WINTER HAS COME TO BOE
Winter has indeed come to BOE. It's wonderful to see all the white stuff cover everything outside. It's such a beautiful sight, and we have been looking forward to this after all the rain we have endured for the last month or so. The white snow is definitely prefered over all the mud, and the kids loves it!

The shetlandsponies will be going outside soon, but the kids wanted some pictures with them, so I complied and let Calypso snap some pictures. She has evolved an interest for photography, and that might come in handy soon I hope.
Kaki Golden has been gelded, and has become much calmer after that, which seems to sooth Ares' anxiety around horses. He still hasn't ridden Barmur much, if at all, so his sister Athena keeps him in shape, if he should want to ride the gelding at some point. He seems to enjoy grooming the shetlandsponies though, so for now that's good enough for me. He doesn't have to love horses, just because he has been born into this family.
Athena is as horse crazy as ever, and even tried to jump onto Loco's back the other day. Good thing she couldn't reach, as Loco hasn't been broken in yet, and probably would have thrown her off right away. Feline and I had a stern talk with her about just jumping on horses in the pastures, and I think she understands that - at least for a little wild. Nothing can contain that wild child xD

Loco hasn't been gelded yet, so he currently shares pasture with the Icelandic boys, but I hope to get him gelded soon, so he and all the ponies can share the pasture together.

The warmbloods seems to like the snow, and Commodor and Jet spends a lot of time running around and enjoying to stretch their muscles in the cool air.
Smarties seems to like scraping at the snow with high knee lifts every time, which I guess is good. He has never seen snow before and was quite puzzled by it to begin with, but with the calm mood from the other stallions he just went right in!
These days Sailor and Obaldo seems to argue a lot. They have a hard time to agree on anything it seems, so we might want to split the stallion herd in two soon. Sailor will probably stay with Jet and Commodor, while Obaldo will go with Smarties, as Sailor has always been a good influence on the younger stallions and takes the leader role well. Smarties is such a calm boy, and probably won't argue with Obaldo, but he is big enough to not be pushed around like a ragdoll.

Birthday Gifts
FEATURING: BOE Hrímfaxi, BOE Barmur, BOE Armand de Brignac, Athena Cole-Flockhart, Ares Cole-Flockhart & Calypso Cole.
Look who we just got home! And Calypso was nice enough to take the twins for a ride on them. Ares didn't want to go, but as he saw how excited his sister was, he got excited too. Mostly he just cuddles with the horses, but today he actually rode one. And not any horse, this was his birthday present from Feline and I.
Hrímfaxi is the Black Splash White one and is Athena's, and Barmur (called Bear) is the Bay Dun one and is Ares'. I'm sure they are both looking forward to summer, and to going to the beach with their new ponies. Even Ares would like that. He loves swimming!

YES I CAN TÖLT!
Ares isn't riding much these days. Actually he is not riding at all, which means that someone has to take his horse out for rides. Not that it has to be training as such, but a hack would do Bear (BOE Barmur) good. That's why I took Feline and I's youngest daugther Athena with me, when I gave Bear a workout.
Even if she loves the shetlandsponies, she is slowly getting too big for them, and it's rare that a hack at BOE is purely Icelandic, so she took her own horse Faxe (BOE Hrímfaxi) with her for this hack. As she hasn't learned to tölt on Faxe yet she just trotted beside me and Bear as we tölted.
Living in Denmark you learn to tölt before you trot. At least if you are riding Icelandic Horses. And I did that a lot when I was younger. Both as a child and as a teen. Actually before taking over BOE I dreamt of breeding these beautiful gaited horses. Maybe I will take myself up on that dream at some point. Though not right now, I have just bought some Cleveland Bays with the thoughts of trying to start up breeding those.
So we were out at this hack, and the weather was beautiful. The snow was lovely and not too deep, and the furry horses seemed to enjoy the hack a lot. I did too, and I'm sure Athena did as well. It's rare, with so many kids and horses, that I get much one on one time with the kids, so being with only Athena and the icelandics was a pleasure!

Later on the hack the sky got darker and darker, and the snow only heavier. I regretted not to have insisted on Athena wearing gloves, and I was freezing in my own. That girl is a walking heater though, and claimed she wasn't freezing at all. Silly girl.
We stopped and got a bypassing neighbor to take a few pictures of us. It's a lovely picture and I already treasure it. I'll probably hang up some of them at some point, if I can find a good place to get them printed.
It was such a fun hack, and it's a wonder that no one fell off their horses. Least of all me, as it has been years since I tölted last. Apparently the body never forgets!
