Tumblr media
For the past six years or so, this graph has been making its rounds on social media, always reappearing at conveniently timed moments

The insinuation is loud and clear: parallels abound between 18th-century France and 21st-century USA. Cue the alarm bells—revolution is imminent! The 10% should panic, and ordinary folk should stock up on non-perishables and, of course, toilet paper, because it wouldn’t be a proper crisis without that particular frenzy. You know the drill.
Tumblr media
Well, unfortunately, I have zero interest in commenting on the political implications or the parallels this graph is trying to make with today’s world. I have precisely zero interest in discussing modern-day politics here. And I also have zero interest in addressing the bottom graph.
This is not going to be one of those "the [insert random group of people] à la lanterne” (1) kind of posts.  If you’re here for that, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.
What I am interested in is something much less click-worthy but far more useful: how historical data gets used and abused and why the illusion of historical parallels can be so seductive—and so misleading. It’s not glamorous, I’ll admit, but digging into this stuff teaches us a lot more than mindless rage.
So, let’s get into it. Step by step, we’ll examine the top graph, unpick its assumptions, and see whether its alarmist undertones hold any historical weight.
Step 1: Actually Look at the Picture and Use Your Brain
When I saw this graph, my first thought was, “That’s odd.” Not because it’s hard to believe the top 10% in 18th-century France controlled 60% of the wealth—that could very well be true. But because, in 15 years of studying the French Revolution, I’ve never encountered reliable data on wealth distribution from that period.
Why? Because to the best of my knowledge, no one was systematically tracking income or wealth across the population in the 18th century. There were no comprehensive records, no centralised statistics, and certainly no detailed breakdowns of who owned what across different classes. Graphs like this imply data, and data means either someone tracked it or someone made assumptions to reconstruct it. That’s not inherently bad,  but it did get my spider senses tingling.
Then there’s the timeframe: 1760–1790. Thirty years is a long time— especially when discussing a period that included wars, failed financial policies, growing debt, and shifting social dynamics. Wealth distribution wouldn’t have stayed static during that time. Nobles who were at the top in 1760 could be destitute by 1790, while merchants starting out in 1760 could be climbing into the upper tiers by the end of the period. Economic mobility wasn’t common, but over three decades, it wasn’t unheard of either.
All of this raises questions about how this graph was created. Where’s the data coming from? How was it measured? And can we really trust it to represent such a complex period?
Step 2: Check the Fine Print
Since the graph seemed questionable, the obvious next step was to ask: Where does this thing come from? Luckily, the source is clearly cited at the bottom: “The Income Inequality of France in Historical Perspective” by Christian Morrisson and Wayne Snyder, published in the European Review of Economic History, Vol. 4, No. 1 (2000).
Tumblr media
Great! A proper academic source. But, before diving into the article, there’s a crucial detail tucked into the fine print:
“Data for the bottom 40% in France is extrapolated given a single data point.”
What does that mean?
Extrapolation is a statistical method used to estimate unknown values by extending patterns or trends from a small sample of data. In this case, the graph’s creator used one single piece of data—one solitary data point—about the wealth of the bottom 40% of the French population. They then scaled or applied that one value to represent the entire group across the 30-year period (1760–1790).
Put simply, this means someone found one record—maybe a tax ledger, an income statement, or some financial data—pertaining to one specific year, region, or subset of the bottom 40%, and decided it was representative of the entire demographic for three decades.
Let’s be honest: you don’t need a degree in statistics to know that’s problematic. Using a single data point to make sweeping generalisations about a large, diverse population (let alone across an era of wars, famines, and economic shifts) is a massive leap. In fact, it’s about as reliable as guessing how the internet feels about a topic from a single tweet.
This immediately tells me that whatever numbers they claim for the bottom 40% of the population are, at best, speculative. At worst? Utterly meaningless.
Tumblr media
It also raises another question: What kind of serious journal would let something like this slide? So, time to pull up the actual article and see what’s going on.
Step 3: Check the Sources
As I mentioned earlier, the source for this graph is conveniently listed at the bottom of the image. Three clicks later, I had downloaded the actual article: “The Income Inequality of France in Historical Perspective” by Morrisson and Snyder.
The first thing I noticed while skimming through the article? The graph itself is nowhere to be found in the publication.
