How to Assess the Quality of a Laparoscopic Training Center
Choosing the best laparoscopic training center requires careful scrutiny. Below are some key factors to consider for making an informed decision.
Visiting the center and observing a training session
Start by visiting the center. This presents an opportunity to assess the infrastructure and observe a training session. It will give you a feel of the practical, hands-on approach to training, making it an essential phase of the evaluation process.
Reviewing the credentials and expertise of the faculty
A strong faculty is a crucial benchmark of a good training institute. Assess the qualifications, accolades, and teaching experience of the instructors. An expert faculty will have a combination of sound theoretical knowledge and significant practical experience in laparoscopic surgery, especially in specialized areas like gynecology.
Inquiring about the support and guidance offered after the training program
Ensure that the institute offers robust post-training support. This could include continued access to training materials, mentorship opportunities or ongoing evaluation and guidance.
Checking the success rate and testimonials from previous trainees
A good indicator of a center's quality is the success rate of its past students. Check testimonials, talk to previous trainees about their experience, and review the career growth of the alumni.
Researching the center's reputation and industry recognition
Finally, consider the reputation of the institute among industry peers. Watch out for any awards or recognitions garnered. Recognition from a trusted authority or an industry body is a positive indicator of the center's commitment to high-quality standards.

Tips for Choosing the Best Hands-On Laparoscopic Training Center
Choosing the best laparoscopic training center or institute can make a significant impact on your surgical skills and career trajectory. Here are some tips to guide your decision-making process.
Assess Your Personal Goals and Needs
Before considering any training center, it's essential to define your personal goals and needs. What specific procedure do you want to learn? Are you looking for a general course or a specialized course, like gynecology laparoscopic surgery? Define these ahead of time to ensure the institute you choose aligns with your requirements.
Consider the Cost and Location of the Training Center
A good center may not always be the most expensive or located in a major city. If the center provides worthwhile, hands-on laparoscopic training, it may be worth the other associated costs. However, remember to consider travel and accommodation costs if the center is far from your current location.
Seek Recommendations from Trusted Sources
Speak to colleagues or senior professionals who have already undergone such training. Their insights can prove invaluable in making an informed choice.
Compare the Features and Curriculum of Different Centers
Not all centers offer the same level of training or curriculum. Look for a comprehensive curriculum, covering theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to ensure you get a balanced training experience.
- Theoretical knowledge: Background, indications, contraindications, complications, pre- and post-operative care aspects. - Hands-on experience: Actual procedure exposure, simulator training, suturing practices, etc.
Take Advantage of any Trial or Introductory Sessions Offered
Many centers offer trial or introductory sessions of their laparoscopic training. Take advantage of these opportunities. It will give you a real-time experience of their teaching methods, the competence of faculty, and the quality of the infrastructure.
Conclusion
Recap of the Importance of Choosing the Best Hands-On Laparoscopic Training Center
In a field as exacting and precise as laparoscopic surgery, the importance of excellent hands-on training cannot be overemphasized. It is critical to choose a top-tier laparoscopic training center or institute that not only offers a comprehensive curriculum but also emphasizes significant hands-on experience.

In this essay I will talk about how Rick could have made Jason a more interesting character to more people
Im not joking, Drews is next and why she really wasnt that bad of a person, just a traumatized teen
CW FOR MAJOR SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT FINISHED ALL THE BOOKS!!!!
Tumblr media
Starting off I fully believe most people didn't like Jason because he was a random new guy, like we were expecting Percy and got some amnesiac and didn't get to see out hero happy and living his life for the entire book, and he was so confused most the time, because he fully didn't remember anything, he wasn't even given the same fake memories to try and act normal, he didn't know his own name when he woke up on that bus, we had to personality to go off of at the start, because HE DIDNT KNOW WHO HE WAS! People always say Leo was the best out of the lost trio and that's because so many people could relate to him, he used humor to cover stuff up, like everyone's favorite mc did (Percy). Piper had her own struggles, like finding out who she thought was her boyfriend, didn't know who she was, she was being manipulated and her dad was being held hostage as she was told to kill her friends, and she AND Leo were in a WILDERNESS SCHOOL. A. WILDERNESS. SCHOOL. I got off topic, sorry, but piper had so many of her own stuff she was working through in the way she thought was correct, by lying and hiding things. Jason had nothing, he knew he didn't remember anything and he was sad. Leo had a personality and was content separate to them, obviously he had issues but he was the most similar to Percy, so fans liked him the most (imo)
Now, onto how rick could have made Jason better
made him actually an awesome fighter, he killed monsters with his bare hands and was raised by wolves since two, he should have been equal to or even better than Percy with muscle memory and all, which yeah he had but he still should have had a more feral side to him, he was said to climb the ranks at camp Jupiter and was a bit more wild than other romans, I think it would have been interesting to see Jason use his instincts more and be a little feral when he lost his memory, not having his camp Jupiter training but muscle memory and instincts to guide him and keep him going
He should have been more separated from Percy, he was not a comparison to Percy and I don't like that was how he was written, I don't have much to say about this but I really didn't like when they both sat at the head of the table
He should have gotten his memories back like percy did, He never got to learn who he was or what he stood for in the past because he never got to get those back, even after the war ended hera/juno didnt return them, which I think would have made a really interesting ending to TLH, or getting them during the quest or something, but he dies without knowing who he was, only a pawn for the gods
Have had mention of him previously, like a picture thalia had and thats why she even agreed to bring annabeth, because she reminded her of jason, or just that she even HAD a little brother so readers could have had a fun plot twist and even more of a heart warming reuniting scene
Adding to that a bit i think thalia and jason really should have had more time together, like maybe in toa mentioning that thalia had been visiting jason when she could to catch up on lost time, to be siblings again and try to live as normally as possible. (off topic but i think the jason/luke comparisons are 50/50, i like others seeing it and Thalia at first but removing the idea immediately because at one point she liked luke and jason is her baby brother)
Let him be awake during fight scenes
I think jason could have grown more, and adapted a mix of fighting, a bit roman, a bit greek, and a bit feral, to match how his life was
when we see him in toa i think it would have been fun to see how much he had grown, experimenting with new styles (maybe a bit more alt considering his older sister, but he was at a boys school so maybe outside of it?) Just, growing into himself and not focusing on the gods as much, he lived and died for them, without much in return
Let us know who his friends were before he lost his memories, like have percy seens people asking around or being asked if he had seen a blonde gut about yae high, named jason, just stuff like that to show he had a community or at least someone who truly cared he was gone
Tumblr media
Ik it was more of a list but yk, also sorry for the lack of punctuation, i forget it exists unless its an excessive amounts of commas, i like commas, and forget to capitalize my I's
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Alright, because of the post I just reblogged off of you: Grace Blackthorn. I love her, too. If you were given free rein to write her character's story post-canon, what would you do with her given the confines of her existing ending? I personally think I would remove her from London altogether and send her to another Institute for a fresh start.
Grace. All right. There is a lot I'd want to rewrite about her direction if I could control canon, but alas, I can't and it wasn't the question.
As for post-canon, I would indeed remove her from London too. It's makes the most sense considering all the memories in London, many distressing, and the reminders of what she did in the past and what was done to her for those actions. I truly think anyone who gets locked up in the Silent City for any amount of time emerges with a slight shift of mind. Plus, while I doubt many of the remaining TLH cast would realistically stay in London their whole lives, I do think Grace would benefit more from a distance between herself and, at least, James and Cordelia.
