Italy Bike Sharing Market: Forthcoming Trends and Share Analysis by 2030
Tumblr media
Italy Bike Sharing is Expected to Grow at a Significant Growth Rate, and the Forecast Period is 2023-2030, Considering the Base Year as 2022.
Bike sharing has gained popularity throughout the nation as an eco-friendly and practical mode of transportation, especially in cities and popular tourist spots. The market was distinguished by a wide variety of domestic and foreign bike-sharing companies that offered consumers a range of choices for recreational and short-distance riding.
Recognizing the health and environmental benefits of riding, the Italian government and local municipalities actively backed programs aimed at implementing bike sharing. Bike-sharing companies were given subsidies and incentives to grow their businesses and upgrade their facilities.
Bike-sharing became popular because it was easily integrated with the current public transportation networks, enabling consumers to combine cycling with buses and trains for effective multi-modal travel.
Adoption of e-bikes was also increasing since they offered a practical and accessible means of traveling greater distances and across difficult terrain. In addition to serving locals, Italy's bike-sharing industry attracted both domestic and foreign visitors by providing them with an entertaining and environmentally responsible means of touring the country's most famous sites and cultural attractions.
Notwithstanding the market's encouraging expansion, there were obstacles to overcome, such as the requirement for ongoing infrastructure investment in the bike-sharing sector, the need to deal with bike theft and vandalism, and the need to navigate local laws and parking limitations.

5 Essentials that you need to look for in a pet-friendly hotel
While travelling has pros and cons, it is better to know certain things beforehand if you have your furry friend on board. Many pet parents endure tough times handling their pets in temporary shelters or with acquaintances. Either there are just dog hotels or cat hotels. It is seldom that the location that they are planning to explore has got all the pet-care facilities for your four-legged family member. We have hence got a list of 5 essentials that the best pet friendly hotels in Bahrain have. Read on…
Food and accommodation: A pet-friendly hotel must have a suitable bed and proper food for every kind of dog or cat that you are travelling with. When cosying in your bed with your loved ones, a comfortable bed and the right food for your four-legged family member should relieve you. The hotel must have various options considering the allergens and adaptation to the new location.
Activities: Imagine you are exploring different destinations and tourist spots across any city, and the worry of keeping your pet engaged is bothering you. Well, a pet-friendly hotel must have appropriate activities for your pet to pass the entire day by itself. OR while you have your private dinner, your pet must have some or the other attendant. Ensure and double-check with the hotel staff about this facility.
Restrictions: Not all hotel staff members would be trained to look after your pet. Then, there can be areas of the hotel where pets won’t be allowed. Understand that your pet must also be new to the place and is in the process of adapting to the new facilities. Meanwhile, comfort them with areas dedicated to solely your pet. Ask the reception desk whether the housekeeping staff have the proper training to cater to dogs and cats separately.
Hotel policies: Even though the hotel is pet-friendly, there might be certain restrictions, and not all rooms would be pet-friendly. The hotel might have a few regulations to accommodate all the guests who may or may not be pet-friendly. Ensure you are aware of these instructions and comply with them for a hassle-free experience. Then there can be instances wherein the hotel might not have updated their policies on one of the sites online. Try to be in touch with them to clarify all your doubts beforehand.
Extra Fees: An additional fee can be there for your pet-friendly services. Yes, not all hotels adjust the living prices in your single bill. They might levy some amount atop the prices for regular accommodation and food for you. So double-check the costs, which might be per pet per night or just per pet, inclusive of pet-friendly services. They might also have some refundable or non-refundable cleaning costs. Understand all the commercials clearly.
These are a few essentials to look for while you travel with your four-legged family member. A lot of double-checks can ensure your travel smoothly. However, you need to respect the rules and privacy of other guests in the hotel too. Even if there are systems in place, ensure to take good care of your pet.
Happy Holidays!

