the lives of King Viserys and Queen Aemma were more secret than the passages of the Red Keep, known to few but witnessed firsthand by one. 

The Lady Serena Stark of Winterfell, younger sister of Rickon Stark and ward of Lord Rodrik Arryn of the Eyrie. Fostered with the Lady Aemma in her youth, the girls were closer than friends, and oft considered each other the sisters they never had. 

They’d been together for everything. From Serena’s first blood to Aemma’s first girlhood love, to the very moment Prince Viserys arrived in the Vale for a Tourney celebrating the birth of Aemma’s nephew and the ascension of her half-brother Jonnel Arryn as heir. 

The Maesters would say it was love at first sight for the young couple, but only Serena Stark knew the truth. And she would take that secret with her to her grave beneath the crypts of Winterfell.

Until Aemma calls her to King’s Landing to help support her through her newest pregnancy, and with an ulterior motive Serena never expected from her chosen sister. 

Her brother Bennard warns her of vipers that lay in the south, waiting to nip at her heels and poison her in her sleep, while Rickon simply waves her off without a care in the world, too focused on his heavily pregnant wife and his lack of an heir. 

But Serena does not find herself among vipers, nor dragons. Rather, she finds herself intrigued by the courtly games the lords and ladies of the south play, with a desperate need inside her to join them. But perhaps most unusual of all, she always seems to find herself under the watchful eye of the Hightower itself, and those green flames follow her wherever she goes, never moving, never turning, never submitting. 

A man like that could tear the world apart, she thinks. 

And he did.

so they were all raised by their evil stoic stark father to never gaf about anything except Respect and Honour. Women die this is their battle their war we honour their sacrifice but we do NOT end the cycle. because the cycle is tradition. look at all the thousands of bodies in the crypt none of THEM complained. so the kids are a little weird. also daenys died in 77AC when the eldest was 11 and the youngest was a couple months old so that also influenced them a lil bit ^_^ in order its serena, alarra, alaric, brandon, berena, edderion, cregan, sara, torrhen. too-long rundown:

SERENA 66AC the eldest :3 she is to daenys what daenys was to viserys ie a special child to project all your insane trauma on. has the targ colouring and a seer :) daenys+cregard betrothed her to lord blackwood; cregard because he wanted relations with the vale and daenys because she wanted her in a decent marriage and the blackwood guy is chill enough. after daenys dies cregard assigns her eldest daughter surrogate mother of the children. she prophesises her death and knows if she marries lord blackwood it will somehow kill her, but she's so tired of being a mother to her siblings that she chooses to accept this. and it makes her feel close to her mother.... she dies of apparent suicide and her husband then marries shiera strong (viserra's daughter) its a whole fckn thing cos shiera posioned her, and serena felt a call by the old gods to drown herself in the gods eye. and whether this was poison-induced or actual dream is ambiguous... anyway serena has one daughter, agnes blackwood, who ends up becoming an outlaw cos she considers herself her father's heir and not shiera's children. she has a weird relationship with viserra's daughter jeyne wayn, takes shiera's bracken-by-marriage sister hostage for a while, then gets hunted down by the Kingsguard and House Strong for that. yay^_^

ARRA 67AC stillbirth :(

ALARRA 68AC she is wilful and rides horses and a stark through and through... she's cregards favourite daughter (since she's so son-like..) but she's super mad about how he treated daenys so they have a troubled relationship. he wants to marry her into the umbers/glovers/karstarks or smthn but alarra decides to join the court of king's landing cos she's like idk might be fun. but the real reason is that she wants to understand her mother more :) cregard basically banned all talk of daenys after her death. she marries a celtigar and goes on adventures and has two daughters, Daenys and Jaenara. however to her it was like. she did that because she wanted to understand her mother. she's friends with princess daenerys :) has the most normal life out of all the kids. is a dragonrider, but dies of a dragonriding-related incident

ALARIC 68AC cregard's eldest. he is betrothed from birth to an arryn (the daughter of vaella daughter of aenys + rodrik arryn). he and alarra are twins but cregard likes alarra more and thinks alaric is prissy and a momma's boy. he would say alarra stole alaric's manhood in the womb alaric went emo after daenys died and does stark repression refusing to think about her. dies only like a year after his father idk how yet something related to his father though. he has a daughter, aregelle stark, who despite being alaric's daughter and heir is usurped by her uncle :3 also aregelle has targ colouring

