Photo dump 2: Museums!
Walked around downtown for a bit and got lunch (no photos, maybe I'll post a haul of the dumb tourist shit I bought lmao) and then went over to the Banff National Park museum, which is a natural history museum established in the early 1900s and super cool! If you're into animals (and don't mind taxidermy) I highly suggest visiting. And admission is only $4.50 for an adult!
I was very amused by the old office of the curator, which was staged to look like it had been abandoned when he decided to hike up Sulphur Mountain (complete with note), and the hilarious vintage no smoking/please don't touch the animals signs.
Next I went to the Whyte museum, which is more of an art/history place. Currently they have an exhibit of art inspired by Lake O'Hara, including pieces from a Canadian classic JEH MacDonald, who id never heard of before. I only took one photo but there was a huuuge gallery of paintings and photos. Also, an amusing display of vintage touristy shit which I think is absolutely delightful (maybe I will become a collector?) and a painting of Catherine Whyte (one of the museum's namesakes).

Here are some photos I took when I went to my trip to Banff, Alberta, like one month ago (yeah, I know)! 🏞️
I originally wanted to carry my Meta & Magolor plushies to the West, but unfortunately, my plane ticket only allowed for one free bag, so I instead opted for the much smaller pipe-cleaner figurines I made about 3-4 years ago!
It was super fun to carry them around while I was hiking and admiring Alberta’s beauty! 🥰
For starters, Banff National Park is the fourth oldest national park in the world, and the oldest in Canada. It has a lot of unique protected fauna, flora and scenery. It’s in Alberta, not too far from Calgary, and it covers the Canadian portion of the Rocky Mountains.
More info-dumping about my trip and more photos (with or without blorbos) under the cut! 👇
This is the view from Sulphur Mountain’s summit. I went to the top thanks to a gondola (because the peak is really high).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Moraine Lake! Probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in my life. Trust me, the actual scenery is much more grandiose than in the photos!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lake Louise is not too far from there. Although its water’s color isn’t as unique as Moraine Lake’s, it looked absolutely gorgeous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll never forget the view of Lake Minnewanka, or the forests and canyons surrounding it; neither will I forget almost having a heat exhaustion from walking for too long under the sun and running out of water in the middle of the forest. 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, I present you my absolute favorite place in the park. Moraine Lake is unique, yes, but Johnston Canyon is loterally a corner of paradise; beautifully-arranged trees, rocks and plants, and absolutely gorgeous waterfalls. The droplets felt so refreshing after a long hike! My brother told me that in winter, the waterfalls freeze! What a shame! I’ll be forced to come back there another time… 😩
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course those are just the main places I’ve gone in those five days. There were also a lot of shops, restaurants, a few museums around. My hostel was awesome too, and I’ve explored a trail and ended up in some camping site in which I saw a wapiti. Here are some photos of animals I’ve taken during my trip (starting with the creature):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved this trip so much! Making this post reminded me of all the nice memories I lived in Banff. I feel lucky for having such an opportunity! It was also the first time of my life in a plane, and I did it alone (it being a domestic flight did help though)! 😄
Thank you so much for reading all this text and looking at my photos! I hope you enjoyed it, feel free to share if you want to. Have an amazing day/night… and a cookie! 🍪 Azu🦋

i would love if you'd shared everything that might be in aelin's list in a world away, all the dream places she wants to go or already went 🤧🥺
First of all - I am so sorry it’s taken me so long to answer this ask 😭
Second - this list is in no way complete. I could probably double it if I gave it some more time (and maybe I’ll edit this post and add some later) but I wanted to answer this ask.
Third - some things listed are cities, some are attractions, some are landmarks or monuments…it’s really a mix of everything. And some major landmarks that cover more than one country are only listed once.

Day 15 Banff
Today was a free day just to wander at leisure. It was a fairly lazy day for me, but still included 4 hours on my feet, and over 200 photos!
Started with a walk down The Avenue (Banff Ave), and when you look north the skyline is dominated by Cascade Mountain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did walk (south) to the Bow River, but I'll show you pics from there later . . . Most people won't think a magpie is all that exciting, but our magpies don't look like this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stopped in at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, which had some interesting interactive displays about the national parks and railways and the people behind them, but I really liked the exhibition of artworks about birds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Owl sculpture in bronze is called Slipstreaming and is by Niel Clifford
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steel sculpture called Little Bird by Peter McFarlane
Tumblr media
and this one called Owl which is ink on paper by Robert J Hope looked kind of 3D as I approached it on an angle, but I couldn't capture that effect with the camera.
Tumblr media
Okay, photos from the Bow River. I'm not sure what mountains are in these shots, maybe Norquay and Edith?
Tumblr media
This one is Mount Rundle
Tumblr media
and from the other side of the river we can look back across as Cascade Mountain.
Next stop was the Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum. Wandered through the gift shop before I went in and loved these buffalo horn carvings, but chickened out of buying the one that was begging me to take it home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The eagle near the middle of the second pic was the one I nearly bought.)
Inside they had a bunch of life-sized diorama displays, but I was mostly fascinated by the clothing/accessories, baskets etc decorated with porcupine quills and beads (which came later after trading with Europeans began).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How cool are these head pieces!
Tumblr media
Getting close to the 30 pic limit again!!! So, just a couple of pics from the grounds of the Cascades of Time Gardens.
Tumblr media
This impressive building is the headquaters/admin building for the Banff National Park. It's made from Rundle Stone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gonna say it again . . . 30 images is not enough! But then, I did have to choose from over 200! And I know I did not do justice to the things I saw with just these few, but I hope you get the idea! (and that I did not bore you with my photo spam)