Tumblr media
series masterlist | main masterlist
Salou, Spain
"You're what?" Lando almost screams over the phone. Carlos had it propped up in the cup holder of his Ferrari.
"I'm going to meet her, in Salou." Carlos says, almost too calmly.
"And spend a night there?!"
"She offered! How could I say no? Besides it's her family home, and we'll be in separate rooms." He defends himself.
Lando laughs, “More like you didn't want to say no."
Lando wasn't wrong, Carlos wanted to spend time with Sofía. He was in fact, dying to spend time with her after that cringe fest in Bahrain. But what he didn't expect was a day trip turning into a two-day trip with someone he had barely met.
Was he going to complain though? Of course not. He was going to spend a night with an amazing woman, and no idiot would pass up on that opportunity.
-
Salou was more beautiful than he remembered. The sun was shining down, the beach lined with tourists and locals enjoying the weather and atmosphere. He's walking to the spot they were supposed to meet at, and he sees her, sitting on a bench under a beach umbrella. She looks up at the same time, waving excitedly to him.
"Carlitos! Over here!"
He makes his way towards her, a fresh set of nerves creeping up his spine.
"I ordered us a sweet lime slushy, hope you don't mind." She tells him when he sits down.
“Sounds good to me.”
"How was the drive up?" Sofía cringes at her small talk, but she couldn't help it, she was nervous too. Spending time one on one with the opposite gender was not something she was used to. Between races, travelling and training, Sofía barely went out over the last few years, let alone dated anyone. Wait- was this a date?
"It was fine, good weather to be out here." Carlos replies, snapping her out of her own thoughts.
"Have you been here before?" She asks.
"I've been here once or twice." He tells her. Sofía claps her hands together, a wave of excitement rushing over.
"Ahhh I will show you around then! I spent most of my childhood summers here, pretty cool to be by the coast."
The server walks over with both their drinks, and the awkwardness and nerves seem to die down once they inhaled their slushies. They walk down the strip at the pier to a cafe Sofía had picked out.
It was a busy spot - filled mostly with locals. Everyone seemed to be busy - bussing tables, taking orders. But the moment Sofía entered, the elderly lady at the cashier stood up immediately.
"Mija! Bienvenido de nuevo," the older lady hugs her, "este tu novio?" Is this your boyfriend?
Sofia’s cheeks turn bright red, but she tries to play it cool, “No, tía. Este es mi amigo, Carlos."
"Ahhh amigo eh?" She raises her brow at her, then Carlos.
Carlos laughs awkwardly, “Sí, encantada de conocerte, señora."
The older lady smiles and nods, then leads the pair to a table overlooking the sea.
A waitress walks over with two glasses of water, "The usual?" She nods, looking at Carlos, “let’s make it two, one for him as well."
“What did you order?” He asks.
“You’ll see”
A couple of moments later, a plate of pasta - el carbonara to be exact, turned up at the table.
"I know it doesn't look like much-" Sofía starts, but Carlos already has a fork in his hand, twirling the pasta.
“Oh my god," he moans, "this is so good."
Sofía laughs at his actions, starting to dig in to the pasta as well.
"This is my cheat day meal. I come here after a hard race, and pretty much stuff my face in carbonara."
Carlos, with a mouthful of pasta, tells her, "I can see why, this is so good."
-
“So he used dishwashing soap?!” Carlos almost doubles over in laughter while Sofía talks next to him.
“Yeah! I left them both home for a week, and I come home to George’s clothes shrunk down to the size of a child, and Alex’s smelling like dish soap.”
She wipes a laughing tear from her face, recounting the stories of staying with George and Alex during their early days in motorsport. They both get rid of the ice cream cups they were holding, walking side-by-side along the pavement. Their arms are brushing, and Carlos can’t help but get nervous. Her touch causing goosebumps to rise on his skin. He decides to make a bold move - wrapping his arm around her shoulder. Sofía almost jumps at the contact, her nerves getting the best of her, but then she turns to look at him - then grins and leans into him as they walk to their cars.