BRANDON 72AC daddy's favourite son. frat boy jock. got all the worst stark and targ genes. has a silver streak in his hair and very light purple eyes. usurped his niece aregelle. despite being very targ he HATES the targs he's super gung-ho about the north. thinks his mother was a dumb woman. marries an umber but no kids with her, has a few bastards. the northerners love him :3 dies only a few years after alaric/becoming lord though. dies on a hunt after getting attacked by a wolf. might have survived but he was immunocompromised from several STDs. rip dickhead 🙏 also possiblly aregelle warged that wolf and killed him owo

BERENA 72AC brandon's twin sister. yes daenys had two sets of twins and cregard made her go to term both times god he sucks. berena is cool :) thought alarra was so cool and ruled her siblings with an iron fist. thinks brandon is a dickhead. doesnt really remember her mother. cregard marries her off to the old lord of runestone which she HATES cos he's a old hag (middle aged) but she likes leadership. is the sexy widow of runestone after lord royce's death and later on she remarries to lord arryn, vaella's eldest son, and becomes lady of the vale :)

EDDERION 73AC yes cregard made daenys have a pregnancy to term after having two sets of twins. EVIL MAN. he always clung to daenys as a child but as an adult he doesnt remember his mother well. remembers her being ill and thinks his birth made her sick :( gave him a complex. for ages as a kid he refused to believe she was dead and that she would come home soon. he goes with serena to the riverlands to foster with the blackwoods and becomes a knight, lives in king's landing for a time with alarra and at white harbour with sara. he though aregelle should rule but didnt want to fracture his family any more than it already had. was agnes' biggest advocate in regards to succession so shiera has him offed RIP ser ned 🫡

CREGAN 74AC he doesn't remember his mother, mostly flashes. has silver hair and grey eyes. middle child syndrome mostly ignored by his father. marries a dustin girl. becomes lord after alaric, brandon and edd all die so he's very sad. thinks aregelle is too weird to be lady of winterfell so doesn't disagree with his right to lordship. most normal daegard son, is able to fix relations with the other northern lords. very honourable. very very honourable. but not honourable enough to honour his niece's claim ofc

SARA 76AC was a year old when her mother died, was raised primarily by her older siblings and her septa. loves serena sooo much and feels betrayed when serena goes off to marry. cregard sent her off to the vale in hopes she would marry the arryn heir but she thought the eyrie was weird and didnt like her arryn cousins. she thought they were weird 😭 edd ended up taking her to white harbour which cregard begrudgingly agreed to. she married the manderly heir, they have a nice marriage :) names her daughter serena.

TORRHEN 77AC was like 6 months old or so when daenys died. again ignored by his father, raised by his siblings and maester mainly. married his childhood friend the odd wylla reed without his father's consent. really weird kid, had greendreams. cregard hated naming him after the king who knelt but daenys insisted and cregard was like fucking FINE god i give you everything huh. anyway he ended up killing his father WHOA PLOT TWIST. it was cos he HATED his father for how he treated daenys and his siblings. daenys was always a shadow over him since her never actually knew her but he spent a lot of time with weirwoods and got to know her through his weird dreams. he dies killing his father and wylla absconds to greywater watch with their newborn son. in 100AC wylla comes back to winterfell and she, the son (named torrhen:3) and aregelle run away to Beyond The Wall never to be heard from again. also they steal a dragon egg clutch that daenys had secretly hidden away in the crypts....

SECRET TRIPLETS yeah i did triplets FULL cringe ocs here. so after daenys and viserys are dragged out from the god's eye after the murder-suicide, three malformed little fetuses crawl out from daenys' rotting body. lol lmao. viserra quickly kills them them but she burns them after her makeshift autopsies cos they look like they're still twitching and hissing lol. also i deciced to name them danelle, theon and jon >:)

Alyna Ashford: Lady Ashford and Current head of House Ashford after her brothers were killed during the Rebellion. With no male heirs, Alyna is heir apparent though her father is eager to get her married and she produces a male heir to make her regent instead of letting her rule over the castle instead. Alyna forces stop the advance of the rivermen into the Reach and put a stop into the invasion of the Westerlands but she is finding herself under siege and in desperation. OC.

Talla Tarly: Talla Tarly is the daughter of Lord Randyll Tarly and his wife Lady Melessa Florent. Talla and her two sisters were born in three years time in between the births of their two brothers, Samwell and Dickon Tarly. It's Talla who eventually frees Margaery cousins from her father's imprisonment after the Sept of Baelor blew up and she had to blame it on a servant to keep from being punished. Canon.

