6 Game-Changing BIM Trends in 2023
Tumblr media
Introduction
In the ever-evolving landscape of the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, Building Information Modeling (BIM) continues to play a pivotal role in transforming the way projects are planned, designed, constructed, and managed. As we step into 2023, it's crucial to explore the emerging trends that are set to reshape the AEC sector and push the boundaries of BIM technology. In this blog post, we delve into the in-depth analysis of the BIM trends that are expected to define the industry in 2023.
1. Cloud-Based BIM Collaboration:
One of the most significant trends in 2023 is the increasing adoption of cloud-based BIM collaboration. Cloud technology allows stakeholders to access and collaborate on a centralized BIM model from anywhere in the world, fostering real-time collaboration and improving project efficiency. This trend is driven by the need for seamless communication among project teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers.
2. AI and Machine Learning Integration:
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into BIM processes is gaining momentum. In 2023, we can expect to see advanced AI algorithms being used to analyze massive datasets generated by BIM models. This will enable more accurate predictions regarding project timelines, cost estimates, and even potential risks. Machine learning algorithms can also enhance design optimization and automate routine tasks, allowing professionals to focus on more complex and creative aspects of their work.
3. Generative Design and Parametric Modeling:
Generative design, coupled with parametric modeling, is poised to revolutionize the design phase of construction projects. By leveraging algorithms to explore countless design iterations based on predefined parameters, architects and engineers can generate innovative and optimized solutions. This trend not only accelerates the design process but also results in more sustainable and cost-effective structures.
4. Digital Twins for Lifecycle Management:
Digital Twins, virtual replicas of physical assets or systems, are becoming an integral part of BIM workflows. In 2023, we anticipate an increased focus on using Digital Twins for lifecycle management of buildings and infrastructure. From construction to operation and maintenance, Digital Twins provide a holistic view of a project, enabling better decision-making, predictive maintenance, and improved overall performance.
5. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in BIM:
The convergence of BIM with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) is set to enhance the visualization and communication of construction projects. Stakeholders can experience virtual walkthroughs of a building before it's constructed, identify potential issues, and make informed decisions. This immersive experience not only improves collaboration but also aids in client presentations and stakeholder engagement.
6. Blockchain for Data Security and Collaboration:
As BIM involves the sharing and collaboration of sensitive project data, ensuring its security and integrity is paramount. Blockchain technology is emerging as a solution to address these concerns. In 2023, we expect to see increased adoption of blockchain in BIM processes, providing a decentralized and secure platform for data exchange, version control, and audit trails.
Conclusion
The AEC industry is standing on the precipice of a BIM revolution in 2023. The trends outlined above showcase the industry's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and innovation throughout the project lifecycle. As professionals embrace these trends, they will not only stay competitive in the market but also contribute to the evolution of a more sustainable and technologically advanced AEC sector. Embracing these trends is not just a choice but a necessity for those looking to shape the future of the industry.

On Thirsty Audiences
Dramatic literature and theatre is my first field: though I was a fan before I was anything else, I wasn’t a fan studies scholar till later in my career.  But, like many academics, my interest in the subjects I’ve studied borders on fannish interest, and so theatre is one of my fandoms.
Kirsty Sedgwick is a major figure in audience studies, and she’s recently crossed over from academia into more general public intellectual spaces with her latest book, On Being Unreasonable: Breaking the Rules and Making Things Better (Faber & Faber, 2023.)  There’s always been an overlap between fan studies and audience studies, and Sedgwick is a scholar of theatre audiences. Her work frequently questions the rules (explicit and implicit) of being an audience member and asks who those rules exclude: for instance, mothers with small children. In her 2018 book, The Reasonable Audience: Theatre Etiquette, Behaviour Policing, and the Live Performance Experience, Sedwick talks about the ways in which behavior standards can be sexist, racist, ableist, and otherwise exclusionary of the very diversity of audience members that theatre-makers claim that they want to attract.
