Mercedes’ newly appointed Technical Director Y/N Y/L/N looks stylish but stern as she joins the team for the first time at the Monaco Grand Prix. The aerodynamics engineer is on scene to meet with Mercedes drivers and staff and gather what data she can about the W14 to improve upon when designing the next generation. One thing is for certain, all eyes will be on the W15 to start the 2024 season.

Lewis Hamilton’s comments about his car before the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2023 versus 2024 are night and day. With a win in Bahrain to start the season already under his belt and a car that has been able to outmatch the competition, will the stars continue to align for the seven-time World Champion?

I shiver when a blast of air conditioning hits me as I step off the airplane into the Bahrain airport. I adjust my backpack on my shoulder as I look around for baggage claim. Following the signs, I arrive at the carousel. Grabbing my suitcase, I head for the taxi line up. I climb into the first open taxi. “Uh, the Hilton please,” I say, giving the driver the address. I sit back as he takes off.
“Thank you,” I say, climbing out of the taxi. I grab my bags and pay. I enter the hotel, and my jaw drops as I look around. The hotel is beautiful. “Wow,” I whisper, walking up to the front desk. “Hello, I’m here to check in. My name is Adaline Claret,” I say. The employee quickly gets me checked in, and I head up to my room. Unlocking the door, I throw my bag onto the bed. I fling open the curtains and look at the view. “This is beautiful,” I think aloud. I look out and spot the track. “I can’t believe this is actually happening.” My stomach growls loudly, letting me know that I need to eat lunch. “Okay okay, let’s go find a place to eat,” I hum.
I wander the streets of the city looking for a place to eat. I spot a small restaurant and head inside. I’m quickly greeted and sat down. I order the first thing off the menu that looks good.
Once my food comes, I inhale it. “This is delicious,” I mumble to myself. I pay after finishing and head out to explore the city. I wander the streets taking in the sights. As it gets dark, I head back to the hotel.
I fall onto the bed, pulling up Estelle’s contact. I hit call and wait as it rings. “Bonjour, Adaline. How was the first day in Bahrain?” Estelle asks, after answering.
“It was great. The city is beautiful; the food is great. Are Elise and Lacey behaving themselves?” I ask.
“They’re being angels, don’t you worry,” Louis assures me.
“Oh good. It feels weird to not be working right now. I haven’t taken time off since I opened it,” I say.
“Cherie, we’ve tried convincing you to take time off. It would be good for your health. You spend too much time working, it’s not healthy,” Estelle complains.
I sigh, “I know, I know. I just don’t want to close the bakery. Maybe I’ll hire some other bakers.”
“I think that would be a good idea. If you do that, you can keep the bakery open when you take vacations,” Estelle agrees. I nod even though they can’t see me.
“Yeah, I’ll start looking once I’m back home,” I declare.
“Okay, that sounds good. We’ll let you go to bed now. I’m sure you’re exhausted after the long day of traveling,” Louis says.
“Okay, good night. Let me know if there’s any issues with Lacey and Elise,” I respond, yawning.
“Good night, Adaline,” Louis and Estelle say, before hanging up. I quickly get ready for bed, before falling face first into the pillows. I quickly fall asleep.

March 18, 2022
I leap out of bed as my alarm rings. “I can’t believe I’m actually getting to see Formula 1 in action today,” I gasp, doing a little happy dance. I race around the room getting ready. The first free practice until 3, but I want to explore the paddock. I head downstairs for breakfast, grinning.
After eating, I hail a taxi. “Bahrain International Circuit, please,” I request. The driver pulls away from the hotel, and my excitement ramps up. I stare out the window, grinning as I see the circuit grow larger.
“Thank you,” I thank the driver as I climb out. I pull my paddock passes out of my bag and hang them around my neck. I walk up to the gate and scan my pass. I walk into the paddock and stand to the side. My head is constantly moving as I try to take everything in. My eyes widen as I see Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc walk past me. I take off down the paddock, looking for the Red Bull hospitality.
