while i'm thinking about pens, here's a lil "what's in my pencil case" post cuz it's been a minute since i've done one. can you tell my favorite color? lmao.
detail shots, writing sample & notes about everything under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first we have our basic, "staple" pens and such, in order from the top left down and to the right:
+Zebra bLen FM2 Ballpoint Pen 0.5 mm - this particular version was a limited edition but JetPens sells other colors/models. to be honest i mostly got this because of the aesthetics of it, but the gimmick is that it's supposed to not "rattle" or shake as much as other pens, making it a smoother "stress-free" writing experience and i suppose that would be true if the ink didn't skip so ding dang much. i give it a 4.5/10
+Zebra Sarasa Push Clip Gel Pen 0.5 mm Black - ohhh now we're talkin. my first true stationery crush. i own these in every color they come in. you're never gonna go wrong with a zebra sarasa. as a lefty i'm wary of smudges and these puppies dry fast and don't skip. i would marry this pen if i could.
+Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen Hard Tip - my preferred choice for doing brush pen lettering. i like the fude touch sign pens from pentel too but their ink tends to be too juicy for me as a lefty & it's a smudge hazard, but tombows are perfect.
+ Sakura Pigma Micron 10 (0.6 mm) - this is actually a new thing, i was messing around with different headers a few weeks ago and after i was done i was too lazy to stick this back where it goes with its family, so i put it in my pencase. but you never know when you need a nice thick black marker to do headers and stuff in your bullet journal, you know?
+Sakura Gelly Roll White 10 & Glitter - these two are almost impossible to swatch but very useful for doing fun ~effects~ on ur headers. the white is about as opaque as i've found in a gel pen, and the glitter is transparent so it goes over pretty much everything and just adds a hint of bling.
+Zebra DelGuard Mechanical Pencil 0.5 mm Hello Kitty & eraser - no joke the best mechanical pencil i've ever tried, i will never use another. it's one of them fancy japanese over-engineered sorts of things, and it's got all sorts of mechanics in it to keep lead from breaking, and it WORKS. as someone who prefers a fine lead in my pencils, having your pencil constantly shatter is frustrating as hell but i have literally never had that problem with these. the eraser is, i think, from sun star, idk. i got it cuz it was cute but it's really nothing special.
+Midori Multi Ruler 30 cm - this thing is super helpful for getting straight lines when doing bullet journal headers. the hinge helps it fold up compact & also lets it work as a compass but i typically don't worry about that.
Tumblr media
next up, our ~fun colors~ starting with our minty greens
+Pentel Energel Clena w/ Turquoise Blue refill 0.5 mm - this originally came with a black ink refill but i wanted it to match so i bought a turquoise one separately and i think it's super cute. in case it isn't obvious mint green/teal are my favorite colors and so i love carrying around multiple options to give my notes a lil pop of my fav shade.
+Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen Emerald Green - another new addition to the pen case, i honestly just stuck it in here because i didn't have enough room in the green section of my brush pen/marker organizer lol. but you know, it's my go-to fav color, it's helpful to keep around. like i mentioned up above i sometimes struggle with the pentel brush pens cuz of how juicy the ink is, so i don't use them as often, but the color is really pretty and they write very nicely.
+Zebra Mildliner Highlighter Mid Blue-Green - of course i am a basic bitch who loves mildliners. i own literally every color & this one is only here because it's a duplicate, and so i just stuck it in the pencil case to match everything else. but you know, every situation can be improved with a mildliner i think. (also stationery confession- am i the only one who likes the brush pens better than the regular highlighters? cuz i do. they're fun!!)
+Sakura Gelly Roll Moonlight 1.0 mm Pastel Green - another pen i am only keeping in here because it doesn't fit with the rest of my gel pens (i may or may not have a problem) but again, it matches.
Tumblr media
finally, we have the Zebra Sara Push Clip Gel Pens 0.5 mm in Vintage Colors. did you think i was kidding when i said this was my favorite pen & i own every color? i meant every. color.
i really like these vintage ones because they're more readable than some of the bright/pastel shades of the regular pens. very sophisticated. also that green black matches so beautifully with all my favorite minty green shades.
so there you have it, everything i keep in my everyday pen case. if you're wondering this is a Sun Star Delde pencil case, this colorway doesn't exist anymore but i love these slide kind of pencil cases that turn into standing pen cups. very convenient to keep out on your desk. and, of course, it matches everything else. :D

What kinds of pens do you use when writing? Any favourites? I really like the richness of the blank ink in the photos of your notebook I have been looking for some good stationery ♡
I use Muji gel ink pens in 0.38mm black! They're my absolute favorite, I have 2-6 of them on me at any moment. ♡ Muji does a good job manufacturing finepoint pens with a smooth roll and rich ink that also have a decent drydown time. I do get some smearing when I use it on Moleskin or Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks due to their closed gloss paper, but the pens write on paper, skin, fabric, etc. Plus, they're refillable, so I don't feel so bad about the plastic casing!

