— DRAMA AUDITIONS!
on the morning of 7th MAY, all trainees are called to the AXIS BUILDING hall and are grouped according to their respective companies. murmurs softly begin to fill the hall. there have been whispers of axis labels venturing into something new, yet concrete details remain elusive.
"hello," KIM JAEKYUNG, the DIRECTOR of axis labels speaks into the mic. "i'm sure most of you have heard rumours going around of us possibly starting on a new project." the trainees quieten down, now intrigued by jaekyung. "the rumours are true. we're proud to announce that we will be working closely with SR MEDIA on our expansion into the drama business."
axis labels has announced that they will be expanding their hold in the market through the production of a drama. they have chosen to strategically select the actors from their talented pool of trainees. this move not only showcases the label's commitment to nurturing emerging talent but also aims to elevate their visibility, captivating audiences with fresh faces and compelling narratives.
while neither sr media nor axis labels have yet to disclose the drama that they will be producing, it is clear that they are putting a lot into this, and that their intent is to make their mark in the drama industry.

"we shouldn't be unreasonable and hold on to an illusion. we should accept reality."
joomi is not an actor.
this is what he keeps saying, and yet somehow, time after time, he ends up in a situation where he needs to act. one acting workshop, another acting workshop, and now this – truly his stupidest venture yet.
he had no intentions of getting anywhere near axis's drama auditions. a former joomi might've thought, "what the hell, why not? it's not like they'll select me for anything. it's just a new experience," but after approaching next gen that way and getting on the show, he knows better.
and yet he can apparently not say no to the people he cares about most, especially if they make good points. jay of all people encouraged joomi to try it. he said something about how they should seize every opportunity they can, because being in a drama can only help them and their popularity when they debut.
joomi thought that was fair enough, and jay can truly be so annoying when he wants to be, so joomi eventually agreed. fine. chances are he wouldn't get a role in the drama, but if he did, he'd do his best, and hopefully draw more attention to the delta boys.
it's only now, moments before he's set to go in the audition room, that he realizes he could get selected and bring attention to the delta boys for being a horrible actor.
no, no, surely axis wouldn't choose him for anything if he was a horrible actor. right?
it's his turn to audition soon enough. he plants himself in the center of the room in front of the judges' long table.
"hi. i'm jung joomi. i choose the scene from start-up," he informs them, and watches as the lady he assumes will be his scene partner for the audition shuffles papers.
maybe it's a risk for him to choose a scene where the male lead cries for his audition. joomi is not that good of an actor. he doesn't know if he can pull it off convincingly – but he's already familiar with the scene from the acting workshop they took, there are only a few actual lines for him to memorize and say, and he thinks he naturally looks a bit miserable. all he really needs to do is play into his image, right?
he's only practiced to the point of crying once. he forced himself to practice in front of the mirror so he could see his own expressions at least for a bit, but he hated it and felt awkward. he's comforted by the fact that he doesn't actually care what happens here. he'll do his best, and that's that.
he will unlock his ability to potentially cry for this, though. all he really needs to do is think about jinyoung in the place of dalmi in the scene. an alternate universe where joomi also goes to lime entertainment and gets picked over jinyoung to join vybe. it would play out the same, wouldn't it? even if not, it's easy to imagine. he doubts jinyoung would be nearly as torn up about it, either.
the staff member starts them off. you're making me miserable.
joomi does his best to look as miserable as possible. it's honestly not that hard – or at least it doesn't feel hard. he doesn't know how he looks, but he imagines those words leaving jinyoung's mouth and it hurts.
the staff member keeps reciting the lines, and he stands there pitifully.
and i'm not your dream, she says, and it reminds joomi of something. back when jinyoung told him he wanted to leave studio delta to join project green, he didn't react well. he mentioned something along the lines of having to cope with his dream being destroyed, and jinyoung said a person can't be your dream.
the memory comes at the perfect time, because it's when he's supposed to get more emotional in the scene. jinyoung wasn't his dream, but debuting with him was, and just like in the scene from start-up, joomi had no say in that dream being shattered.
it is really fucking sad, and sadder still that maybe if jinyoung stayed – maybe if he honored joomi's dream enough not to leave him twice – joomi would still wake up next to him every morning, and they'd still be training together.
of course, there's no knowing that. it doesn't matter, either, because like dalmi says...we shouldn't be unreasonable and hold on to an illusion. we should accept reality. he doesn't usually let himself dwell on it for long, but for this situation alone, and the purpose of stirring up the necessary emotions, he does.