I'm not sure which Institute I would think best for her to go. There's a decent amount of scientific innovation that goes on in France, but somehow I feel it's not the place Grace would want to be. I don't know how many men Tatiana pimped her out to, nor can I recall whom they were and where they were from, but I just feel like even the entirety of France and it's diverse areas would not quite be her scene for healing.
Because that's what I'd write for Grace post-canon. Healing. I want to see how she does not quite wrestle with guilt - because how can you feel bad for doing what you needed to survive? - but does struggle with the ghost of Christopher. It would hurt anyone pretty bad if the one person who unwaveringly stood by your side and cared about you when they did not have much reason to, who encouraged you to find that last piece to complete their life's work, just died. And died by the hands of your adoptive family, no less. This is one my nit picks because I wish we had seen Grace defeat Tatiana rather than Cordelia - it would have felt more significant, in my eyes. She had more emotional stake in it.
Anyway, I would send Grace perhaps to another Institute located in the UK, actually, or Ireland. I do not think she would be comfortable going to Idris, simply because while she is more open to the Shadowhunter identity, she would still have a lot of complicated feelings there and it'd be a lot more difficult to sort out when also living in the country where your orphanage was. And I also would not send her to America (sorry, I know, there was a fanfic where this happened and I fully respect it, it's just not what I would have done (I also know more about other countries than I do about America, so I'm more comfortable dealing with them)). Ultimately, while I'm thinking this out, I'm settling on Ireland because I think it feels removed enough for Grace to feel like she can breathe and, if all the stories are true, it's the centre of a lot of supernatural activity, especially involving Fair Folk.
I point this out because I think Grace is the kind of person who has to keep busy to keep going. I feel like she spent too much idle time as Tatiana's ward and wouldn't want to be reminded of that. I'd write about how she works the day investigating local Fair Folk issues involving mundanes and others (I think she also shares Kit's close ties to Downworld, if not so comfortably to begin with but gradually more so) and training, then goes for patrols every couple of nights or so, before letting herself relax, exhausted, before some fireplace and allowing herself to feel what she feels so she can eventually move on. She might still work with scientific invention, because she does indeed seem curious, but I think it'd be some time before she really got into it again.
Basically, I want to write Grace in grief for all she has lost, and taking the time to go through that and heal each wound in her, before we look at things like whether she ever has romantic interest again, who she befriends, whether she reconnects with anyone from the London Enclave, and so on. I think she might reach out to Lucie first (I would argue she still writes letters to Jesse anyway) just because of their potential for a decent friendship and their previous partnership. And I am always looking for f/f ships, so a little part of me wants Grace/Lucie, but considering canon Lucie/Jesse and how important that is - I'll leave it alone. Close female friendships are also brilliant and we do need more of them even in TSC.
But anyway, I think I've rambled long enough. Hopefully that was a satisfactory answer to your question. I really enjoyed thinking through this and sharing.

What Went Down - Grace and Jesse Missing Scene
Hi all! A few days ago, I wrote down ideas for one shots set during Chain of Thorns (missing scenes) or after the epilogue. Warning: spoilers! I've seen a lot of people disliked that Jesse and Grace never properly talked after she told him about the gracelet and was upset with her. So I've written this one shot about their confrontation later, after Grace gets to the Institute, post Chapter 26 for those who want context. Enjoy! And as usual, if you want me to write stuff for you, you can send me an ask. I like to write about anyone from the TLH/TID era so feel free to hit me with requests if you want. Read this one shot on my A03 🌹
Someone knocked on the door, and Grace’s shoulders shook. She had been reading Kit’s papers all over again, looking for a way to make the fire messages work. The sound broke her reverie, which she had been drowning in for hours. The city was eerily silent after Belial had cast away shadowhunters and reduced mundanes to lifeless dolls. Grace found she could not sit still. She didn’t want the others to act, while she took shelter because she wasn’t trained and useless if the Watchers would strike again. She had to act. She wouldn’t be regarded as a nuisance. She already felt like one. But there was no place she could have come to, if not here. After all, this was the London Institutes. And Grace, despite her lack in shadowhunter education, knew that Institutes had to welcome anyone who sought refuge.
Grace glanced back at the door, and set the papers aside. Whoever it was, she knew they wouldn’t take long. No one really paid attention to her, and she didn’t like to talk that much.  “Come in,” she muttered, her voice barely a whisper. She rose from her chair, unable to stop herself. She had been, after all, instructed in good manners by her moth- Tatiana Blackthorn. Old habits die hard.
She first saw the intruder’s hand as he gripped the door frame before peeking out his head and making eye contact with her. She feared, for a moment, that it would be James. But James and Matthew disappeared with Belial, she told herself. And James made it clear he wouldn’t want to be around her, that it hurt him to even spare her a glance. It couldn’t be anyone but Jesse, her brother. Her brother, her only lifeline. The only person who made her days at Chiswick less gray and empty. Jesse, whom she feared was still angry at her after she told him about her powers.
“Gracie,” Jesse said, his voice firm but calm. “Can we talk?”
“About what?” she asked. “I don’t know what we should talk about.” Her voice was resigned and cold.
Her brother’s expression was stern, as if he was weighing the words to say. “Are you okay?” he wondered, closing the door behind him.
Grace sighed. “My feet are healing,” she answered with a shrug. “Thanks for asking.”
“What about the rest?”
She tried not to show any emotion, as she was used to, but another deep sigh escaped her mouth. “Mama is dead,” she said. Every time she thought about Tatiana, she shivered. “I feel relieved,” she glanced away, instinctively putting her arms around her torso for protection. “Aren’t you?”
It was Jesse’s time to sigh. Grace could tell that he was trying to give her his best answer. He didn’t like to rush his thoughts, and their mother had always been a tough topic for them. They rarely talked about Tatiana. “Her reckless actions were the cause of her downfall,” he spoke with calmness, looking at her while he did so, his gaze level with hers. “And her wrong alliances contributed to her demise. I’m relieved that she can’t do more harm, however…”
“Do you think she could have been saved?” Grace wondered, curious.
Jesse shook his head without preamble. “No,” his voice was stern. “She was beyond saving,” he said as a matter of fact, but Grace could hear the bitterness and lost hope in his words. “And it angers me, so very much, that I did not notice the signs of corruption before.”
Grace saw him clench his fist, and realized the depth of his rage. Jesse rarely raised his voice. He was always patient, gentle. All the things their mother was not. “She hid everything from you,” Grace muttered. “She ordered me not to tell you anything.”
He sighed, and came closer to his sister. “That’s why you never told me,” he mused, “about the enchanted bracelet and your powers?”
She bit her lip, and nodded. “Yes,” she confirmed, her voice low. “I was afraid you’d react – the way you reacted,” she revealed. “That you would hate me.” The cat was out of the bag now, wasn’t it? She had already told him the truth. She wasn’t afraid to confirm it. She decided she wouldn’t be scared anymore and would tell the people she cared for how she felt. “But I accept it. I accept it if you feel this way about me.”
Jesse was frowning again, and she could tell he was debating what his next words would be. “Grace, no,” he said firmly. “You should have told me,” he added, “but I understand why you didn’t. I do, now, understand how much that woman mistreated and used you. Forced you to do things against your will.”
“She forced me, yes. But I-I ended up doing those things anyway. I ended up being her tool.”
Something changed in Jesse’s features. His expression softened, but he still looked angry. And Grace realized that he was probably enraged because of this whole situation. Because of her. She braced herself for what would come next. She was sure that Jesse would keep silent and leave, as he did when he used to be a ghost. On the other hand, Jesse cut the remaining distance between them and hugged her gently. He caressed the back of her head and she relaxed.
