reminder of what you inevitably had to agree to. A possible suicide mission. Because how were you going to pull this high-profile kill off without being able to actually device a plan in advance? Without getting caught.
And yet you found yourself accepting his offer.
“Okay.”
Your employer didn’t look surprised, seemingly confident that money could indeed buy anything. Or anyone. He had been completely oblivious to your inner turmoil. Probably because of your very well practiced poker face that you never let slip.
“I will do it,” you said. “On one condition.”
“What?”
“Like I said earlier, this is gonna cost you. Not just three, I want five times my regular fee. Take it or leave it.”
He seemed exceptionally pleased with himself as an unsettling smile creeped onto his face.
“You have a deal.”
Fuck the rich, you thought as you bitterly shook his hand.
––––
A/N: sooo this is the first (kinda short, introductory) part of this Rhys x reader fic. The next parts will be longer, don’t worry! Although I’m very busy with work, I will try to stick to my regular posting schedule (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) as much as I can. Know that the next few parts have already been drafted and are almost ready to be published :) And boy, it’s going to be a ride. Thank you for reading!!!!

The photographer Paolo Di Paolo, who has died aged 98, documented the renaissance of Italy following the dark days of the second world war, capturing that country’s 1950s and 60s glamour. His star shone brightly for 15 years before he turned his back on photography, but in that time he recorded the luminosity of cultural figures such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Gina Lollobrigida and Tennessee Williams, as well as the optimism and dignity of ordinary people.
His pictures captured the shift from a more innocent, rural life, in a style that mirrored the neorealism movement in Italian film, as embodied in the shot of three boys on a bucolic hill looking towards the sprawl of Rome. His keen eye recorded the societal tension between the haves and have-nots, but his humanist approach highlighted the elegance of every person, regardless of circumstance. He said: “You might not know the subject but you understand the situation. In every image there is a story to tell … that is my law.”
Di Paolo started out as a self-taught amateur, taking photographs for pleasure with a considered approach. “Each shot had to be a good one. If the situation was not as I had in my mind, I wouldn’t take the picture.”
In 1954, he took his photos to Mario Pannunzio, the editor of the influential weekly current affairs magazine Il Mondo. Pannunzio recognised Di Paolo’s talent, and the photographer found his spiritual home.
He earned money working for other publications, notably Tempo, who sent him on assignment abroad. However, it was on home soil, on the self-titled 1959 assignment for Successo magazine, The Long Road of Sand, that Di Paolo produced some of his finest reportage. He embarked on a road trip along the coast in his Arnolt MG, with the author and poet Pasolini in the passenger seat, documenting Italians on vacation at the dawn of a new era. Di Paolo said: “I was looking for an Italy that looked to the future.”
His intelligence, empathy and discretion garnered trust and allowed him to take many candid portraits of major cultural figures including Sophia Loren applying makeup, Marcello Mastroianni sipping coffee and Kim Novak ironing. He formed a strong bond with the enigmatic actor Anna Magnani and his portraits of her with her son capture, and are captured by, intimacy.
Paolo was born into a poor family in the village of Larino, in Molise. His father, Michele Di Paolo, ran a small shop that sold tobacco and salt and his mother, Michelina (nee Lallo), was a smallholder and a skilled painter and embroiderer. He had five step-siblings from his father’s two previous marriages.
He attended the village school then moved to Rome to complete the final year of his studies at Liceo Classico Augusto, before returning to Larino. During the war he served in the Granatieri (Grenadiers) near his home, but did not see action. Afterwards he began writing for local newspapers, but he wanted more from life.
In 1949, at the age of 24, he left home to study history and philosophy at La Sapienza University of Rome. He intended to return to Larino to become a teacher there, but fell in with a group of young artists that was a hotbed of ideas and creativity, and realised he needed to explore a different path.
He had been making ends meet working at a tourism magazine, and was on his way to their offices in 1953 when he saw and fell in love with a Leica IIIc camera in the window of a nearby opticians. He had found the means with which to express himself.
He resigned from his job and used his severance money to buy the camera. Abandoning his studies shortly before graduation, he threw himself into the new humanist movement in photography. “The strength and enthusiasm that motivated us young people was overwhelming: our happiness was intoxicating.”