This is important. It means the person who created the graph didn’t just lift it straight from the article—they derived it from the data in the publication. Now, that’s not necessarily a problem; secondary analysis of published data is common. But here’s the kicker: there’s no explanation in the screenshot of the graph about which dataset or calculations were used to make it. We’re left to guess.
So, to figure this out, I guess I’ll have to dive into the article itself, trying to identify where they might have pulled the numbers from. Translation: I signed myself up to read 20+ pages of economic history. Thrilling stuff.
But hey, someone has to do it. The things I endure to fight disinformation...
Step 4: Actually Assess the Sources Critically
It doesn’t take long, once you start reading the article, to realise that regardless of what the graph is based on, it’s bound to be somewhat unreliable. Right from the first paragraph, the authors of the paper point out the core issue with calculating income for 18th-century French households: THERE IS NO DATA.
The article is refreshingly honest about this. It states multiple times that there were no reliable income distribution estimates in France before World War II. To fill this gap, Morrisson and Snyder used a variety of proxy sources like the Capitation Tax Records (2), historical socio-professional tables, and Isnard’s income distribution estimates (3).
After reading the whole paper, I can say their methodology is intriguing and very reasonable. They’ve pieced together what they could by using available evidence, and their process is quite well thought-out. I won’t rehash their entire argument here, but if you’re curious, I’d genuinely recommend giving it a read.
Most importantly, the authors are painfully aware of the limitations of their approach. They make it very clear that their estimates are a form of educated guesswork—evidence-based, yes, but still guesswork.   At no point do they overstate their findings or present their conclusions as definitive
As such,  instead of concluding with a single, definitive version of the income distribution, they offer multiple possible scenarios.
It’s not as flashy as a bold, tidy graph, is it? But it’s far more honest—and far more reflective of the complexities involved in reconstructing historical economic data.
Step 5: Run the numbers
Now that we’ve established the authors of the paper don’t actually propose a definitive income distribution, the question remains: where did the creators of the graph get their data? More specifically, which of the proposed distributions did they use?
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to locate the original article or post containing the graph. Admittedly, I haven’t tried very hard, but the first few pages of Google results just link back to Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, and Tumblr posts. In short, all I have to go on is this screenshot.
I’ll give the graph creators the benefit of the doubt and assume that, in the full article, they explain where they sourced their data. I really hope they do—because they absolutely should.
That being said, based on the information in Morrisson and Snyder’s paper, I’d make an educated guess that the data came from Table 6 or Table 10, as these are the sections where the authors attempt to provide income distribution estimates.
Tumblr media
Now, which dataset does the graph use? Spoiler: None of them.
How can we tell? Since I don’t have access to the raw data or the article where this graph might have been originally posted, I resorted to a rather unscientific method: I used a graphical design program to divide each bar of the chart into 2.5% increments and measure the approximate percentage for each income group.
Here’s what I found:
Tumblr media
Now, take a moment to spot the issue. Do you see it?
The problem is glaring: NONE of the datasets from the paper fit the graph. Granted, my measurements are just estimates, so there might be some rounding errors. But the discrepancies are impossible to ignore, particularly for the bottom 40% and the top 10%.
In Morrisson and Snyder’s paper, the lowest estimate for the bottom 40% (1st and 2nd quintiles) is 10%. Even if we use the most conservative proxy, the Capitation Tax estimate, it’s 9%. But the graph claims the bottom 40% held only 6%.
For the top 10% (10th decile), the highest estimate in the paper is 53%. Yet the graph inflates this to 60%.
Step 6: For fun, I made my own bar charts
Because I enjoy this sort of thing (yes, this is what I consider fun—I’m a very fun person), I decided to use the data from the paper to create my own bar charts. Here’s what came out:
Tumblr media
What do you notice?
While the results don’t exactly scream “healthy economy,” they look much less dramatic than the graph we started with. The creators of the graph have clearly exaggerated the disparities, making inequality seem worse.
Step 7: Understand the context before drawing conclusions
Numbers, by themselves, mean nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I could tell you right now that 47% of people admit to arguing with inanimate objects when they don’t work, with printers being the most common offender, and you’d probably believe it. Why? Because it sounds plausible—printers are frustrating, I’ve used a percentage, and I’ve phrased it in a way that sounds “academic.”
