Christmas Rose Fanart
Tumblr media
Last art for the convention I'm going to! Decided to do a smol art of Christmas Rose from BOFURI to get signed by his VA! I already got a few things signed by this VA last time I went to a con he was at, so I thought it may be fun/funny to get art signed of a character he voiced in maybe two episodes of a show I like (plus ngl this was one of the more fun character designs of stuff he's voiced, and I needed the practice with male anatomy)

Just watched the new episode of Bofuri!! Thoughts:
I sighed when I saw the title, I’m so sick of seeing Christmas stuff at this point
New intro is very good but I’m really gonna miss the original
Kaede has plushies of the in game creatures and monsters in her bedroom irl!! I spotted that rabbit she first fought and of course the dragon mascot
I love that Maple is single-handedly thrashing the boss meant to take entire guilds to defeat while the rest of her guild just stands there staring and says “yeah same shit as always, you go girl”
Frederica’s obsessive rivalry with Sally reads as VERY gay, which delights and breaks my Maple/Sally shipping heart in equal measure
Love that while every other member of Maple Tree was making a sincere effort to explore the new level, Kanade seemingly just hunkered down in a library for an entire day and did not budge. I don’t know if that’s what happened, but the snapshots with everyone else running around while they’re sitting and holding a book definitely implied it
Also love how they’re all this very colorful and bright and pretty cutesy looking group. And then there’s Kuromu in black and scarlet, six feet tall with a skull mask and dripping in death imagery
MII AND MAPLE AT A CAT CAFE ITS SO CUTE I LOVE THEM
Also Maple trying to lie to Markus and Misery so Mii can maintain her tough girl image only to nearly reveal it immediately, such a lovable dork
Payne and Maple teaming up only for it to end with Maple just steamrolling everything solo for a good while was hilarious
Eternally amused by the Devs with their furry avatars just losing it at Maple’s rapid rate of evolution and general game-breaking habits
Another group party!! I love how outsiders are eternally mystified that Maple keeps inviting enemies into the guild house for social events while the rest of the actual guild just laughs it off
The eternal pain of gear that is very useful, resilient, and comes with bonuses but is also very ugly
Overall I just missed this so much, Bofuri is so wholesome and fun! Definitely a much needed source of levity in life right now.

BOFURI Season 2 might be one of the only sequel seasons of an anime that doesn't introduce any new characters.

Bofuri Season 2 Review: Does It Live Up to Season 1’s Hype?
Greetings, anime enthusiasts! Today, we are diving into the world of gaming and anime with my Bofuri season 2 review. As an avid fan of game-based anime, I have to say that Bofuri season 1 has always held a special spot in my heart. It was a hilarious, action-packed series that I couldn’t get enough of. Needless to say, when the second season was announced, I was beyond excited. However, as I watched the first few episodes of season 2, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. The storyline felt a bit lackluster, and it didn’t have the same magic as the first season.
But, as they say, patience is a virtue. And, boy, did that hold true for Bofuri season 2! As the season progressed, the story picked up, and the characters began to develop in ways I never expected. The second half of the season was particularly exceptional, and I feel that it deserves more recognition than it has received.

Bofuri: I Don't Want To Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense Volume 2
Tumblr media
So I'm certainly a "fan" of Bofuri, I really enjoyed the first season and I've been keeping up with the second, but so far the follow-up season just hasn't quite scratched that itch. Along with that, I've been feeling like a nice break in terms of light novel content, so I was reminded that I already had Bofuri Vol. 2 sitting on my shelf. So of course I dug into it and finished it in a day haha.
I won't really sugarcoat my thoughts though, the writing of the light novel is not anything incredible or insightful, or even all that detailed at times. It's very rough around the edges, it's what you think of when you think of the "average" Web Novel. The author had an idea and passion, and followed through on it. It's relatively simple in that regard, but I think that helps its case truthfully.
Bofuri is like Iyashikei for light novels. Even though it's not really a slice of life (Iyashikei is a subgenre of SoL that's meant to be very "calming"), the overall experience reading it is very casual and relaxing. You sort of sink into it and lazily follow around the Goddes of Defense and her Gaming Prodigy companion. They get into combat here and there and fight some crazy enemies, but it's hardly ever intense or anything of the sort. It's more often comedic or enjoyable, the writing style and overall content appeals to the experience that Maple and Sally are having in the game, which I find really nice.
Being reminded of the fact that it's a game though, I really do enjoy the detail they place in it as a video game. Skills and stuff are pretty accurate (to a degree, considering Maple exists), the combat is a really solid/interesting mix of real skill and using skills from within the game, and the overall sense of the world is solid.
I'm going to disparage the anime a little bit here, but the light novel has a much better sense of progression and time. Especially as I get into this second volume and think about how fast paced the anime is, it's nice to see how slow and steady they take it here. Fights take much longer, travel time is explained and experienced, and overall events are more spread out. It dials the pacing back a couple of notches and really helps with that relaxing feeling. And of course, the anime skips out on a good few moments.
Overall, it reminds me of the kind of adaptation that Bofuri is, and why I might be feeling a little empty in regards to its second season. The light novel just has a far better sense of itself and a stronger frame of reference from within. Maple is still insanely broken and hilarious in the LN, but at the same time we quickly see and are reminded of the fact that there remain holes in her armor and ability. Along with that we're hinted towards more mysteries and treasures in the world that Maple and Sally haven't conquered, which helps widen the reader's perspective on it as a whole.
So where the anime adaptation of Bofuri is always good for a laugh or two with its insane situations, the light novel will still get a chuckle out of you, though less often, and will put more effort into providing a complete story and world. It's not really that massive of a change, but if you really liked the concept of Bofuri after having watched the first season, you'll probably like the novels just as much if not more. It's certainly got me wanting to read the next volume, even if it isn't the most stellar or engaging writing, simply because it's fun and easy.

Anime dropped this year 16: Bofuri: I Don't Want to get Hurt, So I'll Max out my Defense Season 2
2 episodes watched
4/10
Transcript under the cut
So, when I finally finished watching the first season of Bofuri last year after having put it on hold for a good long time, I was pretty sure that I didn't really need to see the upcoming season two. For me, the joke of having characters stumble into absolutely gamebreaking combos had pretty much run its course and I felt like I was going to end up just getting more bored of it the longer it went on.  However, I also figured that it had been a good nine months at least since I had watched the original season, maybe I would be able to take it again after all this time.
Well, that theory didn't hold up. I was pretty tired of the joke in the first place and that feeling settled right into place at the start of the season. It doesn't help that I had seen several other overpowered protags in the months between. It also was a bit of a problem that from the moment the season started, there were characters that I straight up did not remember from the last season and it hadn't even been a full year since I watched it.
That's the issue with Bofuri to me. It's not an entirely awful show, but it's just so middle of the road and unremarkable that I fail to retain much of anything from the experience. There might be one or two jokes here or there that I enjoy, but most of it has left my mind entirely within a day or two of watching.

BOFURI Season 2 doesn't do anything to differentiate it from Season 1. And because of that, it's a boring watch. Maple being overpowered isn't an entertaining enough gimmick for more than 1 season.