I spot the hospitality and nervously approach it. “Okay, Adaline. You got this. You’re supposed to be here,” I mumble to myself, trying to calm my anxiety of being in an unknown place by myself. I scan the pass and the door unlocks. I grin and walk in, looking around. The hospitality is really nice and has a row of windows on the back that show the track. I walk over to them and look out. “This is so cool!” I gasp, looking down the pit lane. I check my bag and make sure I have Louis’ Ferrari hat. I promised him that I’d try to get Charles to sign it. I head out of the Red Bull hospitality and look up and down the paddock. I spot Charles and start to make my way towards him.
“Bonjour, Charles. Je suis désolée de vous déranger, mais pouvez-vous signer ce chapeau, s’il vous plaît? (Hello, Charles. I am sorry to bother you, but can you sign this hat, please?)” I ask him, when there’s a lull in his conversation. Charles looks surprised to see me talking to him in French.
“Bien sur, (Of course)” Charles smiles, taking the hat and my marker from me. He signs it quickly and hands it back, before going back to his conversation.
“Merci beaucoup, (Thank you very much)” I respond, before walking away. I grin and walk back towards the Red Bull hospitality, tucking the hat into my bag.
“Adaline!” I hear my name called. I turn around, knowing it can only be one person.
“Bonjour, Max,” I grin, as he walks up to me.
“I am so glad you could make it!” Max says, holding the door to hospitality open for me.
“Trust me, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Thank you so much. This is amazing,” I enter the building, looking back at him.
“It’s nothing, I’m happy you are here,” he grins at me. He puts a hand on the small of my back and guides me further into the hospitality. “Let me show you around. This is where most people watch the race from because it’s comfier than the garage. Your pass will get you into the garage, so if you’d like to watch from there, you can.” Max explains as he starts walking.
“I will be watching from your garage everyday this weekend. Is it okay if I wear Red Bull merch? Or should I avoid that?” I blush, looking down at my outfit.
“It’s okay to wear the merch,” Max laughs. He leads me down some stairs, and the noise of Formula 1 cars gets louder. I feel my excitement climb. “And this is the Red Bull garage.” Max says, pushing open the door. He flourishes his arm, showing it off. My eyes widen and jaw drops.
“Max, this is amazing. Thank you,” I breathe out. My head goes every which way as I try to take in everything. Max goes over to a wall of headphones and grabs a pair.
“These are for you. It can get quite noisy in here,” Max shouts over the noise of the wheel guns. I take the headphones from him and put them over my ears. I give him a thumbs up and grin. He laughs, giving me thumbs up back. Max gestures to the back of the garage and I nod, following him. I take the headphones off and Max says, “This is where you’ll watch from.”
“Okay, sounds great,” I grin. Max glances at his watch and looks back.
“I have to go get ready for practice one. Have fun,” he grins and backs up.
“I will! Be safe!” I shout for him to hear me, before putting the headphones back on. I can hear Red Bull’s radios through the headset. I grin and watch the screens intently, trying to interpret the data.
************************************************************************
I grin as practice one comes to a close. Max jumps out of his car and heads for his engineers to discuss the data. I take this break to go and find something to eat. I head up the stairs to the hospitality for lunch.
I munch on a sandwich that I’ve found as I look out across the track. I jump when I hear a voice behind me. “Did you enjoy the first practice?” Max grins, rounding the table.
“I did, it’s so exhilarating to watch,” I say, eyes shining with excitement. Max laughs and nods.
“It’s exhilarating to do,” he smiles.
“I’m sure,” I say, finishing my sandwich.
“I remembered that I don’t have your number. May I get it?” Max asks me, blushing a little. He holds out his phone to me.
I grin and nod, grabbing his phone from him. I slide him my phone so he can put his number in.
After I give Max his phone back, he glances at his watch and groans. “It’s almost time for me to get back in the car.”
“Let’s get you back to the garage,” I laugh. I stand up and throw away my trash. Max follows me to the garage. He walks over to the car, glancing over at me quickly. I smile and nod to him, and he nods back. He hops in the car and I can feel the roar of the cars in my bones. I grin as Max pulls out of the garage.