You likely wouldn’t even pause to consider that I’m claiming 3.8 billion people argue with inanimate objects. And let’s be real: 3.8 billion is such an incomprehensibly large number that our brains tend to gloss over it.
If, instead, I said, “Half of your friends probably argue with their printers,” you might stop and think, “Wait, that seems a bit unlikely.” (For the record, I completely made that up—I have no clue how many people yell at their stoves or complain to their toasters.)
The point? Numbers mean nothing unless we put them into context.
The original paper does this well by contextualising its estimates, primarily through the calculation of the Gini coefficient (4).
The authors estimate France’s Gini coefficient in the late 18th century to be 0.59, indicating significant income inequality. However, they compare this figure to other regions and periods to provide a clearer picture:
Amsterdam (1742): Much higher inequality, with a Gini of 0.69.
Britain (1759): Lower inequality, with a Gini of 0.52, which rose to 0.59 by 1801.
Prussia (mid-19th century): Far less inequality, with a Gini of 0.34–0.36.
This comparison shows that income inequality wasn’t unique to France. Other regions experienced similar or even higher levels of inequality without spontaneously erupting into revolution.
Accounting for Variations
The authors also recalculated the Gini coefficient to account for potential variations. They assumed that the income of the top quintile (the wealthiest 20%) could vary by ±10%. Here’s what they found:
If the top quintile earned 10% more, the Gini coefficient rose to 0.66, placing France significantly above other European countries of the time.
If the top quintile earned 10% less, the Gini dropped to 0.55, bringing France closer to Britain’s level.
Ultimately, the authors admit there’s uncertainty about the exact level of inequality in France. Their best guess is that it was comparable to other countries or somewhat worse.
Step 8: Drawing Some Conclusions
Saying that most people in the 18th century were poor and miserable—perhaps the French more so than others—isn’t exactly a compelling statement if your goal is to gather clicks or make a dramatic political point.
It’s incredibly tempting to look at the past and find exactly what we want to see in it. History often acts as a mirror, reflecting our own expectations unless we challenge ourselves to think critically. Whether you call it wishful thinking or confirmation bias, it’s easy to project the future onto the past.
Looking at the initial graph, I understand why someone might fall into this trap. Simple, tidy narratives are appealing to everyone. But if you’ve studied history, you’ll know that such narratives are a myth. Human nature may not have changed in thousands of years, but the contexts we inhabit are so vastly different that direct parallels are meaningless.
So, is revolution imminent? Well, that’s up to you—not some random graph on the internet.
Notes
(1) A la lanterne was a  revolutionary cry during the French Revolution, symbolising mob justice where individuals were sometimes hanged from lampposts as a form of public execution
(2) The capitation tax was a fixed head tax implemented in France during the Ancien Régime. It was levied on individuals, with the amount owed determined by their social and professional status. Unlike a proportional income tax, it was based on pre-assigned categories rather than actual earnings, meaning nobles, clergy, and commoners paid different rates regardless of their actual wealth or income.
(3) Jean-Baptiste Isnard was an 18th-century economist. These estimates attempted to describe the theoretical distribution of income among different social classes in pre-revolutionary France. Isnard’s work aimed to categorise income across groups like nobles, clergy, and commoners, providing a broad picture of economic disparity during the period.
(4) The Gini coefficient (or Gini index) is a widely used statistical measure of inequality within a population, specifically in terms of income or wealth distribution. It ranges from 0 to 1, where 0 indicates perfect equality (everyone has the same income or wealth), and 1 represents maximum inequality (one person or household holds all the wealth).

A Low-Stress Work Social
"Chapter" Name: A Low-Stress Work Social — Sector Zero, Midgar 199X
Summary: Angeal and Genesis, newly promoted to the FIRST CLASS within SOLDIER, attend a company social event alongside Sephiroth.
Tags: Slice of Life, Emotional Hurt/Comfort
Potential TWs: homophobia
WC: ~3000 (6-10 minute read)
Sample below the cut!
“He said you could have two.”
“Come on, Angeal—who is going to notice? Who will notice if we have another?”
“We all agreed with him that we could have two. We are technically working, Genesis. We are here to put on a good face for the FIRST CLASS, and socialize with—”
Sephiroth quietly re-joins them, holding out his hand between the whisper-squabbling young men. Two flutes of a pre-mixed and brightly coloured cocktail balance between his fingers and sips with his other hand.
