it always emotionally devastates me when i think about the nightmare that so many eastern lesbians are living. the lesbian in a village in uzbekistan who had to marry a man bc the whole village started to gossip about her lesbianism and then committed suicide 2 months later. the butch lesbian in bahrain that told me her mom took her to a doctor who said she needs to undergo hormone therapy to “fix” her lesbianism and masculinity (& the lesbian believes this too). the african lesbian (she didn’t state her country) who pretended to date a man to gain her family’s approval, only for that man to rape her and give her HIV. the lesbians living in villages in lebanon that eventually have to marry a man, or find a way to escape their country before they’re forced into a het marriage. the lesbians in south africa who face high rates of “corrective” rape. we have to endure such horrors simply because our societies cannot accept us being women exclusively attracted to women. the combination of lacking rights and autonomy as a woman and facing violent homophobia makes us such a vulnerable yet invisible group. and despite that, our invisibility means our struggles are downplayed by every side.

Boyah
Boyah (plural: Boyat) was subcultural identity of AFAB non-binary,tomboy,demi girl & trans-masculine folks of Persian Gulf. Boyat are asigned female at birth, but express gender atypical behaviour. The origin of this queer subculture is unclear, some boyat claimed that it was started through online forums & groups. [citation needed]
Boyah subculture was more visible in Gulf states (including Kuwait,Oman,Saudi Arabia,UAE,Bahrain). Boyah identity may fall under the modern Transgender and Non-binary umbrella. However some people may considered them as people of forth gender.
Sexuality
Boyat folk's sexuality can be confusing in various cultural contexts. Most of the Boyat had intimate and romantic relationships with cis-girls in their past life, but they do not consider themselves as homosexual.
The term Boyah itself does not mean lesbian in arabic. In later life many Boyat had to pursue a heterosexual marriage & had children.Because marriage is a obligatory in local arabic customs. In addition to this, some boyah were androsexual & interested in boys only.
Culture & Lifestyle
Trans-masculine/tomboys/AFAB non-binary/AFAB genderpunk took the “Boyah” cultural identity in their early adolescence. On the otherhand, some boyat took the male role to challenge societal gender norms and stereotypes in Arabic Gulf States.
In general, a boyah is characterized by no make-up, no feminine expressions, no feminine name, feminine pronouns. In boyah subculture, Boyat community may use a massive masculine watches.Boyat people worn loose-fitting male cloth with a touch of the military, vibrantly coloured dresses, shirts and boyah jeans(which are baggy with big prints all over them). Since the age of internet Arab's boyat community started informal groups, online forums.
Most of the boyat have to lead double lives because gulf states has strict cultural gender roles especially for womxn. Many of them are forced to get married. In general Boyah phenomena is considered a disgrace to an arab family's honour.Additionally atypical gender expression is seems to be indecent and deviant in GCC states. Many boyat face stigma for not adhering with rigid patriarchal gender roles.
After leaving home, many undergo a radical transformation, changing their clothes at school/college or a friend's house. While in transition ,they run no real risk of being caught because, while in public, Emirates women are required to wear the national dress - a long black over-garment called an abaya, which makes it easier to switch roles without drawing attention.
Media
In general, Gulf media portrays queerness in negetive ways. A Boyah named Abeer appeared on the Saudi TV Show “Ya Hala” where he/ze said that he/ze was attracted to women while still at school. He/Ze had a complete love relationship with a classmate for a long time. Another person named Hamood joined a show of Radio Sawa where he/ze explained ze was rebelling against social (gender) norms and his/zee family’s restrictions through this boyah phenomena.
On a national television of UAE, a boyah named Bandar openly spoke about his queer relationship with another girl and expressed the desire to marry her and have children with her through IVF. His statement on Abu Dhabi's national television shocked the whole nation.