I thought that I would highlight a different essay from Sedgwick’s oeuvre: 2018’s “How can we talk about ‘thirst’ in theatre?” written for Exeunt magazine.  In it, Sedgwick talks about the ways in which women are seen to enjoy theatre for the “wrong” reasons, stinking up lobbies with their love of Benedict Cumberbatch or Hugh Jackman or Tom Hiddleston or Kit Harrington. Sedgwick describes how  “the fear of female audiences reached its peak recently in the handsome-celebrities-onstage trend – like when the theatresphere nervously anticipated how swarms of Benedict Cumberbatch fans might ruin the star’s 2015 Hamlet with their tardiness and addiction to instagram, or when Tom Hiddleston’s fans were criticized for “colonizing the pavement” after Coriolanus.  Sedgwick argues that “the real mystery is how theatres have been able to get away for so long with using the desires of girls to fill their seats while simultaneously shaming them for it.“
Sedgwick also argues that not all forms of thirst are equal, and that while male thirst can be dangerous because of how it keeps women down, “female thirst almost always operates to build men up.” In particular, she cites the ways in which fans work to “give underappreciated actors of colour the attention they deserve.” She quotes Bim Adewunmi and Nichole Perkins of the Thirst Aid Kit podcast talking about John Cho.  The podcasters explain that:
“every time we saw him, we’d say, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s so amazing, he’s so hot.’ We really wanted to give him some shine. We see you–not just because you’re beautiful, but because we see what you’re doing on and off screen, and we want to amplify that.”
Sedgwick concludes that “If male thirst simplifies women to bits of flesh, then female thirst tends to be all about fleshing out the person inside,” and concludes that thirst can be radical. The whole article is worth a read, as is much of Sedgwick’s other work.

07 27 ‘23 ( ✴︎ )  ‎ ،  ‎ after lucky hour is the debut mini album of south korean co-ed group dachi. title track bim bam bum is a refreshing love letter to fans of the all-too-known cute concept, while also bringing something new to the table.
Tumblr media
the album   ‎ ‎ ‎ ıllı ‎ ‎[ 🌈 ]    ‎♪ ҉
bim bam bum would be released a whopping nine months after lucky hour ended, marking confusion from viewers. the show didn’t do terribly — seoyi got first place with 200 000 points and 130 000 votes, in fact — so what’s with the holdup? radio silence continued until mystic story announced their debut date on june 30th. fans complained to the company about wait time, but no statement has been made up to this point.
teaser rollout began almost immediately afterwards. it was all mainly group photos, save for short teaser videos that obscured the member’s faces like it wasn’t public information, but the reactions were mostly positive. despite the obvious connection in motifs and music score throughout the teasers — same background tune, similar dark hallways, replicated props — the videos seemed different in every single way. it would set the scene for the intro to dachi’s universe, (tomo)rrow.
the music video for bim bam bum, for lack of a better word, popped off the screen. every scene was a vibrant clash of textures and colours. locations from the individual teaser videos were all used: a flower garden, a corner store, a shopping mall, an abandoned outdoor pool, a candy diner. multiple forms of media were used as well, including water colour artwork, stop motion animation, and little cartoon avatars cutefully named the neighbourhood friends.
bim bam bum became an inspiration for graphic designers, artists, and editors, with multiple trends coming out of the music video alone. this includes: editing your favourite character to the final chorus in a mograph-type style, creating templates based off of each mv location, and drawing the neighbourhood friends beside a character with a completely different aesthetic, like vincent valentine from ffvii.
despite the overwhelming positivity from the general public, dachi was met with intense hatred from kpop fans and obsessed akgaes. a burst in popularity came stalking, bitter comments about eun ‘breathing too hard into the mic’ despite performing live during every single performance, called a ‘quick cash grab by mystic story’, penchants for commenting on their looks for no reason, etc. they were compared to a multitude of other groups including itzy, weki meki, and nct dream, supposedly for having overlapping concepts. mystic story barely moved to protect dachi, only dishing out a statement after the promotional period passed.
speaking of the promotional period, dachi managed to bag one win during three weeks of music show stages. the now-beloved bside passionfruit was also promoted alongside bim bam bum, but didn’t earn a win. being up against big names definitely hindered awards they could have gotten, but one is better than none.
overall, the album itself was a massive success. they solidified their role in the industry right at the beginning of their careers in dachi. whether you love them or hate them, bim bam bum will find its way to your playlist.