Genesis takes one. “Thank you! Someone has the right idea.” The fruity taste is almost sickly; he can hardly detect the liquor that is supposedly inside.
“Both of you should know better. This is exactly why Lazard instructed for me to stay—no!” he holds out a hand in front of the drink Sephiroth offers him. “How are you going to—”
“Relax.” Sephiroth pours part of the rejected drink into Genesis’ plastic glass, and the other into his, earning an audible sigh from Angeal. “You have already spoken with every middle-manager in the room about recent promotions.”
“But look around you! We need to look our best. We are surrounded by our own, and Public Safety, Weapons Development, Research and—”
“We are not talking to R and D,” Sephiroth interrupts.
“Sure. But what about all the sub-departments of Weapons Development and Public Safety
?”
Genesis looks away from their tight social triangle for a moment. The sixty-first floor is hardly recognisable. The neon signs of the sectors beyond the dark windows light the edges of the room with purples and reds, while the sterile lights above have been partially dimmed. The tables have been rearranged towards the edges of the floor—the longest two of which have been repurposed to house spreads of finger-foods and myriad drinks. Round tables of social sorts are stocked with shiny buckets of ice coddling white wine, and graveyards of empty glasses interspersed with dark green-tinted bottles. Bland, palatable, but vaguely popular music fails to drown out the laughing and too-loud talking of the hundreds of mingling personnel.
Everyone seems to be at their semi-best, a prettier-than-standard but not-quite-dress-uniform level of “best”. He can see Scarlet on the other end of the hall, looking her usual red self, with a too-tall glass of red, surrounded by red-faced men who seem to enjoy her belittling remarks. The new-FIRST tries not to stare too long; he can feel his eyes un-focussing, smearing the lights around that encased tree display to the edges of his eyesight.
“How do you think they get this so green?” Genesis suddenly wonders aloud, snapping back to the noxious drink in his hand. “Obviously, it is a food dye, but—is it a specific liqueur? A mix of liqueurs? Dye, on its own?”
“You were not even listening to me, were you?”
“It tastes like melon,” Sephiroth adds.
“That is not how melon tastes—this is the extra-sweetened, artificial melon taste you only get in Midgar. Someday, I can show you a real melon.” Genesis lays his free hand on Sephiroth’s upper arm.
“What is the point of—if anything goes wrong tonight, you two are taking the blame.”
Genesis rolls his eyes. “You need to relax. None of us want to be here, we may as well—”
“Do not speak for me. We are FIRSTs now. There are additional responsibilities that come with that, beyond the field—and not just paper—”
“Your six.” Sephiroth interrupts, just loud enough.
A broad hand claps down firmly on Angeal’s shoulder; he can hear the bands of thick rings click against the polished metal guarding his body. “Boys! Hiding away from the action? Shouldn’t you be making the most of yourselves?”

pairing: dad!bucky barnes x au pair!reader
warnings: age gap (reader is 10 years younger than bucky), smut (18+, dni if under 18)
summary: bucky and y/n discuss sadie’s future.
masterlist
She couldn’t believe some asshole had spilled coffee all over her dress and hadn’t even apologised. What was she supposed to do now? She had an interview to attend with someone whose secretary had made him sound like someone who made the dad from Sound of Music seem like the most relaxed man to ever walk the Earth. Yet, here she was about to walk into an interview to be an au pair with coffee stains all over her only interview-appropriate dress. She really needed this job, her tenancy was running out on her home and every single home in New York seemed to be occupied and she was quickly running out of money. If she didn’t get this job, she would be sleeping in the university library, eating whatever free samples she could find in student fairs.
She mentally prayed to whatever gods roamed the skies, hell, the universe - wherever God was - for this man not to notice her stained dress, although the moment she opened the door and the man’s eyes immediately went to the dark spot on her white dress, she knew her prayers went unanswered.
       - Hi, I’m Y/N. - she extended her hand towards his, attempting to block the stain as if he hadn’t seen it already. The man, Sergeant Barnes, was taken aback by the motion, looking at her hand as if she had offered him an offensive comment rather than her hand. - Your secretary said you’d be expecting me.