“I’ll drive to the house, you can follow me; but I’ll give you the address, just in case I drive a little faster.” She winks at him. Carlos laughs, “we’ll see about that.”
There’s a sort of playfulness to Sofía, the way she flirts but paired it so well with humour. And Carlos loved every moment of it.
She touches his forearm, and he prays she can’t see the goosebumps rise, “I’m kidding, drive safe. See you at the house.”
-
The house was extremely beautiful, nothing compared to what he was expecting. It was sat right on top of a cliff, overlooking the sea. And it had to at least cover an acre of land. Carlos parks right behind Sofía in the driveway, and they make their way into the house through the grand doors.
“Welcome home, for the night.” She winks at him. She takes him through the house, first to the room he would be staying in.
“This is yours, I’m right down the corridor. I’ll let you get settled in then we can take a tour of the house and decide what to cook for dinner?”
“Sounds good to me.”
Carlos makes his way to the kitchen a couple of minutes later after changing into something more comfortable, and Sofía was already there, head deep inside the refrigerator. She turns when she hears him, holding out some pizza doughs and ingredients.
“Pizza night?”
A grin forms on Carlos’ face, “pizza night.”
-
The laughter felt like a constant tape that was rolling throughout the entire night. After the grand tour - which included the movie theatre, fully equipped gym, simulator and swimming pool, they head back to the kitchen.
Music was playing through the speakers as they stood by the kitchen island, rolling out pizza dough and decorating their creations. Carlos helps to put the pizzas into the oven, with Sofía sitting on top of the kitchen counter. They were talking, when ABBA starts to play over the speakers.
"Oooh I love this one!" Sofía jumps off the counter, belting out the lyrics like a pro while Carlos stood laughing. He had his phone out to record her, but only for a couple of seconds before she held her hand out to him.
"C'mon, dance with me!" He willingly held her hand, and they tried to dance. Swaying wildly from left to right, their chests pressed close to one another as time went on. Sofía had her head thrown back in laughter, Carlos' hands resting on her lower back.
The song ends and just like a cliche movie scene, it goes to a slow love song. 'I can't help falling in love' - to be exact. Sofía chuckles nervously, hoping to pull away to avoid any embarrassment, but Carlos keeps her close to him, his hands resting on her waist.
Smooth operator, she thought.
This was his moment, he knew it, this was the moment to kiss-
And the timer for the pizza rang.
Sofía couldn't help but laugh as she steps away, and Carlos rubs his neck a slightly embarrassed smile on his face.
"Guess this wasn't the time." She smiles playfully, pulling out the trays.
"Yeah, yeah." Carlos mumbles, helping to plate them.
-
Saudi Arabia, race day
"And Sofía that's P10, P10."
"What the fuck was that?!" She screams. No doubt this will be broadcasted to the world to hear for her debut in formula one, but she could not care less. She has never finished a race lower than P8 in her life, and this double digit was sending her into a frenzy.
"Sorry about that, Sof. We will speak about it later." Bono tells her over the radio. She clicks the button off, drowning in the roar of the car's engine as she ran the cool down lap. She pulls into parc ferme, looking over to see that Ferrari and Red Bull had snagged the podium.
Her head is down as she's forced to the media pen - full of vultures that were ready to pick her apart. It had become a thing for her, she realised, dreading every single media interaction she's ever had since she stepped foot into this world. But what could she do?
Bite down on the bullet and carry on.
"Sofía Calero, first points of your rookie season and in the first race as well. Not easy considering the circumstances of the car, but you pushed through. How do you feel?" The interviewer asks. Her media assistant had the recorder in front of her, and Sofía takes in a deep breath.
"Well, it was an experience being in a Formula One race officially; But I'm not going to lie, I was hoping for more than that, so we're going to improve from here and take steps forwards."
Short and sweet, well rehearsed. Sofía thanks the interviewer before going down the lines to answer similar questions. She drags herself through them, then pushes herself through the paddock to the motorhome, getting ready for a long night of debriefs.