However in 1966, with the rise of television and the dawn of salacious celebrity culture, Il Mondo closed. Di Paolo was devastated. He wrote a telegram to Pannunzio: “ Today … the ambition to be a photographer has died.”
The following year Di Paolo photographed the Valentino haute couture show, but he was becoming increasingly disillusioned. In 1968 he went to see a photo editor who wanted him to exploit his society contacts, to get “some spice”.
Di Paolo’s strong ethical sense clashed with this new aggressive style and he refused to be associated with the paparazzi. At the peak of his powers, he hung up his camera and shut away his 250,000 negatives, prints and slides.
He moved to the countryside outside Rome, taking a job as an art director for the carabinieri (Italy’s regional police). Over the next 40 years he produced books, which included his photos of the cadets’ lives, and calendars, for the force. In 1973, he married Elena Marcelli, his former assistant, and they had two children, Michele and Silvia. He lived a quiet life and indulged his passions for winemaking, dogs and vintage cars.
In 1997, Silvia was hunting for a pair of skis in the cellar of her parents’ home when she was shocked to discover his photographic archive. She had no idea her father had been a photographer. She asked him about his work but he was reluctant to speak about it. It would take years of cajoling before he allowed Silvia to bring his work back to life.
Finally, recognition flowed. His first exhibition, Il Mio Mondo, was held at the gallery il museo del louvre in Rome, in 2016. Three years later, the MAXXI museum in the city staged a major retrospective, Mondo Perduto, with an accompanying monograph that is the only collection of his work to date.
Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of Valentino, saw the MAXXI exhibition and, inspired by Di Paolo’s 1967 Valentino pictures, invited the then 94-year-old to photograph behind the scenes at the fashion house’s 2020 spring/summer couture show in Paris.
A documentary about Di Paolo’s life and work, The Treasure of His Youth, by the fashion photographer Bruce Weber, premiered at the Rome film festival in 2021 and is due for release in the UK next year. In May, to coincide with his 98th birthday, Di Paolo was awarded an honorary degree from La Sapienza.
He is survived by Elena, his children and two grandchildren, Matilde and Leonardo.

Iranian attack drone is shot down over Ukraine
The first evidence came to the light of a wandering Iranian ammunition, or 'Kamikaze' drone, used by Russia in its war in Ukraine.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/14/2022 - 08:39in Military, UAV - UAV, War Zones
An Iranian fighter UAV Shahed-136 was shot down on Ukraine, giving credibility to American claims that Iran is supplying drones to Russia.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense posted an image of the Iranian-made drone destroyed in the city of Kupiansk, Kharkiv Oblast, on September 13. The remains of the device show inscriptions in Cyrillic - ? 214 Geran-2, showing the apparent remains of what looks a lot like an Iranian wandering ammunition Shahed-136, or 'suicide' drone, allegedly found in eastern Ukraine.
Tumblr media
The analysis of the wing elements suggests that the aircraft could be the Shahed-136 kamikaze UAV, which, according to reports, has a range of about 2,000 km.
"The analysis of the appearance of the elements of the drone's wing allows us to state with confidence that the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed an Iranian UAV for the first time," the statement adds.
Tumblr media
At the end of 2021, Tehran demonstrated the possibility of launching multiple of these idle ammunition from a launcher disguised as a cargo wagon container.

The commander of the Islamic Revolution of Iran (IRGC) Guard Corps, Major General Hussein Salami, recently confirmed that the country has sold homemade weapons to foreign customers, "including some of the world's major powers". He did not mention which countries bought Iranian military equipment and the type of weapons sold.
The U.S. believes that Russia is deploying drones manufactured by Iran against Ukraine. In July, U.S. President Jake Sullivan's national security adviser stated that Iran was allegedly preparing to supply Moscow with several hundred UAVs, including attack UAVs, in an accelerated manner.
Tumblr media
"We have information that indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to deliver to Russia several hundred UAVs, including attack UAVs, in an accelerated way," Sullivan noted.
Iran produced several drones, including Mohajer-6, Shahed-129 and Shahed-191, some of which were used ?? to attack U.S. military bases and its allies in the Middle East, oil refineries and other facilities. They were seen in military conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.
