Okay, now that we've established that I probably love taking in-game pictures of my OT3 a little too much, let's actually get into the gameplay, shall we? Starting with me spotting a potential problem in the greenhouse after hanging all those pictures -- namely, poor Bugs the garden-bot was sparking a lot as he helped Elmer tend the plants -- and when I hovered over him, his tool tip indicated he had ZERO DURABILITY. O.O I hastily had Alice go out and turn him off, half-expecting him to explode as I have heard these bots will occasionally do -- fortunately, he did not, though he was most definitely busted after that! I had Smiler come and pick him up to repair on the robot bench while Victor and Alice took over helping Elmer finish up caring for all the plants (after a change of clothes into more appropriate gardening attire). When they weren't flirting, anyway. XD Look, as you might expect, Victor was feeling VERY romantic after renewing his vows with his wife and officially marrying his nonbinary partner. Loads of kissing was gonna happen. :) <3
Anyway, farm chores continued throughout the morning, mostly because I didn't want to leave before the greenhouse harvest and thus possibly end up with ANOTHER load of produce in the household inventory. Victor tried bonding some more with his bees, who weren't having it (though he was able to successfully get their beeswax and honey), then did a mass weeding as Alice watered and the various flowers and fruit and veggies actually spawned in. He gathered all that up and evolved those plants who could be evolved (everything is slowly but surely moving toward perfect quality!), while Smiler, done with robots, tended the chickens and Moory the cow as per usual. Everything was going pretty well --
And then it started thunderstorming. Which meant that Alice and Smiler kept wanting to go shower in the rain. *heavy sigh* Most annoying part of having Erratic Sims, I swear...though, admittedly, seeing Alice doing the laundry while naked was a little bit funny. XD Anyway, I figured this was a sign that I should wrap things up already at the house -- Alice did the laundry, put some clothes on, and made sure Kelly was in a good mood for the "pet sitter" that would be invisibly taking care of her and Shadow while they were all away; Smiler made sure Elmer was off, took a moment to reply to all their Simstube comments, grabbed their drone to make some island videos, and fixed the downstairs toilet; and Victor was the one to grab the phone and send them all on their Sulani vacation! :D

Ils ne vous rendent pas plus de services. Il y a vingt ans on pouvait déjà regarder des vidéos, passer des appels, regarder des petites annonces et consulter la presse en ligne. Il n’y a rien de nouveau sous le soleil!

Ce ne sont plus eux qui paient l’électricité mais les consommateurs. Les appareils sont plus lents car ils doivent produire les calculs de la page web. Ils consomment plus d’électricité. 
Les fournisseurs comme Facebook se vantent d’avoir diminué leur empreinte carbone de 85% et s’affichent comme étant vertueux et engagés dans une informatique durable. Alors qu’ils n’ont fait que déporter la consommation électrique dans les foyers.
Les consommateurs sont ainsi poussés à acheter des appareils plus puissants pour effectuer ses calculs et vont avoir une facture d’électricité plus salée. 
Au niveau de l’environnement, il y a de nombreux déchets électroniques polluants. La construction de nouveaux appareils est elle-aussi polluante. Les appareils à la maison sont cent fois moins efficaces à utiliser l’électricité pour la même tâche que les centres de données (les collections de serveurs). Et c’est de l’électricité dont on ne contrôle pas l’origine, surtout dans les pays en voie de développement.
Pour augmenter les profits des fournisseurs, les utilisateurs ont un service plus lent, qui consomme plus d’électricité donc qui a besoin de batteries plus grosses et avec l’obligation d’acheter de nouveaux appareils pour que ce soit utilisable . C’est une régression totale.