Decline of Boyah Culture
In the Persian Gulf region, boyah identity became very controversial since 2007. In 2007, the Kuwaiti parliament amended Article 198 of the country’s penal code so that anyone “imitating the opposite sex in any way” could face up to a year in jail and/or a fine of 1,000 dinars ($3,500). A further problem was that the law made no attempt to define “imitating the opposite sex” So it was basically left to the discretion of the police. Within a couple of weeks at least 14 people had been arrested in Kuwait City & thrown into prison. Boyat made their debut as a public concern in 2008 when Dubai police denounced cross-dressing - its chief, Dahi Khalfan Tamim, called on the Ministry of Social Affairs to find out how widespread the practice is and what causes it.
In 2009, Dubai launched a public campaign under the slogan "Excuse Me, I am a Girl", which cautioned against “masculine” behaviour among AFAB queers & tomboys and aimed to steer them towards "femininity". The impetus for this was a moral panic which swept through several Gulf states at that time, regarding the Boyah phenomena. 2 months after announcing the campaign the police persecuted 40 people (for their gender atypical expression), imprisoned them for 3 years in jail.In addition, trans-masculine/trans males, trans women,gender-queers were also shamed & abused by the UAE's police team.
Public Attitudes
Many conservative patriarchal arab people see a greater danger in the Boyah subcultural practices; they fear it can become permanent and cause great distress for the women and their families.
Psychiatrist Yousef Abou Allaban says, "It can go extreme, where they change their sex and have an operation.'' Saudi journalist Yousef Al-Qafari said in an interview on Radio Sawa that family disintegration and lack of true love have led women to act like a man. Al-Qafari said education was the best way to tackle this phenomenon. He called on the Ministry of Education to take up this role.
Social worker Nadia Naseer said, “Families play an essential role in such cases. Families should monitor their female members, especially when they start acting like men by cutting their hair short, wearing men’s clothing, or refusing to wear women’s accessories”. She also said, when a girl or woman does this, she is looking for attention & sending a message that she is a boyah.
Saudi writer Randa Alsheikh, in one of her columns, said that she attended a social gathering where she saw a group of females who appeared almost completely like men.“I would not be exaggerating if I say I could not tell the difference between them and men,” she wrote. She said that they looked, talked and walked like men & “even worse” some appeared to be in their 40s. We need to quickly address this phenomenon to contain these girls so that they are able to build good families and a healthy society,”

🏎️💨 THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️💨: tagged by @avida-heidia-5, thank you!!
(this has been in my drafts since January and I had completely forgotten to post it, so I'm going to fix that immediately. I am so sorry this took forever!)
1. Who or what got you into F1?
My Dad. The best memories I have of my Dad are watching F1 races together when I was growing up. idk how long he'd been an F1 fan by the time I was born, but I still have a very old Ferrari hat of his.
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
As a kid Michael because of my Dad (according to my Gran when I really really little I used to run around going "vroom vroom Schumacher!"). When I got back into watching F1 in 2013 I supported Jenson and Seb, and I still do! They're very much my beloveds.
3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?
Lewis!
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
the dream teams of Seb, Britta and Antti & Lewis and Bono. I am a sucker for colleagues turned besties.
And as for teammates, Lewis and Jenson are my favourites. I frequently go onto YouTube and look up old McLaren promo videos because they're just hilarious in the best way (also shoutout to Series 1 of Tooned, I still have it on DVD!).
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
Nope, I'm the only F1 fan in my family. My parents (Mum and Step-Dad) have the odd opinion on some drivers but as a whole they're very unbothered 😅
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
I have so many for various different reasons. Silverstone 2014 & 2018 because I was there. India 2013 and Singapore 2019 for Seb reasons, Hungary 2019 and Turkey 2020 for Lewis reasons. Hungary 2021 for the whole of lap 1 and also for Seb reasons. Bahrain 2014 also sticks out because it was such a good race long battle between Nico and Lewis.
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
Silverstone and Marina Bay (Singapore)
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
As mentioned above I have been ridiculously lucky to go to the British GP twice in 2014 and 2018. The first time my parents organised it and the second time was via coach trip (which honestly I would recommend, it took out a lot of the stress in terms of getting to the track).