Day Twenty-six
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we're back!
Spent a pleasant couple of nights by some fallen trees near Haddo Country Park. Much like Tentsmuir Forest, a lot of these woodlands have been devastated by storms in recent years, but despite some areas being quite denuded by forestry work they're still great areas full of wildlife.
But on with the show! Route 1 has tracked a good bit inland on this stretch and it's time to get back to it.
Aberdeenshire still has a lot of hills to throw out way, but a full day spent resting up has done wonders and most of the hills are now able to be tackled handily.
After continuing northwards a while we're back onto the old rail line, which gives a nice break from the climbs to allow a good run of flat terrain through to Maud, with a pretty little rail museum right on the line.
From here it's a turn westward and back into the climbs once more, and it isn't long before the weather begins to descend.
I quite enjoy wet weather riding - cycling generates a lot of heat in the body and rain helps moderate it pretty well even through waterproofs. Alas, today the big rainclouds are spread out and interspersed with good patches of bright blue sky and sun, meaning dealing with equal stretches of heavy rain and high temperatures.
This requires a good few stops to switch out gear and naturally slows progress down a good amount. though it also provides some pretty neat sights of the roads steaming in the sun even as the rains are falling on them.
Slowly but surely Turriff is reached, where the trail turns northward once more and tracks up along the River Deveron, along the hillsides with rivers of muddy water running off the fields down the roads.
After a lot of hilly slogging, the coast is finally reached once more at Banff around 3pm, where the Deveron is crossed and the supermarket is hit up for some needed supplies. I'm also treated to the ghostly sillouettes of the Highlands just visible on the horizon across the water.
There's now a ferocious headwind as we push along to Portsoy, before the route once more tracks a little inland to avoid an A road and even more hills are goven to climb up.
The weather has cleared up a little since Banff but there are more looming clouds on the horizon, but as they're a ways off yet it's more pushing onwards until Cullen is reached, where some shelter under a wide Sycamore allows passing the shower without needing to get fully geared up again.
From Cullen, the route begins to finally flatten out and once on the Moray coast trail there's some wonderful flat and smooth riding which has been enjoyable enough that I've kept on going until around half 9, when I've found a lil patch of trees past Portgordon to call home for the night.
Not a bad day's going! Sleep well!

Iconic locations like Banff and Jasper National Parks offer visitors the chance to witness awe-inspiring mountain peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and abundant wildlife.
In addition to the Rockies, Canada boasts other remarkable natural wonders. The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, can be viewed in the Yukon and Northern Territories, providing a magical experience for stargazers. The rugged beauty of the Atlantic provinces, with their picturesque coastal towns and dramatic cliffs, contrasts beautifully with the lush rainforests and fjords of the Pacific Coast. Canada’s diverse geography ensures that every region offers unique and unforgettable landscapes.
Vibrant Cities and Cultural Experiences
Canada’s cities are as diverse as its landscapes, each offering its own unique blend of culture, history, and modern attractions. Toronto, Canada’s largest city, is a bustling metropolis known for its multicultural vibe, world-class dining, and iconic landmarks like the CN Tower. Montreal, with its rich French heritage, offers a vibrant arts scene, historic architecture, and a blend of European and North American influences.
Vancouver, located on the Pacific Coast, is celebrated for its stunning waterfront, diverse neighbourhoods, and outdoor recreational opportunities. Ottawa, the nation’s capital, is home to important historical sites, including Parliament Hill and numerous museums that showcase Canada’s history and culture. Each city provides a distinct experience, making Canada a fantastic destination for urban explorers and culture enthusiasts.

In the summer, hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife watching are popular activities in Canada’s many national and provincial parks. The pristine waters of Canada’s lakes and rivers are perfect for fishing, swimming, and boating. For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, scenic drives through the countryside or along the coast provide breathtaking views and opportunities for exploration.
Rich Cultural Heritage and Festivals
Canada’s cultural diversity is one of its greatest strengths, with a rich tapestry of traditions, languages, and cuisines. The country celebrates this diversity through a wide range of festivals and cultural events. The Calgary Stampede, held every summer, showcases Canada’s Western heritage with rodeo events, live music, and local cuisine. The Toronto International Film Festival is a major cultural event that attracts filmmakers and celebrities from around the world.
Additionally, Canada’s Indigenous communities contribute to the country’s cultural richness with their own unique traditions, art, and history. Visitors can learn about Indigenous cultures through museums, cultural centres, and community events that celebrate the diverse heritage of Canada’s First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