“I’m sorry,” he spoke quietly, “I’m sorry, Grace. I’m sorry for what she did to you. I’m sorry for not realizing before –” there was a subtle strain in his voice, as if he was furious at himself. Grace realized he probably felt guilty too. “I’m sorry for not protecting you as I should have.”
Grace inhaled his scent. It was weird, she thought, that she could smell Jesse. That she could touch him. She hadn’t realized that she was holding the sleeve of his jacket, just like she did when she was little and he was much taller than her. She found herself starting to cry. She had cried a lot in the last two days, while hiding in her room and going over Kit’s papers. She had cried tears for the understanding of minds that she had had with him in the briefest of time they had shared together. These were a different sort of tears. These were tears of relief.
“Don’t you hate me too, brother?” she dared to say that word. “I should apologize to you.”
“I never hated you,” Jesse said. “I do not condone what you did while you had your power,” he said gravely. “You don’t need my forgiveness nor should you apologize to me. You didn’t hurt me, Grace. You should only apologize to those who suffered because of Tatiana’s actions – and don’t beat yourself up, because you’re also a victim in all this. It’s too late to change things, but it’s not late to forgive yourself and to start anew.”
If you only knew that our mother wanted me to use the power on you – Grace thought, but didn’t say it. No. She would spare her brother this. She was now free of her power, of her curse, of her mother. She would try to leave these memories in the past, and try to move forward. At least Jesse would be there.
“It’s hard to think about starting anew when a demon literally has London in his grasp,” she commented, sighing. “And we could all die here.”
She broke the embrace and looked at Jesse. He watched her with a quizzical expression. “We won’t,” he said, and Grace appreciated his confidence and positivity. It made her believe that they could really pull this off, and defeat their enemy. They did defeat Tatiana, even though Grace knew she would linger in their minds and memories for the rest of their lives. She left them scars she wasn’t sure would ever heal. Jesse looked at the papers behind her. “Doing something I could help you with?”
Grace was glad that they put this behind them, at least. She managed a smile. “I was rereading Christopher’s papers about fire messages, but I can’t understand what’s wrong.”
“Want to read them with me? See if I can be of help?” Her eyes lit up, and she offered her brother a bigger smile. She thanked him, and then they set to work and read the papers once again. For the first time, she felt the future was hopeful. She hoped the feeling would last.

Had a lot of mini dreams in Chicago. Lime and I had fun laughing about these.
We were walking through downtown Chicago and I spotted a hair salon so I said “you want to go get your hair done?” Lime said yes so we went into the 7-eleven.
I was walking alone through the maze that is the con. I kept screaming for Lime but it was nowhere to be found. It was empty except for cardboard cuttouts of people in cosplay. At some point Lime grabs my hand and I stop freaking out.
Lime and I sat at the TLH booth and it was 8:45. I look up to Leif and say “let’s get going, we’re going to miss our train.” - funny thing about this is I had this dream while on the train back home 😂
It was raining and we needed to get somewhere. We ran through the streets laughing about everything that happened. The cars lights were blinding but we didn’t care. The only thing that mattered was running. We reach a grass patch and lay down on it. We were absolutely soaked, might as well have went swimming.
Dad and Lime were scolding me for trying to kill myself. We were standing on the edge of the building and they kept pushing me back to the middle. I was crying and desperate so I sprinted trying to get passed Dad but he caught me and dragged me to a ditch? In the middle of the building. Lime stood guard making sure I couldn’t do anything. I tried escaping. I struggled and squirmed but Dad was too strong and everything was too much. I fainted then woke up - that was the first dream I had. Lime woke me up by scratching at my head but I was just awake enough to be startled by it. I didn’t remember the dream at the time.
There were so many more but I don’t remember them sadly. Best trip ever. I can’t wait until Lime and I go to London together. 😁

Skiing Safety Within The Wilderness A Heli-ski Primer
Skiing in powder is very comparable to skiing hard packed slopes with a few specific variations. Although in some situations leaning again is warranted, it normally solely causes fatigue, makes for unnatural movement and gives you drained thighs (quadricep muscles). The hands ought Heli skiing to be positioned comfortably out front where you'll be able to see them. If your arms path behind you, the physique usually follows and you discover yourself leaning back in that unnatural locked up stance. You should exaggerate many motions including rotation to make a flip in that position.
Because of the inherent dangers involved in heli-skiing, Canada’s operators take safety extremely critically. At TLH Heliskiing, every guest is issued a Vario ABS avalanche survival backpack. Heli-skiing is not always perfect, it's mountain skiing in a completely uncontrolled setting. The aim is to provide the greatest skiing out there every single day however since we don't management the climate, one of the best skiing some days could also be very tough and/or in the bushes. The Association of Canadian Mountain Guides and the Canadian Ski Guide Association supply training and accreditation for guides, HeliCat Canada says.
There are a number of completely different resorts and helicopter corporations to choose from, so you'll find the best package deal on your capability degree and price range. If all or a half of your group is excited about heli-skiing, Whistler is a great vacation spot, as it supplies something for everyone! Kids can be part of a ski faculty program for the day whereas they expertise unbeatable massive mountain terrain by helicopter. There are a couple Heliski of primary ski resorts in British Columbia that offer heli-skiing, together with Whistler Blackcomb, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and Panorama Mountain Resort. All these resorts provide totally different terrain and different levels of difficulty, so it is important to choose the right one for your capacity stage. A great information will assist elevate your heli-skiing experience from good to nice.
With over one hundred fifty,000 acres at our disposal, our heli and boarding terrain is both vast and breath taking. I can see how skiers get hooked on the expensive heli-ski behavior. After having millions of snowy acres to ourselves, it is onerous to return to the confines and crowds of the common ski resort. I was also reassured that safety Heliskiing is high precedence, with the guides' constant snow pack and avalanche evaluation, I can make the educated argument that you're safer heli skiing than driving to a ski resort, or skiing a busy trail. Snow Conditions Snow circumstances vary significantly over winter and alter almost every day.
Imagine infinite miles of big-mountain terrain so far as the eye can see, and an ideal slope of untracked powder beneath your skis simply waiting to be ripped. You drop in along with Heli skiing Canada your buddies, turn on the Go-Pros and make your individual ski porn. This and rather more comes with the ultra-adventure experience of heli-skiing. Our most unique package deal
Coté started flying helicopters in his early 20s, however – like Doty – he didn’t get into heli-ski piloting for a while. He’s lived and worked in Revelstoke as pilot since 1995 but didn’t begin working as a heli-ski pilot till the final 20 years. “You’re dealing with terrain – steep terrain – and difficult terrain, and obstacles. After savouring the previous few minutes in his mattress, Doty is up at 6 a.m., in his truck, and out to the Hillcrest Hotel for the STHS morning meeting Heli skiing BC. The meetings cowl everything from weather, snow circumstances, to passenger weight (which elements into gas calculations) and guaranteeing the all-important half mile of visibility. “Everyone to my left,” Gertsch says as he leads us down a billowy slope near the remote southeast fringe of Glacier National Park.
Today, Bell 212 helicopterscan ferry teams of up to 10 skiers and two guides. Half a century after helicopters first transported daredevil recreational skiers excessive into the mountains of British Columbia, heli-skiing continues to be the last word alpine rush for many. Every run leads via unspoiled snow — a resort skier may not get this many fresh tracks in a whole season. If I had my climbing skins on, it will take days to ski an identical quantity of vertical. The firm Gmoser founded—headquartered in Banff, Alberta—now has gross sales reps around the world and a fleet of 11 lodges throughout B.C. CMH is the titan of the industry, however with tens of millions of dollars of capital invested in lodge infrastructure, it has to remain nimble to keep beds and helicopter seats stuffed in the face of competition.