Tumblr media
tracklist   ‎ ‎ ‎ ıllı ‎ ‎[ 💿 ]    ‎♪ ҉
→ 01. . . bim bam bum
daring, colourful, cute. pushed against the boundary of trends and created something new. reminiscent of 3rd gen girl groups.
02. . . blue orangeade
funky, cool, bright. best played during a long drive. highlighted the foolish nature of dachi.
03. . . like i do
sophisticated, fancy, bouncy. explored the synth aspect of dachi’s discography. certified deep-cut with exactly 8 fans.
04. . . passionfruit
chill, groovy, addictive. sounds like how it feels to drink iced tea. suits any type of weather.
05. . . skateboard
happy, breezy, calming. some real heavenly vocal moments from jeyeol. brought back real kpop excellency.
06. . . bahama
beachy, sweet, easy-listening. a song you can let play and always enjoy. perfect outro track.
Tumblr media
styling   ‎ ‎ ‎ ıllı ‎ ‎[ 👒 ]    ‎♪ ҉
Tumblr media
the styling for this era was divided into two parts: the flowery costumes (top row) and the candy costumes (bottom row).
the flowery costumes strayed the furthest from the original concept, diving straight into floral and natural aesthetics. the members were caked in makeup at all times, trying to balance the weight of heavy accessories and keeping a smile on their faces. chorong mentioned during an interview that the process of putting everything on was 3 hours for one music show, which she never wants to go through ever again. while the outfits were gorgeous paired with the stunning stage sets, it was a behind-the-scenes disaster.
the candy costumes are a fan favourite for many obvious reasons. not only do the outfits fit the album, but were much more comfortable. the 2000s influence directly mirrors the nostalgic feel of bim bam bum. they all wore tank-tops, graphic tees, baggy jeans, thick belts, and combat boots. some of the girls wore long dresses, thigh-highs, and skirts. each makeup look wasn’t even makeup, just charms stuck to their faces in a pattern. seoyi went viral for her butterfly charm look, and suddenly half the industry followed in her steps.
fashion team director choi narim explained why there was such a large duality, “dachi has been a sensation even before this satisfying debut. i knew they would be stars when i looked at the four of them. i thought to myself they must stand out from the rest, and i’ve succeeded, seeing all this media attention. big risks can mean even bigger victory in the world of entertainment.”
Tumblr media
era notes   ‎ ‎ ‎ ıllı ‎ ‎[ 🗒️ ]    ‎♪ ҉
the era was almost-ruined by weirdos, yet pockets had an absolute blast. posts going viral left and right, unique lineup gaining traction, lucky hour fans coming back after their fav was eliminated, it was fun!!! too bad they had a part time job in blocking accounts
the birth of the first official solo stans… who else cried. ot4 pockets desperately tried defending the members from Everybody. multiple ppl were wrongfully accused of being akgaes, the largest account dedicated to lucky hour was exposed for being an eun anti…
the members were sooooo stressed out. especially seoyi, whose sudden leap into fame caused anxiety
their teaser videos were kind of a Hot Mess but made sense when the chaotic mv for bim bam bum came out
u already know a japanese artist drew gojo with the neighbourhood friends, spiking interest from anime fans. it’s hard to say if they actually tuned in, but promo is promo
dachi’s labelmates billlie also made an appearance. everyone filmed a tiktok dancing to passionfruit on billlie’s account, and pockets and belllie’ves thought the interaction between moon sua and eun was so adorable. eun was barely in frame, but moon sua guided her in, which caused eun to smile and bury her face in her hands
the music video for bim bam bum racked up 9.5 million views within the first week, shocking the fandom
seoyi was the very obvious star of the show. a different article about her would come out every day, talking about something so mundane like sleeping habits that she forgot she even said it. every camera pointed to her as she walked. she truly became the face of kpop for a good three weeks
impossible for all four of them to Not serve cunt. it’s almost contagious
jeyeol and chorong wrote bahama + eun and seoyi helped produce some parts of like i do!!! truly a talented group
after lucky hour is recognized as one of the most cohesive eps from 2023, with a pitchfork review of 8.2

100 Years Ago, Cincinnati’s Christmas Spirit Was Inspired By A Chinless Comic-Strip Star
Over the past century, a deluge of fads and trends has overwhelmed any effort to demonstrate just how popular a comic strip called “The Gumps” really was in 1923. The comic’s creator, Sidney Smith, earned millions from the syndicated comic and its adaptations for film and radio and related merchandise including toys and games, sheet music, playing cards, even branded food items.