Obviously it's been a while but both years were absolutely amazing. Silverstone is a brilliant circuit both in terms of spectator facilities and seating options (idk if they still have it, but for our weekend tickets we had roving grandstand seats for the Saturday which meant we could sit in different parts of the track for FP3 and Quali - Luffield and Village are great spots!).
The atmosphere at the track is also just incredible, even during a practice session. They also open the Porsche experience centre and have cars on display (including cars that have won Le Mans!!)
I did post some pictures at the time from both trips under the Silverstone 2014 and Silverstone 2018 tags and I'm happy to post more if people want!
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
I have not but I know someone who has 😅
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
I have a colossal soft spot for the Brawn GP BGP001, she will always be famous 🤍💛
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
Esteban Ocon purely for everything that was Hungary 2021.
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
Lewis' post-race radio from Turkey 2020 and a (very) long list of Seb quotes

🏎️💨 THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME🏎️💨
creds to @avida-heidia-5 for making this
thanks to @vinvantae for tagging me !!
tagging: most of my moots have already been tagged so anyone who wants to do it !!
1. who or what got you into f1?
legitimately, i kept seeing this charles leclerc imagine pop up in my “for you” thing and so i read it and then proceeded to look charles leclerc up and then i ended up hyper-fixating on it and now it’s almost my entire personality
2. who was the very first f1 driver you supported? do you support them now? have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
daniel ricciardo!! although charles kind of pushed me toward the direction of f1, daniel was the first driver i really got attached too (i will admit it was partially because of dts). he’s still one of my favorite drivers, him and charles are tied for first but i really want to see him do well and i will forever be so sad that i didn’t get into formula 1 until he was in his second year with mclaren :(
3. who’s your current favorite f1 driver?
while daniel is also my favorite driver, charles might be a little higher than him simply because i am a ferrari fan and the fact that charles drives for my favorite team gives him a little boost.
4. is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? what made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
honestly max and daniel will forever one of my favorite teammate pairings just because i feel like they’re so good together (they’re also so goofy and i love to see how max acts around him cause i think it’s so funny). i also LOVE seb and kimi just because i love the way they interact with each other😭
5. do your parents, siblings, or relatives have a favorite team and/or favorite drivers?
unfortunately i am the only one in my family that really likes f1. my older brother knows a little bit and he likes checo and lewis but he doesn’t really keep up with anything, and my mom likes charles only because i like charles💀
6. do you have any favorite races? are there any that stand out to you the most?
spa 2019, monza 2020, são paulo 2022, and singapore 2023. são paulo and singapore have a special place in my heart cause são paulo was the first f1 race i ever watched and i think it’s really cool that that was george russell’s first race win, and i really love singapore because that was the first time i’ve ever experienced ferrari winning a race and i was literally jumping around in my room freaking out when it happened.
7. do you have a favorite circuit? can be from the past or from the current calendar.
i like a couple but i’d say my favorite is probably monza. some others i really like are bahrain, suzuka, and singapore!!
8. have you ever been to an f1 race in real life? free to tell us your experience going to one of you’d like.
sadly no!! i unfortunately live in the u.s. and i feel like our gp tickets are so incredibly expensive plus i don’t live in a state close enough to any of our tracks. i have been to an indycar race however (which i know isn’t that same thing) but it was a lot of fun and i’d really recommend it if you have the chance to go cause it is a lot more affordable compared to f1!!
9. have you ever met an f1 driver in real life?
i have not, which i’m kind of happy about cause while i think it would be amazing, i am so incredibly awkward and would definitely make it uncomfortable because of how awkward i am. i have however met a couple of indycar drivers (some of those being pato o’ward and marcus armstrong) which was really cool!! i meant to tell marcus that i loved screaming meals but i got too nervous and just asked him to sign my hat🫠
10. do you have a favorite f1 car? if so, what is it?
not necessarily my favorite car but i LOVED the williams livery this year!!