OTPtember 2022 day 25. Trying out the art style that I use for my OC witches, but on Dimiclaude.
The other day (9/21/2022), I thought I should try drawing my OTPs in the style that I've been drawing OC witches for Witchtober 2022 (and since Inktober 2020): black and white monochrome; mostly simple silhouettes; omitted/minimal faces.
9/25/2022. Copic Gasenfude brush pen, Copic markers, Platinum Preppy fountain pen using Noodler's Ink. Some clean-up with white-out, Gelly Roll white gel pen, Uniball Signo 207, and Krita.
I think there's something wrong with my Copic 100 marker. I added ink refill, but the nib still makes streaky strokes. The only thing that smoothed it out was rubbing alcohol, added directly to my marker nib. So is all the ink in my marker nib clotting/drying? Why isn't adding more ink, remoisturizing it? Is my nib messed up? Should I replace it? Or is my marker barrel messed up? Should I just get a whole new marker? I've got all kinds of Copic Sketch marker problems like this: nibs with crystalizing ink clumps, nibs that stay dry no matter how much ink I add, nibs that just won't absorb more ink refill, etc. I don't know if the nib or the barrel is the problem, so I'm not sure what to replace. I will say that most of my Copic markers with problems are from the Sketch 25th anniversary set. So I don't know what's wrong with that set. Maybe it's just my specific set; maybe it's all the anniversary sets. I don't know. If anyone can help give me clues, you'd have my thanks.

The Enchantment of Gel Pens in India: A Colorful Journey
In the vibrant world of stationery, gel pens have emerged as icons of creativity and utility. These colorful writing instruments have captured the hearts and imaginations of countless individuals, particularly in India, where their popularity continues to soar. From schoolchildren to professionals, gel pens have become an indispensable tool for self-expression and daily tasks. Let's delve into the captivating story of gel pens and their impact in India.
A Brief History
Gel pens revolutionized the writing experience when they first appeared on the market in the 1980s. They offered smoother and more vivid ink flow compared to traditional ballpoint pens, thanks to their gel-based ink formula. The gel ink, typically water-based and pigmented, allowed for a wider range of colors and enhanced visibility on paper. This innovation quickly gained traction worldwide, including in India, where stationery enthusiasts embraced the gel pen's unique qualities.
Rise to Popularity in India
In India, gel pens gained popularity during the late 1990s and early 2000s. They were initially perceived as a premium writing tool, often associated with smoother writing experiences and richer ink colors. As educational institutions and workplaces recognized the benefits of gel pens, their demand surged. Students favored gel pens for taking notes, highlighting textbooks, and completing assignments, while professionals appreciated their precision for tasks like document signing and note-taking during meetings.
Diversity in Colors and Styles
One of the enduring appeals of gel pens is the vast array of colors and styles available. Indian consumers have access to gel pens in every hue imaginable, from classic blues and blacks to vibrant pinks, purples, and greens. This diverse color palette caters to various preferences and purposes. Gel pens also come in different tip sizes, including fine, medium, and bold, allowing users to customize their writing experience based on individual needs.
The Artistic Revolution
Beyond practical use, gel pens have spurred an artistic revolution in India. Artists, illustrators, and hobbyists have embraced gel pens for creating intricate drawings, colorful doodles, and captivating artworks. The gel ink's smooth flow and vibrant pigments make it ideal for adding depth and character to creative projects. Social media platforms have further amplified this trend, with users sharing their gel pen creations and inspiring others to explore artistic expression.
Brand Diversity and Innovation
Several renowned brands have contributed to the popularity of gel pens in India. Names like Luxor, Cello, Reynolds, and Pilot dominate the market, each offering unique gel pen models tailored to different consumer preferences. From affordable everyday options to premium gel pens designed for professionals, these brands continuously innovate, introducing features like ergonomic grips, retractable tips, and archival-quality ink.
Impact on Education and Work Culture
Gel pens have left a lasting imprint on education and work culture in India. In schools and colleges, gel pens are a staple in students' pencil cases, valued for their smooth writing and color-coded organization. In offices, professionals rely on gel pens for note-taking, drafting documents, and adding personal flair to their work. The versatility of gel pens has transformed mundane tasks into enjoyable experiences, fostering productivity and creativity.
The Future of Gel Pens in India
As India embraces digital technologies, gel pens continue to hold a special place in the hearts of millions. They represent a tangible connection to handwritten communication and artistic expression—analog experiences that transcend the digital realm. Manufacturers are responding to evolving consumer preferences by introducing eco-friendly options, refillable cartridges, and hybrid ink formulations that combine the best qualities of gel and ballpoint pens.
