More Inside Out lore, found on tvtropes !!!
Disgust originally had a purple dress, and a slightly longer hair style. It's unknown why this was changed, although it's probably so that each character has their own individual color scheme. A maquette of her displayed at the former Disney Art of Animation exhibit showed one potential design would have had really long hair.
In an early draft, Fear (originally called Freddie) was supposed to be Joy's sidekick, not Sadness. One of the reasons this was changed was because it made more sense for Anger, Fear, and Disgust to exist during Riley's culture shocks, another was that the writing team couldn't get much mileage out of the idea aside from a few jokes. A third was to remove the idea of shipping between Joy and Fear—not that that hasn't stopped Starnerve from being one of the most popular ships in the fandom.
One of those particular Joy-Fear drafts involved Riley getting knocked unconscious in the woods and the movie mostly taking place in her head. Bill Hader protested that worrying about Riley would really distract from the journey.
The film's original plot involved Joy trying desperately to keep Riley from growing up by clinging to her childhood. Joy and Fear's journey involved them chasing after a childhood memory. According to Pete Docter, this version of Joy was too aggressive and the staff feared audiences would find her off-putting.
Two characters named Logic and Reason were removed in order to give Riley more free will.
There was going to be a sixth emotion, Surprise, matching more closely with the Ekman classification model Pixar was following, but they decided that was too close to Fear.
There was originally going to be an emotion named Pride, but Disgust ended up taking his place. There was also an emotion named Hope, who ended up mostly merged with Sadness.
Joy was going to be named Optimism, until Pete Docter discovered that optimism is not an emotion.
A few other plot lines for Riley were considered, including her wanting to be the turkey in a Thanksgiving play, and her trying to decide which kind of chips to bring to a party (to show how small things could be a big deal inside her head).
Originally, the film only planned to have Joy with the particle effect, only for it to prove expensive and time-consuming. They decided to scrap it. Then John Lasseter saw it and went "Great! Do it for all of them".
Production designer Ralph Eggleston: You could hear the core technical staff just hitting the ground, the budget falling through the roof. But it was all good. They found a way to make it work.
There was originally going to be more imaginary friends aside from Bing Bong, such as Mrs. Scribbles, a crayon drawing, who helped with the Train of Thought railway system, and a half-Sun that was created from Riley only scribbling half a Sun on the side of a notebook page.
There was originally a Stream of Consciousness beneath the Subconscious area. This concept made it into the Expanded Universe picture book The Bing Bong Book, in which it flows through Imagination Land instead.
There originally was an antagonistic force/character known as "Gloom". However, it ended up being too close to depression for comfort, and Docter didn't want to demean real depression sufferers by having their condition be defeated at the end of the movie, since real depression never just goes away like that. Gloom was therefore cut to avoid Unfortunate Implications, and his role as the personification of Riley's mental breakdown was taken by a literal breakdown, with Riley's personality islands crashing down into the memory dump whenever Riley does something directly counter to the island's intent (not responding to her father's attempts at lightening the mood kills Goofball Island, performing badly and rage-quitting at hockey practice is what does Hockey Island in, Friendship Island crumbles when she finds out Meg has a new friend, stealing her mom's credit card breaks Honesty Island, and Family Island slowly crumbles as she becomes more distant from her parents, culminating in her running away from home).
The earliest concepts started with Riley waking up in Headquarters itself and meeting her emotions, and another concept where Joy served as an entity that hung around Riley's shoulder. The author of the fanfic "Intercom" took the first idea and ran with it.
Sadness was originally going to have a more monstrous and furry appearance (most early Concept Art has her looking similar to a large blue mattress), but was changed to a more human design to make her more sympathetic and non-threatening for audiences. Additionally, the character was initially going to be more demonstrative and constantly wailing, but they decided that would not only get old quick, but that sadness was better displayed with a more somber, dialed-down characterization a la The Eeyore. She was also originally sketched as wearing pajamas (the idea being that sad people often don't feel like changing), which eventually evolved into the sweater she wears in the final product.