The engineering room is already filled with people by the time she gets there, and George shoots her an apologetic look. She shakes her head, taking the opposite seat from him.
-
"It was a good run considering it's your very first race, Sof." George tells her as they make their way downstairs after the meeting.
"I know, but it's just- I can't fight for the WDC at P10 can I? I can't prove that I deserve my spot-"
"Hey, we've been through this before-"
She repeats the line he's been telling her ever since she received news about her contract, "I know, George. I don't have to prove to anyone that I deserve this spot."
He smiles at her sympathetically, "exactly that." They stop at the landing of their driver's room, and George gives her a hug.
"Do you want to ride back together?" He asks.
"Sure, let me get my stuff and we can head out in fifteen?"
"Sounds good, I'll see you downstairs."
-
As they both leave the track, George had his arm around Sofía's shoulder, the both of them talking about plans for the upcoming weeks. This had become sort of a routine for them as they grew even closer as teammates.
"I'm probably heading home to see my family then head to Brackley...”
"Hmm I'll probably get in to Barcelona-"
"George! Sofía!" A voice shouts from behind.
They both turn to see Carlos and Charles walking over to them. Sofía waves enthusiastically, going over to hug both podium sitters. She realises she hadn’t congratulated Carlos, hadn’t even thought about him once this entire time after her disastrous P10 debut. But when he emerged in front of her, the scene from pizza night replayed in her mind. That almost kiss.
“Congratulations, cariño.” She hugs him right.
They hug for a second longer than they should, and there’s an evident grin on Carlos’ face as they pull way. They both hadn't forgotten about that night.
“Congrats to the both of you." George says, bringing the both of them back to reality.
"You're not too shabby yourself," Charles tells him, "and you... Miss Calero! Points on your debut, look at you go."
The expression on her face tells Charles otherwise.
"I wish I could've been top 5."
Sofía thinks out loud. And Carlos sees the hint of disappointment in her eyes. Then it all clicks for him, the reason she looked so down during those post-race interviews, the reason why he hadn't seen her lurking around after the race - was because of this. They all nods understandingly, having been in her position countless of times; and oh how Carlos wishes he could hug her again, but he holds himself back.
"Oh c'mon kiddo, don't be too hard on yourself, you'll get there in a couple of races." Charles repeats to her what he had been told a million times in his rookie days.
Carlos wants to add on, but the words seem to be stuck in his throat as George slings his arms back around Sofia's shoulders.
"We better get going, have a good time celebrating!" George tells them. And somehow or rather, the congratulatory words leave a bad taste in Carlos' mouth.
Had that almost kiss mean nothing to her? Was she like this with other drivers?
Carlos and Charles make their way to the Ferrari garage, when Carlos just stops in his tracks. He's thought twice about asking, but the nagging thought in his head about Sofía being with someone else is somehow killing him inside.
“Mate, what are you doing?” Charles scolds.
"Were they ever a thing?" Carlos asks. Charles walks back to Carlos, a confused look on his face.
"Who?"
"You know, them-"
”Sofía and George? Of course not, why are you-“ then it clicks for Charles - the grinning from ear to ear, the hug, “do you have a crush on Sof?"
“I-, no it’s just that during that trip-“ Carlos blurts out.
"You went on a trip with her?!"
"It was one night, Charles please keep it down."
"Sorry sorry. But where did you go?" They keep walking, lowering their voices to avoid any prying ears.
"We were both home, so she suggested we meet in Salou, and we spent two days together."
"And?"
"Nothing happened during the trip." Charles gives him a knowing look,
"Okay.. we almost kissed."
A shit eating grin forms on Charles face as they arrive at the motorhome,
"I'm gonna tell Lando."