************************************************************************
I fall into bed, exhausted. I close my eyes and am about to fall asleep when my phone rings. “Hello,” I answer it, without looking at the caller id.
“So, tell me about today!!” I hear Louis say, excited.
I’m immediately wide awake. “Oh it was awesome! I saw Max. He gave me a tour of the Red Bull hospitality. I also talked to Charles Leclerc. I got your hat signed. It was exhilarating to watch. You could feel the roar of the engines in your bones from the garage.”
“We’ll have to try to get tickets to Monaco,” Louis says, “I haven’t been to a race in years.”
“I think so too. It would be fun,” I nod, yawning, “I should get to bed. Tell Estelle I say hello.”
“I will. Have a good night, cherie,” Louis says.
“Good night, Louis,” I say, hanging up. I quickly change into my pajamas, and set my alarm for the morning. I crawl under the covers and fall into a deep sleep.

The Battle of the Paddock CHAPTER THREE
The flight to Bahrain was one of the best experiences that Bella had ever had. The first class was an incredible experience. Lando and Bella had shared a pod with four chairs, a large TV screen, and an extensive menu they could order from at any point. George and Henry were in the pod next to them. Early in the flight, George excused himself to use the toilet, leaving Lando to explore his seat. Lando discovered a set of buttons on his armrest, between his and George's chairs, that controlled the dividing screen. He pressed a button, and the divider slid upwards, blocking George and Henry's pod from view. Lando looked at Bella, an expression on his face similar to a child coming downstairs on Christmas morning to see presents under the tree.
George would be in mid-conversation with Bella when Lando would slide his hand to the button and start the divider, cutting them off. George could only bring it down again whilst it was entirely up, much to his annoyance. Every time Lando did this, he would cackle with laughter, setting Bella and Henry off. Lando would not get bored of this any time soon, and they still had another eight hours in the air, so Bella made him swap seats.
When it started getting late, the stewards offered to make the seats into beds. Lando and Bella opted for them to be separated, but they were only a couple of feet apart if they left the curtains open. They chose a movie to fall asleep watching and settled down for the night.
They lay together, whispering like children at a sleepover about the excitement to follow. After a period of silence, Lando turned to ask her a question, and he could see her peacefully asleep. He stood up, grabbed his unopened bottle of water, and placed it carefully on her shelf, replacing her empty one.
Turning her overhead light off, he whispered, "Goodnight, Bells", and then closed her privacy curtain.
Lando popped his head into George and Henry's pod en route to the toilet.
"Anyone still awake?" He asked.
"Just about", came a weary reply. "You, okay?"
"Yeah, all good. I just wanted to say that Bella is asleep, so please, can you be quiet and not put the divider up and down? I don't want to disturb her."
George looked at Lando, a small smile appearing across his face.
"Yes, of course, mate. Goodnight, and see you on the other side."
As Lando left, George and Henry caught each other's eyes and raised their eyebrows. They had not expected that.
***
The circuit was what Bella had imagined it to be and more. Everything was bigger, better, and brighter than it had appeared on TV. Lando had used the first few hours after they arrived to show her around. They walked from motorhome to motorhome; she had had a tour of the McLaren base, the hospitality unit and all the other facilities there were on offer should she want them. While walking around the paddock, they passed various other teams and drivers. Lando greeted the other drivers warmly, introducing them to Bella.
"Here come the Ferrari boys, looking on fire, as usual." Lando joked.
Two men in red approached them. The one on the left was Carlos Sainz, who was laughing at something with his teammate, Charles Leclerc. Charles met Bella's eye and winked.
"Hello, mate!" He said, embracing Lando warmly. "How have you been? And who is this with you this year? A new babysitter?"
Bella laughed and introduced herself. She couldn't look away from Charles' eyes. After a brief chat, the Ferrari boys bid their goodbyes and good luck for the testing and left. As they parted, Charles looked back over his shoulder, locking eyes one last time with Bella, and winked. Bella felt as though someone had poured ice water over her.