He cleared his throat, not really saying or doing anything other than pointing to the chair in front of what she guessed was his desk. She looked down at her shoes like a petulant child, feeling like she wasn’t getting the job. They always say to make the best impression - something she was sure she had now failed.
      - You’re studying at NYU ... - he started.
      - Columbia. - she corrected him. - I’m in grad school and I promise I usually don’t look like this. I was trying to get some coffee and this guy spilled his all over me. Blotting didn’t seem to work ...
      - I didn’t ask any of that, Miss Y/N.
      - I know but if you were to call NYU and ask if I go there they wouldn’t know anything about me. I’m really involved in student life at Columbia, I am part of the school paper, I was top of my undergraduate class and I shadowed Dr. Hill’s during early childhood psychology research last year. I also babysat for most of my teenage years.
      - I didn’t ask any of that but glad to know you’re a very good student.
      - Your secretary said you’d also be interested in someone who could tutor your daughter later on and I tutored in high school and my sister only knows maths because I drilled it into her. - she chuckled, nervously but he remained still, looking at her with the best poker face he could muster. - Look, I know you already don’t like me because I have coffee all over myself but you have a 2 year old, right? You must know the feeling of someone throwing stuff at you, maybe not coffee but ink or cereal.
     - My daughter threw her whole orange juice in my face. Twice.
     - Oh ...
     - She’s going through a phase. Terrible twos.
PRESENT DAY
     - I told you so. - Y/N spoke from the living room as Bucky attempted to take the remaining spaghetti noodles from his hair. - You gave her the plate before the knife and fork. That’s just an invitation for her eating with your hands and beginning a food fight.
     - Says the au pair who is currently not doing any au pair work. - he grabbed a clean tea towel, trying to soak up as much tomato sauce from his hair as he could before hopping on a shower. - What are you doing?
    - Have you forgotten I have a PhD to finish possibly in the next 2 years? Data wrangling.
    - You know, I have data analysts ...
    - I know. - she interrupted him. - Details of your utter incompetence at coding languages do not interest me.
    - In my defense, when I was your ...
    - You’re 10 years older than me. - she interrupted him once more, her glasses slightly sliding off the bridge of her nose. - Data science is relatively new but not that new. Go shower before you start growing tomatoes on your head.
Bucky merely chuckled at the idea before taking to the shower. Soon Sadie would turn three and hopefully she would stop throwing every single item of food at him when cutlery wasn’t in place - though Y/N thought it was more likely she would continue to do so until she no longer found it funny. Bucky chose to be more positive, besides, he didn’t like thinking about the future. In two years he’d have to find someone to fill her shoes and he didn’t think it was possible to find someone as good as she was.
On the other hand, Y/N seldom found herself with time to wonder about what life would look like after Sadie. She wanted to continue on working in academia and some of her tutors had suggested she become a junior lecturer at the university, however she preferred not do dwell on the future, specially when she still had to defend her thesis. She also didn’t want to think of not being able to see Sadie. She had become attached to her, she was proud of her achievements and to think she would just become a murky memory in the 2 year old’s brain made her heart hurt.
    - You want something to eat? - Bucky returned from the bathroom, dressed in the loungewear which she did not dwell looking at due to the fact it made her an unhinged woman.
    - We just had dinner.
    - We’re grown ups. Don’t you want some ice cream? - he joked. - C’mon, I’ve hide some from Sadie.
    - I have to finish this data analysis tonight, James. If I don’t, I might as well quit and become Columbia’s biggest disappointment.
     - You think you will become Columbia’s biggest disappointment when Casey Affleck went there?
     - At least he finished his degree. - she looked up from her laptop. - I’m gonna have to move in with my parents.
    - You can live with me and Sadie. I’d much rather you have the girl talks with her.
    - Oh so I get to live here and have to have all the complicated talks with Sadie?
    - Okay. I’ll have birds and the bees, you get puberty, bras, periods, boys, actually scratch that, no boys until she’s 35.
    - 35?
    - You’re right. 85. Actually, make sure she waits until I’m dead.
    - Won’t be too long. - she joked. - Now stop distracting me. I have work to do and as far as I know you’ve only hired me to babysit Sadie and not you.
Bucky sat next to her, his eyes wandering to what she was doing before wandering back. He considered himself a smart man, business savy, but Y/N was smart smart. The kind of smart women who could probably take his business from under him and he wouldn’t even notice.