How to Fit Two Weeks' Worth of Clothes in a Carry-On and Other Travel Tips

How to Fit Two Weeks' Worth of Clothes in a Carry-On and Other Travel Tips
Jessica Nabongo was born and raised in Detroit after her parents immigrated from Uganda. Since then, she has lived everywhere, from Japan to rural Benin, charting her travels in her blog, Catch Me If You Can.
Nabongo turned her passion into a business when she started Jet Black, a boutique travel company that focuses on encouraging tourism to throughout the African diaspora—Africa, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. But she isn’t desk-bound, despite her clients’ demands; working remotely, so far she’s logged 75 countries and counting of the world’s 195.
Nabongo visits a leather tannery in Marrakech.
Photographer: Elton Anderson
Nabongo’s airline of choice? Delta. “I usually do 120,000 [miles] per year, but this year, as of last week, I’m already at 90,000, so I’m going to do closer to 250,000 [in 2017].”
Don’t trust the photos on a hotel’s website when you can do this instead.
I use the geotag feature on Instagram—it’s my new method of checking out hotels. You find a hotel that has four or five stars, and you’re looking at the pictures on the website thinking, This is amazing. But I want to see what [guests] are posting there. When I was looking for hotels in Zanzibar, for instance, many of [the geotagged photos] didn’t look like their pictures on their websites at all. People had geotagged them, and I could see it wasn’t a very nice beach.
Checking on the geotagged Instagram photos from the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti in Tanzania will tell you what it really looks like.
Photographer: Andre Perry
You can always avoid checking your carry-on, even on a full flight.
On a recent trip I traveled between Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Djibouti, Qatar, and Bahrain with my handy-dandy Away bag. I love the way it rolls and charges my devices [with a built-in battery]. Depending on the region of the world you are in, [airlines] can be pretty strict about the weight of your carry-on bag, often asking to weigh it. Generally the maximum is 14 kilograms, or 30 pounds, which somehow for me is never enough. So when I approach the counter and they say I have to weigh my carry-on, and I know it’s too heavy, I say, “Actually, it’s camera equipment, so I can’t check it.” Airlines don’t want liability for electronic equipment. It works every time, even if they tell you to check it at the gate. And it is  true, as I have a camera and a lens in there. It’s just the  isn’t camera equipment.
How to fit two weeks’ worth of clothing in a carry-on.
The first thing I do before packing is write down a list of where I’m going, and I put in the climate as far out as I can tell [from weather reports]. I count up the number of days and count out my underwear to make sure I have enough. Then I lay out all my bottoms and my tops, then use Flight 001 spacepaks for them. They are absolutely the best thing on the market. I’ve tested them, trying to pack without them, and it doesn’t work. Using them, though, I can usually get two weeks’ worth of clothes to fit in a carry-on bag. I recommend the number 2, 3, and 4 models. And I use a long wallet from Flight 001’s T5 collection to keep my boarding passes and my passport together.
Nabongo says the best thing about Bali is that "every city is different. Ubud is all about relaxation and being one with nature. The energy is serene and calm, yet so very alive."
Photographer: Elton Anderson
A two-point plan for scoring the best flight deals every time.
Every morning I read flight deals like they’re my I check The Flight Deal, Secret Flying, and Airfare Spot. If there’s a place I haven’t been, I allow them to dictate where I travel next—like when I went to Bali, because I found a ticket for $450 from L.A. And Chase Sapphire Reserve is the best thing that’s ever happened to me; it blows the American Express Platinum card out of the water for anyone who calls himself a real traveler. It comes with a membership for Priority Pass, which is at over 1,000 lounges around the world. Sometimes, when I fly a small regional airline, it’s given me access to lounges in places like Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. And the rewards system is insane. I have not paid for a plane ticket in four and a half months because of Chase. The annual fee is $450 per year, but you get a $300 travel credit every year, so if you charge a flight from New York to L.A? Boom! You get a $300 credit, so now the annual fee is really only $150.
"When in Kampala, be sure to stop at National Theatre in the city center," Nabongo says. "It's my favorite place in East Africa for shopping. Visit my aunt in stall 14!"