Artist Smith engaged his readers through long story arcs that tossed the Gump family and their neighbors into all sorts of troubles from which they emerged through pluck and the occasional intervention of deus ex machina. Smith is credited with being the first comic artist to kill off a recurring character, a bold move that swamped his syndicate’s offices with letters and phone calls.
The Cincinnati Times-Star was rather late to the game in picking up “The Gumps.” The strip had been running five years before the Times-Star added it to the comics page in February 1922. The strip caught on fast in the Queen City and readers took to the Gump family as if they were neighbors.
The Gump family consisted of Andrew “Andy” Gump, pater familias; his wife Minerva, known as Min; and their son Chester Bim Gump – that middle name inserted on the discovery that Andy’s Uncle Bim was quite wealthy. The Gumps had a dog and a cat and a troublesome but humorous maid.
Tumblr media
Which brings us to Christmas in 1923. Andy Gump was a business executive, long-winded, opinionated, but basically a decent fellow. He was the president of a company that manufactured hairbrushes – a long-running gag because he was bald. A story line throughout the autumn of 1923 involved Andy taking on a partner named J. Ambrose Hepwing in a scheme to produce a patented combination hairbrush and mirror. As Thanksgiving gave way to December, Andy learned that his partner had absconded with all the money set aside to build a new factory. The Gumps faced a bleak Christmas indeed as the family was evicted from their home. Andy declared bankruptcy, while offering a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the swindler, J. Ambrose Hepwing.
Cincinnati rushed to assist the poor Gump family. A reward of $10,000 – even if offered by a fictional person in a comic strip – certainly attracted attention. The Times-Star gleefully reported on tips sent to the newspaper, like this one from 21 December 1923:
“I saw a man answering your old partner Hepwing’s description on Fifth street to-day. He was riding in a large automobile of foreign make and was decked out in a swell suit of clothes, black and white checked overcoat and covered with diamonds. Followed him to a prominent hotel where he registered under an assumed name.”
John L. Richey, manager of the Adjustment Bureau of the Cincinnati Association of Credit Men, stepped up, sending along a pamphlet outlining how his organization could assist companies faced with bankruptcy. As reported in the Times-Star [18 December 1923] Mr. Richey indulged in a bit of self-promotion:
“I am inclosing herewith, a pamphlet which would indicate just what steps Andy could take in rehabilitating his affairs. I thought this might be interesting to you, as credit men generally are attracted by a condition such as we see facing Andy, might like to see him pulled out of the hole by some such medium, and his crooked friend brought to ‘time’ through the same instrumentality.”
A couple days later, the Times-Star reported that Credit Man Richey had received several letters in response to his offer of guidance to the bankrupt cartoon character. One was an official application to the National Association of Credit Men, Cincinnati Branch, apparently filled out on Andy Gump’s part by an anonymous employee of the firm. The other was a letter from the superintendent of the Verona, Kentucky, public schools, applauding Richey’s offer:
“I too have been following Andy Gump in his political and business career, and I am glad to note that such men as you are to consider such cartoons from their real business, psychological and moral angles.”