   - You’re getting Sadie tomorrow? I know you have work at Columbia in the morning so I’m dropping her off but I can’t pick her up.
   - Yeah, it’s on the calendar. - she pointed to the fridge on the kitchen with a pinned up calendar. - Stop talking, you’re distracting me.
   - You know ... I can have my data team give you a hand. - she finally looked up from her laptop. - I’m sure one of the managers would be thrilled to get on my good side.
   - I can do it myself. - she replied, returning back to look at her laptop as if he had offended her.
    - I know, but you don’t have to.
She gave him a split second look, a world of words and feelings in the bright eyes which he was used to seeing everyday, before going back to her laptop. Bucky sighed, not knowing how else to continue the conversation without further upsetting her.
    - If you’re too busy at Columbia, we can discuss how many free days you get a week.
    - I’m fine, Sergeant Barnes.
    - I can take Sadie to the office for one of the weekdays and then you can do your work by yourself.
    - I can handle my work, Sergeant Barnes. It’s fine.
    - You look stressed, Y/N. I won’t take any of your pay if that’s what you’re worried about. C’mon, Y/N, you’re not gonna do any good work if you’re stressed. Please.
She sighed, closing her laptop and stared at him. If she wasn’t staring at him as if he was the most unimpressive man alive, he would’ve high fived himself. Yet, the look on her face and the tears which were starting to pool in her eyes were sufficient to have him immediately forget any single sense of funniness about the situation.
   - I am trying. - she sighed, hoping he hadn’t noticed the tears welling up, yet even the sigh came in interrupted breathes. - I really am trying and I can do it myself.
    - Just because you can doesn’t mean you have to. I want to help you.
    - You hired me to help you not the other way around. - she shut her eyes, trying to somehow store the idea of her thesis away. - I’m just tired and overreacting.
     - You can talk to me. - he moved his chair closer to hers.
     - I just told you I’m tired and overreacting. It’s nothing special. - she rested her forehead on her hand. - Doing a PhD is hard work.
     - I wouldn’t know. Didn’t do one.
     - Maybe you should. You could become Dr. Sergeant Barnes.
     - Too many achievements. - he joked. - I hope your academic vein rubs off on Sadie. I think she’s a pretty smart kid.
     - She is but currently I think that she wants to be a ballerina. Although, last week she wanted to be an astronaut.
      - No can do. No astronauting, I would miss her too much.
      - What did you want to be when you were younger? - she questioned, a loving look gracing her features.
      - I wanted to be a super hero then I wanted to be an accountant.
      - An accountant? - she chuckled. - No way. What kid wants to be an accountant?
     - My uncle was an accountant and I thought he was the coolest. What about you? Wait, let me guess.
     - Go on. - she crossed her arms.
     - A princess?
     - Ugh, stereotypical much?
     - President Barbie?
     - You’re joking but my parents bought me President Barbie when I was a kid, and Doctor Barbie as well. I didn’t like President Barbie’s outfit as much so I stuck to science.
     - Always wanted to be a psychologist?
     - I am not a psychologist, Barnes. I am a scientist.
     - A psychologist scientist.
     - Stop. - she chuckled. - I’m sure Sadie will be fine. She takes after you.
     - She actually takes after her mother sometimes. - he shrugged. - Anna was really smart, bit feisty. Sadie reminds me of her sometimes.
     - You never told me Sadie’s mum’s name. I thought her name would be something like Jessica or Melanie.
     - Do you base your name assumptions on romcom villains?
     - Anna sounds like such a tame name. Not like someone who would just leave her child on her father’s doorstep.
     - She never really wanted a kid. I don’t blame her too much either, she was really bright when we were together, anyway. I do hope that’s all that Sadie takes from her.
     - She looks like you. - Y/N added. - Except for the reddish blonde hair, I’m guessing that’s Anna?
     - Actually, that’s from my mother. My mum’s grandmother had red hair, that’s why she’s spoiled rotten.
     - You’re gonna do fine, Bucky. - she held his hand. - You’re a good dad and she’s gonna turn out just fine.
     - You’re gonna do fine too, Y/N. I am looking forward to calling you Dr. Y/N.
     - Dr. Y/N and Sergeant Barnes.
    - Dr. Y/N and Sergeant Barnes. - he bit the inside of his lip before smiling at her. - What a team.