Photographer: Sarah Waiswa
Where to shop in Africa.
I am obsessed with the National Theatre in Uganda [which also features local artists’ work], because your money goes so much further with the exchange rate of the Ugandan shilling to the dollar. If you’re going to Kenya, I highly recommend stopping in to Kampala on the way and going there: The craftsmanship is amazing, on everything from bags to serving utensils. I love walking around a city [in America] with one of the bags, which are practical and fashionable.
Embrace the rain—for the right reasons.
I always recommend traveling at the end of the rainy season. I’ve done this in East Africa, the South Pacific, and Southeast Asia. I just Google “rainy season” plus whatever country to find out. Most recently, on that trip to Bali, I went toward the end of the rainy season. The lodging is cheaper—I’d estimate around 30 percent cheaper, on average—and I love taking pictures without other people in them! I got lucky, as I spent two and a half weeks in Bali, and it rained the day I arrived but never again. And I always travel with this footwear: little hunter green ankle booties from J.Crew, which are easier to walk in [than knee-high Wellington boots], take up less room in your case, and are really cute. And I have a pair of bright yellow rubber Chuck Taylors, which are waterproof.
Take that, St. Barts or Ibiza. The best island you’ve never heard of? It’s in Africa.
Nabongo says Lamu Island is one of Kenya's best-kept secrets. "There is a lot of local tourism to the island, but most outside visitors travel to Mombasa and Diani. The food in Lamu is incredible, the people are super nice, and the sunset dhow boat rides can't be beat."
Photographer: James Anthony
Lamu is a quaint, quiet island off the coast of Kenya, which all my Kenyan friends told me about. It’s a short flight from Malindi, where most tourists go, and like much of the East African coast, it’s largely Muslim. I went during Ramadan, so it was extra quiet, very calm and peaceful. We stayed at Forodhani House, which is really good for a family or a group of friends. But if you want more of a hotel, try Majlis. The architecture and culture of the island is a mash-up of Swahili and Arabic influences. Like Zanzibar, it’s a spice island, dating back to the old trade between the Arabian Peninsula and India. So the best part of a trip there is the food—the best samosas I’ve ever tasted, and I grew up in a home eating a ton of Indian food, with a Ugandan mother who makes samosas. I already told her, “Mommy, you’ve got to rethink your recipe.”
How to chop onions without crying, wherever you are in the world.
When I graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, I spent an extended stay in Benin, working with a small Italian NGO. We were living about 250 kilometers from [the largest city] Cotonou, in one of the world’s poorest countries, so you can imagine what life was like. We lived with some nuns in a convent, because there was a cave nearby where people came for pilgrimage. The convent was the only place in that area with electricity and running water, but not hot water. One time, when I was cooking my own meal, I was struggling with chopping onions, and my eyes began to water. One sister, from Nigeria, handed me a matchstick and told me to put it between my teeth, flammable side out, and it would prevent my eyes from watering while cutting onions. To this day, I always put a match in my mouth when cutting onions, and it works like a charm.

What does Covid-19 have to do with travel? Due to the widespread pandemic that has been termed Covid-19, many industries are suffering losses because of government’s decisions to enforce lockdowns, as well as other movement restriction orders. This contagious infection means people can no longer travel to work freely, and the transport of non-essential goods are becoming more and more confined. One of the most obvious – and hardest – markets to be hit is that for travel and tourism. Cancelled flights and movement restrictions coinciding with what would be peak summer breaks and vacation plans is a major loss. But what would this industry look like after it’s all over?