Tumblr media
The Times-Star ran an editorial on Andy Gump’s tribulations on 21 December 1923, and compared his situation with a number of local investors who had been bamboozled by a con man selling shares in a Panamanian oil company that did not exist. According to the editorial:
“The word ‘gump’ is in the dictionary, where it is defined as ‘a stupid person, a simpleton.’ It seems that Andy is just a type.”
Of course, no Christmas drama would be complete without the pencil-scribbled and misspelled note from an innocent child. Seven-year-old Dorothy Hancock of 4710 Hamilton Avenue came through. She sent along a letter accompanied by a hand-drawn check for $3,000 and a sample packet of complexion powder for Mrs. Gump. Her letter, as reprinted in the Times-Star [22 December 1923] read:
“Dear Mr. and mis gump – so sorry you lost all your money just before Christmas but I hope Santa will not forgit Chester. hope you catch Hepwing and maybe you will get bake to making happy hairbrushes for happy heads. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.”
While following the travails of its star comic character, the Times-Star ran advertisements from the Starr Piano Company on Fourth Street, where, for the price of a dollar, customers could purchase a phonograph record on which Andy Gump himself (probably voiced by cartoonist Sidney Smith) offered Christmas greetings.
In the end, it turned out that Andy’s financial woes were manufactured by wealthy Uncle Bim (short for Bimbo) who wanted to test Andy’s financial acuity before entrusting him with any substantial benefactions. Shortly after revealing these machinations, Uncle Bim was called back suddenly to Australia by a mysterious stranger. Andy and the Gumps stumbled on to further misadventures.
Cartoonist Smith died in 1935 on his way home from signing a $150,000-a-year contract to continue the strip. The syndicate recruited Gus Edison to keep “The Gumps” in print through 1959. One of Edison’s assistants was actor Martin Landau. Among the actors performing in the radio version of “The Gumps,” which aired from 1931 to 1937, was Agnes Moorehead, who later went on to star in the television series “Bewitched.”

Gimme your top 5 creature/monster designs of all time 🔪🔪🔪🔪
HI BIM! Thank you for the question ^^ "all time" is kinda tough but I got 5 that I love for ya: 1. AM from Harlson Ellison's short story "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream". Three nations build supercomputer AIs to strategize for them in wartime. One of them gains sentience, absorbs the other two, and continues to spread itself in the form of a world-wide underground complex. Most focus on AM's motivation (The quote "LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU") but AM's parasitical takeover fascinated me in a visceral way. Like a system of veins creeping it's way through the world. 2. Pole Plant from Rainworld
Creature that mimics exposed rebar so they can coil their tiny tendrils around you and then pull you into their underground lair. Okay, I think this one popped into my head because of the previous one xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Darklurker (Dark Souls 2) It just looks absolutely sick as hell. And in true Fromsoft fashion, it's cut content shoehorned back into the game so it has no explanation and maximum mystery.
Tumblr media
3. King Ghidorah (King of the Monsters) My favorite angry lizor
Tumblr media
5. Van Helsing Werewolves Still sad the design never trended.

The reggae pioneer and record producer Jah Shaka, who has died suddenly in his late 60s, was a giant of the British sound system scene. In a career that lasted more than 55 years, he transformed the sound system landscape with a distinctive and idiosyncratic style, eschewing the dominant trends to focus exclusively on contemporary reggae that was spiritually uplifting and politically relevant, presenting the music as a means of inspiration and empowerment for the disenfranchised and oppressed.
At the many dances he held in diverse underground spaces, playing on an ancient and archaic Garrard turntable in a trance-like state, Shaka would chant messages of encouragement as well as exhortations of transcendent devotion to Rastafari, adding custom-built effects and live percussive elements to increase the dramatic tension.
Through his masterful use of components such as a pre-amp, a syndrum and a homemade siren box, he made the sessions visceral and immersive, boosting the subsonic bass frequencies at regular intervals to create a transportive and transformative experience. He reinforced this shamanistic persona by not revealing his given name or other details of his personal life.