Tumblr media
According to the Flightradar flight tracking portal, at least three flights of large cargo planes from Iran to Russia have been seen in recent weeks.
U.S. government sources told CNN in August that intelligence about the training was recently disqualified. "In recent weeks, Russian authorities have been conducting training in Iran as part of the agreement on the transfer of UAVs from Iran to Russia," the newspaper reported, citing an American official familiar with the situation.

Is it difficult or easy to pass the IELTS exam?
For several students studying abroad, passing the IELTS exam is the most difficult component. Students have queries such as, "Is IELTS difficult?" Is IELTS difficult for Indian students? But is IELTS truly that difficult, or is the mania around the exam exaggerating its difficulty?
Those who are nervous before taking the IELTS can read this page to understand how to overcome their nervousness. In this blog post, we will also discuss what you may do to better prepare for the IELTS exam.
It is very important to enroll at the best institute where you can clear all your doubts related to any topic in any session such as Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Here Dream ‘n Destination will be the perfect choice for you to choose. We provide the Best IELTS Classes in Jalandhar at an affordable price.
How difficult is the IELTS exam?
IELTS is a renowned English language proficiency exam that evaluates your abilities in all elements of determining the candidate's language competency. It evaluates a candidate's abilities to read, write, listen, and talk. The exam is created so that anybody, regardless of background, can attempt it under the same conditions. The kind of questions covered, the methods used to correct the test, and the length and format of each section of the exam are all standardized.
If one arrives unprepared, any exam will be difficult. Preparing for the IELTS exam entails focusing on many aspects of the English language. The difficulty degree of expertise might vary from person to person.
Some people find it difficult to listen, while others struggle to read. Similarly, some applicants find writing to be the most difficult task. So, you may study for the exam while focusing on your weak areas. Knowing all of the components of the IELTS exam might be a proper practice before beginning preparation.
Tumblr media
In the Reading part, within the one-hour time constraint, one must read about 2,000 words and answer 40 questions. So, unless you master English terminology, you may have difficulty scanning and skimming the content. Reading periodicals, newspapers, and novels may help you enhance your English vocabulary and reading and skimming abilities.
Tumblr media
In the Writing section, the exam taker must complete two writing exercises. Candidates may work hard to write answers to each assignment within the time limit. In addition, each activity requires a minimum quantity of words. One hour is divided into two tasks, one lasting 20 minutes and the other lasting 40 minutes.
Tumblr media
The Listening section requires the test taker to pay close attention to the speaker. Many applicants consider it one of the most challenging extents of the IELTS exam. To do well on this test, you must practice thoroughly. To prepare for this, you should watch English movies or TV shows and use IELTS Listening practice materials.
Tumblr media
Many test takers can have trouble with the Speaking portion because they do not converse in English regularly, although it appears to be easier for those who do. Aside from that, one only needs to answer questions and talk about the issue. To score well, one must focus solely on the issue at hand and avoid deviating from it.
It is not disgraceful to acknowledge that you need to take the IELTS more than once. Accepting the problem is the first step towards fixing it. When you understand your weakness, you are better equipped to overcome it.
So, understanding your shortcomings will be the first and most important step, and working on them will be the final answer. Whether it's speaking or grammar, just identify the areas where you need to improve before retaking the exam. Consider the benefits that you will receive if you achieve a strong IELTS score.
A solid IELTS band would undoubtedly be beneficial in not just gaining admission to your preferred university, but also in advancing your career.
Conclusion
Do you want to get a 7 or higher on the IELTS? Enroll at Dream 'n Destination the Best IELTS Classes in Jalandhar an assured score increase. IELTS lets you move, work, and study in English-speaking nations such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
A high IELTS score might help you stand out among other applicants. Contact us for IELTS Coaching in Jalandhar to begin your journey from the comfort of your own home online. When was the last time you fell?: Couple of weeks ago when I slipped in the bathroom and damn near knocked my head straight to the ground. Literal millimeters away from a bad concussion; and it would’ve left me shaken up for the rest of the morning and given me an existential crisis if I didn’t just have to immediately get back to work lol.