    - Even though you hated me when you first met me.
    - Whatever you say, Y/N. Whatever you say.

Unlocking Academic Excellence: The Journey to the Best CBSE Results in Neelbad, Bhopal
Introduction: Why Academic Results Still Matter in the Modern Education Landscape

IELTS vs PTE: Which is an Easier English Proficiency Test?
Tumblr media
If you're planning to study, work, or move abroad, you’ll need to prove your English skills. Two of the most popular tests are the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and the PTE (Pearson Test of English). But many students ask: Which one is easier—IELTS or PTE?
The answer depends on your strengths, learning style, and comfort level with technology. Let’s compare both tests so you can decide which one is right for you. If you're currently preparing and need guidance, enrolling in the IELTS best coaching in Ahmedabad can provide you with expert support and practice strategies tailored to your goals.
1. Test Format
IELTS is available in two versions: Paper-based and Computer-based. You will be tested on:
Listening
Reading
Writing
Speaking (face-to-face with an examiner)
PTE is completely computer-based, including the speaking test (which is recorded through a microphone). It also includes:
Speaking & Writing (combined)
Reading
Listening
Which is easier? If you’re comfortable speaking to a person, IELTS might be better. If you prefer typing and using a computer, PTE may feel easier.
2. Scoring System
IELTS scores range from Band 0 to Band 9. Scores are given by human examiners.
PTE scores range from 10 to 90, and your results are generated by an AI system.
Which is easier? PTE scoring is automatic and objective. IELTS scoring in Writing and Speaking may vary depending on the examiner.
3. Speaking Section
In IELTS, you speak directly with a real person. In PTE, you speak into a microphone, and a computer evaluates your answers.
Which is easier? If you’re nervous speaking to someone, PTE might be easier. If you’re more expressive with people, IELTS may be a better fit.
4. Writing Section
IELTS has two tasks:
Task 1: Describe a graph or letter
Task 2: Essay
PTE includes:
Summarizing text
Essay writing
Sentence completion
Which is easier? IELTS writing gives you more freedom with expression. PTE writing is more structured and requires strong grammar and typing skills.
5. Test Duration
IELTS takes about 2 hours 45 minutes.
PTE takes around 2 hours.
Which is easier? PTE is shorter, so you may feel less tired.
6. Result Time
IELTS results take 5–7 days (computer-based) or 13 days (paper-based).
PTE results usually come in 2–5 days.
Which is easier? PTE is faster if you're in a hurry to apply.
7. Availability and Acceptance
Both IELTS and PTE are accepted by thousands of universities and governments in countries like the UK, USA, Australia, and Canada.
Tip: Always check which test your target university or visa program accepts before booking.
Conclusion
So, is IELTS easier or is PTE? It depends on you.
Choose IELTS if:
You’re more comfortable speaking with a person.
You prefer handwritten or structured essay writing.
You want a mix of paper and computer options.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an essential step for individuals aiming to study, work, or migrate to English-speaking countries. Securing a high band score can unlock various opportunities, making thorough preparation a must. One of the most important decisions in this process is selecting the right IELTS Coaching in Ahmedabad. This guide provides valuable insights to help you choose a coaching centre that best suits your learning style and goals. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, the right coaching centre can make a significant difference in your IELTS preparation.
1. Understand Your Requirements
Before selecting a coaching centre, it’s essential to assess your goals and challenges:
Are you taking the Academic or General Training module?
Do you need specific help with any section, such as Speaking or Writing?
What is your target band score?
How much time can you dedicate to preparation?
Knowing your requirements will help narrow down centres that align with your needs.
2. Research the Centre’s Reputation
The reputation of a coaching centre speaks volumes about its quality. Consider the following:
Reviews and Testimonials: Check online reviews, social media pages, and forums to gauge the experiences of past students.
Success Stories: Look for centres with a proven track record of students achieving high band scores.
Accreditations: Centres associated with recognized organizations or having certified trainers are often more reliable.
3. Evaluate the Faculty
Experienced and skilled trainers play a pivotal role in your success. Look for centres that:
Employ trainers with IELTS-specific certifications, such as TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA.
Have teachers who provide personalized feedback and attention.
Offer demo classes to help you assess teaching quality.