We’ve hit Summer Tuesday in the Valicer Chill Save as of this update, and it’s another busy one, what with Smiler’s pre-SimCity Founding Weenie Roast coming up in the afternoon! But first, you may remember that we left the gang last week dealing with a bit of a situation -- namely, Temperance having shown up and, before being scared away by one of their many bizarre idols, doing a ceremony that summoned a couple of fire-breathing specters! Alice was fortunately wolf-napping outside and thus unaware of the situation, so it was up to Victor and Smiler to take care of these furious blobs! And fortunately, they came prepared -- Victor with one of his many jars of honey, Smiler with a nice fresh glass of merlot. The pair entered the seance room and presented their gifts --
Smiler’s was accepted. Victor’s was not. *sigh* At least Smiler got the family some more wraith wax to make candles with? And both specters did end up disappearing in the end, just Victor’s one insisted on making a bit of a fuss first. I decided maybe the thing to do was to have Victor check the spiritual serenity of the house --
Only to look outside first, spot Elmer still going in the greenhouse, and be like “SHIT HOW LONG HAS THAT BOT BEEN ON?!” Because, uh, I believe they EXPLODE if they run out of battery and durability. . .so yeah, first things first, Smiler batted down to the greenhouse and shut Elmer off to tune them up later, THEN Victor started his ceremony. It went well, and the game insisted that the spiritual serenity of the house was pretty good, with “happy haunts.” Not sure how much I believe you, game, but okay!
Anyway, with that taken care of, Alice could finally awaken from her wolf nap and turn back to normal (with a creeping sense that something was up, as you can probably tell from her expression XD). I directed her to do some recycling before checking in on Smiler’s tune-up efforts --
Only to find them talking to another, friendlier specter in the barn, with Victor on his way to do the same. *grumbles* I redirected them down to poor beat-up Elmer on the workbench and decided that what Victor REALLY needed to do was use his sketchpad to make this specter a nice painting. He got a little distracted halfway through by Smiler’s presence (gotta cheer the Pristine reputation vampire :p), but mostly I was able to keep him on-task. . .

What Is a ‘Sand Battery’ 2023?
A “sand battery” is a high temperature thermal energy storage that uses sand or sand-like materials as its storage medium. It stores energy in sand as heat.

Its main purpose is to work as a high-power and high-capacity reservoir for excess wind and solar energy. The energy is stored as heat, which can be used to heat homes, or to provide hot steam and high temperature process heat to industries that are often fossil-fuel dependent.
As the world shifts towards higher and higher renewables fraction in electricity production, the intermittent nature of these energy sources cause challenges to energy networks. The sand battery helps to ambitiously upscale renewables production by ensuring there’s always a way to benefit from clean energy, even if the surplus is massive.
The first commercial sand battery in the world is in a town called Kankaanpää, Western Finland. It is connected to a district heating network and heating residential and commercial buildings such as family homes and the municipal swimming pool. The district heating network is operated by an energy utility called Vatajankoski.
The term “sand battery” was introduced to grand audience by a BBC News story published the 5th of July 2022. The story was written by BBC News’ Environmental Correspondent Matt McGrath.

What is the structure of your heat storage?
It is an insulated silo made of steel housing, filled with sand and heat transfer pipes. Additionally, equipment outside the storage is required, such as automation components, valves, a fan, and a heat exchanger or a steam generator.
How do you heat the sand?
With electricity from the grid or from local production, in both cases from fluctuating sources such as wind and solar. We charge it when clean and cheap electricity is available. The electrical energy is transferred to the heat storage using a closed loop air-pipe arrangement. Air is heated up using electrical resistors and circulated in the heat transfer piping.
How hot is the sand?
The maximum temperature in the Kankaanpää heat storage is about 600 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature may even be higher depending on customer needs. In practice, the maximum temperature of a sand-based heat storage is not limited by the properties of the storage medium, but by the heat resistance of the materials used in the construction and control of the storage.
How do you get heat out of the heat storage?
The heat storage is unloaded by blowing cool air through the pipes. It heats up as it passes through the storage, and it can be used for example to convert water into process steam or to heat district heating water in an air-to-water heat exchanger.
Why do you use sand?
Many solid materials, such as sand, can be heated to temperatures well above the boiling point of water. Sand-based heat storages can store several times the amount of energy that can be stored in a water tank of a similar size; this is thanks to the large temperature range allowed by the sand. So, it saves space and it allows versatile use in many industrial applications.
What kind of a sand you are using?
The heat storage is not very sensitive to sand grain size. We prefer high density, low-cost materials that are not from scarce sources. Someone else’s dirt could be our heat storage medium. We prefer to use materials that are not suitable for construction industry.
Does it matter what the grain size of the sand is?
Not much, we prefer to use those grain sizes that are not suitable for construction industry.
How is the heat storage insulated?
The heat storage is made of steel and insulated with standard, heat resistant insulating materials. The insulation is all around the heat storage between the outer steel layer and the inner one.
How long does the sand stay hot in the winter?
It can stay hot for months if needed, but the actual use case of the heat storage in Kankaanpää is to charge it in about 2-week cycles. The heat storage has its best range of use when it is charged and discharged 20 to 200 times per year, depending on the application.
Is the outer surface of the heat storage hot?
The surface of the storage is not hot, because the heat stays inside the storage—where it should be.
Can it store electricity?
Not as such, as it stores energy in the form of heat. The heat can be converted back to electricity using turbines like the ORC-turbine or a steam turbine. This requires additional investments to the turbine technology, and the conversion to electricity has inherent losses, thus complicating the economical side.
Is this a new technology?