11. do you have a favorite one win wonder?
monza 2020!! while i’m not a huge fan of him as much as i used to be, i really liked pierre when i first got into f1 and i just loved that he was able to get his first win at monza. i also think the atmosphere after he won was so amazing especially after what he went through with red bull the season before and i just love that he was able to prove them wrong and prove that he is capable of winning races and that he didn’t need red bull to do that !!
12. do you have any favorite quotes from the f1 world? this can be either inspirational or hilarious.
i have one for both! so i actually (literally today) just got an “enjoy the butterflies” tattoo (also now i match with lucy, which was not at all planned but i think it’s super funny🤭) and i also love kimi yelling “GLOVES! STEERING WHEEL AND GLOVES!” because i think it’s so funny and also because i just love kimi.

UAE is the First Ever Arab Country to Declare Parental Leave for Private Sector Employees
Tumblr media
Employees working in the private sector in UAE can now benefit from parental leave of five working days. Employees can be entitled to this leave from the birthday of their child to their six months. This leave is paid and can be availed by the baby's mother and father. This was approved as an amendment and enforced into the Labor law in August 2020 by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE.
It is notable that ‘UAE is the first Arab country to permit the parental leave to the employees of private sector’
Other Arab nations including Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Qatar do not allow the paternal leave at all. UAE is the only Arab country to permit parental leave to the employees working in the private sector.
This amendment to federal labor law shows the empathy by the government to care for their employee’s children. The law decree aims to provide secure and stabilized family cohesions for employees working in UAE. It is also a huge leap in balancing the gender, encouraging the young minds to work in the private sector and enhancing the brand image of UAE in the international market.
UAE Towards ‘World Model for Gender Balance’
The UAE government continuously initiates steps & measures through the Gender Balance Council established in 2015, ensuring that Emirati women continue to play a decision-making role in the development of the UAE. As per the directive by the president UAE, His Highness Sheik Khalifa Zayed Al Nahyan, Emirati women tend to occupy 50% of the seats in Federal National Council (FNC).
According to the world economic forum’s global gender gap report 2020, UAE advanced to 10th rank for the sub-index of wage equality for similar work. Mona Al Marri, vice president of UAE Gender Balance Council said that UAE is studying the legal constitution of Scandinavian countries, who are considered as the global leaders for gender equality, to provide a standard guideline while framing the local laws. Hence, this parental leave leaves us in no surprise to balance the gender in the working environment of the economy. It is a huge stride with the intention of retaining their female workers in the private sector.
Encourage Work in the ‘Private Sector’
‘Private Sector Youth Council’, which was launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization. This serves as the initiative ideation team to encourage UAE’s youth in the private sector in local, regional and international categories. Adding to this, the current ‘parental leave’ amendment also serves as clear evidence that the government is encouraging the youth talent pool to enter the private sector.
The ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) runs so many strategic plans with the objective to transform the job market in the UAE into the most empowering and attractive market for Emirati talents. Stay connected with our page, to get the latest updates about the UAE market.

How did you figure out/come to terms with being a lesbian? If you don't mind me asking. It was difficult enough for me to and I am very lucky with where I live/my parents not being deeply religious. I can imagine it was even more difficult for you
my parents aren’t religious either so that wasn’t a problem for me! but yeah it was hard to figure things out since i’m from quite a religious and homophobic society. it was also additionally more difficult bc of me having faced trauma when i was in my early teens, which added to the confusion i felt.
idk i think just knowing of other lesbians and having read other lesbians’ experiences helped me realise it more, but i recall feeling a way about this one girl in class and when i told this guy that pressured me to be with him, he was like “now u can finally understand how i feel about u” (bc i genuinely did not understand the concept of attraction and would always question him on it). that was what made me realise i’m into women.