Jonelle Cerwyn: Jonelle Cerwyn is a member of House Cerwyn and is the daughter of Lord Medger Cerwyn. Jonelle accompanies her father to Winterfell when Robb Stark calls his banners. Robb tells his brother Bran that Lord Medger plans to take her south with Robb's host. Although Medger claims this is so she can cook for him, Theon Greyjoy believes that Robb will one night find her in his bed. After the deaths of her father, Medger, and her brother, Cley, Jonelle has become the Lady of Cerwyn. She is present at the Ramsay and "Arya" wedding in which she recognizes Jeyne but said nothing out of fear. Canon.

Grethe Crowl: House Crowl of Deepdown is a noble house from Deepdown on the isle of Skagos in the north. They used to be a group of advanced freefolk like the Thenns who decided to move South and take seat in Skagos. Grethe is the only daughter of the previous lord and once she learns Rickon was in Skagos she sent a search party to keep him safe. However, her forces were overwhelmed by Bolton's and Rickon taken prisoner and her under lockdown in hero wn castle. OC.

Larence Snow: Larence Snow is the natural son of Lord Halys Hornwood. He is under the guardianship of Galbart Glover, Master of Deepwood Motte. He has a half-brother, Daryn Hornwood. After the death of Lord Halys Hornwood and his trueborn son, Daryn, many parties have started competing to inherit the title of Lord of Hornwood. In discussions at Winterfell during the harvest feast, Larence is seen as a possible candidate, an idea supported by Bran Stark as Larence reminds Bran of his own half-brother, Jon Snow. Larence is presumably freed from captivity by Stannis Baratheon after Asha's ironmen are defeated in the fight by Deepwood Motte. He is still pressumed the heir of Hornwood. Canon.

Brandon Tallhart is a member of House Tallhart. He is the eldest son of Leobald Tallhart and Berena Hornwood. Brandon is held captive at Torrhen's Square by the ironmen, alongside his mother, Berena Hornwood, his younger brother Beren, and his uncle's daughter Eddara. When free from captivity, Brandon supports his cousin Eddara as the new lady of House Tallhart and support the attack on Winterfell to reclaim it for the Starks. Canon.

Eddara Tallhart is the daughter of Ser Helman Tallhart. After the deaths of her father, Helman, and elder brother, Benfred, Eddara becomes the Lady of Torrhen's Square. Eddara is held captive by the ironmen at Torrhen's Square, following its capture by Dagmer. While she holds Theon Greyjoy responsible for what he did to the Starks and the ironborn invasion, she has it in her heart to set it aside as she was a good friend with Jeyne Poole as a child and the girl had said he was the only thing that kept her sane while imprisoned. Canon.

Justin Massey is a knight from House Massey, and a queen's man. The fair knight has a neatly-trimmed blond beard. His tunic displays the triple spiral of House Massey. Stannis Baratheon refers to Justin as "the smiler", and Clayton Suggs considers him a "prancing fool". Justin once squired for Robert Baratheon, from whom it is said he acquired his appetite for women. Justin is among the knights who go north to the Wall with Stannis, to defend the Seven Kingdoms from the free folk army of Mance Rayder. Justin Massey persues Asha Greyjoy into a marriage during his time at the Wall and under Stannis' army. When the battle is lost, he retreats into the North. Canon.

Freyia Knott: House Knott is a mountain clan in the north. In Winterfell, the head of the mountain clan are addressed by the title "Lord Knott" but their clan folk call them "The Knott". The clan lives in the hills and mountains north of the wolfswood. King Stannis Baratheon travels to the northern mountains, gaining many clans for his fight by Deepwood Motte and march on Winterfell. Formerly as well as house Crowl, freefolk who bend the knee, the clan still take some freefolk ways and seeing the wieldings follow Jon Snow into battle, Freyia decides to pledge herself to his cause as well. OC.

Irri: Irri is a Dothraki handmaid to Daenerys Targaryen. She and Jhiqui are of an age with Daenerys Targaryen. Irri was born to a khal of a khalasar. It was destroyed by Khal Drogo, and she was enslaved. Irri, Doreah, and Jhiqui are given to Daenerys Targaryen by Viserys Targaryen as wedding gifts to serve as her handmaids. She is given to Daenerys to teach her how to ride horses in the Dothraki style. She stays with Daenerys, even after the death of Khal Drogo and the disintegration of his khalasar. Irri becomes a paramour to the lonely Daenerys for a time. Irri accompanies Daenerys to Daznak's Pit as part of the royal procession. She and Jhiqui both depart Meereen as part of the search parties dispatched across the Skahazadhan to locate Daenerys after she disappears on Drogon's back. Canon.