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
⭐⭐⭐.5
Credit where credit's due, I did enjoy this book a bit, so I'll talk about some of the good points as well as why this book not only didn't work for me overall, but also put me off reading anymore of Hazelwood's writings.
Things I liked: - A lot of the humor. I did cringe at times, and just like The Love Hypothesis I think a lot of the jokes were more "I think this would sound funny" instead of "it's actually making me laugh so I'll put it in." Make sense? But ultimately, I did laugh quite a few times. - I do like some of the subtle bits of sexism presented in the STEM space, especially when a character would respond one way to Bee but differently to Levi. I think it was well-done and realistic without being over the top. - Levi. - The characters. The cats. All very likable. Especially Levi. Things I disliked: - I really hope both Schmac's idenitity and Guy's big reveal weren't meant to be a surprise because by the gods was this book predictable. Nothing came as a shock. This book panders so hard that the second I spotted the blonde guy, I knew he was evil. Same way with TLH which I was also right about. - Which brings me to my second point, and the thing that really lowered the rating. I've grown to be very, very sick of the white woman's self-righteousness. I don't like to harp on this too much, but when the main character who happens to be the whitest of white women to ever white harps on the love interest's music tastes because it composes of white male musicians, then I'm officially calling bull. For all the mention this book gives of Sausage Referencing, which is basically a woman's word and concerns only being right when a white man credits them as such, there sure is a LOT of White Woman Referencing in Hazelwood's work. This main character very much gives the feel of, "Look, poc and woc! Your concerns and feelings mean something because I say they do! I'm here to defend you, you poor victims, while also hyping up my own victimhood!" No, thanks. - This book is an exact copy of TLH, which I honestly wouldn't have minded at all if just a few details were changed. Like, oh I don't know, the main characters' appearances? She's tiny, he's huge. She's fair-haired, he'd dark-haired. Levi is Adam exactly, and yeah, Bee is basically Olive. Couldn't she be tall? Couldn't he be blonde? Oh no wait, I forgot blonde guys are automatically evil in Hazelwood's world. (Seriously, we don't need our hands held. It doesn't need to be an us vs them situation, in fact PLEASE STOP MAKING IT THAT. That helps NO ONE.) Couldn't some scenes and lines NOT be an exact copy/paste from TLH? You can write stories about women in STEM without making them all the same exact story. - I found it very silly that Levi has every tiny thing in common with Bee. She loves Star Wars? So does he! She's a vegan? So is he! She's a cat person? So is he! It just gets a little ridiculous. It would've been nice if we'd seen her start to like him thinking that they were completely different, but luckily, he's an exact copy of her, so it's fine. - The Marie Curie obsession was also ridiculous, in my opinion. As a writer, I have an idol I love and know everything about, too, but I also know about other writers. Because I love what I do and I love the craft and I love studying professionals whose work I admire. To say she loves science, wants to be the best of the best, and yet only EVER quotes, mentions, and references ONE scientist the entire book just feels a little one-dimensional. I really did enjoy this book. It was nothing mind-blowing but I don't think it was supposed to be. I think it was always supposed to be like fast food; something you have when you don't want to think too hard and which is passable enough for a decent time. I just think too much. If nothing else, I'm glad I got to it to officially help me step off the Ali Hazelwood train.

leave a light on (Cordelia Carstairs and Matthew Fairchild)
Cordelia Carstairs, Matthew Fairchild (Matthew/Cordelia if you lean that way, ie. as much Fairstairs content as we currently get in canon but this can also definitely just be read as friendship fic)
Wordcount: 1,380 words
Set immediately post-Chain of Iron, Matthew and Cordelia have to stop for the night before they get to Paris. Some classic comfort fic, where I decided Cordelia needs to be the one taken care of, for once.
Ahh, I am not sure I am fully ready to be back on tumblr [things are still tough irl] - but I saw the gorgeous Chain of Thorns cover release and it suddenly released some keen that I hadn't had for month for TLH and this is the result. Hope you enjoy!
---
Cordelia watched as the gas-lit lights reflected in the window, obscuring the rainy weather outside. She could feel beads of water drip from the edges of her hair onto her forehead. The borrowed wool coat felt heavy on her shoulders. Behind her, she could hear Matthew conversing in soft French syllables with the hotelier, asking for rooms and for some food to be brought to them, despite the late hour.
The clock had chimed a few minutes ago; only an hour until midnight. This day had felt intolerably long, Cordelia thought suddenly. The morning felt a hundred years ago and she herself felt aged to the same degree, no longer the naive girl who had thought she might finally have found reciprocal love with James.
They had disembarked from the ferry into the dark streets of Calais. Matthew had initially thought to press on and find a carriage to take them straight on to Paris. “Only imagine what it would be like to wake with the dawn light streaming along the banks of the Seine and the streets of Paris shining before us,” he said, his tone equally light and airy. It was a lovely picture to imagine (if perhaps a trifle optimistic, given her recollection of the city’s streets) and so Cordelia had quickly nodded agreement.
He had offered her his arm, and they started through the foggy quarters of the town, but less than a hundred yards in, Matthew had stopped short. “You’re trembling,” he noted, frowning. “And you haven’t eaten much today, have you?”
Before she could think to object or even reply, he had whisked them into the nearest reputable-looking hotel, deposited her into a large mauve armchair and had begun charming the dour-looking woman behind the desk.
“Daisy?” Cordelia started and for the briefest of moments, she thought it was James, having come to his senses. Like she had hoped against hope at the train station, that he would appear out of a plume of smoke and soot, begging her to come home.
But even as the sting of disappointment hit her, it disappeared as Matthew’s figure came into view, his blond hair curling damply around his face, the beautiful angles of his cheekbones highlighted in the dim light, his smile gentle as he held out a hand to her.
She accepted it.
--
The room was small but perfectly adequate to Cordelia’s eyes and initially, she didn’t know why Matthew was hovering anxiously beside her.
“Oh,” she said, realising, as the hotelier left them without bothering to direct Matthew to his room.
“I apologise profusely,” Matthew said, and Cordelia could see a heat rising in his cheeks as he looked at the bed in question and then away at the floor. “There was only one room still available, and given the iciness of your hands, I did not want to drag you out again into the night. As I mentioned before we left London, I will be the consummate gentleman and sleep on the floor- or if that does not suffice- I will go out and sleep in the stables and-”
Despite the late hour, Cordelia could not help but smile. “I believe you and no, you will not be sleeping in the stables,” she said.
He was still watching her worriedly. “But I will, if you ask. And as a precaution, I also registered us under different names. This is a mundane place but I thought it best to avoid it coming to light with the Clave later on…”
A consideration that she had missed but at this stage, she was past caring about her reputation. For what good it had done her? And would do her, past this trip?
She patted his shoulder, grateful for its solidity and warmth. “Matthew - we are both tired and famished,” she said simply. She nodded at the simple meal that had been set out for them. “Shall we?”
His eyes were dark, as she looked up at him but he swept an arm open and beckoned her forward. “As you wish,” he said.
--
As a small child, Cordelia had been frightened of the dark. Not wanting to trouble her parents, she had always had Alastair check the corners of whatever new lodgings they had. Her brother had often grumbled, particularly as they grew older. But he still did it automatically - even for their house in Kensington, although Cordelia had long since considered herself capable of handling her fears. Particularly as the wielder of Cortana.
Perhaps it was being parted from Cortana.
Perhaps it was because she had rarely slept away from her family.