Conclusion
In essence, gel pens have woven themselves into the fabric of everyday life in India. They embody the joy of writing, the thrill of creativity, and the nostalgia of childhood memories. As the stationery landscape evolves, gel pens remain timeless companions, offering a colorful journey through the written word. Whether you're a student, artist, or professional, there's a gel pen waiting to inspire your next masterpiece or illuminate your thoughts on paper. Embrace the magic of gel pens—where every stroke tells a story and every color paints a picture of India's enduring love affair with stationery.

Innovations in Ball Pen Design: Balancing Style and Functionality
Tumblr media
Ballpoint pens have long been a staple in the world of writing instruments, offering convenience, reliability, and ease of use. Over the years, innovations in ball pen design have transformed these everyday tools into stylish accessories that combine aesthetic appeal with functional excellence. This article explores the latest innovations in ball pen design, highlighting how manufacturers are balancing style and functionality to meet the evolving needs of consumers.
1. Ergonomic Designs for Enhanced Comfort
One of the key innovations in ball pen design is the emphasis on ergonomic features to enhance writing comfort. Manufacturers are incorporating contoured grips, rubberized surfaces, and balanced weight distribution to reduce hand fatigue and improve writing posture. Ergonomic designs not only make ball pens more comfortable to use for extended periods but also minimize strain on the hands and wrists, promoting a more enjoyable writing experience.
2. Customizable Options for Personalization
Another trend in ball pen design is the availability of customizable options that allow consumers to personalize their writing instruments. From interchangeable ink cartridges and refillable mechanisms to customizable barrel colors and finishes, manufacturers are catering to individual preferences and tastes. Customizable ball pens not only offer a unique way to express personal style but also provide flexibility and versatility in writing tasks.
3. Sustainable Materials for Environmental Consciousness
In response to growing concerns about environmental sustainability, many ball pen manufacturers are embracing eco-friendly materials and production methods. Innovations in ball pen design include the use of recycled plastics, biodegradable components, and renewable resources such as bamboo and corn-based plastics. By incorporating sustainable materials into their products, manufacturers are reducing their carbon footprint and contributing to a more environmentally conscious industry.
4. Advanced Ink Technologies for Smoother Writing
Advancements in ink technology have led to the development of high-performance formulations that deliver smoother, more consistent writing experiences. From quick-drying inks that prevent smudging to archival-quality inks that resist fading and discoloration, manufacturers are continually improving the quality and performance of ball pen inks. These innovations ensure crisp, clear lines with every stroke and minimize the risk of ink blobs or skips, enhancing the overall writing experience.
5. Innovative Mechanisms for Convenience and Versatility
Innovations in ball pen design also extend to the mechanisms used to deploy and retract the pen tip. Manufacturers are introducing new features such as twist-action mechanisms, click-top buttons, and magnetic closures for added convenience and ease of use. Additionally, multi-function designs that combine ball pens with other tools such as styluses, flashlights, or laser pointers offer enhanced versatility for a wide range of tasks.
6. Sleek and Stylish Aesthetics for Visual Appeal
In addition to functionality, ball pen manufacturers are paying greater attention to aesthetics, offering sleek and stylish designs that appeal to fashion-conscious consumers. From minimalist designs with clean lines and metallic accents to bold patterns and vibrant colors, ball pens are becoming fashion accessories that reflect individual tastes and personalities. Whether it's a classic black-and-chrome executive pen or a trendy pastel-colored gel pen, there's a ball pen to suit every style preference.
Innovations in ball pen design are transforming these everyday writing instruments into stylish accessories that blend form and function seamlessly. From ergonomic designs that prioritize comfort to customizable options that allow for personalization, ball pens are evolving to meet the diverse needs and preferences of consumers. With advancements in sustainable materials, ink technologies, and mechanism designs, the future of ball pen innovation looks promising, promising even smoother, more enjoyable writing experiences for years to come.

Frewer's Phrictionary of Daze & Babel
I’ve started pronouncing “Zebra” like a twat. “Twat”, also.
If you’re in the market for a good disposable fountain pen (and who isn’t these days?), I can definitely tell you I’ve tried a new one lately. Hold up. Thing is, right, I said to myself that I wanted to use up all this paper I have in the office so the trees will not have been sacrificed in vain. It’s noble of me, really. And while I love my fountain pens (and want to use them so that the celluloid and iridium wells will not have been tapped in vain), it’d be a bugger if one of these pricey ink-slingers got dropped in a wood chipper, say. Or an unfortunate amount of blood.
So I picked up a Pilot Varsity from Maido, because those are just adorable. (Why didn’t I just put some of this frankly overwhelming collection of bottled inks into one of my many, many refillable cheap-ass Preppies or the like? Because I do want the ink mines depleted in vain. It’s a long story, or it will be, if I can get through this obstinate parenthetical.) The Varsity, though, had a thicker line than I really wanted for the type of notepads I’m secreting about my person. I decided to push the boat out a bit.