"it's my birthday today," joomi says the line. and of course, joomi has a terrible track record as far as his birthday goes. something like this would happen to him.
his first year with jinyoung, he got his hopes up that he finally wouldn't be alone on his birthday – but jinyoung stopped talking to him. once jinyoung settled into himself again, joomi once again couldn't help but imagine a joyful holiday and birthday season – but jinyoung enlisted, leaving him more alone than ever.
i know.
by the end of the scene, the original actor in his role cries. all it really takes for joomi to do the same is focusing on opening himself up. it feels unnatural to cry, especially in front of other people, but he's supposed to cry over this. this is the kind of thing even boys cry over.
unfortunately, once he starts crying, he can't stop it. the scene ends, one of the staff members saying, "thank you, joomi," and tells him when he can expect to know the results, and joomi still cries.
it's time to take himself out of the scene and return to reality now, but reality is still...sad. it's even sadder that he cannot escape from this. it's no scene from a drama, where he has a boyfriend who will wrap him up in his arms after they say the word cut. this is no nightmare he gets to wake up from.
when it's all said and done, he feels...cold. alone.
"sorry," he tries to laugh through his tears that still won't stop coming. "um, thank you."
it'll be fine. he just needs five minutes in a bathroom stall to pull himself together. then he can return to training as good as new.
hopefully he just won't run into anyone on his way there.

𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 ?
a solo written in 860 words. for the 𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒂 𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 event.
while he's convinced that he's practically one of the only people in axis labels that's equipped to star in a drama, sarang wasn't sure about auditioning for this project at first. he knows that he possesses a wealth of talent when it comes to shapeshifting into different roles, and he knows that his visual appeal is the most striking amongst all the trainees, but despite this knowledge, he still tries to be realistic. sarang knows that he's beautiful and charming, but when he looks in the mirror, he doesn't necessarily see a leading man. at least not in the traditional sense.
drama fans ache to see a masculine, deep-voiced male ideal lead a series, and yeom sarang doesn't cross off those boxes. he doesn't even know if he would make a serviceable secondary lead either. as unfortunate as it is, this is simply the work of modern reality and he doesn't blame himself for any of this. in truth, it's the fault of society. in most all instances, his people aren't incredibly willing to accept those who differ from a culture built by the hands of their ancestors. a small part of him understands their apprehension, but above all, he longs to use his future platform to inspire broader acceptance.
that's why he decided to throw his hat into the ring. he can't make change just by yearning for it to happen, and after further encouragement from his friend and fellow trainee, jay, he started to prepare for his audition. going into this, he wasn't familiar with any of the dramas the scenes come from, but overall, he considers that an asset. this way, he can approach each of them with his own unique interpretation, as opposed to being influenced by the original actor's performance.
after careful consideration, sarang decided on the scene from 'start-up'. in his opinion, it's the most complex out of the other scripts, at least from the male role's point-of-view, and he's confident in his ability to handle the emotional intensity of it. as there aren't many lines for him to utter over the length of three minutes, the acting is focused largely on his face and body language. it starts with heavy emotions, and it ends with heavy emotions, but the heaviness is conveyed largely non-verbally. it appeals to him for these reasons.