Perhaps- it was the grief for her father that she had previously suppressed in order to deal with more pressing matters.
Perhaps- it was for James and how she had let herself be fooled for so long. Or for the deal she unwittingly had made with Lilith (how could she have been so stupid?)
But it all crashed over her, overwhelming and insurmountable. She felt ice-cold with despair, her teeth beginning to chatter. And she was scared, as she hadn’t been for years and the tears were soaking her pillow and she tried to stifle the sobs that were emerging-
“Cordelia,” Matthew’s deep, musical voice was soft. She could hear scuffing as he moved from his nest of blankets and for the second time in as many hours, she could feel him kneeling beside her, blindly seeking her out in the moon-lit room.
She grabbed his hand, as if one might while drowning.
“I’ve- it’s all ruined,” she said. “Oh Matthew, I’ve ruined everything. And I- I don’t know what to do.”
He held her hand, stroked her forehead, smoothed away the tears on her cheeks. “My darling, my darling,” he crooned. “Believe me, you have not.”
She shook her head, the tears falling faster. She couldn’t believe him.
Moving carefully, as if not to spook her, Matthew sat her up, and positioned them in the bed so that she was cradled against him. As the warmth of his chest spilled through against her thin dress, and he held his arms tightly around her, slowly her shivers ceased and the tears began to slow.
She shook her head again slowly, and she knew that he could feel her do so.
“It’s okay if you don’t believe me right now. I’ll believe enough for the both of us,” he whispered. “Because you are Cordelia Carstairs and you are the most amazing, caring, fearless woman I know- and you will get through this and find your path again. And I will help you, however I can.”
He held her, asking nothing else - as her ragged sobs slowed, and tears stopped and as her breathing started to slow, sleep starting to claim her.
She felt him lay her back down onto the bed, a whisper-fine touch of his hands smoothing strands of hair behind her ear. He moved to stand up. To return to his separate bed.
But it was still dark. And she still felt the loneliness and fear and grief.
“Matthew,” she said. “Please-” Cordelia paused.
Matthew hesitated.
She knew it was inappropriate. Selfish, even. She knew that perhaps their previous interaction could be explained- however intimate- as comforting in grief, much as she had done when he had confessed his long-held secret to her. But what she was asking now could cross an unspoken line.
“You only have to ask and I will do it,” he said hoarsely.
“Stay,” she said.
He did.
Holding her against him, Matthew’s breath was at first careful and deliberate as if waiting for her to object. But gradually it evened, becoming peaceful and steady as he fell asleep. Cordelia’s eyes also became heavy, and even though the darkness still pressed in on her, she felt safe enough to allow herself to drift.
In the morning, as the dawn light spilled across Matthew, haloing a face relaxed and vulnerable in a way it never was while awake, Cordelia thought, while it wasn’t Paris yet as he had promised, it was still a wondrous sight. A boy who cared and who was there for her when she needed it. Perhaps, despite all this mess there was still hope.
And they would find it together in the city of light.

On Rickyboi’s Cancellation
Important bits bolded.
tl;dr - Rick’s trying his best, and his best has been getting better for years. I won’t dumpster someone who’s obviously making an effort to improve.
I’ve always felt like an anomaly in the Riordanverse fandom. Moreso because I’m cismale than anything else, but also because I’m black (being LGBT is the least anomalous part of my identity in this particular sphere). Male, black, LGBT - also probably years older than most of you since The Last Olympian released when I was in High School. Anyway.
Rick’s in hot water, now moreso than usual prolly owing to the big PJO Disney+ series announcement. A deluge of grievance-airing on Twitter and a defensive post on his site later, the fandom is at war. I’m firmly on Rick’s side, because unlike a LOT of the media I see praised on tumblr, he’s very obviously been trying. For years. FOR YEARS.
Rick is not JK. From PJO to Heroes of Olympus to Trials of Apollo, his books have gone from straight & lily-white to hands-down the most diverse massively-successful YA franchise. You don’t do that without caring. You don’t get from where he was to where he is by being JK Rowling. It was never going to be perfect, and I think when you have so many people dogpiling you for putting your best foot a little more forward each time, defensiveness is very human.
Native people explained why the feathers in her hair were racist, and their issues with the kaleidoscope eyes (a detail I rolled my eyes at upon learning in TLH). I’ve read a couple differing takes on what was racist about Samirah, from the arrange marriage happening very young and to Floor 19 ever being considered family enough to take her hijab off in front of. I’ve seen more varied opinions on her.
But you know what I remember? In the Burning Maze, when Piper is helping out Apollo and crew and, in the middle of sleuthing out a maze entrance, Piper takes the time to explain how what she’s doing is not Tracking, how Tracking is something people in her culture are trained to do and how what she’s doing is separate. I remember Rick having the enemies aboard the Ship of the Dead be genuinely impressed with Samirah for managing to hold her own while fasting for Ramadan.
I don’t think there’s any earthly way to expect Rick to get it all absolutely right the first time. Because make no mistake, for a lot of consumers of YA media, and for a lot of media in general, he IS the first. I think that to read through his books and come away with anything other than the impression that’s actively intending to use his platform to do good is disingenuous.
Rick’s got the one of the ONLY massively successful YA media franchise that includes so many of these kinds of characters. From PJO to Heroes of Olympus to Trials of Apollo it’s been a constant upward tick of representation, and he’s doing his best off of zero lived experience. I know I was ecstatic over Beckendorf and Hazel being included as major characters, and I was so salty Beckendorf died at the beginning of TLO because of how cavalier a use of the Black Dude Dies First trope it was.
But then we got Carter. And Walt. And Austin. And Blitz. And TJ. And those were just the explicitly AA males, no doubt Brooklyn House and Camps Jupiter and Half-Blood have far more! I know - I’ve seen - that the fandom doesn’t give three craps put together about these characters, but I absolutely love them. And I never would’ve gotten the chance to know them had I kicked Riccordion to the curb after Charlie died.
He’s shown us his good intentions. They’re right there, on the page. It baffles me why people are taking his worst mistakes and assuming the worst of him for it.

TLH Will/Jem Moments That Break My Heart (part 1/?)
Part 1: Chain of Gold
#1
James’s father, Will, had often told him about the patrols he used to do with his parabatai, Jem Carstairs—now James’s uncle Jem—back when they had battled demons nearly every night.
》 i dunno why but for some reason this brings me to tears
#2
I think this next one is the part everyone cried at. But I gotta say i literally had to close the book when i read it and then i wept for literally 10 minutes:
The night after they learned of Linette’s and Edmund’s deaths, Will had been sitting on the floor in the drawing room, Tessa in the overstuffed armchair behind him, and Lucie and James had been stretched upon the fireplace rug. Will’s back had been against Tessa’s legs as he stared unseeing into the fire. They had all heard the front doors open; Will had looked up when Jem came in, and Jem, in his Silent Brother robes, went over to Will and sat down beside him. He drew Will’s head against his shoulder, and Will held the front of Jem’s robes in his fists and he cried. Tessa bowed her head over both of them, and the three were united in adult grief, a sphere James could not yet touch.
#3
this one is just purely hilarious, but also imagine Will teasing Jem about 'how proud he is that his parabatai has finally found a sense of humour':
On one memorable occasion, Jem borrowed Matthew’s dog, Oscar Wilde, riled him up, and released him on an unsuspecting James during breakfast.
James thought some of Jem’s training ideas were deliberate pranks—Silent Brothers had the best poker faces he could imagine, after all. His father assured him that it wasn’t in Jem’s nature, and that however odd the training, he was sure it was intended sincerely.
