SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING BLUE, SOMETHING NEW

Two new horses has arrived at Black Onyx Equestrian today! First one is our new boarder, which coincidently also is a woman from our staff, Nicolette Anderson. The new horse is her own private horse, recently bought from Patchwork Rescue Farm before it closed down. Her name is Solvei, and she is an Iceland Horse.

As the horse already know some of our other boarders (Old Man and PRF Patches) I predict it to be easy to make her a part of the boarding herd.

The other horse that has arrived is a still young gelding with the name of BOE Kismet's Keener. He is an offspring of ours from years ago. As Luna BlueLake couldn't keep him anymore due to downsizing - and she has been his owner since he was a foal - we accepted to take him back to our stable.

Sunny was the first one to meet him. She is also the gelding's mother. As they met they seemed to kinda recognize each other. I am looking forward to let our other Shetlandspony, Kaki Golden, into the pasture too. But even if he is the sire of Keener, he is so very spicy, and not easy to introduce to new pasture mates, so that will be a job for later.

Preggo? Yes they are!

My four pregnant mares have gotten pretty fat. Not fat-fat though, it's just their baby bump!

I thought I had three pregnant mares, and then two who didn't get pregnant, but apparently Mexico Nightmare got pregnant anyways. She just didn't show any signs before she got HUGE!

So now we have three pregnant warmbloods, and a pregnant Shetlandspony mare. Which gives us a total of five pregnant mares, which is of course a lot of work. The Shetlandspony offspring is already sold. But the four other is for keeping for now.

Little Sundancer has also gotten quite fat from being pregnant. But that doesn't stop the little ball of energy from running around with her daughter (on the right) and her daughter's best friend.

A day has passed since I answered this, so obviously the answer is different now. It's sunny and warm so I've been listening to 'Teenage FBI' by Harrison Boe all day, it's a lot of fun and really good happy mood song.

Oh most likely 'Lion' by Saint Mesa. It's so epic. Also Prokofievs 'Dance of the knights' from the Romeo anf Juliet Ballet is sn excellent choice to slay some enemies, especially in s mind game slay way.

The song 'Daniel in the Den' always reminds me of Levi from aot and basically everything that happened to him snd continues to happen to him. I think it's a really powerful song for him.

38. A song that you think is underrated

So many, but I often find it difficult to say underrated for what purpose or in which circles. But I think 'Epiphany' by Taylor Swift is criminally underrated in comparison to the other folklore songs. I think it's so beautiful (it's also a great Sam/Jack song, if you ask me), so yeah I really like it.

Did anyone say Tipping Point?

Living in the south of Spain, there is no shortage of evidence that the climate is going bonkers. We are sliding towards a worst-case scenario of quickly rising temperatures. Every morning seems to bring warnings of heat waves and of dwindling water reserves. Every morning an inimical sun rises above the rooftops to the east, forcing me to quickly lower the blinds, close the windows and turn on the aircon. Then I read that it is not much better elsewhere in Europe's 'sunny south'.

Two small, anecdotal stories gleaned from the news makes me think humanity is not likely to pull out of the climate crisis intact.

The first story is about household appliances in Africa which I read about in Le Monde. The article dealt with the popularity of large, American-style refrigerators, the stainless steel models with opposing twin doors and a built-in dispenser of ice cubes. Needless to say they use a lot of power which is in short supply in many African countries. But ice dispensers, it would appear, are what people want - it makes sense in this unrelenting heat, doesn't it? And damn the consequences. In the grand picture of global energy waste, it is probably insignificant but it illustrates what the world is up against.

The second bit of evidence is graphic, a screenshot of worldwide air traffic on a recent day (above). It represents some 20,000 commercial flights in the air at the same time. With a few exceptions, like northern Siberia and Greenland, or the Tibetan Plateau, or the central Sahara, planes are criss crossing every inhabited continent. They never stop. And air travel is expected to keep growing fast as income rises in countries like India. Right now, Airbus and Boeing are struggling to keep up with an avalanche of orders for new planes.

I can observe this happening close to home. At the beginning of the summer season, the airport of Málaga, in essence a regional airport rather than a hub, registered 545 flights in a single day. The vast majority were  being operated with Airbus 320 or Boeing 737 planes. As each aircraft carries some 200 people, that adds up to about 100,000 arrivals and departures in a single day. Very few of those visitors have a reason for coming to Málaga other than leisure. Many come to party and get drunk on beer that is still cheaper than in Copenhagen, Manchester or Vienna.