What’s the last flavor of ice cream you had?: I had the cookies and cream variant of the Magnum ice cream.
Do you know a Stephen?: Nope, nobody comes to mind.
Green or Purple?: Purple.
Are you currently mad at anyone?: I’m feeling a bit resentful towards a certain person, but not mad.
Do you own any sundresses?: Yeah, I have a lot of them because I used to have a sundress phase back in high school and college. I’ve mostly grown out of it now, but I still keep the dresses around if in case I need to wear something lightweight and comfy.
Have you done any deep cleaning recently?: No.
Have you ever cooked a meal for a large group of people? I was about to say no until I remembered that one of our major projects in home economics when I was in high school was to come up with a food business and serve the entire high school body for a day. Thinking about it now, it’s an insane assignment that should technically be illegal lol – but in any case, we had to do that and I remember our group coming up with a burger business. We had something else too...chicken tenders I think it was? We had to make hundreds of each dish and overall it went well, but again thinking about it now I’m just glad we never heard of any health issues from the students who bought from us.
Do you like reading peoples survey answers?: Sure!
Do you check your email daily?: My work email I obviously check every weekday since that’s part of my routine – but I keep it off-limits on weekends because boundaries; as for my personal email, I check it probably once a week.
Have you ever used a whole tube of chapstick or do you usually lose it before doing so?: I don’t use lip balm.
When did you last wash your hands?: Around an hour ago after using the washroom.
Do you enjoy being outside in the rain?: I love the rain, but I don’t like being stuck in it – like I hate having to drive while it’s pouring hard. It’s only calming to me when I happen to be safe indoors.
What are some lyrics to the last song you listened to?: "On a day you hate being yourself, on a day you want to disappear forever, let’s build a door in your mind. Once you open the door and enter, this place will wait for you, it’s okay to believe the magic shop that will comfort you.”
Do you ever read the newspaper or get all your news online or television? Online. It was never a habit of mine to read the newspaper.
Have you ever watched a meteor shower?: No, they are never visible here.
Does the number 8 have any significance to you? No, it doesn’t.
Who has the best hair that you know?: A person I work with has naturally curvy hair that I find really pretty.
Have you ever been to an aquarium?: Yeah, I’ve been to the one in Manila. I'm 100% sure I’ve also gone to an aquarium abroad, but I can’t remember which country it was.
Are you currently happy?: Yeah, I’m generally a happy person as long as you take out the work aspect of my life. I can’t wait to get that shit all sorted out, lmao.
What’s a reason for your happiness?: Self-love and contentment is a big part of it.
Is there a light on in the room you’re in?: Yes.
Do you know anyone that has a birthday today?: Yeah, it’s Kaye’s birthday today! She was supposed to host a birthday dinner this weekend and invited me to it, but last Thursday she told me she was going to hold it off for now since med school got a bit too hectic. Anyway, I’m just waiting for the rescheduled date but I’m definitely going to be there; I’ve really appreciated how she’s seemingly come out of nowhere to be closer with me the past few months and I’d love to be able to celebrate her day with her.
Have you ever been to a car show? I don’t think so. I’m trying to remember if my dad has brought me to one in the past, but my memory is coming up blank so it’s most likely a no. Do you like grocery shopping?: Sure. It can be tempting to put a bunch of snacks in the cart though haha but otherwise I find the experience pretty calming.
Have you ever been in a play?: We held school productions every year and participating in them was mandatory, so yup. I’ve never been in a play voluntarily though – I’m not a theatre person.
Can you see a mirror from where you’re at?: Nopes.
Do you have a large or small backyard?: I’d say it’s somewhere in the middle. It doesn’t like, lead to a forest or anything like that lmao but it’s also definitely not cramped. We’ve hosted parties there a few times that comfortably fit a good number of people.
Do you like blueberries? I like some blueberry-flavored things, but not the fruit.
What’s your favorite flavored water?: I don’t like flavored water.
If given opportunity, would you go to outer space?: Continued from last Sunday. Yes, I would. I don’t think the astronaut in me ever died out.
Do you own a record player?: Nah. It’s been part of my wishlist forever, but I just never get around to getting one. I have nowhere to place it in my room anyway so I’m not too bothered.