it took me a while to then realise that women are like ACTUALLY attracted to guys. i just thought it was normal to find guys ugly and their bodies unattractive and to find kissing and romance cringe and nothing interesting (actually i thought maybe that made me demisexual or asexual, i didn’t even consider that maybe i’m just attracted to women & not men). i remember doing those quizzes and the kinsey scale test and so many tests repeatedly and one day i just thought to myself “i think i’m a lesbian”, i was 18 at the time and it was the first time i even allowed myself to consider it bc i didn’t even want to consider that i’m not into guys before then. i remember feeling like i got a really high fever and almost paralysed, like this massive panic that i only ever felt one other time in my life (when i realised that i erased that something extremely traumatic had happened to me). i cried and freaked out and panicked and wished it could change but i already knew for sure at that point that if nothing i had done in my life managed to “fix” this and make me into men, then nothing will. then when i first kissed a woman & we had sex, i knew there was no way i was anything but a lesbian bc even tho she was awful in bed and annoying and it wasn’t a good sexual experience, it felt.. right. it didn’t feel like i was doing something unnatural or forced for once.
luckily my mom accepted me pretty quick. i never told my dad but sometimes i feel like he knows, but i dont plan on sitting down & coming out to him ever bc he’s homophobic. in general, my situation is quite atypical for my country bc i come from a non-religious & communist family (from my mom’s side, which is the side i’m close to) and having experienced trauma and such, so i don’t have the same experience with coming out & realising my sexuality as the average bahraini lesbian. i never thought homosexuality was wrong and i was that one person fighting everyone else in class for saying being gay is a mental illness or a result of bad upbringing (& then running away crying bc they’d all gang up on me to say it is unnatural etc). the hardest part for me was coming to terms with not liking guys bc i realised i could never have a normal & complete life in my country and it made me realise that even if i WANTED to live in bahrain, i won’t be able to be happy there and would probably kill myself if i have to stay there and be closeted again.
so.. basically i had to do some introspection and gain some self-awareness and actually think about it, and then i had to listen to my feelings for once.

The Indian Rupee to Bahraini Dinar: A Currency Journey
The currency exchange rate between the Indian Rupee (INR) and the Bahraini Dinar (BHD) has always been of great interest to individuals and businesses alike. This exchange rate plays a crucial role in international trade, tourism, remittances, and investment opportunities between these two nations. Understanding the factors influencing this exchange rate can provide valuable insights into their respective economies and highlight the benefits and challenges associated with currency conversion.
The Indian Rupee has a rich history dating back to ancient times, with records of currency in various forms being used for centuries. However, it was not until 1950 that the first modern Indian Rupee was introduced. Since then, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been responsible for its regulation and preservation. On the other hand, the Bahraini Dinar has a relatively shorter history, with the currency being established in 1965. The Central Bank of Bahrain oversees the management and stability of the Dinar.
Factors Influencing the Exchange Rate
Several factors contribute to the fluctuating exchange rate between the Indian Rupee and the Bahraini Dinar. Some of the key factors include:
1. Economic Performance: The overall economic performance of both nations can significantly impact the exchange rate. Strong economic growth, high stability, and low inflation rates tend to attract foreign investors, boosting the value of the local currency.
2. Interest Rates: Differing interest rates between India and Bahrain can also affect the exchange rate. Higher interest rates usually attract international investors, increasing demand for the currency and subsequently strengthening its value.
3. Political Stability: Political stability and geopolitical events can have a substantial impact on the exchange rate. Uncertainty or disruptive events can lead to currency depreciation, affecting trade and investment flows between the two nations.
4. Bilateral Trade: The volume and nature of trade between India and Bahrain directly influence the exchange rate. A trade surplus in one country can place upward pressure on its currency, while a trade deficit can weaken it.
5. Central Bank Interventions: Central banks often intervene in currency markets to regulate exchange rates. The RBI and the Bahraini Central Bank play an important role in maintaining stability and regulating currency fluctuations through interventions.