House Barstark, one of the most prestigious cadet branch of House Stark, holds a crucial role in the North, safeguarding the territories around the Barrowlands and the edges of the Neck. As the first line of defense for the North against potential invaders who manage to traverse the treacherous Moat Cailin, the Barstarks have a long and storied history.

The most treasured possession of House Barstark is Gravewalker, a striking bronze blade forged by the First Men. This ancient weapon possesses an unnatural sharpness and was discovered in the depths of the Feast Cairn, a testament to the house's deep connection with its ancestral lands.

Barstarks are known for their distinct appearance, characterized by slate-black hair and pale hazel eyes. Their gaunt features and unnaturally lithe physiques distinguish them from their Stark relatives.

House Barstark's origins can be traced back to the tumultuous days of the Andal Invasion. Beren Snow, a Stark bastard, rose to prominence when he saved the beautiful and only daughter of the Lord Dustin from the invading Andals. Beren and the Lady Dustin were quickly wed and adopted the name Barstark, establishing their seat in the ancient holdfast of the Feast Cairn, nestled near the borderlands of the Neck. 

Throughout the annals of history, House Barstark has played a significant role in the affairs of the North.

House Barstark followed Torrhen Stark to face the Targaryen dragons. However, when Torrhen bent the knee to Aegon Targaryen, the Barstarks, like many Northern houses, were outraged. They swiftly left the war camp and returned to the Feast Cairn, rejecting any summons or visitors. Records of the following years are spotty, but some collected accounts tell of House Barstark treachery as they raided across the North, attacking any and all travelers heading to Winterfell

The Barstark banners flew during the Targaryen civil war, supporting the northern forces alongside a handful of other noble houses.

House Barstark was a pillar of support for Cregan Stark's forces during the Hour of the Wolf in King's Landing. After Cregan's resignation, the Barstarks remained in the South for nearly a year, waiting for the worst of the winter to pass. When they finally returned to the Barrowlands, Lord Theomar Barstark brought with him his new wife, Lady Myranda Mooton.

In the pivotal conflict of Roberts Rebellion, the Barstarks played a role not previously anticipated. Sent ahead of Lord Eddard Stark to scout around King's Landing, they inadvertently found themselves joining the Lannister forces in the siege of the city. Tragically, most of the Barstark men were incinerated during the Immolation, leaving only a young lad of 15, Errold Barstark, to walk away from the fiery catastrophe.

Today, House Barstark stands firmly behind the newly refounded Barrowkings and enjoys a prominent position of power and influence. Berena Barstark, twin sister to Lord Tomard "the Hungry Lord" Barstark, serves as the current Barrowqueen.

God the potential for Berena's self-hating backed villain arc/identity shift into a "true Lannister" (or her basically sipping the koolaid of the Lannister propaganda Jamie/Cersei have as the corner stone of their identities/relationship) as the "wife" of both Jamie/Cersei (they share a soul so of course in their minds they share a wife) as a way to both distance herself from the grief of being one of the last surviving stark kids AND as a way to punish herself for that very same thing (how dare she get to live while Lyanna doesn't)

A castle the size of Winterfell truly was an enclosed city – countless people always coming and going, and it was impossible to know all of them by name or even just their face, though Berena Stark did make a point to try.

And a visiting prince means even more strangers, she thought as she discreetly followed one such stranger down the corridor leading to her family’s bedchambers. In accordance with time-honored tradition, her parents had given Prince Maekar their bedchamber while they took her oldest brother Donnor’s bedchamber and he had moved to the Guest House. Berena slipped into a hidden corridor meant for servants’ use then went to her parents’ bedchamber and hid herself behind the carved wooden screen. She only had to wait a moment before the door opened just enough for the catspaw to sneak into the room. He was young, no more than twenty, and nervous. An unsheathed dagger tucked into his belt caught the light.

You’d think he’d know better than to keep a naked blade by his manhood. Berena waited until he hid in the shadows along the far wall before she took a deep breath then she slipped out from behind the screen. The catspaw’s eyes widened when he saw her but she had to respect him for holding his ground.

“You’re from the south, are you not? As well as your employer?” she asked calmly as she approached him. “No man of the North would be so craven as to attack a man in his bedchamber, especially a protected guest. Here, we still hold hospitality sacred.”

“Obviously not or you would recognize Lord Stark’s elder daughter.” The man reached for the dagger but Berena grabbed it first then she pushed him against the wall and held the blade to his neck, pressing just enough to be felt. “My lord father believes a woman should be able to defend herself. He taught my sister and I personally how to fend off any man who might attack us.”