They were originally going to have 27 emotions in all, but reverted to five to make it less complicated.
There was going to be a Music Island, though that found its way into the Disney Infinity game.
Although it's a rather moot point in the final product, Bing Bong's first appearance involves him hoarding memory orbs into his sack. Animator Matt Jones shows some old concepts which clarified that Bing Bong was addicted to collecting memory orbs with him playing with Riley and he eventually came upon the memory where he was relinquished from her childhood. There was also a scrapped scene in that draft where he utters a curse word.
Riley's mind went through a lot of different variations. One sketch depicted it as a fantastic city.
The next film in Pixar's roster was meant to be Newt. However, due to problems in pre-production (i.e., Rio beat them to it by a longshot), the project was handed to Pete Docter, who instead decided to pitch a completely new idea.
An early Concept Art has the emotions literally plugged into Riley's mind as they monitored Riley's physical state.
Joy and Bing Bong were also going to disguise themselves at some points.
The crew went through a lot of ideas about what Riley's conflict would be over. One of the ideas was whether or not to buy lime flavored chips.
Disgust went through a lot of different designs, mostly because the staff couldn't figure out whether she was supposed to be disgusted or disgusting.
At one point, Riley's growing up was represented by new construction occurring, and Bing Bong was some kind of Well-Intentioned Extremist displeased with the construction being at the expense of other areas (we see remains of that with the demolition crews in Imagination Land) and attempting to sabotage it.
Bing Bong's dog-like ears originally came from an early concept of Bing Bong that was part chicken, dog, and pig, but mostly elephant.
In the original draft of the film, the slow deterioration of Family Island did not lead to Joy and Bing Bong falling in. According to The Art Of Inside Out, Goofball Island's collapse was supposed to lead to them falling down. The line "See you after school, monkey! We love you!" appears to be an artifact of this idea. Also in the same draft, Riley slamming the door after being told to go to her room led to the collapse of the bridge to Headquarters, not the fall of Goofball Island.
Justin Bieber was going to have a cameo in the film.
The Pixar team originally had Hayley Mills in mind for the role of Joy. Mills also played the trope namer for The Pollyanna, a character known for her relentless optimism.
Bing Bong was planned to walk on his hands and hind legs to travel rather than standing in one of the later concepts.
Bing Bong was originally an angry, gruff-voiced, violent anarchist. This Bing Bong was actively rebelling against any signs that Riley was growing up. In one deleted scene, he spies some construction workers expanding Riley's mind and immediately starts chucking bricks at them. According to director Pete Docter, the idea was that Bing Bong used violence to make sure Riley didn't grow up, all "for his own self-benefit."

Anger, Disgust, Fear, Joy, and Sadness in Inside Out (Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen, 2015)
Cast (voices): Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Richard Kind, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Kaitlyn Dias, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan. Screenplay: Pete Docter, Ronnie Del Carmen, Meg LeFauve, Josh Cooley, Michael Arndt, Simon Rich, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler. Production design: Ralph Eggleston. Film editing: Kevin Nolting. Music: Michael Giacchino.
Nessun maggior dolore / Che ricordarsi del tempo felice / Nella miseria -- There's no greater sorrow than remembering happy times in misery. What was true of Paolo and Francesca, Dante's lovers in hell, is also true of 11-year-old Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) in Inside Out. This extraordinarily clever Pixar animated movie takes an ancient premise and does wonderful things with it. Though it purports to be a whimsical treatment of modern psychological theories about the role of emotions in the formation of personality, it's a kind of moral allegory, not unlike the moral fables of all eras, including John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. Riley and her parents (Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan) have moved to San Francisco from Minnesota. The shock of adjusting to a new home and a new school plunges Riley into misery, made worse by her remembrances of the happy times when she felt secure, had friends, and was a star on her hockey team. Her emotions -- Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) -- lose control of her personality, and things begin to fall apart. It's an astute and original (despite its ancient precedents) look at the way we learn to face life, brilliantly animated and skillfully voiced by a great cast.