Clearly, there is still disposable income out there, or credit. And limited concern about the climate, unless people have somehow internalized the inevitable and just want to go out in a blaze of happy hedonism.

I do not wish to add to the current obsession with ‘frivolous�� air travel when other, less visible activities contribute in equal measure to global warming, beginning with the data centres and server farms that bring us billions of useless videos and messages all day.

The list of unreformed greenhouse gas emitters is endless, from cruise travel to container shipping to IKEA, or Tesla, or the construction industry, or industrial farming and fishing, they are all taking us over the edge.

I guess someone could generate a world map of people shopping at IKEA at any given time, or sending TikTok videos. It would balance the map of the evil air traffic. But I am not sure it would make us think harder, or act differently.

Dependence on Oi; in the World, Russia, Saudi Arabia, OPEC, World Energy Competition and Price Stabalization, Planting Democracy, Influencing Cutures Within to Create change

Right now, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) is working with Putin to wreak havoc in the global oil markets, using fossil energies as a weapon to make up for what little brains, shorty Putin has. It’s just the latest reminder that Saudi Arabia is NOT a U.S. ally, but driven by money and profit like anything else in geopolitical economics.

We need to think economically and not ideologically about the problem. Unclog the pipes! Russia needs high oil and natural gas prices to fund it world endeavors for power.

Iran. Either we overthrow the government, like we did with Radio Free Europe using the Internet with Musk's Starlink free Internet or find a way to get the Internet to all around the world to feed freedom and democracy in keeping people informed, for the flow of information is power.

On the other hand, scenario, if Saudi Arabis and Iran got into a war with each other, one being Shiite and the other Sunni, and by the way, Russia has airbases in Iran, most of our troops are in Qatar if a war was to break out between them, Saude Arabia would need our weapons systems, I,e oil sales to feed the war machine, Iran in the same aspect, weapons sales, and cheaper oil and natural gas sale. Now destruction on both sides of energy facilities could raise prices on energy, and it would benefit Russia in taking those two out of competition with all in the market. All in all, diplomacy must be engaged through negotiations and diplomacy to divert the problem

The addiction to oil in the world is destroying world economic output, high inflation, and high-interest rates. We in the world must do all we can to divert from fossil fuels, but in saying that it can't be done cold turkey. We must look at energy from not just one angle. Some ideas

1. Quit stirring up a stink with other countries as far as affecting the free flow of energy because of some ethics we don't believe into punish other countries with sanctions. Find a middle ground in diplomacy, and negotiations, creating a peaceful flow of products and services throughout the world.

2. Take away all subsidies to any energy sector, creating competition, and letting supply and demand, through worldwide free trade also letting the worldwide consumer decide on which energy sources are better through price and competition in the markets.

3. Drilling more mining, more forms of energy production in America, as a backup for geopolitical problems that affect prices at home.

As you can see, the most viable energy commodities here are solar and coal, screw the environmental greenies, the point being here is supply, demand, and price for the product and the abundance of. Manipulating energy markets through geopolitical competitions in trying to manipulate prices such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, and OPEC is the problem, should not as a consumer know what is better in use through price.

Here’s what went down: Putin asked the Saudi government to cut oil production by one million barrels a day in order to keep oil prices high. MBS not only agreed, but he also did Putin the favor twice over – pushing OPEC+ to cut production by two million barrels a day.

Simply put, MbS and Putin joined hands to squeeze the global oil markets. It’s a move that leaves millions of Europeans out in the cold and raises prices on just about everything for all of us everywhere else. And Putin, who continues to wage a brutal war in Ukraine, stands to benefit the most.

We need a wholesale reimagining of our foreign policy, and one way we can kick-start it today is by ending our reliance on a broken alliance with the Saudi government to produce as much energy at home. even in the export sense, fracking, more lease in governmental lands for drilling and mining, more offshore drilling, even further out. It’s time to take back that leverage they think they have. MbS’s latest actions have sparked outrage across Congress and in the White House. And that means we’ve got a chance to turn the tides on this broken status quo. So keep in mind your economic stability and not your ideological beliefs when you vote.

Right now, there are no less than THREE ways Congress can immediately push back and rethink the U.S.-Saudi relationship: block weapons sales and security assistance to Saudi Arabia, break U.S. dependence on Saudi oil, and get U.S. troops out of Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Any ONE of these could shift the tides on a foreign policy that looks the other way as MbS violates human rights and wages war in Yemen, and luckily they’re ALL in play. By the way, Yemen is not about human rights, its about it being a shipping choking point in the world.