Has religion ever come between you and somebody?: Yeah. I remember when my ex had some sort of epiphany about religion and suddenly gave God a chance, and that definitely led to a bit of a fallout between us. If I remember correctly it got resolved when we agreed to just never raise the topic of religion and to let each other discover and explore our spirituality on our own – which honestly should’ve already been a blaring red flag.
When did you last have an important conversation with someone?: A few nights ago.
Does caffeine cause you to get shaky? When I’ve had one too many cups. I’m used to drinking 2 full cups at most, and last Sunday when I had 3 it already made my body start freaking out lol. Head was ringing, stomach kept doing somersaults, I took too many trips to the toilet, the whole shebang. Not pleasant at all.
Is there a scar on your body that you can’t explain? No. I know where each of them came from.
Have you ever accidentally shut your finger up in a door?: Fortunately, no.
What would you say that most people know you for?: Never shutting up about BTS.
What’s your favorite kind of juice?: Idk, let’s just go with orange since I’m most likely to take a sip of that.
Do you have any stuffed animals?: Does Tata count as a stuffed animal? Hahaha I have two. What are you up to today?: I mean it’s 11:43 PM, so all there is left for me to do really is to wrap this survey up and start preparing to turn in.
Do you wear hats often?: Yeah, I wear bucket hats like 8 out of 10 times I’m outdoors.
Do you have any nieces or nephews? Not yet. Waiting for my friends and cousins to give me ‘em ;) Hahaha.
Do you own a religious book?: No.
Have you ever owned a wreck it journal?: Nah. As a teen, unsurprisingly, I really wanted to collect them – but I think even younger me subconsciously knew that I had no creativity to show for those journals, so I never actually ended up buying any versions of it.
What did you last purchase?: A bunch of party stuff for the BTS Busan concert this Saturday. Y’ALL I got a bunch of purple balloons, a purple set and a rainbow set of streamers, and this giant-ass gold ‘7′ balloon lol it’s crazy. I’m ready for this week to end because the first thing I’ll most definitely be doing is to dress the living room up.
What was a celebrity you liked as a kid?: Beyoncé. Still do.
What did you last eat that was spicy?: Ramyeon.
Have you ever had tofu?: Yes, love tofu.
Would you or have you ever held a snake?: I wouldn’t own one as a pet, but I have held snakes before.
Do you peel your apples before eating them?: I just don’t eat apples, period.
Do you season your food a lot?: I don’t cook, but I mean yeah I definitely prefer my food with lots of seasoning because that’s what helps food be more delicious. If I find something a bit bland, Knorr seasoning always helps.
Do you ever light incense? No. I never encounter incense anywhere unless I’m at church and they bring out that contraption thingy that releases the incense smoke.
Is there anything you’d like to say to someone?: Sorry I’ve been a shitty replier, I haven’t been up to talking the past few days but I’ll get back to you soon.
What are you currently wearing?: A white t-shirt with the print of a past viral tweet, and a pair of shorts.
Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night just to talk to someone?: Grossly enough, yup.
What was the last social event you went to?: A PR event for one of the brands I handle.
Do you use the word “like” excessively? When spoken, yeah pretty often.
What are your thoughts on horse races? I don’t see the appeal.
Do you watch The Simpsons or any other cartoons?: Nope, not really big on cartoon series.
Do you find tattoos attractive?: Not as much as when I was younger.
If you have a car, does it have a name? My parents have given it a name but I never use it haha. I just refer to it by its model name - Mirage.
Why did you last see a doctor?: Haven’t been to the doctor since my UTI diagnosis two years ago. I did go to the dentist a couple of months ago to get a wisdom tooth extracted.
Do you get light headed after getting blood drawn?: I’ve never gotten my blood drawn and don’t think I will ever be up for it, lol.
What did you first think of this morning?: I thought of how loud Cooper was barking, then immediately fell back asleep.
When did you last cry?: LOL earlier watching this emotional video that one of my accounts will be releasing this weekend on their social media.
What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen today?: Run BTS flying yoga episode hahahahaha
Have you ever been snorkeling? Sure!