#4
i love crying about both Jem/Will and James/Matthew after reading a single paragraph
Jem’s violin had pride of place—a Stradivarius carved of mellow wood, it rested in an open case atop a high table. James had seen his father come into this room just to touch the violin sometimes, a faraway look in his eyes. He wondered if he would do the same with Matthew’s belongings if one day, he lost his parabatai.
#5
laughing through the tears
The door opened, and Will stuck his head into the music room. He looked weary, his shirtsleeves rolled to the elbow, his shirt stained with tinctures and salve. Still, he smiled when he saw James and Jem. “Is everything all right?”
“Uncle Jem was worried about me,” said James. “But I am quite well.”
Will came up to his son and pulled him into a quick, rough hug. He said, “I am glad to hear it, Jamie bach. Gideon and Sophie have arrived, and to see them with Barbara—” He kissed the top of James’s head. “It does not bear thinking of.”
I should return to the infirmary, said Jem. There is much still for me to do.
Will nodded, releasing James. “I know Gideon and Sophie would feel better if you were the one tending Barbara. Not to insult Brother Shadrach, who I’m sure is an excellent and well-respected member of the Brotherhood.”
Jem shook his head, which was as close as he got to smiling, and the three of them left the music room.
#6
“The only equivalent in real life is memory,” Tessa said, looking up as Will Herondale came into the room, followed by Cousin Jem. “But memories can be bitter as well as sweet.”
#7
“Is it selfishly awful to worry that all this business will delay our becoming parabatai? I feel I will be a better Shadowhunter when it is done. Were you not one, after you became parabatai with Uncle Jem?”
“A better Shadowhunter and a better man,” said Will. “All the best of me, I learned from Jem and your mother. All I want for you and Cordelia is to have what I had, a friendship that shall shape all your days. And never to be parted.”
#8 Will being Will AKA Will seeking solace in Jem
Will had been angry at the world, and then gone to see Jem.
#9
Will wanting to immediately share the exciting news with Jem is something that can be so personal
A broad smile spread across Will’s face.
“Then we have no choice but to give our blessing too. Cordelia Carstairs,” he said, “the Carstairs and the Herondales will be bonded even more closely now. If James could have chosen his wife from all the women in all the worlds that are or ever were, I would wish for no other.”
Tessa laughed. “Will! You cannot compliment our new daughter only on the chance of her last name!”
Will was grinning like a boy. “Wait until I tell Jem—”
#10
Was it strange for Will, she wondered, to be aging and have Jem remain in appearance still a boy? Or when you loved someone, did you not notice these things, just as her parents saw no difference between themselves?
#11
any reminder that Jem and Will were parabatai brings me to tears
“But I did it for Cordelia!” she exclaimed, as her parents drew back, her mother seating herself on the bed beside Lucie, where she could hold her hand. “You would have done it for Jem, Papa, when you were parabatai.”
Will leaned back against a post of the bed. “You aren’t parabatai with Cordelia yet.”
#12
It was his father, but Will was not alone: Uncle Jem was with him, a noiseless presence in his drifting parchment robes. His hood was down, as it often was when he was inside the Institute. Will had told James many years ago that when Jem had first become a Silent Brother, he had not liked people to see his scars. It was strange to think of Uncle Jem having such feelings.
“Someone’s here to see you,” Will said, moving aside to let Jem pass into the room. He glanced from his son to his old parabatai.
#13
If you saw humanity as I can see it, Uncle Jem said. There is very little brightness and warmth in the world for me. There are only four flames, in the whole world, that burn fiercely enough for me to feel something like the person I was. Your mother, your father, Lucie, and you.
#14
“Will.” Tessa sank down beside him on the bed. “There is no war.”
She knew why he worried. For them, there had been war, and loss. Tessa’s brother, Nate. Thomas Tanner. Agatha Grant. Jessamine Lovelace, their friend, who now guarded the London Institute in ghostly form. And Jem, who they had both lost and kept.
(stay tuned for part 2 with Chain of Iron snippets and snippets from the Tessa/Will wedding short story)

Blackthorn Siblings Supremacy
‘He was seven years her elder, and pleased to have a sister. He was quiet, and kind, and he read to her and helped her make flower crowns in the garden.’ (i’m not an artist but we need art of jesse and grace in flower crowns asap)
‘“Will you train me, too?” Grace said, in a rush, and her brother broke into a smile that made her burst into tears, overwhelmed by the sudden feeling of being cared for.’ (this is too soft, my heart!!)
‘After a few weeks, Jesse gave her a hunting bow and quiver of beautiful red cured leather - he apologised that they were not new, but she knew he had scrounged them from the attic and spent weeks cleaning and repairing them for her, and that meant more than would have any expensive gift.’ (a SWEETHEART)
‘Jesse was a patient teacher, gentle and encouraging. She had never thought of having a brother, but now she was grateful every day to have one - and not only grateful in the dutiful way she was grateful to her mother.’ (i’m sobbing at this point)
‘Jesse, who taught her to climb trees, to speak and read French, who finished every evening by her bedside, reading to her from works as diverse as the Aeneid of Virgil and Treasure Island.’ (tlh really does deliver the best big bro content am i riight??)
‘Grace never knew just why Jesse was so kind to her. She thought perhaps that he understood from the start that he and Grace were each other’s only true allies, and that their survival depended on one another. Apart they might fall into the same pit that had claimed her mother; together they might even thrive.’ (awh and this...)
‘But she summoned her courage and was with Jesse when a Silent Brother inscribed the Voyance rune on the back of Jesse’s right hand. She was there to see him hold up his hand, to regard it in wonder, to thank the Brothers profusely. And she was there that night to see him die.’ (okay stop reminding us that he’s dead, that’s just mean)

tlh/son content i didn’t ask for :)
(tw!! mentions of not eating and depression)
**********************************
It had been four months, five days, and twelve hours since Percy Jackson disappeared. Four months, five days, and twelve hours since he kissed her goodnight and went off to his cabin. She was supposed to see him the next day. They had planned to eat breakfast together and then go to the stables to hang out with Blackjack. It was meant to be normal day, and yet, it ended up being the beginning of Annabeth’s worst nightmare. She thought he’d be back by now. She thought she would have been able to find him at this point.
One week, she would catch herself thinking, He was able to find me in barely one week after Atlas captured me. Why can’t I find him?
The last four months have been hard, but Annabeth had recently fallen into a new kind of despair. Something more than an ache, more than a sinking feeling in her chest. The feeling made her physically ill. Over half of the time, she wanted to scream, and her siblings encouraged it. They tried to convince her that it could help, but she was too numb to ever put in the effort.
The past week had been her worst one yet. Annabeth barely left bed, let alone the Athena cabin. She spent every day staring at Daedalus’ computer looking through missing people’s reports, searching for strange happenings around the world, and trying to come up with new search plans. She hadn't eaten in days and it was beginning to be noticeable.
Her brothers and sisters tried to reason with her, but she wouldn't budge. Piper tried to comfort her, but Annabeth didn't want pity. The Stoll’s stopped by and tried to make her laugh, but she barely breathed out a chuckle. Even Will Solace made an appearance and tried to convince her that she needed to be taking better care of herself.
“Percy wouldn't want to see you like this,” he’d said.
But how would he know what Percy would want? She was his girlfriend. She was his best friend. She was the one who felt like she was dying every morning when she woke up and realized that this wasn’t all a big nightmare. Annabeth was the one who’d lost someone she loved, again, and couldn't do anything about it, again.