Currency Conversion Benefits and Challenges:
The exchange rate between the Indian Rupee and the Bahraini Dinar presents both benefits and challenges for various stakeholders:
1. Benefit for Indian Expatriates: Bahrain is home to a sizable Indian community, and the exchange rate plays a crucial role in determining the value of remittances sent back to India. A favorable exchange rate can increase the purchasing power of Indian expatriates' earnings and contribute to their families' financial well-being.
2. Investment Opportunities: Individuals and businesses seeking investment opportunities between the two nations can benefit from a favorable exchange rate. It encourages foreign direct investment, promotes trade, and enhances economic cooperation.

F1: Lewis Hamilton sends coded warning to Mercedes with his long-term future in doubt
'I don't plan on going anywhere else, but we NEED to get on with things': Dejected Lewis Hamilton sends a coded warning to Mercedes over his future as he rules out a record eighth world title just one race into the new season Hamilton finished down in fifth in the Bahrain season opener earlier this month He has dismissed his championship hopes ahead of Sunday's Saudi Grand Prix The seven-time world champion's long-term future with Mercedes is in doubt  By Jonathan McEvoy for the Daily Mail Published: 18:31 EDT, 16 March 2023 | Updated: 18:31 EDT, 16 March 2023 Lewis Hamilton told Mercedes they must respond to his ‘kick’ to sort out their mess — otherwise he might be off. That was the legendary driver’s coded warning as he dismissed his hopes of winning a record eighth world championship this season. A dejected figure, who looked as if he was struggling for his mojo ahead of Sunday’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton also made cryptic comments suggesting he does not think that Formula One should be in the country. Although he held back in his criticism of the regime, seemingly for reasons of F1-Saudi diplomacy, he was more thorough in examining the failures of his team, which leaves them behind runaway successes Red Bull, as well as Ferrari and Aston Martin. ‘I have 100 per cent belief in this team, it is my family, and I have been here a long time,’ he started positively, before adding, ‘I don’t plan on going anywhere else. But…’ Lewis Hamilton (L) has sent a coded warning to Toto Wolff (R) and Mercedes over his future Hamilton endured a poor start to the new F1 season in Bahrain, finishing down in fifth place The Brit is already conceding defeat to Max Verstappen (pictured) in the championship race He paused and went on: ‘We all need a kick, and we need to get on with things. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and we have seen where the performance is and how others are extracting it. ‘We have to make some bold decisions and some big moves to close the gap. We are hopeful we can catch up, but it will be too late for the championship.’ At 38, time is not on Hamilton’s side. He is only contracted until the end of the season, and will surely assess Mercedes’ potential to challenge in the near future before recommitting. Clearly, his desire is that they can turn their fortunes around, allowing him to stay. He would rather sign off with the Silver Arrows in glory, after a decade of unmatched success, than go elsewhere. Yet, as he says, ‘but…’. Ferrari, a team he once dreamed of driving for, and Aston Martin, a coming power based on their winter transformation, would certainly both be intriguing counter-attractions. Asked about his motivation, and whether it is as high as usual given the circumstances, he said: ‘Hmm,’ before adding: ‘If you are not fighting for a world championship, despite preparing for it at the beginning of the season, you still try to prepare for the races in the same way with your mental and fitness approach.’ With his Mercedes future in doubt, Hamilton has urged the team to 'get on with things' What he estimated as a gap to Red Bull of 1.5 seconds — relative light-years — has already led to cracks appearing. After the Bahrain race Hamilton complained the team had ‘not listened’ to his advice to ditch their disastrous design long before boss Toto Wolff announced that they are now doing so. A full overhaul is taking place and a technical meeting to thrash out a way forward was held last week. Of Saudi, Hamilton made some apparently critical comments, but asked to elaborate he declined, adding: ‘What I said is open to interpretation.’ Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, a crushing winner in Bahrain, arrives in Jeddah on Friday after overcoming a stomach upset that put him out of Thursday’s media activity.