now, he stands before the panel of judges and is about to showcase what he prepared. sarang is confident that he'll do well, but if nothing else, he's just glad that this helped kill the boredom he's been struggling with lately. it was a rough winter, so he's grateful that spring is ushering in renewed energy. that's neither here nor there in this moment though, and after introductions, he takes one final deep breath, shuts his eyes, and takes on a completely new form once the process starts; painting himself in broad strokes of blue and black.
he is a master of facial expressions, a natural-born talent that's become even more obvious now that he's been an idol trainee. this makes emoting using every square inch of his face effortless. he's largely silent for the first portion of the display, but the depth of soul that's conveyed through his eyes, the faint quiver of his bottom lip, the forlorn furrowing of his brows... he's still telling his side of the story, all while earnestly reacting to the lines he's treating as new information.
"dal-mi, please..." when he speaks, the texture of his voice is tense; strained. it perfectly accentuates his countenance. then, as the scene unfolds and even more is revealed, another tidal wave of emotion crashes over him, but he's careful not to let his first tear fall. his eyes storm, his heart sinks into his chest, and his visage shatters—he's a ravaged, wilted flower trapped in a hurricane. his visuals being how they are add a certain softness to his delivery, likely working in his favor as the innocence of his moon-shaped face adds a new layer to his showcase. "are you breaking up with me?"
sarang remembers the one and only time that he's been broken up with. it honestly really fucked him up. it felt so unexpected. somehow, it felt like a sucker-punch to the gut, and he relates to the questions uttered by his character on a rather personal level. he pulls from those memories to carry out the rest of his audition, finally letting tears fall toward the tail end of it—timed quite well, in his opinion.
"from the beginning... was this your plan from the beginning?"
he uttered a similar question to seonghan the night they ended. while they're not on horrible terms anymore, sarang still remembers how deeply he felt the end of their union, especially since seonghan was someone he once thought of as his first love. it adds a lasting impact to the end of the scene, and when he's done, he takes a deep breath to collect himself, dabs tears away from his eyes, bows, and when he rises back up, he greets the panel with a smile and thanks them for their time before taking his exit.

DRAMA AUDITION — SCENE 1
yuwol doesn't know what spurred him to audition—if there was a proper reason at all, other than the fact that he could, and there's no telling what would happen. he should take the chance, shoudn't he? it's not like he's familiar with the scenes he's meant to embody, he hasn't gotten around to sitting down and watching the entire thing. he does end up choosing the scene from start-up, something he feels he can resonate with a lot better.
it starts off on a bench, with playful banter that yuwol can partake in, until his scene partners expresses a sense of discomfort. worry spikes in his character, which yuwol showcases in his subtle movements, leaning over the other as his hands hover around their face. "i should have killed that crazy jerk," yuwol utters his lines, eyebrows furrowed, allowing the heat of anger to brim underneath his fingerprints, but containing it all the same.
his scene partner pulls away, continuing the scene, creating a sense of distance between the two of them. "hey, we're not strangers," yuwol adds on, lecturing his scene partner; his character is concerned after all, yet the opposing partner is refusing to get whatever is wrong checked. "i can live an embarrassing life, but you shouldn't," yuwol replies, moving forward with a sense of righteousness, like an overbearing parent. his voice rises gradually, until he finally says, "don't let others think lowly of you!"
with his character having said all that, he turns around—taking in deep breaths, as if calming himself down from an outburst. avoiding eye contact, avoiding the root of the issue, the typical disposition of a man in society.
why is your life so embarrassing?
outside of the character himself, yuwol can think of several reasons—he spent many of his years wandering around the world, unsure what to make of himself, following a path laid out for him that he thought what his only option. he made a fool out of himself on national tv, causing his parents to call him an embarrassment; it's a word he is more than familiar with. yuwol swallows, eyes fixated on the ground, allowing the silence to shimmer into the scenario before he breaks it with his next line.
his fingers drum against his thigh, chewing on his lip as if he's trying to hold back his words, but eventually caves. "remember, how he said i was a... dumb athlete? i'm that... lame dude" familiar words, shaped differently.