She didn't even have Grover to lean on. If she were to let anyone in right now, it would be either him or Thalia, but they were both off leading the satyrs and hunters in a search party. At least they were doing something. Chiron hadn't let her leave the camp in who knows how long. Apparently, she was too big of a risk in her present state. Annabeth thought that was bullshit.
Somehow, the girl had managed to feel more weak, useless, and alone then she ever had before, and yet, at the same time, she felt nothing.
A knock on her cabin door pulled Annabeth from her computer screen. She assumed it would be one of her siblings trying to coax her into coming to dinner again, but she was surprised to see none other than Clarisse la Rue leaning against the door of her cabin, hands behind her back.
“What are you doing here?” Annabeth’s voice came out croaky. She hadn't spoken all day.
“Could ask you the same thing,” Clarisse replied as she walked further into the room towards where Annabeth sat on her bunk, “It’s dinner time, princess.”
Annabeth rolled her eyes at the big girl looking down at her, “I’m not hungry. And I’m busy.”
Clarisse scoffed, “Yeah, and I don't buy it. You missed breakfast and lunch today, and dinner last night. And the night before, and the night before that.”
“Like I said, I’ve been busy.”
“Annabeth,” The end of the bed dipped as Clarisse took a seat. The blonde didn’t want to look up from the laptop, but there was something strange in Clarisse’s voice. She still sounded annoyed, but it was almost comforting, gentle even.
When she looked at Clarisse, she was met with an expression she’d never really seen on the girl’s face before. It could almost be described as a mix between an aggressive don't bullshit me and a gentle I know. Annabeth hated it.
I know.
I know this is hard for you. I know this hurts. I know things will turn out okay.
For some reason, everyone assumed that they knew what Annabeth was going through. That they knew what she was feeling. But how could they possible understand what she was feeling when she couldn't put it into words herself? Annabeth was no stranger to loss, but this? This was different. She’d always been a tough girl. She’s always been the one who was able to hold herself together and put on a brave face for the sake of doing what’s important. But this? Loosing Percy? Her Seaweed Brain?
They had been through so much together and so far they’d survived. Together. And now she's facing all of this alone. Annabeth isn't some damsel in distress. She survived without Percy before, so she wasn't sure why she suddenly feels like she can't breathe without him.
She didn't want to be reminded of those stupid words ever again, “Don't.”
Annabeth was surprised that Clarisse even heard her. The word came out in a harsh whisper and the waver in her voice didn't help.
Rather than give her the typical pity look, Clarisse just sighed and brought her hands out from behind her back. In her right hand, she was holding a water bottle, in the left, a piece of pizza wrapped in a napkin, extra olives. Annabeth just stared at it.
“Who sent you?”
“Believe it or not, I come by my own free will,” Clarisse placed the food and drink down in front of Daedalus’s computer, “You’ve been ignoring everyone. I think Malcolm was about to send out an Iris Mesage to Thalia and have her bring the hunters back so she could try her hand at talking to you. Figured I’d give it a go before we resort to that.”
“Why do you care if the hunters come here?”
Clarisse got quiet and looked down at the food she’d brought in. There was a look on her face, it almost as if she was contemplating what to say. It took a moment before she finally let out a sigh and spoke up, “Those hunters jump back really quickly. They were back to the hunt in no time after the Titan War. And it’s tradition to have a game of Capture the Flag every time they visit. We haven’t played since before, well, everything-“
“And you don’t want to loose to them again,” Annabeth scoffed. Of course Clarisse would have her own agenda in mind right now. The blonde had half a mind to throw the pizza into her face and-
“No,” Despite Annabeth’s rude tone, Clarisse remained calm, “I just don’t want to fight. Not for a little while longer at least.”
Annabeth wasn’t sure how to react to the confession. She’d never heard an Ares kid say they didn't want to fight. Especially Clarisse.  The other girl must have sensed Annabeth’s confusion, or read it right off of her face, because she explained further, “The um... the last time I was in an actual fight was right after Silena... you know.”
This time it was Clarisse who was avoiding eye contact. Of course Annabeth knew, she was right there when it happened. She witnessed first hand as Clarisse’s tough walls crumbled at the sight of Silena’s death. No camper was excited about training after the war was over. A majority of the summer had been spent as if they were kids at a normal summer camp and not a bunch of demigods who had just fought in a giant war where half of their friends had died. For a moment, just moment, they were normal.
But training would have to start again eventually. Wars come and go, but monsters will always return. However, no one was eager to jump back into making a game out of war when they had just barley survived a real one.
“Yeah...” I know.
Annabeth stopped before those cursed words could slipped through her lips. She and Silena were very close friends. She missed her all the time. She would be reminded of her when she walked past the Aphrodite cabin, or when she went to see Backjack, or, even worse, when she hung out with Piper. Annabeth loved and missed Silena so much, but she didn't know what Clarisse was going through.
When Chris came back to camp, Clarisse and Silena became closer than ever. The daughter of Ares found someone she could confide in and trust. A person who she could let her walls down with, but it was more than that. At least, that’s what Annabeth was starting to believe.
Looking back at the days after the war, Annabeth now realized how familiar this all must be for Clarisse, because she was the exact same way. Well, maybe not the exact same. The daughter of Ares didn't spend her time searching news reports or making up search plans, but she retreated in her own way. It wasn't until Chris intervened that she started to get back to her old self.
“Clarisse,” Annabeth asked, gently, “How did- I mean, with Silena- you-”
Clarisse snickered, but it wasn't harsh in any way, “I think this is the first time I’ve heard an Athena kid sound so unsure. Just ask.”
“How did it feel?” the blonde was straining not to let tears fall from her eyes, “When she- when you lost her?”
“It felt like...” Clarisse bit her tongue and leaned her head back, as if she were trying to hold something back too, “It felt like I’d just lost what made me whole.”
“Why?” the question came out softer than she’d intended.
Then, for maybe the first time in her life, Annabeth saw a soft smile appear on Clarisse’s face, “Because I loved her. Just like you love Percy, just like he loves you.”
Love.
Annabeth didn’t know when she stopped trying to hold back her tears, but by the time she realized her cheeks were wet, it was too late to do anything about it.
“I don’t know how you feel, but I know what you’re going through. Though, hopefully, not completely. Jackson is still out there, I know because that headache he always causes me to have is still here,” Annabeth laughed for the first time in months, “Look, I do intend to help you find him, and I will hit him over the head for leaving, whatever the reason, I don't really care. But you have to start taking care of yourself again, Annabeth. What you're doing, it’s dangerous and stupid. Believe me, I know. And we don’t call you Wise Girl because you’re stupid.”
Then, Annabeth did something she never thought she’d ever do. She shut her computer then reached out and gave Clarisse la Rue a hug. Just as Annabeth was sure she was about to get body slammed, the other girl hugged her back.
“No offense or anything,” Annabeth said, pulling away from the girl and wiping tears off of her face, “but this all seems very un-Clarisse of you.”
The girl chuckled at that, “Silena taught me to open up about my feelings. I’m beginning to realize that I wouldn't be honoring her if I decided to backtrack into my old secluded ways just because she’s gone. However, that being said, if anyone asks, I came in here, yelled some sense into you, and you don't know about my mushy side.”
A small smile appeared on Annabeth’s face, “Deal.”
“Good,” Clarisse said, leaning back onto the bed post, “Now, I'm not leaving until you drink your water and eat your pizza. After this, you're going to the bonfire and having one night off, and if you argue I will go all Ares on you. We have every resource available out there looking for Percy. I know it’s your specialty and all, but you shouldn't be stressing yourself over things you can't control. He’ll come back to you, he loves you too much to stay away much longer.”