A structured curriculum and quality study materials are crucial for effective preparation. Ensure the centre provides:
Comprehensive coverage of all four IELTS sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
Regular mock tests and practice sessions.
Access to updated and authentic study materials, including sample papers and model answers.

8. Look for Additional Support
The best centres often go beyond basic coaching. Check if they provide:
Assistance with IELTS exam registration.
Workshops or seminars for tips and strategies.
Post-course support, such as additional practice sessions.
9. Compare Costs
While quality often comes at a price, ensure the fees are reasonable and within your budget. Look for centres that:
Offer value for money with quality training and resources.
Have transparent fee structures with no hidden charges.
Provide discounts or installment options.
10. Take a Trial Class
Many coaching centres offer free or paid trial classes. Use this opportunity to:
Assess the teaching style and methodology.
Interact with trainers and understand their approach.
Evaluate the learning environment.
11. Seek Recommendations
Personal recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues can be invaluable. They can provide honest insights based on their experiences.

Some centres promise guaranteed improvement or specific band scores. While no one can guarantee results, those with a high success rate are worth considering.

WIP Wednesday
Hey remember when i used to write stuff? Good times. Anyways, here's a snippet of something I wrote that I would like to form into a full fledged fic.
vague modern fantasy au vibes with tommy and ranboo
Tommy quite likes his life the way that it is.
He’s roommates with his best friend. He works at a convenience store in the morning and does comedy open mics in the evening. He's finally settled into the concept of being “an adult” enough that he doesn’t freak out everytime he needs to feed himself. It’s nice. Perhaps it’s not where a younger Tommy wanted to be at this point, but he’s got his whole life ahead of him to get there. Although perhaps the best thing about this life is the fact he gets to meet new people.
L’manberg isn’t a large city by any account, nor is it far from where he grew up, but that doesn’t mean anything in the face of this new life Tommy’s carved out for himself. Everything is new here, save for Tubbo, and even as he settles into a routine he enjoys finding the new in every day.
Today, the new is an enderman pursuing the store he works at, holding two bags of chips and looking back and forth as if choosing the wrong snack will cause the world to explode. Eventually they put one down and walk up to the register with their snack (they ended up choosing dried chorus fruit) and drink (one of those weird milk teas) in hand.
“Anything else?” Tommy scans the two items, pretending like he wasn’t just staring his customer down 30 seconds ago.
“No?” It comes out as more of a question than a statement, Tommy looks up (and slightly to the left (he’s annoying not an asshole)) and proceeds to say the dumbest possible thing one could say.
“Would you like to purchase a Vapely?”
“A what?” Their face pulls into confusion and slight fear at the question, not quite sure what to make of it.
“A Vapely,” Tommy chooses to double down on the bit instead of abandoning it because he makes stupid decisions like that. “The latest and greatest vape to hit the market,”
“What makes it so great?”
“Me, of course.” Tommy straightens out his back and puffs out his chest as he says it. “You’re looking at Vapely’s spokesperson, mascot, and CEO,”
By now they appear to have caught on to the bit as their brows unfurrow slightly.
“And do you have a sample I could try?”
“Vapely does not do handouts,”
“Why?”
“Well, handouts are for the poor, and we hate the poor,”
“Have you considered that by giving handouts to the poor then they’ll see the wonder of Vapely and want to buy more?”
Tommy almost breaks at that suggestion. There’s something particularly comical about the way their demeanor changed from being appalled at the mere suggestion of vaping to joining him in domination of the vaping market.
“Very true, my friend. Perhaps I can whip up a prototype for you to approve?”
“That sounds like a wonderful idea-” their eyes flick down to his badge “Tommy. And where should we go for this meeting?”
“Are you busy this evening
”
“Ranboo, and not really. I just need to finish unpacking.”
“Well fuck that. I’ll meet you at The Den at 10:20pm sharp.” Tommy hits the receipt printer till there’s enough paper that he can jot down the location and time of the meeting. “If you come early you can see some of my other work.”
“Is that so?”
“Indeed I’m not only a brave cashier and an innovative entrepreneur but also a world class comedian. Also you owe $7.42, ”
“Glad to know I’m in the company of a genius,” Ranboo swipes a card over the card reader before grabbing their items. “See you at 10:20 Tommy,”
“See you then Ranboo,”