you can't do anything but the violin, yuwol.
gaze frozen to the ground below him, yuwol lets out a sigh, too ashamed to look back up at his scene partner. "you're dumb, but you're not lame," she says.
that's when yuwol looks up, processing the words, facing the other once more. "what?"
she looks straight in his eyes. "you'll make it big, i know it."
yuwol blinks, like he's—his character's—registering the statement in his head, said with such confidence. he'll make it big, was the conviction. he can't believe it, picking at fabric of his pants, shaking his head. "everybody thinks i'm lame," he adds a gentle scoff.
do they know you? nobody else knows you more than i do. trust me. regardless of what people say, you'll make it, i promise you.
it's rare—to have someone believe in you so unconditionally, with no reservations. his worth had always been tied to a single instrument he can't break away from, until the chance he took in next gen. even after coming out of that show an embarrassment, accomplishing nothing and having nothing in his name, someone still believed he can make it.
"i’ve never… thought of you as a failure either. and i wasn’t disappointed in you when you didn’t make it through next gen. i didn’t love you any less for that, i don’t think i ever will," he can hear kou's voice in the back of his mind, the words that managed to make rain fall from yuwol's eyes, said so sincerely that yuwol couldn't believe it was reality.
a small laugh escapes him, a nervous smile. "darn it," yuwol mumbles, his voice a little shaky. he fumbles around, shifting in his seat, shoving his hands into his pockets. and then, the silent tears—quiet, subtle, but undoubtedly there.
"let's go, let's go home and order some chicken feet," the scene continues.
"you... you made me cry," yuwol says under his breath, his voice accompanied by a tremble. "you give seolhui a hug like this when she cries," he sniffles, still trying to contain himself—refusing to fall apart, even though it'd be common sense to. "pat me, go ahead." it's like a plea from an overgrown child, begging with a tear-stained face.

DRAMA AUDITION - SCENE 4
claudine hadn't planned on auditioning—at least, there was that nasty voice in her head telling her not to. not because she doesn't believe she'll do a good job or anything of that sort. call her petty, but since she has a feeling sr media will be spearheading the production of everything related to the drama, she kind of wanted to opt out. but sarang said she could get her revenge by showing her abilities in acting, and she is 50% fueled by spite—so that eventually managed to get her to saunter into the audition room with her script in her hand.
the scene starts off with a monologue in her head, which means she needs to be expressive with her eyes—look a little shocked, a little caught off guard. "what? why is he so good-looking?" she stares at her scene partner, eyes boring into his skin, as if analyzing him with a look of surprise. "please have a seat," she says, sounding slightly strained in accordance to what's required of her from the script.
avoid eye contact, look elsewhere—like she's stuck in her own brain, drowned by her own thoughts. "i wish i could take my time appreciating his looks," she swallows, still avoiding eye contact, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere that's slightly more comedic.
"i don't even know who you are. your name is?" her character decides to be rude, an exaggerated sort of comic relief scene that's meant for gags and laughs. she's used to that, stage acting relies a lot on exaggerated gestures and expressive faces, which is what's required in a scene like this. "kang taemoo... the president of our company, kang taemoo?" she quickly changes her facial expression again, shifting to shock once more, smoothly transitioning to another expression as she stares at an imaginary card she's holding in her hands.
that's how most of the scene goes. she's playing a character that's playing another character after all—in a comedic manner, but still. while the monologue is playing in her head, she holds the cup with one hand, showing subtle signs of nerves as what is needed. "don't be so nervous," she chastises herself, a dialogue that's meant to be just in her head. she takes a deep breath, looking at her scene partner like a girl containing herself from exploding.
"it's a bit too hot in here, isn't it?" she lets her jacket fall from her shoulder in an exaggerated motion, seeming proud of herself—that's what the character is thinking: that this is the right course of action for her mission. then, a nervous laugh, as her scene partner caughts her character in her lie. shifting in her seat, pretending and pretending and pretending. "on to the next step."
she starts talking to her items—her shoe, a bag, whatever she can get her hands on. her character's mission is to make the other man uncomfortable, but it's not working. she tries again, talks about samantha and rachel, playing up the dramatics for the scene, all with a smile.