There have also been some theories as to what the kind of demand will look like, with one end of the spectrum thinking of an empowered people, who have learnt to live without the simple pleasures of travel, and the other end that sees a population starved of this pleasure, just waiting to get back out again. It seems as though the reality sits closer to the latter end, however, we see no problem with this: it would only mean new demand for what was once a commonplace commodity. Tom Marchant, one of the founders of the luxury travel operator Black Tomato, speaks his opinion – “After weeks and perhaps months staying home, this longing for authentic human connection and togetherness will be stronger than ever… But there will be less of a cookie-cutter travel mentality”. Which then brings forth the question, how far away from this cookie-cutter tree will the fruits of a post-Covid industry fall? Jannik Lawaetz, LuggageHero’s CEO, also agrees that this demand is going to come back stronger than ever – with experts in the industry particularly hopeful, it leaves no doubt as to the industry’s mentality being that of a thrust-back; a defiant push against the effects of this pandemic. So if the market is just waiting to be stimulated, when is it actually going to be rubbed the right way? When might this change? Much like all other industries, it looks as though this major economical blow will change the fate of what we now know as the travel industry. However, the future seems hopeful: as of recent statistics, the market has seen the past 16 days show a 229 per cent  increase in global flight bookings that were made to the UK, during the dates around January 2021. A 171% increase was made in the same kind of bookings to Spain, as well. This shows that although people are currently withdrawing from travelling, what with all the flight cancellations and such, the consumers still have hope for the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021. Which also implies that, as Covid-19 worsens with hundreds of deaths everyday, the confidence of the people will move further and further into 2021 – not a great outlook. Although restrictive measures have been taken to limit the virus’ spread, as of today, cases still seem very much on the rise. It looks to be a longer wait than 2020-end. We can’t ascertain this though – cases such as 2009’s H1N1 have proven otherwise. The WHO declared the virus a pandemic that June, and by mid-September vaccines had been created. Seems short when you say it, but that was actually a whole 3 months! The pandemic was considered over by August 2010, though, which was almost a whole year later. Not to make anyone lose hope, because as of an update dated mid-March, vaccines for the coronavirus have already been in the making in China. Nevertheless, there seems to be plenty of suppressed demand waiting for the channels to open, so the sooner the better!
A ‘New Normal’, or back to the old ways? Being one of the largest economic sectors in the world comes at a cost. This $8.8 trillion industry sees its doomsday because of the one thing it was valued for: access to other parts of the world. Even in a pre-Covid situation, there has been much speculation over the topic that excessive tourism might not be good for the long run – however, many countries see it as their prime source of money inflow, so they might be willing to take measures into their own hands if push comes to shove. Professionals at Tourism Industry speculate a full recovery by 2023, which is a full two and a half years from now. Although this seems particularly daunting (which it is), the travel industry might shift towards a more sustainable approach, allowing for preparation for any future outbreaks or economic dips. Countries are already switching to digital transactions and a more virtual approach to both essential and non-essential items: bank transfers, work meetings and social gatherings (even virtual graduation ceremonies!) are now part and parcel of today’s world, so looking at a more virtualized travel industry (i.e. VR tours and an immersive online experience) doesn’t seem so far off from reality. The IATA has forecasted an annual loss of $113-252 billion for the airline industry: revenue projection prospects moved swiftly from a growth of 4% to anywhere between a 13 to 30% year-on-year descent. Unemployment is now a bigger problem worldwide, with an estimated $24 billion (plus) wiped away, as more than 825,000 jobs have been lost. But this isn’t all dull and dreary – the silver lining here is that tourist spots are getting a bit of a breather, and they’re using this time well. The infamous canals in Venice have seen clear waters for the first time in decades, and geese now flock regularly to the plaza. Imagine what this would look like on your next trip to Italy – isn’t that a good bargain? However, many sources claim that the future is more invested towards local exploration, rather than a global footprint. What this means is, once individual countries start opening up borders within themselves, people will definitely stimulate air travel and holidays: just not abroad. The prospects of natural wonders being explored in and around your city may just start to look like a good idea. People who want to explore will find a way to do it no matter what resource they have, and this seems like the next best option: if foreigners come to your country to look around, why can’t you do the same? Is what the logic behind this is. And why does this matter? Because this is a good hint: the travel industry could see a pickup as soon as nationwide lockdowns – such as that of India – ease off. Whilst this may not be an end-of-year affair, or a wait towards 2023, it is still a compromise as well as a prospect that shouldn’t be taken lightly. As the virus is still very much in sight, a careless populus during the much-awaited end to lockdowns could lead to an even larger spread of the infection. Which, by extension, means a longer wait towards an industry recovery.