An integral part of the black community of his home base in Lewisham, south-east London, during the late 1970s, Shaka deployed a sonic wizardry that made a dramatic impact on the post-punk music of Public Image Limited and the Slits, whose members were then among the few white attendees of his dances. Broader audiences became aware of his importance when he appeared in Franco Rosso’s evocative 1980 urban drama film Babylon, playing himself at a south London sound system session as the action draws to a climax.
Jamaican reggae subsequently underwent dramatic changes during the mid-80s as the dancehall style came to the fore, its output largely preoccupied with lasciviousness, violence and frivolity. British sound systems inevitably embraced the new style, but Shaka opted to become a lone voice in the wilderness that kept the roots reggae flame burning, advancing an up-tempo homegrown variant that became known as UK Steppers.
With a backing band he dubbed the Fasimbas after a local activist group established in response to the discriminatory treatment of black children in the British school system, from 1980 Shaka also produced original music with upcoming unknowns such as African Princess and Sister Audrey, as well as self-produced work.
He went on to produce reggae vocalists such as Bim Sherman, Johnny Clarke, the Twinkle Brothers, Max Romeo and Horace Andy, and released an impressive series of dub albums, including collaborative works with Aswad and Mad Professor. In the same period he ran a three-storey community hub in New Cross, known as the Culture Shop, which acted as a focal point for local black youth and housed a record store, a Caribbean food outlet and a Rastafari-oriented hair salon.
Although his record productions did not achieve much mainstream success, they were consistently popular with his core audience, and, more importantly, the uniqueness of his sound system would ultimately inspire acolytes such as Iration Steppas and Zion Train, as well as various sound system operators across the world.
Shaka spent his infant years in rural Clarendon, south Jamaica, before his parents moved the family to the UK in 1956 in search of betterment. They settled in south-east London, and it was while attending Samuel Pepys comprehensive school that he began an apprenticeship on the local soul sound system Freddie Cloudburst, beginning in 1968 as a “box boy”, helping to transport and set up the speaker boxes.
Later he ensured that the amplifiers and speakers were functioning properly, and finally became the resident selector to showcase work by Nina Simone, the Temptations, the Drifters, Diana Ross and other Motown acts. Then, after being inspired by activists such as Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and Angela Davis, as well as his overarching Rastafari faith, he formed his own sound system in 1970, which he named Jah Shaka after the Zulu king.
Armed with exclusive dubplates and a powerfully commanding presence on the microphone, Shaka soon began building a name on the sound system underground, triumphing at many a sound clash. But along with the accolades came tensions with the police, who raided a dance he held in Brockley, south-east London, in 1975, beating attendees and damaging his equipment.
Undaunted, Shaka established a residency at Phebes nightclub in Stoke Newington, north London, in the late 70s, followed by another at Club Noreik in Tottenham, and was crowned the top sound system at the Black Echoes reggae awards in 1980 and 1981. His audience widened during the 90s, when he enjoyed a popular residency at the Rocket, adjoining the University of North London (now London Metropolitan University).
Shaka made his first pilgrimage to the African continent in 1984, and established the Jah Shaka Foundation in Ghana in 1992 to distribute medical supplies, library books and other materials to schools and medical clinics. He also undertook charitable works in Ethiopia, Jamaica and Kenya.
His extensive touring schedule took him throughout Europe and to Japan, Africa, Mexico and Peru. He became a regular festival headliner while mentoring his son, known as Young Warrior, who became a leading sound system practitioner and record producer in his own right.
Noted for his stamina and for presiding over all-night sessions without a break, Shaka continued to command large audiences at events in the UK and abroad.
He is survived by his extended family.

Ohhh, honestly I cannot blame you for the list BAHAHAHA, most of them are very nice and chill, but after going through your form I went "Yeah you fit with Thoma".
I will say that reading through these twice (yes, twice) made me very excited because the dynamic is like?? Really fitting for you two??? I do think that in some areas he'd be able to adapt (even if yk, he may fail a few times because he wasn't expecting for you to switch your personalities like that), but you two are going to be one of the best so far BAHAHAHA
(I wont lie, seeing this made me go "ooh, potential ideas... good to know" BAHAHAHAHA)