"you like me? you really like me?" she flips her hair, glancing at the man from the corner of her eyes. "should we get a room... so we can really get down to business?" her smile remains, now a little more mischevious, followed by a wink, suggestive, her tone more sultry than the last—and that's how the scene ends.

━━ 2025 drama ◞ scene 4 audition.· ( wc : 581 )
'hyeran, this is such a great opportunity for you! why didn't you tell me sooner? do you even have enough time to prepare? it's okay, it's just that if you had told me earlier i could have helped you rehearse!'
"no, mom. it's okay," hyeran tells her mother with a sigh.
'are you sure you don't want my help? well . . . if you say so. i'm positive that you'll get a part in the drama. hopefully it'll be something worthwhile, but they'd be stupid to not to cast you. i mean, look at you!'
it's not long before the auditions that hyeran had divulged the information to her mother. she'd been dreading it, actually. she knew the older woman would make a big deal out of things, which is why the trainee decided not to tell her until a few nights before the audition. that way, there would be less time for the other to nag her about one thing or another.
after enrolling herself in acting lessons, she finds that the art sort of comes naturally to her. hyeran didn't necessarily feel confident going in, but her face would never show it. coming out of classes, though, she certainly did feel confident about her skills. she knows that the sr media trainees focus more heavily on this skill, but thinks that she might catch up to them with time.
looking into the small compact she always keeps on her person, hyeran fixes her hair, making sure there's not a strand out of place. next, she grins, ensuring she doesn't have any lipstick on her teeth.
"jo hyeran? come this way please," someone calls her name and she looks up, flashing them a smile before bowing politely and following them in the room. once she's in front of the panel and after they've introduced themselves, she takes one big breath before starting her performance.
hyeran is hoping that she'll stand out due to the complexity of her performance. after all, the scene she's chosen relies heavily on her facial expressions and she'd practiced them day after day in the mirror. though in the drama, the character's words are presented as an inner monologue, she says them out loud in order to keep with the timing of the performance.
plus, it'd be a little weird for the judges to just stare at her for a few minutes as she looks around the room.
"kang taemoo," she says coyly, snatching an imaginary business card from thin air. it takes a moment but then the look on hyeran's face changes as she realizes that the person in front of her is the CEO of their company. she's shocked learning the true identity of the person in front of her and she tries to play it off, but it's clear that the businessman's card has rattled her. her character tries to laugh it off, but there's awkwardness in the words she says as her character panics.
again, she says hari's monologue out loud, trying to reflect the same tone as the original actress. hyeran's hands shake as she picks up her imaginary cup of tea.
"it's so hot," she says in english, eyes opening. hyeran continues the scene, trying her best to emulate the original actress' tone and mannerisms while giving it her own flair.
before she knows it, her audition is over. she stands up, bowing, grateful for the opportunity. hyeran leaves the room, breathing a sigh of relief when she's finally out of sight.

˙ ˖ ✧ — DRAMA AUDITION. eunbin re-enacts a scene from start up for her audition.
when eunbin initially heard of the drama audition, she was on the fence about giving it a try. however, when she began her life as a trainee, she made it a goal to dip her toes into everything she could, even if she didn't end up debuting. that way, she could really make her most out of the whole experience.
truthfully, all the given options were pretty tricky, but she tried to recall what she learned from the one acting workshop she had taken. while it definitely wasn't enough to turn her into some top-tier actress, there were some tips they had given that helped her immerse into the given scene.
she tried to focus most on the range of emotions she had to express. from anger to frustration and at the end, a faux calmness all while she would have to cry. did she choose a tough scene to re-enact? probably. but it was also the one that she wanted to try the most.
when she stands in front of the staff members, she takes a brief moment to really get into the scene. while she hasn't been through what dalmi has been through, there are a wide range of things she could take inspiration from. nevertheless, what mattered the most for her at this moment was to get through this audition with no regrets.