"Right," said Lando, glancing at his watch. "It's show time, baby."
Bella gathered all her camera equipment, and they made their way down to the garages. They were hoards of media, all waiting to see the new cars.
Oscar was up first. Lando handed Bella some ear defenders ready for when the engine came to life in the garage. They stood by the pit wall and watched Oscar roar off into the distance. Bella had set up her video camera, ready to catch Oscar pass them again. Lando lent through a gap in the fence, right in the camera line. Bella readjusted the camera and pressed the record. They could hear the engine of the McLaren approaching.
"He's coming," Lando said.
Oscar sped past, and Bella started to follow the car and decided instead to pan back to Lando, whose head had followed the passing vehicle. He nodded in approval and mouthed the word, 'wow'.
They stepped back into the pits, and Lando approached his engineer, Will.
"Does my car go that quick?" he asked, "It looked quite fast!"
This was precisely the type of content she was looking for. She wanted to show the McLaren fans a more exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience whilst still having them fall for Lando. She wanted them to fall in love with this cheeky chap to root for him and show him the support he deserved.
Next up was Lando's turn. She was with him in his driver's room, going through his pre-driving stretches. He seemed more excited than nervous. She knew he just wanted to return to that driving seat and experience the freedom of flying around the track again. Lando pulled on his fireproofs.
"I think the black suits you," said Bella, smoothing his shoulders.
"Thanks, mum."
Bella followed him down the tunnel to the garage. Watching Lando suit up entirely was a new experience for her. She has seen such a quick switch in him, from joking and laughing to looking focused and concentrated. It was like she wasn't there; he had tunnel vision on the car and the track, and that's all that existed in Lando's world for those moments.
"I’m going to go upstairs, try and get some shots of you driving out. Be safe, Lando”.
Lando nodded toward her as he climbed into the car.
Bella went upstairs and leant over the balcony, poised with her camera, ready for the shot. She heard the engine boom below her, and her stomach filled with butterflies. The thought of Lando racing around the track, out of sight at speeds Bella could only dream of, terrified her. She’d seen many clips of what could go wrong; all she wanted was for him to be safe. No matter what happened out there, he had to come back.
Bella pressed a button and saw his car's nose edge out of the garage below. Suddenly he pulled away, speeding down the pit lane out onto the track, and the engine noise faded.
Bella went back downstairs to the garage in time for his return. She could tell something hadn’t gone to plan; the engineers and pit team were all deep in discussion, looking concerned about something. Lando was still in the car and moving forward into the pits, so it must have been a mechanical issue. The tension in the air was thick. Bella stayed back against the rear wall, keeping out of the way. She debated getting a clip of Lando exiting the vehicle but quickly changed her mind. Lando climbed out of the seat and unclipped his helmet, throwing it back into the seat behind him.
He walked past everyone, not even looking at Bella and approached his driver’s room. He drew his arm back and punched the wall as he passed through the open door. Bella stood in shock; she wasn’t sure how to react. No one seemed to be following him, and she could see media at the mouth of the garage. Bella quickly approached the door and followed him, pulling it shut behind her.
“Not now, Bella”, Lando said sharply, his back to her.
“Lando? What happened?”
“Bella, please, I don’t want to talk to anyone now. Just give me a minute.”
“Lando?” Bella pleaded; it hurt to hear him angry.
“Isabella. Not. Now.” Lando raised his voice.
Bella sat down and crossed her arms.
“You may be the great Lando Norris, but you don’t speak to me like that. I will sit here until you decide to calm down and talk to me like an adult”.
Lando stood there, staring at the wall for a minute before sighing and rubbing his eyes. He turned and scoffed at her arrogance.
“Fine, I’m sorry, Bells. I am”
“Better, but not forgiven.”
“It went wrong, okay? The wheel brows came loose, and it pissed me off. Especially after Oscar had such a great lap.”