Are you clumsy? Continued ages later; holy shit is this survey long lol. Yeah. I’m not as clumsy as I used to be, but I will sometimes still knock cups of water over, trip over air, lose my balance, accidentally slam doors, etc.
Do you prefer satin, cotton, or flannel sheets?: Cotton.
What’s your favorite kind of jam/jelly?: Guava, since that’s the one I’m most familiar with. I’m generally not a fan of jam.
What’s on your bedside table currently?: I have my lamp, earphones, company ID, a couple of ballpens, and ointment.
What’s the best compliment you’ve received recently?: Angela was telling me how this new top I bought suits me really well.
What’s some things you always make sure to pack before going on a trip?: My phone and laptop (and their chargers) and underwear are pretty much my only must-haves. Everything else, I wouldn’t be too bothered if I realize I’ve forgotten to bring them with me.
What’s one of your strengths?: Looking after people.
Have you ever spent more than $100 on a pair of shoes?: Yup.
Would you say you’re an impulsive person? A lot less than I used to be, but yeah I still have my tendencies sometimes.
What have you last been diagnosed with?: UTI, but this was forever ago.
What’s something that makes you quirky?: Idk, maybe some of my habits when it comes to food. Admittedly I’m pickier than I think I am, like the way I absolutely have to peel the skin off fried chicken so I can save it for last, or the way I have a particular ‘trail’ I follow when eating a burger haha.
What types of cheese do you consume the most?: I’d say mozzarella.
Do you purchase extended warranties on your electronics? No.
What was the last restaurant you ate at? I don’t remember the name of the place but it was this wings place in BGC right after we had a pitch. It was the only spot that didn’t have a waiting list and we needed to have lunch immediately so we could go back to work, so we ended up there. It was good! I had this unique dish of theirs that was basically a love child of boneless chicken and pizza lol.
What was the last sweet beverage you had?: Caramel macchiato, last night.
Do you believe in psychic ability? I do not.
Have you ever won any carnival games before?: Not that I can recall.
What was the last fun thing you did?: Watching the BTS Busan concert! Yesterday was PERFECT. I had my place completely dressed up with a ridiculous amount of balloons, and I had these cute and colorful streamers on the walls too and even a giant purple ‘7’ balloon. Six friends came over and it was basically a screaming and singing fest for the whole 1.5 hour show, and it was just so so so so so SO much fun; I was so giddy the entire time and still am haha.
Do you wear glasses?: I do.
What song did you last have on repeat?: Run BTS.
When did you last have pizza delivered?: Yesterday;  it was one of the things I had delivered for our watch party.
What do you normally pay for your hair cuts?: Trims are usually just P100 where I live.
What’s your favorite decoration in your place of residence?: The coffee table we have in the living room - because my late grandpa made it.
How many computers/laptops are in the building you’re in?: Three.
Have you ever been to a rodeo?: Nope.
What frosting goes best on cake?: Chocolate or cream cheese.
How long does it take you to get ready? 15-30 minutes, depending on how indecisive I am on my outfit for the day.
Do you do some form of exercise daily?: No.
Have you ever won a big prize for something?: I’ve won the bigger prizes in a couple of raffles.
Do you think it’s true that good things come to those who wait?: Yeah, but I am also in the belief that you have to actively work hard for those good things to actually be closer to you.
Do you show your feelings?: Sometimes, but I feel like I am more reserved these days. I only show my frustrations and whatnot to people I’m really close to and comfortable with.
Have you ever held a chicken?: I don’t think I have.
Would you rather feel too much or nothing at all?: Too much.
Are you hard to please?: Nopes.
What is today’s date?: October 16.

Below I post my translation of an interview with Valery Legasov, originally published in the Izvestia newspaper in 1987.
Science does not tolerate loneliness
He is known not only in our country. According to the results of the traditional contest "Person of the Year" held in the West, Valery Legasov entered the top ten most famous, outstanding personalities, in the category of those people who were in the center of attention of the world community. Of course, the Chernobyl tragedy played a special role here, because Academician Legasov took an active part in eliminating its consequences.
Our correspondent met with the laureate of the State and Lenin Prizes, the first deputy director of the I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, academician V. LEGASOV.