Lo, Jetpens! and the remarkably named Zebra Zensation. (This parenthetical, less obstinate, is to let you know that the review linked there is much more straightforward than this one. Which is not a review. Hold up.) I like the Zebra Sarasa gel pens, but I’ve had piss-poor experiences with the nasty office supply store cartridge Zebra fountain pens that have come my way. These looked pretty groovy, though, and I got one in black because it won’t reflect in the searchlight when I like to check a baseline pen performance. Reader, it wrote like a fucking charm of grace and precision. Lovely. Simple. You can take it anywhere. Click goes the cap. Bang go the words. Brilliant. I promptly lost the fucker within a week.
waning Gait and my bink keeps sacking up
It’s good to be alive though, innit? I ordered a second Zensation pen and Doctor Who is back on, again. Double meaning.
And hey, look at that! Someone’s just dropped of some Strange New Star Trek in my belfry. Too bad I’ve got so much “taking care of my life” going these days. Time, Fire, Mars, and Ahab!
Gallifrey One tickets still available
I don’t know. Who knows anything?

Thoughts about Pilot FriXion Erasable Gel Pens
Tumblr media
I'm going to be honest, I didn't love these at first, but they've grown on me a lot over the last few weeks of using them. It's become my go-to pen while at work (and is gradually becoming my go-to at home, as well), where I am oft to make mistakes when writing, and being able to erase saves me from using up a roll of Wite-Out after just a few weeks. More thoughts and pictures under the cut.
Like I said, my initial impressions of the pens were Not Great. When I first tested it out, I was really disappointed in how light the ink was. I would definitely consider the pigment more of a dark grey than a black, but I suppose that is the cost of it being able to be erase via friction. It doesn't bother me all that much anymore, but I do still prefer the look of my Uniball Signo 207 Micro gel pen.
I will say, the ink in these pens is very runny/wet when it first drops to the paper. The ink drops to the paper pretty inconsistently from the Frixion Ball Clicker pen I originally bought in size 0.7mm, so some strokes of the pen will look darker than others or just darker in different parts of the pen stroke. I don't find this quite as noticeable with the Frixion Point Synergy Clicker pen in size 0.5mm. I wouldn't say the ink flow is super consistent with either pen, but there's rarely any skipping or near complete lack of ink flow, like I tend to get with a lot of my Paper Mate InkJoy gel pens. At a glance, it looks almost as consistent as my Uniball, so I can't complain too much. (Dated writing is the FriXion Synergy and the "testing 1 2 3" is the Uniball Signo.)
Tumblr media
Despite the ink being pretty wet when it drops to the paper, once it is dried, I have no problems with it streaking when rubbed or marked over with a highlighter or marker. It does take significantly longer to dry on smoother paper like the Tomoe River Paper found in Hobonichis, but it takes almost no time to dry on the paper I use in my 6-ring journal. Even though it smudges more easily on TRP, it's at least erasable, so mistakes are less noticeable than if I were to use Wite-Out. (Below are notes I took in my A6 Hobonichi notebook about music a student was sharing with me at work.)
Tumblr media
A downside about erasing with this pen is that even though most of the pen's pigment is lifted, there is still a ghost of where the pigment was left on the page. It's hardly noticeable unless you know to look for it and if it's already been written over again. Also, I've found that thinner paper will warp and form a slight divot in the paper from being erased, and if you erase of the same part multiple times on thicker paper, it will have the same results. And I suppose this is just a natural result of using a hard tip that needs to be pressed hard and fast enough to the paper to create friction that will remove the ink. It can also be harder to get the ink to drop onto the paper where it has already been erased over more than once. Not really things that make or break the pen for me, but it kinda killed my idea of using this pen for temporary/daily checklists I could reset by erasing at the end of everyday. (Below are close-ups of writing tests. There's a lot going on with these pages since I used them for a lot of tests, but the main focus is meant to be the FriXion pens.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess all that's left is the aesthetics of the pens. I wasn't super fond of the bodies of either the 0.7 or Synergy 0.5 pens, but I did have a slight preference for the body of the 0.7 body after having both. I originally planned on just putting the 0.5 ink refill into the 0.7 body, but the eraser on the Synergy pen is slightly more tapered than the 0.7 and works better with the thinner pen tip. I'm also not generally someone who prioritizes pen aesthetics for the most part. I like have cute/pretty pens, but I generally prefer something that suits my functionality needs.
Tumblr media
Overall, I do really like the functionality and convenience of these pens, and while I do wish they were able to produce a darker black and more consistent pigment, I don't really have any qualms with how these pens look on paper with what I use them for.