“Well, that’s not my fault, is it? You can’t go around punching walls and calling me Isabella. Only my mum called me that, and you know that”.
“I know. I’m sorry. Bring it in?” Lando said, sticking out his bottom lip, giving her the puppy dog stare and holding his arms out wide.
The following days consisted of car repairs, data analysing and many other things that Bella did not understand. However, she captured as many photos as possible and enjoyed every minute of living in Lando’s world.

Your Guide to the Best Battery Distributors in Bahrain
In the fast-paced world of technology and industrial advancements, reliable power sources are essential. Batteries play a pivotal role in ensuring that everything from our everyday gadgets to large industrial equipment runs smoothly. Bahrain, a burgeoning hub of technological growth in the Middle East, has seen an increasing demand for high-quality batteries. This demand has led to the rise of several battery distributors in Bahrain, each striving to provide top-notch products and services. If you’re looking to find the best battery distributors in Bahrain, this guide will help you navigate through the options and make an informed decision.
Understanding the Battery Market in Bahrain
Bahrain’s strategic location and robust economy make it a prime market for various industries, including battery distribution. The country’s push towards technological advancement and sustainable energy solutions has driven the need for a diverse range of batteries, from consumer electronics to industrial applications. This growing demand has attracted numerous local and international battery distributors to establish their presence in Bahrain.
Key Considerations When Choosing a Battery Distributor
Before diving into the list of the best battery distributors in Bahrain, it’s important to understand what factors to consider when making your choice:
Product Range: A good distributor should offer a wide variety of batteries to meet different needs. Whether you need batteries for consumer electronics, automotive, industrial applications, or renewable energy systems, the distributor should have a comprehensive product lineup.
Quality Assurance: Quality is paramount when it comes to batteries. Ensure that the distributor provides products from reputable manufacturers and that the batteries meet international quality and safety standards.
Technical Support: Reliable technical support and after-sales service are crucial. A good distributor should offer guidance on battery selection, installation, and maintenance.

Drive to Survive Season 6(Luci's version)
How I'd direct DTS season 6.
The drive to Survive Season 6 we all deserve. Netflix ignored so much about 2023 and has stepped up in it's inaccurate portrayals of certain events/teams. So I am doing this.
Drive to Survive is about the narrative and creating contained stories within the broader scope of an entire F1 season. I will make editing choices to create a more tight and cohesive narrative but never anything misleading.
Also this is a Charles blog so yes I will be giving him more screen-time because I want to.
Without further ado, Drive to Survive Season 6 (Luci's Version)
Tumblr media
Episode 1 "Away We Go!" : Season intro episode. Seeing all the teams, some highlights from preseason testing, introduce the new faces on the grid.
I will be editing the first half of the episode as most of DTS should be edited, Office style. The drivers are funny together and mess around, we are gonna show them being themselves when not in the car.
Then the second half of the episode will focus on the opening race in Bahrain. With special focus on Max and Fernando's races.
Episode 2 "The Eagle and the Kiwi" : This is the rookie episode!
Of course we will be highlighting Logan and Oscar's rookie seasons. The struggles they faced, the highlights of their seasons. How they got along in the new team.
For Oscar plenty of him being teammates with Lando, early struggles, then cut to him getting his first podium and P1 in the sprint!
Logan can highlight some of the challenges coming from F2 to F1. Of course we would do Austin, talk about his home race, show his improvement and how he developed over the season (Vegas etc)
They are very different rookies however they both improved over the season and we want to show just how cut-throat F1 is and the kind of sink or swim approach rookies face.
Would show some similarities and differences between the two 2023 rookies. And I would get them to give an interview together about their first year in F1 because that would be cute.
Episode 3 "Some Papaya" : Mclaren episode! The theme being the story of their new teammate dynamic between Oscar and Lando, and the chaotic season that ended on some crazy high notes.
First more about how Mclaren has one of the most impressive rookies in Formula 1 history.
Then I have to include lots of footage of Oscar and Lando being silly(for very important entertainment purposes)
Then we dig into the early season failures and how the team made some massive improvements. Montage of the podiums they scored, of course Oscar's sprint win makes a reappearance.
