Saint Seiya, the Asgard Saga

The Asgard SAGA was an original story created for the Saint Seiya Anime to fill in the time between the Sanctuary and Poseidon sagas of the manga, the idea was to stall for time until Kurumada could finish the Poseidon saga in the manga.

An fill in they did.

The spirit and success of saint seiya rests solely within two things: the initial galactic tournament saga and the eventual sactuay saga and I have to say that the anime version of these events is vastly superior to what is in the manga. What I believe finally happened with Asgard is that the animation studio people were more fans of saint seiya than any one else at the time and truly understood the themes behind it. Thus creating one of the most compelling sagas in the anime, probably only behind to the battle of the sanctuary itself in terms of story ideas, drama and animation. This is evident since these are the sme people involved in the creation of "Legend of the Scarlet Youth" (Seinto Seiya Shinku no Shōnen Densetsu), a movie that distills and brings to the fore everything that is good about Saint Seiya in only 75 minutes.

The themes, story beats, character ideas and conflict present in Asgard are what makes Saint Seiya great, each battle and encounter is not just a physical battle but a process of remembering and healing trauma for what are basically kids.

Talking about the kids, contrary to the previous saga, the enemies here are equals to the saints. They are basically what seiya and friends would be if they were fighting for another pantheon, they even have their own "saori" in the form of Hilda being the representation of divinity they fight to protect. And that is key, these kids are not megalomaniac idiots like most of the sanctuary folks, they are loyal servants to their "goddess" and are willing to die for her.

Additionally they are also equal in power to seiya and friends, none of them are at Gold Saint power levels (except for maybe Dubhe Sigfried and perhaps Mizar Syd/AlcorBud). The battles are hard fought with neither side the clear winner until the end.

All these things make this saga incredible and unfortunately superior to the following Poseidon Saga. And this is were the saint seiya anime ran into trouble, all these great things are somehow non-existing or greatly dinished in the Poseidon Saga.

If you read the manga the poseidon saga is the first introduction to two concepts that were somehow new:

More than one incarnate god was walking the earth at the same time as Athena/Saori.

Other beings similar in power to the saints also existed, not only that but they could rival the gold saints in power too.

Well, the asgard Saga kinda spoils this, since you get both things (Hilda is not a goddes, she is Odin´s messenger but is close enough) and some of the fights against the Warrior Gods present a better treath than some of the battle with Poseidon's Sea Generals

Saintia Shõ - La secuela de las Doce Casas

Ya pasó la primer saga de las nuevas Saintia de Saint Seiya (Los Caballeros del Zodiaco). En este caso veremos la historia de Shõko, una joven estudiante de secundaria, que se separó de su hermana Kyõko, quién fue al extranjero para estudiar en la Fundación Graad. Hasta que un dia, una Driade ataca a Shõko para utilizar su cuerpo como recipiente para la diosa Eris, así aparecen las Santias en acción...

A comparación de las sagas anteriores de Saint Seiya, Saintia Shõ, es la más corta de todas las temporadas, en la historia de los Santos de Athena. Con un inicio muy prometedor (en donde podemos ver claramente que hay más de un personaje principal), las Saintia recorren una aventura, buena; a comparación de otras anteriores, la historia es muy básica y con muchos altibajos.

Al compararla con historias como la de Autoría, en Soul of Gold (2015), que tiene 13 capítulos, en donde se puede ver mucha acción, cómo fue siempre Saint Seiya, Saintia Shõ le falta ese tinte de acción, como en otras. Asu vez, las batallas que tienen las Saintia son protagonizadas por Shõko, Milo y Aioria (los caballeros dorados), quiénes participan en casi todas las peleas de los diez capítulos, exceptuando una en donde Shõko (al igual que en temporadas anteriores) necesita la ayuda de sus compañeras.

La historia en sí, transcurre al mismo tiempo que finaliza la saga del Santuario, no hay muchos villanos, quizás es una de las cosas que provoca que no haya mucha acción en la temporada, las peleas del Santuario que se muestran, le dan un poco más de acción a esta historia. Y a comparación de todas las batallas finales, esta tiene una batalla que deja mucho que desear.

Esperemos que la próxima temporada de las Saintias, no sea tan pobre y tenga una buena historia y con ese tinte de acción que suele tener Saint Seiya, al parecer al enemigo que van a enfrentar, se lo muestra como si fuera uno de los más poderosos que se pueda ver en la serie, sin contar que es uno de los dioses griegos más violento de los que hay.

Pegasus Seiya (天馬星座ペガサスの星矢, Pegasasu no Seiya), simply known as Seiya, is a fictional character in the Saint Seiya manga series created by Masami Kurumada. He is the eponymous protagonist who makes his debut in the first chapter "The Saints of Athena" (女���アテナの聖闘士, Atena no Seinto), published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on January 1, 1986. Like most of Kurumada's characters, Seiya's design was inspired in the main character of his previous hit manga Ring ni Kakero, Ryuji Takane.

Seiya is one of the eighty-eight mythical warriors known as Saints who have served the Goddess Athena throughout the ages, protecting justice and peace on Earth. As a Saint, Seiya dons a powerful armor of divine origins known as a Cloth, the one which represents the constellation of Pegasus. Seiya also possesses superhuman strength and speed, two of the many extraordinary abilities the Saints draw from their guardian constellations and an inner essence called Cosmo. Critical reception to Seiya has been mixed. While many enjoy his character design and call of justice, many reviewers feels is overshadowed by other characters and the way he handles his fights.

A remake of Saint Seiya (Los Caballeros del Zodiaco), that originally aired first in 86 to 89, was announced by Netflix and Toei.

The first season will be 12 episodes of 30 minutes, and will cover the The Galaxy war tournament to the battle with the Silver Saints!

The story follows five mystical warriors called the "Saints" (聖闘士 Seinto, or "Knights" in some adaptations) who fight wearing sacred armors named "Cloths" (聖衣 Kurosu), the designs of which derive from the various constellations the characters have adopted as their destined guardian symbols, and empowered by a mystical energy called "Cosmo" (小宇宙 Kosumo). The Saints have sworn to defend the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena in her battle against other Olympian gods who want to dominate Earth.

Netflix continúa con su apuesta por la animación CGI. Tras Castlevania, hoy hemos podido conocer que Los Caballeros del Zodiaco tendrá un remake a cargo del canal online. Según ha desvelado en exclusiva el medio japonés CinemaToday, llevará Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya y su primera temporada estará compuesta por 12 capítulos de unos 30 minutos.

Se trata de una coproducción entre Netflix Studios y TOEI Animation, quienes son los responsables del primer anime. A continuación podréis encontrar el primer póster de este remake que todavía no cuenta con fecha estimada de estreno más allá del típico "Coming Soon".

Esta nueva producción estará escrita por Masami Kurumada, creador original del manga de 1986, y dirigida por Tomek Baginski, el mismo que estará a cargo de la serie The Witcher.
