Quiet and rainy

I know I have been quiet for a while, but I have been busy with getting but the retired horses and the young horses into their new rutine. A new horse also landed here today. It's a new boarding horse named Hermés, and he is the son of Ysabel's mare BOE Prada. He is 4 years old, and now owned by Ysabel, who needed a new horse after Prada retired earlier this month.

He has been owned by her for about three months, but has been send to another training stable to be broken in, as Ysabel - with her back injury - couldn't do that herself safely.

But now he has arrived, and even if he is still young he is a good boy, and has the best intentions when ridden. Ysabel hopes to enter him in his first dressage show next month or the month after, we will see when precisely later on.

It was definitely hard for Ysabel to retire Prada, but buying her son gave Ysabel the light back in her eyes. She wants to possibly geld him in a few months, as he is still very stallion-y, but we will see, as she possibly want to offer him as stud, if he does well in competitions over the next year or so.

I hope to post more pictures tomorrow or so, as I have some big news to reveal!

SPRING HACK!

I'll present the new staff members better later, but this is just a short text and a picture of today's hack in the nature around the grounds of Dead End Ranch's facilities.

With us we have - from left to right - IVH Gone to Be Bright with his rider Teemu Ilves, DER Little Cloud with his rider Gabe Ryan, DER Koda with her rider Seraphina Malarc and at the far right end we have DER Pot O' Gold with his rider Anetta Baker.

As I said all the staffmembers will be introduced better another day, and all the horses but Koda are new too, but they will also be introduced another day. I can say though that Little Cloud aka. Claude is Gabe's own private horse, and the only gelding in our herd!

Train-ing Session with Balthazar the Norman Cob "I almost forgot what color the sky has..", Matthew mentioned while lighting up his cigarette, taking a little break, stretching, and grunting while slowly coming up with the plan for today. Katelyn, his girlfriend, was not a fan of him smoking but she would let him for the sake of "peace", she already figured out that Matthews's habits are hard to get rid of and it was way easier to sooth him into something if she would let him have his smoking breaks. "Caught you!", she jumpscared her boyfriend, who choked on the smoke and started coughing. "That's what you get!", she triumphed and stroked a victory pose. "Anyway ...", Katelyn cupped Matthews's face between her hands, locked gaze, and was about to say something when the taller man blew his remaining smoke into her face, making her immediately put more distance between the two of them. "No kisses?", he asked provocatively. Katelyn shook her head, crossed her arms in front of her chest, and imagined the best way to get revenge. "I will make sure you will feel today's dressage lesson in your sleep! - no mercy!", she said. Matthew hated dressage with a passion, always saying it's uncomfortable, the saddle isn't made to be ridden by men, and all that type of stuff.

A LITTLE ACCIDENT CAME FOR A VISIT

Today a special stallion arrived. He is not really trained a lot, and we understood just how little, when he arrived. He actually tipped Vigga over as soon as he had quickstepped out of the trailer, and then began in galop towards freedom.

Vigga fell on her back with a loud shout, and she hopefully didn't hurt herself too much. I couldn't help but bringing my hand to my face, while Thor laughed wholeheartedly beside me. What a wonderful way to begin the day!

Nobody really stepped up to help her, as K had already fled the scene. His real name is BOE Ladykiller, but he is far from a killer. He is just very energetic and loves to run, or so it seems. He was not fast enough for track though, so he went to us, so we can train him up for show jumping instead.

I guess it will be hard to teach him, when he is that energized, haha!

Oh well, when Vigga finally caught him, he was a lot calmer. He was actually handlable this time around, even if Caspian wasn't exactly excited to see him in the barn xD

He got the spot beside Caspian, but no matter how hard K tried to make friends with Caspian he didn't succeed with it. That gelding is just so stubborn! Good thing they can't actually reach eat other, or K might have been bitten.

We laughed a lot today, even though Vigga hurt her back. Not too badly though, but she will probably be sore tomorrow. Wooops!

WELCOME SOLVEI!

Please welcome Solvei to Patchwork Rescue Farm! Solvei is a small Icelandic mare, who is 4 years old and not broken in yet. Coming from Iceland she hasn't seen much else than her pasture in this life, so it was pretty big for her to arrive at Patchwork Rescue Farm, and see the GIANT horses we have (to Solvei everything above 145 cm is giants xD).

She is soft and easily spooked, though also pulls out her bravery when the other horses lets her know that something is okay. Here at Patchwork Rescue Farm she will be broken in, and then she can go to her forever home!

(What kind of horse would you like to see next? I am very open for suggestions!)

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING BLUE, SOMETHING NEW

Two new horses has arrived at Black Onyx Equestrian today! First one is our new boarder, which coincidently also is a woman from our staff, Nicolette Anderson. The new horse is her own private horse, recently bought from Patchwork Rescue Farm before it closed down. Her name is Solvei, and she is an Iceland Horse.

As the horse already know some of our other boarders (Old Man and PRF Patches) I predict it to be easy to make her a part of the boarding herd.

The other horse that has arrived is a still young gelding with the name of BOE Kismet's Keener. He is an offspring of ours from years ago. As Luna BlueLake couldn't keep him anymore due to downsizing - and she has been his owner since he was a foal - we accepted to take him back to our stable.

Sunny was the first one to meet him. She is also the gelding's mother. As they met they seemed to kinda recognize each other. I am looking forward to let our other Shetlandspony, Kaki Golden, into the pasture too. But even if he is the sire of Keener, he is so very spicy, and not easy to introduce to new pasture mates, so that will be a job for later.

NEW RIDER

Upkeep has just gotten a new rider. Please welcome Frederic Hanson aka. Freddy. He is from Norway, where this stable is located, and 22 years old. He is an experienced rider for his age, and Icelandic horses (and gaited horses in general) isn't new to him.

Actually when he arrived and I wanted him to show what he could do, he picked our newest horse Floki fra Ísdalur (by Samantha Strasser), and rode him to perfection!

"Let me see a tölt then!" I requested of the newest rider. I wanted to see what he could do on a horse, especially one who was new to the area too.

"Sure thing!" he replied, his tone light as he indeed showed off.

"Was that okay?" he asked, seeming a little unsure of himself, which he had no reason to be.

"It was very good!" I replied, and smiled at him, "Looking forward to see you and Floki in an actual show in the near future!"

At that he just laughed and smiled back proudly.

Before Maeve was a Grand Prix show jumper, she got her start with cobs. As a teenager, she owned Eunique Foxrock Round, or "Foxy", a sweet buckskin mare. Foxy and Maeve were staples on the local circuits, dabbling in all sorts of disciplines together.

Maeve and her dear friend Mallory West (@sycstud) were taking a walk down memory lane and uncovered this photo from Maeve's younger days with the much beloved Foxy.