The main idea here being that this team is going somewhere and they are getting closer to being competitive regularly with the other top teams.
Episode 4 "Trouble in Paradise" : The Mercedes episode. Similar to Netflix I would focus in on trouble behind the scenes and the issues Lewis has with the development direction of the car.
Include some of the early Ferrari rumors(will set it up perfectly for season 7 transfer reveal)
Then we go to see that George is struggling still being treated as second to Lewis. Show his season highlights, as well as where he is still making mistakes(Singapore)
Basically this is really digging into the mess that is Mercedes, Lewis unhappy, the plethora of problems with the car, and George getting close to his limit being under Lewis' shadow.
Episode 5 "Civil War" : Stealing Netflix's title, and it's the Alpine episode but I am doing it right.
Will explore the issues Esteban and Pierre had on track. The competition between the two, how that caused tension. Will show their race highlights as well as battles. Emphasis placed on times when them over-competing with each other did not end well.
Then dig a little deeper behind the scenes. Show other issues that went on at Alpine in terms of car development etc.
Of course we want to also show that Este and Pierre have been competing for a long time and have history. Hype of the teammate rivalry. Get them to share silly stories about each other on and off the track.
The theme of the episode would be the idea of how too much internal fighting on the track can be detrimental to the team(calling back to some Ferrari strategies of the past)
Episode 6 "Forza Ferrari" : Yes I am using the same title as Netflix but I am doing it right.
This episode would be most focused on Charles but we would also go over Carlos' season. The theme is the change in management and the upward trajectory of the team and Charles in spite of having a challenging car/season
Start by establishing that Ferrari were fighting the car all season. Show the technical issues, but then show the little improvements made along the way, build up from the DNF in Bahrain to Charles taking P2 back to back at the end of the season. Highlight how much skill it took to do that in a car that had serious reliability and tyre deg issues. Show the Vegas overtake, show his insane "what's the gap between Checo and Russell" moment.
Then of course we will mention Carlos' win in Singapore, how that was a step up in hope for Ferrari, how that aided the team in staying close with Mercedes.
Then finish by focusing on how Fred is taking the team in a new direction, show moments behind the scenes that are in stark contrast to what we saw from Binotto in the past.
The main theme being that this was a season when Ferrari really had to fight a lot with the hand they were dealt as far as the car went, and the team stepped up, actually being true to "Forza Ferrari"
It starts tough, but ends on a hopeful note.
(we will not mention Monza because I would scream)
Episode 7 "More Than Heat" : This episode will focus on several issues in the 2023 season, most notably the Qatar GP, but also the Vegas drain cover incident as well as the impacts to Vegas as as whole.
This is the episode that Netflix would never be allowed to make because it would be highly critical of the money driven incentives behind F1 being put before driver safety and the local impacts.
Include footage and testimony from drivers and their teams talking about the heat, concerns over the dangers. Get an interview with Logan over stepping out of the race.
Then go to Vegas, show how rushed everything was. And then of course highlight how the drain cover was negligent and dangerous. Carlos was lucky, but he was still mildly injured and shaken.
This is the much needed F1 as entertainment above safety episode. It would be the most serious in tone of the season.
Episode 8 "What Happens in Vegas" : This is the Vegas episode!
This will be a race and spectacle centered episode that sets up the tight constructor's race between Ferrari and Mercedes.
Of course I will be highlighting Charles' race here, the overtake, the podium, what it means for him and for Ferrari.
Include plenty of cool night time shots, and also several memorable meme moments (Checo's entrance and the car post race, comedy gold) I want to create drama and entertainment here in the spirit of Vegas, so we get a lot of silly comedic moments then with the dramatic race.
The episode would center around it being one of the most exciting races of the season, highlight Charles, and showcase some of the most tense and best parts of the race.
It also works to set up the stage for the final two episodes.