How certain are we that this is the case? Since travel isn’t an ‘essential’ good (which many travelholics might strongly object to), the future of it, as well as its return, is a wholly prospective deal. To sum it up, tentative dates may range from the hopeful year-end towards a full recovery only in 2023. What we need to keep in mind, however, is that the key word here is tentative: the best-case scenario sees a stringent adherence to government laws, coupled with a healthy lifestyle and appropriate medical measures. This doesn’t only make sure you stay Covid-free, though: it makes sure industries can start opening up faster. Lowered case rates mean that countries can now start shifting their aims from improving healthcare and trying to flatten the metaphorical curve, to focusing on the economic stimulation that many desperately seek. However, the worst-case scenario could mean multiple nationwise lockdowns, and a more powerful, mutated virus as a result: slowing down the economy even further, and hence delaying all your future trips to Bali, Greece and anywhere else you dreamt of going. Therefore, please ensure the safety of yourself and others by wearing your masks, using that sanitizer, and staying at home!

Airbnb Adds Saraburi to Beyond Big Cities Campaign
Tumblr media
Saraburi is Airbnb's latest destination in the Beyond Big Cities global campaign which encourages visitors to travel beyond major tourist centres and have a positive economic impact in the local communities they stay in. Following the launch of Buriram as the first Thai destination to be featured in the Beyond Big Cities campaign earlier this year, Airbnb showcases Saraburi with the launch of a community-led destination marketing video that highlights its rural beauty, local culture and diverse neighbourhoods. In addition to the video, Airbnb has also created a dedicated Saraburi page on its website which features information for travellers in Thai and English, including local insights as well as links to Airbnb Stays and Experiences in Saraburi and surrounding areas.
Tumblr media
“Airbnb remains committed to investing in efforts to spread the benefits of tourism beyond big cities, in line with the Royal Thai Government’s policies,” said Mich Goh, Head of Public Policy for Southeast Asia, Airbnb. “We are thrilled to unveil Saraburi as an emerging destination for Airbnb travellers, as it is easily accessible from Bangkok and offers a wealth of local culture and hosts who are passionate to share their homes and way of life.” In 2018, more than 1.9 million guests stayed in an Airbnb in Thailand, with inbound guest arrivals to Saraburi growing at an estimated 115% year-on-year from 2018. Saraburi is about two hours by car from Thailand’s capital city and is on the main road which links Bangkok with the north east of the country. Suttipong Juljarern, Director-General of the Ministry of Interior’s Community Development Department said, “On behalf of the Ministry of Interior’s Community Development Department, we welcome Airbnb in supporting the local community by empowering passionate hosts in Saraburi to share their way of life with international and domestic travellers alike. Through this initiative, we will build a blueprint for other communities to follow, and will provide support so that locals are ready to welcome tourists. This is because we are keen to see the benefits of Thailand’s successful tourism industry reach our local communities, which will help showcase the best our country has to offer and contribute to strong and sustainable local economies.” Samniang Simmawan, Director of the Social, Economic and Quality of Life Development Subdivision of the Ministry of Interior’s Department of Local Administration added, “Through this collaboration with Airbnb, we are helping Thai homestays – homes that have a maximum of four rooms or can welcome visitors not exceeding 20 – better understand the need of international travellers, as we encourage them to provide travellers with a truly authentic Thai experience. We want to see more Thais start their own homestay businesses and benefit from tourism, and with the support of Airbnb these Thai homestays can now reach millions globally.” See latest Travel News, Interviews, Podcasts and other news regarding: Saraburi, Sisaket, Roi-Et, Ubon, Khon Kaen.