- Who are you by profession - a reactor engineer, power engineer, physicist, chemist? After all, your interests extend to different fields of science.
No, I'm not a reactor engineer, I work in the field of technologies that provide nuclear reactors. The reactors themselves are not part of my responsibilities. By profession - a physical chemist, I graduated from the Mendeleev Institute, Faculty of physico-chemical Engineering, - it was once created by Igor Vasilyevich Kurchatov. They trained specialists who could separate isotopes, work with radioactive substances, and know the intricacies of nuclear processes.
- What goals did you set for yourself when you decided to do science, or did you not have specific goals, did you not think about it?
- Almost all students, graduating from our faculty, knew that they would go to work in research institutes. We were being prepared for scientific activity. In future scientific work, we imagined life not only as the development of previously achieved. All our thoughts were occupied with one thing - we must definitely set the bar higher, at least one step higher than what was previously mastered. That’s how we were raised. This was our banner. I follow the fate of my comrades: they work in different places, some in science, some in production ... We stay true to our thoughts.
Now I am the head of the Department of Molecular Physics at the Kurchatov Institute. By the way, it was here that I came to do my thesis as a student. And a few years later, I returned as a graduate student.
- After the Chernobyl events, we tried to contact you more than once. It was almost impossible. How long did you stay at the accident site in total?
- I arrived at the NPP already on April 26 in the evening. The main work on the localization of the accident has begun. By May 6, the situation was more or less clear. The main decisions have been made. Then, as needed, I came to the plant not just once. In short, I was splitting time between two homes. How much in total? You know, I didn't count. A lot of…
- What exactly did you do in Chernobyl? What are your reflections on what happened?
- The NPP needed specialists who knew nuclear processes well. I didn't do anything heroic there. All actions were collective. All the suggestions made had to be scientifically justified in order to prevent wrong decisions ... And there is a part of my work in what has been done. But - only a part.
Now about the reflections. I was prepared for serious accidents. A few years ago, I was assigned to head the group of the so-called general industrial safety in the GKNT (State Committee on Science and Technology) of the USSR. Due to my professional interests, I was engaged in the problem of potential dangers from various types of energy. We considered the technological system as a whole, identified the most vulnerable parts. It was concluded that serious industrial accidents are brewing all over the world, a qualitatively new situation has arisen – the capacities concentrated on one site have sharply increased, often given "into the hands" of one operator. The events in our country and abroad have shown that the fears were not in vain. But for me it was a complete surprise: the accident occurred where, in general, it was least expected – at the nuclear power plant. It seemed unlikely. Let's remember: how many wrong actions had to be consistently committed in order for this to happen.
A man, armed with powerful technical means, has just begun to think about how to protect himself from them. Now we need to fight not against something that has already exploded or will explode unexpectedly tomorrow. It is necessary to realize once and for all: we need to fight for the creation of protective technologies adequate to the power that is given to a person. This is a problem common to the whole world. I am for respect for ergonomics - for the correct, reasonable construction of relations in the "man-machine" system. Chernobyl teaches this.
- What ways do you think the development of nuclear technologies will go further?
- Let's remember: every source of energy brought revolutionary changes. People have mastered the secret of fire to keep warm, to protect themselves from the vagaries of nature. But fire, having appeared as a solution to an energy problem or something like that, then gave technologies for the production of iron and copper. Man replaced wood with coal - this caused an industrial revolution: steam engines, steam locomotives, steamships appeared... Then oil - it "gave birth" to automobiles, aviation, rocket technology. This is how humanity developed. At first, it was looking for some kind of energy source in the name of purely energy tasks, and all this led to a radical change in technology. I think that nuclear energy will definitely open up a new quality to a man.
- What do you consider the most important thing in scientific work, what principles do you follow?
- Probably, it is still important to start properly. I don't know if this can be called a principle. But I believe that starting positions in science, as well as in life, are the most important. It is no coincidence that psychologists and other specialists believe that the first four years after birth are very important for the development of a child. In which area they will bring up an interest, will they guess or not guess the inclinations, will they let him listen to music if he is musical, will they give him a pencil if he has the propensity to draw. So in science, the main positions are the starting ones. Unfortunately, sometimes a lot of things in science begin arbitrarily – it comes from the device (because it exists), from some formal plan, from blind copying of the experience of the predecessor, the traditions of the institute… And only then they begin to figure out whether it was necessary to do this?