Episode 9 "Race to Second" : This is the episode about the tight race between Mercedes and Ferrari over the course of the season. With Red Bull clearly in the lead we will look at the close battle that happened in 2023.
Going over the highlights and lowlights for each team, the back and forth, the strategy by both teams to try to stay in the lead, the tension of it coming down to positioning in the last race.
In 2023 this competition was probably the most exciting part of 2023 in terms of competition between teams.
Final moments will be the Abu Dhabi race, Charles radio "what's the gaps between Checo and Russell" a breakdown of what that meant and why it was brilliant.
Ending with the final fallout, of Mercedes just barely beating Ferrari.
Episode 10 "Anything but Inevitable" : The entire season we have barely talked about Max at this point. People are going "WHERE IS MAX?" and as the director that's exactly what I want.
This is Max's episode. Starting with shots form his first F1 race, cutting to his first F1 win, then a montage of all the difficult races, the DNFs, the years where he was getting ahead of himself. Then cut to that first win in Bahrain with an enhanced orchestral interpretation of the Dutch anthem.
The entire episode will focus on his historic his season was. Highlight some of his finest driving of the season, some of the iconic radio moments.
The episode title is meant to highlight the work Max did, everyone likes to think he's always had it easy, that being naturally gifted carries you, that a good car carries you. No, he WORKED and dealt with a lot of bullshit, especially in those early years. He wasn't inevitable, he made his own destiny.
Ending with that final podium shot with a slow piano version of the dutch anthem(for maximum tears) and then cut to some of Max's first F1 interviews talking about where he sees himself going.
End Season

"imagine" part vi
imagine: form a mental image or a concept
plot: you didn’t know what you were getting into when you turned your hobby into an actual career on f1. based on Lewis’ “imagine” tweet.
Sunday March 20, 2022
"you were lying to this man's face and millions watched it live"
You couldn't sleep at all Saturday night. Knowing what was happening today and Friday's event still replaying in your mind, it was a rough night. You flipped and flopped, avoiding the bedside clock because you knew looking at the time would anger you. Hours passed, and you may have had one decent hour of sleep.
As you got up to do your morning routine, you reflected on how frustrating Saturday was for you. You felt you only had yourself to blame for constantly living in the past, but that was who you were. You couldn't focus all of your energy on covering final practice and qualifying because you were in your head. The reaction from Friday's events had died down, and people came to your defense, understanding what you meant.
Though there were still those negative comments here and there, you felt the need to lie low. Saturday morning you avoided social media. Doing so pained you because you had questions you felt would open the drivers up, but fear again got the best of you. So you worked with the information you had at your disposal. The second you published the article, you knew it wasn't your best work, but you had to do it. You swore it'd be the first and final time you'd do something like that. "That's enough," you said to your reflection in the mirror. You grabbed your phone and played music to get those negative thoughts out of your head, at least until it was time to leave.
When you arrived at the Paddock, the butterflies in your stomach were back and worse than Friday. You'd think getting to Bahrain three days prior would have helped your nerves, but that wasn't the case. The atmosphere felt different on this day. That's because it was race day. You never entered a Grand Prix from the Paddock entrance, nor with a bag full of your laptop, notebooks, chargers, and other materials to cover a race. You looked around to take everything in, scanned your badge, and walked towards the media center with your head held high.
Like you've done throughout the weekend, you set up your workstation in the back row off to the side. You wanted to explore the track before it was "lights out." But you felt the need to check social media. To your surprise, people were questioning your whereabouts. "Where have you been? No one wished the drivers well today?" "We see the articles yet, haven't heard your voice?" It had only been less than a day and a half, but seeing people care warmed your heart. It made you feel wanted again. You tried avoiding being negative, so you sent a tweet downplaying what was happening to you mentally. "I've been sure busy covering my first Grand Prix weekend! I've learned a lot these past few days. I hope to be ready today and for more to come. I can't wait for 'lights out and away we go!' I'll check back in soon. Thanks for reaching out!" You set your phone on the charger, grabbed your camera, and did a quick tour before the festivities began.