Another morning of rising with the work-from-home alert. Today we work-from-home! We got attending a deposition and filing court documents. But first, even more laundry. I wish I had a better sense of how full hampers are rather than just eyeballing them. And once more, Markus is starving. He shall be satiated with green beans.
Attending disposition and we return to bills. 7,414 of them. Seems me deleting a lot of decorative gardening did help a bit, but that’s still a huge chunk. Also we can petition to repeal a NAP! Now, I can see why Juiced Community got voted in, just glancing over at the Eclectic Artists Household but eeeeeeh. Don’t want to see everyone dazed all the time. But first, work! After food. Speaking of which, Markus is able to actually spend some time with his blocks. Low fun need and all that. And then I struggled with lots of routing stuff for Markus and this garden salad. Bah. And with all that done, it’s time to take our son with us to go and chat with other households about this NAP!
So NAP repeals require you to canvas a neighborhood to ask “HEY SIGN MY PETITION.” Thankfully, there are actually loads of people within this neighborhood to ask about repeal signatures before I go and try to pull in other people Meredith knows. First Eclectic Artists, which I do not expect many signatures from. Oh but, Markus is sleepy so let’s send him to daycare. Take him off my hands! No from Erwin Pines, one from Alice Martin, one from Mark Eggleston, and one from Leslie Holland. ...honestly it sounds about right that Erwin would be the only one who wouldn’t give his signature, paranoid as he is. Also I sent the Geeks that Meredith knew of and had her talk up Simeon to them. Let the fellow Geeks find each other and make friends! Now we move onto Meredith’s former home and talk with the Banks! We only need two more votes, let’s see if the other households are co-operative. No dice with Tyson Banks so over to the last home. In which, we nab the occupants dinner for we ourselves are hungry too. It was awful though so...welp. No dice from Sabina Slade as well. But we found out she was a snob so once more, we talk up Simeon to her! Guy’s going to be overloaded with friends. Three out of five is a good start though. Only two more left to repeal this. But for now, we sleep!
Neighborhood Watch!
Jade Edding in the Edding household is now a Coffee Stain Remover in the Barista career.
Christian Fuentes in the Fuentes household has died. Cristian stayed in the sun a little too long and overheated.
Ah. RIP. Someone was a friend of you so I know to say RIP.
Henford-on-Bagley: The Ota household has moved in.
Again, short days. Let’s continue onwards! So we finally have time for Meredith to focus on her wants and whims and first things first, is to chat with George Cahill. Oh boy! Let’s bring Markus’s father over! ...anyway, she finally found out what George’s career is. Being a get-away driver in the Criminal career! IT’S ARGUMENT TIME! Wait, first let’s ask about NAPs. Those odds will likely lower once we have that argument. No dice. Anyway, ARGUMENT TIME! Ooo, she won the argument! Time to suggest better career paths! Ha! We got the “I don’t think I know you well enough to have this conversation.” Their relationship has dropped down to acquantences after George broke off their romantic relationship.
But instead of working on their relationship, we have Markus instead approaching his dad. He saw that he was playing with some sort of toy (-ahem- a voodo doll) and showed his! Playing and getting his imagination up. Nice! It was then that George headed off. Bye for now George! Meanwhile, Meredith’s second whim is to make 1000 Simoleaons. Which, nice but I have plans. So instead we work on smaller woodworks. And as for Markus, we have him roam around the house looking at things.
And then the Finchwick Fair started up! Honestly, Meredith seems like the type to just go and visit, even if she doesn’t have the room or space to keep her own farm animals. She would be a farm gal, if her lot size allowed for such huge objects like cows or llamas. Don’t even think I can squeeze a chicken in here. Markus is all set up with toys, and I remembered to bring a potty. Let’s go!