The United States has relied on a broken relationship with Saudi Arabia that has lasted across 15 presidents and seven kings, because the dollar was taken off the gold standard, and pegged to oil in protecting Saudi oil, in 1973.  As long as this dependence continues, the United States remains woefully vulnerable to the whims of authoritarians like MbS and Putin. It's time for a change

We must oust Putin, and Xi, finish the job with the Cold War, which never ended and just took a break. and overthrow or eradicate any type of authoritarian rule, extremist and fanatical ideologies, oligarchies, and monopolization in the world. Planting democracy, freedoms, free flight of information, and free trade around the world. For freedom and freedom in the markets are the biggest creators of wealth in the world.

TIME FOR RETIREMENT!

Quite a few of our horses has been retired from shows this month, staring with BOE Mexico Nightmare. This prima Oldenburg mare has been doing quite well in Show Jumping, and also fine in Dressage too. With 42 points in Show Jumping T-Shows. 43 points in Show Jumping, 48 points in Dressage and 65 points in Sportshorse in R-Shows - she has definitely earned her retirement!

The best children's pony in the world has also reached retirement age! BOE Sunny Day aka. Sunny has been the first pony for almost all of our children, and has taught them to ride and love horses. She has been competing in Pony (181 points), Pony Show Jumping (186 points) and Driving (190 points) with the kids, and has had a lot of fun!

With her she takes the titles of The Golden Pony, Nuage and Tandem Champion.

Opaline HF aka. Libby has also earned her retirement! With an overall of 383 points in R-Shows you can say she has done really good. She has competed in Sportshorse (146 points), Show Jumping (142 points) and Dressage (95 points), giving a total of 8 bonus points off to her offsprings!

She has done a lot of good in her time as a show horse (with titles of Supreme Champion, Volant and L'Étoile), and will hopefully enjoy her retirement. Thank you for selling her to us Ian Salvatore!

RRS Caspian has been a personal favorite of mine for sooo long! He has done a lot of good with an overall score of 451 points across disciplines such as Sportshorse (132 points), Show Jumping (172 points) and Dressage (147 points). He has earned the titles of Supreme Champion, Nuage and Danzatore through his career as a show horse.

BOE Rolly Joger aka. Sandokan has been a good boy, definitely deserving his retirement at 403 points across the disciplines. Seeing him compete in Show Jumping (151 points) with Narcisa Foremann has been one of the biggest pleasures in my life. He definitely takes after his sire BOE Sailor Moon, and has done a great job at every show!

Dressage (137 points) wasn't what he enjoyed the most, but he did well there too along with the halter shows for Sportshorses (115 points).

Retirering GE Rosebank was harder than I had thought possible. She is such a good mare, her rider Vigga Hertz can only agree with that, and we are happy to now have an offspring of hers, who can take over after her.

Whether in Sportshorse (181 points), Show Jumping (146 points) or Dressage (170 points) she always did her best. She is such a prima mare of the Hanoverians, and we will probably never get a mare like her again.

BOE Ladykiller shouldn't have been retired this early. Shouldn't have been dead either. Yet he hurt himself so badly at a show that he had to be put down.

He earned himself a few points throughout his lifetime: Turkoman (41 points), Show Jumping (57 points) and Dressage (52 points) - and will give his skills to his sons in hopes that they will remember him, and have the same skill as him in shows.

That was all the horses retired this month!