You didn't realize how different it would be to cover a race at the track. A lot was going on, the sounds of the cars, the crowd, and commentary over the speakers. Watching the race from monitors and keeping social media updated was more difficult than you thought. Still, the fan in you wanted to see the race live on the track, not on a screen. So during the final five laps, you stepped away from your laptop, grabbed your camera, and headed to the spectator area of the track. You knew you were being watched, so you tried your hardest to look neutral, but on the inside, you were screaming. Laps 54 hit and you wanted to yell but had to remain stoic. "After a terrible qualifying, would a Silver Arrows find their way to the podium?" You thought to yourself. Lap 57 came, and something snapped you out of your daze. Number 11 spun around, and the crowd went wild. You took a photo and posted it on your socials with "Did this just happen?" You then ran towards the podium area for the media to get a decent spot to watch.
This was the first time you'd been this close to the podium, and it didn't feel real. You watched in amazement as the anthems of the teams and drivers played, then the champagne celebrations. You tried to get as many photos as possible. You wanted to remember this moment and share it with those who supported you. You knew trying to write and export these videos would lead you to a long night. But it was worth it, as this is a moment you'd never forget.
Deep down, you were still a fan, and watching Lewis sneak his way into a podium finish made you smile. As you were about to snap one last photo, your screen notified you of it being out of storage. You tried to switch to your phone but unlocked it to see a 10% battery warning. Realizing your predicament, you had to call it quits and ran back to the media center.
You couldn't understand why the room was so empty since the podium celebration was over. You checked social media to see if you missed anything and realized you were supposed to be in the media pits to get all the drivers' responses. "Rookie mistake," you said to yourself. It was too late to run out of there, so you made a mental note about the protocol. Fortunately, this gave you more time to get your thoughts together while the room was quiet. You didn't realize how much time had passed, but the room got busy as soon as you published your first article. Reporters and other media members came piling in, ready for the top three finishers: Charles, Carlos, and Lewis.
As introductions and congratulatory messages flew, it was time for questions. You had all the confidence in the world and felt fearless. You were the first person to raise their hand. When you realized what you had done, you said a quick prayer that you were not called upon. You must have prayed too late because a mic was in your face. You took a deep breath and said, "Congratulations to you all on a podium finish. Charles first, Carlos second, and Lewis third. I have two questions, if I may".
Your first question was to a very gleeful Charles and Carlos about describing their feelings for a double Ferrari podium and their hopes as the season continued. Then your second question was for Lewis, asking how he felt about the car after "sneaking" his way into a podium finish, which also kept his record of being the only driver to have a podium each season.
Lewis responded with, "First, how are you? I hope you're well." This caused a laugh to erupt throughout the room. Lewis had been the first and only person to ask you that. On the inside, you were burning up but had to keep it all professional. You responded, "I learned my lesson and kept the mic, but I am well. Thanks for asking!" You were lying to this man's face and millions watched it live. You were still a nervous wreck, as you had been the whole weekend. Whatever Lewis answered, you couldn't remember because you were still taking in what had just happened.
The night ended, and you were back in your hotel room, posting your second article and scheduling a video for tomorrow. As exhausted as you were, you couldn't fall asleep. You swiped through the countless photos and videos as you lay in bed. As you went to lock your phone, you received an email regarding "Media Availability, 29 March 2022" Maybe you were delirious from the lack of sleep and didn't think you read the subject line correctly, so you went to open it. You were invited to be a guest contributor to give your thoughts live the following Monday after every Grand Prix. The invite was for the Australian Grand Prix. You pinched yourself to make sure it wasn't a dream. Once you winced in pain, you knew it was real.
You wanted to respond immediately but chose not to so as not to appear desperate, replying at an ungodly hour in the night. So you left your phone open on that email, locked it, and went to bed.
Life and everything hit you quickly. Opportunities after opportunities were flowing, and you were tired, but success came with great responsibility. You had to continue to put yourself out there. "Never giving up and never doubting myself lead me here" was what you said aloud before going to bed.