Tumblr media
Henford-on-Bagley’s fairs are to showcase your farm products. Like a lot of small county fairs! Though, naturally, I was more interested in the games and some of the rides as a kid. ...I didn’t trust all of them. Naturally, this one is a lot more scaled back, as it simply has the wool and llama showcase. Alas.
Tumblr media
SHULK!? From Xenoblade? He’s a llama guy!? Anyway, I had Meredith pick up a lot of stuff from the nearby gardening and grocery stalls. ...might want to hold off on doing that a lot because HO BOY MY MONEY. I then wanted to look around and see if there was anyone I wanted her to be social with. No one immediately stood out expect the garden shop owner Agatha Crumplebottom. ...quite a few of the Henford-On-Bagley residents were taken by Grim and his watchfullness so a bit of the character has been lost, alas. Anyway, we found out she’s another snob so ANOTHER FRIEND FOR SIMEON. All the friends for Simeon.
...Henford-On-Bagley does have an errand system and I would consider doing it...but hmm. Meredith is real tied up with her work. Anyway, I had Meredith look at a llama and had her talk to Shulk. Markus’s needs are getting low so he’s heading back home. And by home, I mean daycare. Another geek found! This time I’m directing Shulk Erwin’s way. She found out he’s good! Finally! Someone to befriend on her own terms! I attempted to have them play a game of foosball at the bar, but alas, he went home. Meredith was hungry so a meat pie was ate and then she was sleepy so time  to return home. Also Markus got skill level 5 thinking at the daycare. Wooooo. Bedtime and also-

The first post
28th Jan 2023
So Bobby woke up and had a coffee, but not until he was fully awake. He had read somewhere earlier in the week that for the brain it is better to wait until all those things are physically connected inside your head, the synapses need time to fill in and make sense for the cogito ergo sum thing, as in wake up and then go.
So he was sitting on his own in the living room of his rented house in South side, on his own, and he was thinking about the evening when he was gonna go to the opening of Bill’s exhibition at the C/O Gallery. He also remembered that he had seen, years ago, a documentary from the BBC with Alan Yentob, about Bill, about Bill’s life and his career. So he put it on, on the telly and watched it for a little bit - it was earlier than noon lol. But then he thought it’d be nicer to watch it just before going to the Vernissage, with other friends, who would come over later.
Thus.
Bobby took the U-Bahn to C/O.
things Bobby liked:
running into more of his friends outside the c/o
things Bobby didn’t like:
the frames, they were too thick considering the small size of the prints
the fact that they left a podium and stage up in front of one of the works
the typography
the surprisingly small amount of works that were presented, and none of them were a surprise or a new discovery
Bobby came home, a bit early with a little bit of a headache, and finished his pizza from earlier and ate some chocolate bonbons. (He also realized he likes Bayreuther beer and a bit of Grevensteiner)
He got a bit drunk too - in Berlin it is easy to get hold of fermented bamboo juice, too easy.
And he forgot about the Nan exhibit at the Akademie fuer Kuenste he went to see with this cool friend. There he really understood the thing about the decisive moment, he adored, although the one famous picture had a shadow cursed through its frame, it was not a good angle by the ones who did the lighting you know, although the exhibit is so well lit. And it was a beautiful thing. So it is recommended, gosh his posh said, one of the best.
But Bill’s was also good, because before leaving his cave he watched the documentary, with her friends. It was funny, and it was important to be there. But maybe, like some of his friends said, it’d be good to be there with less people aka not at the opening. Bill is a great photographer, but also a mystery, almost like from another time you know and it was nice to see the random teens present at the opening having a respectful blast.
But Nelson said that Bill should have had the whole of the building to himself, like a proper retrospective. Samoylova was alright.
Cool, but the comparison to Walker is a steep step to take. Bobby gnarled.

Schrammels Held in diesem Zusammenhang: Bill Eggleston.