New Beginnings

The following day I got my long awaited promotion: a generous rise and from now on only international routes for me. I made it to the big league. A few days later I packed my stuff and crashed at a colleague's place: thank God, I made good friends among my former crew members and Joanna kindly agreed to host me while I looked for a new place to stay. I still remember the thrill that coursed through my veins as I boarded my first gigantic Boeing 712, destination Tahiti. "Wow, romantic" she notes. I chuckle, finishing off my cigarette. "Paris is romantic only if you have a lover to stroll down the Seine with. I'm just a stewardess" I claim and well, it's true: the City of Love is not as romantic without a plus one, even if the girls and I had fun during our land off there, shopping, exploring and dining in lovely bistrot. "I thought you had a companion for your dreamy walk down the river" she shrugs, gesturing to the conspicuous teddybear in beret and striped shirt quietly sitting on a chair at my side. "Oh no, Monsieur Ted and I met in Montmarte. It was a...coup de foudre!" I comment, keeping my face straight long enough to make us both burst into another round of laughters. "It's a gift." I explain. "My best friend has a little girl, it's a gift for her. It's her birthday soon and I promised to be there, I'm sort of an aunt to her. I can't go empty handed and this guy looked nice" Nicole's face softens imperceptibly. "I'm sure she'll love it. I mean, I would have given everything to get a French teddy from my fancy aunt who flies around the world every day" I smile at the compliment. Was it a compliment? I like to think so. "How long have you been working here? I've been based here for a while but I'm afraid I don't remember you" I inquiry, hoping not to offend her. She exhales smoke and gestures it's nothing. "You flight crews are always in a hurry, we don't take it personally" Her lips quickly curl into a shy smile. "It's been a year. Well, it will be a year in a month" she explains. "It's not much but it's an honest job and just what I was looking for. The boss is fair enough and it helps paying the nurse school tuition" "Wanna be a nurse?" "Yeah, I've spent too much time with grandma during my childhood" she chuckles but the hint of a smile suggests she remembers that time quite fondly. "She worked as a nurse during the war and she used to tell me stories of back then...I'm not sure I was supposed to hear all of them but she kept talking. So I ended up being of those weird little girls who had a doll hospital in her bedroom and sew broken teddy bears to cure them. Nurse school sounded like the most logical choice" "That's sweet" I consider. "Why not a doctor though?" "Ah, I'm not sure about it...maybe in the future but I will be happy enough as a nurse, I think" I smile at her earnest answer as she continues nonchalantly. "Just like I'm quite happy now to see flight crews come and go and memorise their order-" "Oh, what's my usual order then?" I tease her. She takes a pause as if I caught her cheating then she guesses right: long black, no sugar, just a drop of milk. I tell her I wish I had her memory when I serve on board. "I'm sure you're doing just fine up there" she smiles encouragely. "And even when I'm not, a nice pair of legs and a charming smile will do the trick, won't they?" I sigh: I might not be too fond of certain looks I receive but that's how things go, I guess. At least, they saved me from getting complaints; on the contrary, on my first flight my supervisor was pleasantly impressed by my "impeccable manners and overall look" as she wrote down on my report. Kelsey opens the mouth to speak again - by the look on her face probably that she didn't mean it like that - but I anticipate her. It's how things go, she must know it too. When I worked at the diner, the costumers refrained from assessing me those looks or pinch me because they had too much respect for my parents. I immediately wondered if I said something wrong, I'm so used to uncomfortable silence filled with unsaid accusations and complaints that I tense up. But I soon realize that...it's okay. I did nothing wrong, she's silently agreeing with me and maybe pondering what to say next. A look filled with shy curiosity is on her face when she finally speaks again. "Can I ask you something?" "Shoot" She takes a pause as if she's still translating her own thought into words or wondering if she's not crossing a line with her curiosity. "Do you ever get homesick travelling all the time?" That's...not what I was expecting but after all, what was I expecting? Not sure how I can answer that. "Odd question to ask a stewardess" I note, rising my eyebrow and taking time. "I mean, you're always somewhere else, in between places and time zones...one might feels a bit homesick, lost maybe..." Then she shakes her head and falling back to her chair. "I'm sorry I'm just being nosey, that was a silly-" "No, it's an interesting question. I've never given that much thought... I don't know, I've never felt that way, I felt free when I boarded my first plane. I still do when I'm up there in the sky. I think most of us feel that thrill but it's just my point of view. My best friend once argued that mine is not real freedom just a - how did she call it? - oh yes, a strategic retreat so..." I chuckle, reminiscing the conversation Nancy and I had in the kitchen as I helped her with the dishes. The 'concerned sister' look she gave me, handing me a wet dish to dry. 'I'm not saying it's wrong or judging you, Sadie...I have no doubt you're living the exciting life you've always dreamed, God that every girl now dream. But you can't run away forever...' She gives me an apologetic look before searching her pockets. "Well, while you keep looking and flying around the world, at least know that you're always welcome here" She lays a couple of cafe vouchers on the table; then she takes her leave with a gracious smile. "Sadie, Monsieur Ted...it's been a pleasure" "Likewise, Kelsey" I say, waving the teddybear arm. I should probably go home and get some rest: I wasn't joking when I said it's been a long day. I collect my vouchers, pay leaving a generous tip and head to the parking lot. When I wake up in my bed, it's getting dark outside. I brew the third coffee of the day and unpack my bag. As I collect my uniform for the laundry, the vouchers slip off the pocket I secured them into. I make to pick them up when I notice something handwritten behind one of them. I look carefully and it's a phone number with a little airplane doddle to the side. Call me ~ Kelsey