- It is believed that only 1-5 percent of scientists are generators of ideas, the rest are defenders of established dogmas in science. How do you feel about such arithmetic? What thoughts do you have about this situation in science?
- I didn't count the percentages. I don't even know how it can be calculated? Although I am familiar with such assessments. My point of view is that science is still a relay race, the passing of the baton. I know a lot of people who could be classified as idea generators. If you want, the idea generator is the last person who tore the finishing tape with his chest. And before him, there were always several people passing the baton. Here’s the situation (I experienced it myself!): a colleague comes to me and says - read this article in this magazine. That's it, he's gone. The article pushes me to some considerations, I express them, and someone puts an experiment. And then - success! And it turns out: someone manages to formulate a "finishing" idea according to the nature of his character, thinking. The relay race? Of course, it is... Yes, I agree, the finisher must have certain abilities, his head (prepared) can formulate a new idea. But science is a collective matter. There could not be a single brilliant composer without those who understand his music, without those who write it themselves. The professional environment feeds the most capable people. They’re not born in isolation. Science does not tolerate loneliness.
- Are you satisfied with the current system of organizing scientific research? Could you share your thoughts?
- Remember the joking expression about how to make a sculpture? Take a stone and cut off the excess. It seems to me that the same thing should be done in science today. The potential of our science is very rich. Why is it not always implemented? Because the necessary and unnecessary are next to each other. What do I mean by that? First of all, formalized relationships. Here, I sign with my own hand, probably, tens of thousands of papers a year that are related to science and have nothing to do with it - justifications, tasks, plans, plans-forecasts and so on, so on… This feeds a huge army of people – they do not just feed, they parasitize! Bureaucracy is deadly for science.
Excessive hierarchy has always been contraindicated for science, it stifles it. Science, like art, does not tolerate intermediate links. It is necessary to get rid of people who interfere with work. Scribbling and formalism have reached such a scale that it is already difficult for science to bear this cross.
And one more thing. Every natural scientist should be very well educated in the humanities. I am deeply convinced of this. Otherwise, a real scientist unwittingly limits his capabilities. Great "technicians» have always stood on the shoulders of our great humanitarians. This is how it should be. But in modern science, this balance is broken. It's dangerous.
- Which of your scientific works do you consider the most successful?
- Apparently, those that have brought the greatest benefit. For example, it was possible to synthesize unusual compounds that did not exist before. They have proved to be very useful in nuclear technologies. I am happy that these studies have been recognized by the scientific community. I was very lucky in the sense that the search results were quickly applied in practice.
- What scientific problems are you currently engaged in or would you like to deal with in the near future?
- I continue to work in my field: the creation of new substances, materials, methods of their production and application. I now consider myself absolutely obliged (after Chernobyl) to deal with the issues of chemical diagnostics. What is it? We want to create sensitive elements that can detect the smallest gas emissions from metals and other materials… These will be early warning sensors. Each construction lives according to its own laws. Something is constantly happening in it, the state of the material is changing. The sensor is designed to keep track of changes and warn about the danger on time.
- Are you interested in what is happening in other branches of knowledge?
- Absolutely. We must not lose the connections between the cells of a single organism. I’d even specially educate people who can and are able to "transfer" information from one area to another. This is a very important question.
- What do you think, in what field of science are we waiting for qualitatively new discoveries?
- My answer will probably be amateurish. You know, it's always easier to expect something outstanding in a field that… you don't know. I think more complex materials, processes, and technologies will appear. They will be based on biologically active components. But this is not bionics, not biotechnology, but something brand new, living not according to the laws of physics and chemistry, but biology, capable of exchanging information, restructuring, possessing memory…I dare to think that there will be a technique that works on the principles of biosystems.
- You have many students. At Moscow State University, you even organized "your" special group. How do you want to see them?
- I want them to understand, to realize the main thing - their purpose. Once a person was born, whom the world did not yet know, he must definitely leave behind something that did not exist before him - let it be a comma, a little dot, but his own!