“I’ve done nothing-” he protested, his eyes wide.

Her calmness slipped as the thought of what she could have lost hit her hard. “You came here to assassinate my betrothed, my one chance at marrying a prince. Did you think that I would just let you? No, nothing will stand in the way of my happiness.” She pressed the blade further into his neck until a bead of blood began to form. She was so focused on the catspaw that she didn’t realize they weren’t alone until a man’s hand reached out from behind her to gently wrap around her hand holding the dagger and pull it away from the catspaw’s neck.

The catspaw pushed her away then tried to escape but he ran into two guards who grabbed him and dragged him out of the room. Berena’s heart was racing and she took a deep breath before turning around. Just as she thought, Prince Maekar Targaryen, her betrothed, was standing before her. What she didn’t expect was that his eyes were dancing.

“Going by my first impression,” he said, amused, “I was worried we would bore each other to death but I see now you’re as fierce as your House’s sigil would suggest. I think we’ll get along well, Lady Berena.”

She raised an eyebrow but couldn’t help smiling back. “Northern ladies are as genteel as any southron lady and twice as fierce.”

“I’m willing to bet you are even fiercer and more genteel than most and I am eager to know you better.”

Beony Beesbury (b. approx. 260 AC): Wife of Raymund Frey, eleventh son of Lord Walder Frey, and mother of seven children. Fancast: Amelia Gething.

Berena Hornwood (b. approx. 260 AC): Wife of Leobald Tallhart, the castellan of Torrhen's Square, and mother of two children. Fancast: Hanna Mangan Lawrence.

Berena Stark (b. approx. 200 AC): Elder daughter of Lord Beron Stark of Winterfell and his lady wife, Lorra Royce. Beron was a grandson of Lord Cregan Stark through his father Brandon, Cregan’s youngest child. Fancast: Jodie Dorday.

Bess Bracken (main series era): Fourth daughter of Lord Jonos Bracken of Stone Hedge. My own headcanon: Bess is "half a peasant" and often dresses like a common woman, spending her time with servants. Fancast: Camilla Belle.

Bessa (d. approx. 290 AC): A girl of Hag's Mire, murdered by Chett after she rejected him. Chett fled afterwards, but was caught and made to take the black. Fancast: Phaedra Hurst.

Bessa (main series era): A tavern wench at the Smoking Log Inn in the winter town outside Winterfell. Fancast: Gwyneth Keyworth.

Beth Cassel (b. approx. 289 AC): Only surviving daughter of Ser Rodrik Cassel, master-at-arms of Winterfell. She is raised alongside the Stark girls. When Winterfell is taken by Theon Greyjoy, he uses her as a hostage to try and prevent her father from attacking. However, Ser Rodrik's army is wiped out by Ramsay Snow and Beth is taken as a prisoner to the Dreadfort. Fancast: Fifi Hart.

Betha Blackwood (b. 201 AC): Wife of Aegon V Targaryen and queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Betha and Aegon married for love long before he became king, when Aegon was so far back in the line of succession that it did not matter who he married. They had five children together. Fancast: Ginnifer Goodwin.

Bethany Blackwood (b. 292 AC): Only daughter of Lord Tytos Blackwood of Raventree Hall. She has six brothers. Fancast: Anna Paquin.

Bethany Bracken (c. 160-178 AC): Mistress of Aegon the Unworthy and sister of one of his previous mistresses, Barba. Bethany was groomed by her father and older sister to steal the position of king's mistress from Melissa Blackwood. When Aegon visited Stone Hedge to see his bastard son, Aegor Rivers, Bethany caught his eye and he took her back to King's Landing with him. However, she began an affair with Ser Terrence Toyne, a knight of the Kingsguard, leading to the execution of Ser Terrence, herself, and her father. Fancast: Ellise Chappell.

Sunday Six, Maekar x Berena - Sharing a dessert

Maekar had to admit that Berena's selection when it came to the dessert was exquisit.

They currently were both enjoying a shared chamomile tiramisu. "This is delicious," he admits.

Berena gives him a knowing look, "I know, I love eating things with flowers and this is one of the best examples of floral flavors that I've tasted outside of my kitchen."

"And I hope you know that now I'm eager to taste your own creations, Berena," He says and he's not lying, he'd never given a thought at cooking or baking with flowers.

Berena dips her spoon in the tiramisu, cuts a piece and offers it to him, "And you shall, dear, you shall."