After that, there wasn't much more convincing to be done. Annabeth ate her food and drank her drink while having a civil conversation with Clarisse. She’d gone back to talking and teasing like the Clarisse Annabeth knew, but now she was someone else. The last thing the blonde girl ever imagined was to have Clarisse la Rue, daughter of Ares, help her sort out her feelings, but now she knew.
Annabeth knew why it hurt so much that Percy was gone. She knew why no one was able to comfort her, not in the way that he did, and she knew why losing him hurt so much more than anyone else. She knew why she had this dark feeling surrounding her, even still now, because one heart-to-heart over a piece of pizza won’t just take that away. But she knew it was possible. Clarisse was proof. Annabeth can come back from this and find Percy. She knew she could. She knows she can.
Because now she's knows why it’s so important.
It’s because it’s Percy.
And it’s because she loves him.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market Review!
My first book of the Read to Roll challenge is Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, and Robin Wasserman.
Tumblr media
Look at Jem! I love my son!
Tumblr media
Here we are at the pond! Fun fact: Cassandra Clare allegedly lives in the town next to mine. I kinda really hate it.
I actually finished reading this a while ago, but I got caught up with school and the library book is due tomorrow, so I guess we’re doing this review tonight, bitches!
First: I LOVED this book!! I have my issues with CC and it took me literally took me like 9 months to finish reading QOAAD (which I also enjoyed, I just couldn’t get through) but I FLEW through this book! I think maybe the short story format just fits my brain a bit better. I’m gonna break this down by story:
Cast Long Shadows
Matthew!! My child!! I want to hug you so much!!
This story stood out to me as particularly hopeless, especially compared to the rest of the stories. It ended in total despair, and I understand Matthew did something VERY VERY BAD but he is a dumb child and dumb 15 year olds do a lot of dumb things so
I really hope he gets some sort of resolution in TLH
This bitch deserves happiness
Also he’s defo not straight?? like no straight boi is THAT into oscar wilde
i kinda ship him with thomas
Every Exquisite Thing
SOOO PURE!!!!!
WE STAN SUPPORTIVE PARENTS!!!!!!!!!
This story was like a breath of fresh air compared to the last
It doesn’t really connect to the overarching plot at ALL (every other story does, correct me if I’m wrong) but i’m okay with it because anna lightwood is incredible and deserves all of the respect
the only bit that kinda not really relates is the talk about tessa’s demon parent? which is lowkey implied to be like... actually satan?? ahhhh????
That last bit with Cecily was just so beautiful. again.
I TOLD YOU THE BLUE WAISTCOAT WAS THE ONE
I’m just imagining them just in bed one night and one of them was like ‘our daughter hecka gay’ ‘what should we do’ ‘well we gotta buy her a suit that actually fits her obv. she can’t keep walking around in clothes that don’t fit, also they’re gross’ ‘i actually already went to the tailor down the block and made a list of the ones i think she would look best in’
I know ariadne broke annas heart but also i feel really bad for her. being a brown lesbian in 2019 is hard enough. she lost her parents and she doesn’t want to lose what she has left. i hope she also gets some sort of closure in TLH. i would be content with her and charlie having a charlotte and henry thing going minus the pining and falling in love. they’re married but it’s just business and they can pursue whomever on the side
also isabelle do you realize that necklace you’re wearing was once owned by queer QUEEN anna lightwood?????
Learn About Loss
this story was a little slow, but very necessary for introducing the lost herondale plot
emilia is so fucking badass
the last scene with will and jem was so pure and wholesome. i’m so mad that they were robbed of so much time together.
A Deeper Love
this story was just anxiety
like obv i knew jem wasn’t going to die but the CLIMAX
can kit pls have some heart to heart with catarina in twp! like she deserves some closure! like she can just tell him some stories and he can understand a bit more of where he comes from
jem deserves all of the hugs
i just want to scream YOU GET MARRIED! YOU HAVE A CHILD! IT WILL HAPPEN!
The Wicked Ones
this story was,, uh,, something
i’d say it ties with cast long shadows as the most depressing
so basically, celine was horribly abused her entire life by the people who should have taken care of her, her trauma was exploited by another abuser so that she too became incredibly manipulative and potentially abusive, and then she killed herself (was murdered?) and her child was ripped from her corpse to be abused throughout his entire childhood as well
it was cute seeing kit’s parents! they were so cute! what happened.
Son of the Dawn
baby alec! baby izzy! baby jace! baby baby max!
i’m not a big jace fan, but ugh i just wanted him to get the love that every child deserves!
i can’t believe raphael santiago was alec lightwood’s sexual awakening
“brother let him see my rack-ariah”
lily chen deserves the whole goddamn world
jem CARVED WILL’S INITIALS INTO HIS STAFF
FULL HOMO
The Land I Lost
gotta admit that i wasn’t too hype about this one bc i’m kinda tired of all of the malec narratives, but it was cute
“JEM I’D-LOVE-TO-CLIMB-’EM-CARSTAIRS” (this has to be my favorite)
once again i love lily chen with all my heart and she deserves all of the happiness and none of the shit that the world has given her
also??? lily breathed, “cortana.” this girl was GAY for CORDELIA CARSTAIRS
BLESS THE COME AND STARE FAMILY
i love how this small child who hates everyone just physically attached himself to alec and would not let go
cordelia carstairs was lily’s sexual awakening and you can’t change my mind
SLEEP LILY I’LL WATCH THE DOORS alec lightwood being the PAL lily deserves
THAT BITCH! poor matthew. he was still dumb but he was played by some bitch who couldn’t separate her person grudges and an entire race of people
i love how magnus saw this child run into his home with alec nowhere in sight and was like “guess he’s my son now”
Through Blood, Through Fire
rosemary ;_;
that’s so fucking depressing like you abandoned your family and it bought them like 3 days max
i think it’s a little weird that tessa now has some of kit’s mother’s memories and is adopting him but also i guess it’s kinda nice?
both jem and tessa have actually almost died searching for you, kit, and i don’t think either regret a single thing they did to lead themselves to you
jem and tessa are in LOVE and they’re having a BABY
The Lost World
JEM AND TESSA ARE IN LOVE AND THEY’RE HAVING A BABY
ty u really did fuck up didn’t u
but he’s got a pet now so that’s nice
livvy ;_;
i really hope they find a way to release her in twp
i don’t think ty wants it, but things will come to a head. she’s not happy as a ghost.
kit and ty are so fucking dumb just talk to each other!!
it’s so fitting that kit gave them the heron pendant
both in a sense of continuity and in the complexities of his feelings - on one hand it belonged to his mother, someone cared very much about him but on the other, it failed to save her
Forever Fallen
i ship kit with a family that loves him
jem just talks to him and is just internally like ‘wtf has everyone in your life done wrong’
jem and tessa: you are WORTHY and DESERVING of LOVE, BITCH!
i want all of the domestic herondale-carstairs family
i think i read the scene where jem and tessa put all of their stuff in kit’s room like 10 times it had me so shook
“WE WANT YOU TO KNOW THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS HOUSE MORE PRECIOUS TO US THAN YOU”
WE STAN SUPPORTIVE PARENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Janus is as annoying as real jace
lily be safe bby ily this is gonna end baaaaad
the scene at the end where jem tells kit that where there is love there is no need for gratitude also has me shook bc we’ve been talking about this a lot in my spanish class, about how so many of us are trained to be complacent and to show gratitude for things that should be a given
Overall, I really enjoyed the book even though some parts bored me and I kinda skimmed through. I’m reading Girls of Paper and Fire now, so we’ll see when I finish that!