"stop making me feel pathetic and just go!" while practicing, eunbin thought that this was the turning point in this scene for dalmi. it's when she realizes that she can't just convince dosan through nice, sugar-coated words. she has to hurt him to make sure that he makes what she believes is the right decision.
this is also where she the anger boils down, and she needs to appear as if she's made a firm decision herself to let him go, so he makes the right choice. "you're not the dosan from the letters," she says before digging through her makeshift bag to hand over the ball. "i'm also not your dream."
her breath is relaxed, and she's avoiding looking her fellow actor in the eyes as she does her best to hold back her tears as dalmi. she can't show herself crying now, so he doesn't know that this is hurting her as well.
before she knows it, she's done acting out the scene. giving a quick bow to the staff in front of her, she wipes the tears that have fallen onto her cheeks before leaving the room. while she doesn't know what results await her, eunbin feels pretty refreshed from giving this a try. it was fun, and that's what ultimately mattered to her.

drama casting audition: scene three word count: 618
it's not like kou had any intention on auditioning for the drama in the first place. things had just somehow ended up this way – he'd spoken to joomi and somehow, whilst listening to his friend complain about being pushed to audition; kou finds himself here, in this very situation.
( "sure," he'd said when joomi had brought up auditioning. "it's not like anything will happen." which, kou had in that moment, truly believed. that nothing could possibly come out of this ).
he stands in front of the staff, lines already prepared. kou had never really thought of himself as an actor; though in truth kou had never really thought of himself as well  a-to-be-celebrity of sorts. yet, here he was now, in sr media, training to be exactly that.
if anything, he's thankful though, that sr had practically drilled him when it came to acting. it's not that it's second nature to him, but acting isn't something that kou is completely unfamiliar with. the memorisation of lines too aren't as difficult.
he faces them with his usual stoic expression, and bows. "hello, my name is sato kou," he greets.
there isn't much that goes through his mind, kou simply takes a deep breath and closes his eyes for a moment. he thinks back to all the workshops sr media had sent him for, all the training, the lines that he'd recited.
the character in this script is particularly hurt, his heart is broken - a break up with someone he was in love. kou taps into that.
the staff says the female lead's lines and kou stares at her, eyebrows furrowing and his eyes slowly filling up with tears as he listens to her read out the words.
"dalmi, please," his voice breaks, just like the character's from the script. the voice of a man who's pleading for his lover to stay, to not leave him - for a second chance; a voice full of desperation as he clasps tightly onto the imaginary hand that is slowly slipping away.
the staff continues the lines, and kou has to hold back his tears ( well, not his tears, but the character's currently holding back his tears, and kou is simply trying to reenact the same ). he plays with his breathing, feels the character's desperation as he says the next lines, "are you breaking up with me?"
he's had his fair share of relationships but kou has never been one to hold onto something that's already come to it's end - but it isn't a question he's unfamiliar with asking, though that was simply because kou was a man that needed clarity.
the scene continues, heavy and dripping with emotion, as kou's character begins to break down - a pathetic man calling out, yearning for his lover to stay. he's read the synopsis of the drama he's acting out, and it isn't exactly far-fetched to call his current character a liar.
"it's my birthday today."
"i know."
"did you come just to tell me this?" still, it isn't lost on him, the situation in the scene, the tragedy between two people that are in love with each other, his voice is slightly more stable, but it still it shakes. he takes in a deep breath, prepares himself to say his last few lines.
"from the beginning... was this your plan from the beginning?" he asks, and the staff replies. the scene doesn't end there though, kou stares at the panel of staff, and silently, he cries, his voice shaking as he does so - as though his character has given up on everything, as though he's lost everything he's held on to.
a few seconds pass, and kou bows, wiping the tears from his face. "thank you."
