The Great Day of the LORD (Zephaniah 1:7–18; 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11; 2 Peter 3:8–13)
1 “For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble; the day is coming when I will set them ablaze,” says the LORD of Hosts. “Not a root or branch will be left to them.”
2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall. 3 Then you will trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.
4 “Remember the law of My servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances I commanded him for all Israel at Horeb.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD. 6 And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.” — Malachi 4 | Berean Standard Bible (BSB) The Holy Bible, Berean Standard Bible is produced in cooperation with Bible Hub, Discovery Bible, OpenBible.com, and the Berean Bible Translation Committee. While you haven't quite met Malachi, you've certainly heard about him. He is the recluse that owns the gem shop across from Kimber's bakery. No one knows his story yet. Then again, perhaps the MC had a run in with him before....
Art done by the amazing @mooreux . Malachi is her OG creation.

talked about this before on my twitter but i’m genuinely surprised i haven’t been able to find any academic works analysing the way kurt vonnegut writes characters of color. feels very progressive for the time in plenty of aspects (especially noticeable in works like sirens of titan and galapagos, and i know some of his books that i haven’t read yet are more blatantly focused on it) like i’ve never seen leftist books of the modern day make their scapegoat billionaire characters anything more than cartoonishly evil white old men and the way malachi constant subverts that is such an interesting way to comment on the way social class operates in capitalist systems. but then the guys also very into the trope of cannibal jungle tribes unfortunately. reminding me his books were majorly written in the 70s and shit

The Lord's Love for Israel (Genesis 25:19-28; Romans 9:6-18)
1 A revelation, Yahweh’s word to Israel by Malachi.
2 “I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say, “How have you loved us?” “Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh, “Yet I loved Jacob; 3 but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.” 4 Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” Yahweh of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.” 5 Your eyes will see, and you will say, “Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!”
The Polluted Offerings
6 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’ 7 You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is contemptible.’ 8 When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says Yahweh of Armies. 9 “Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says Yahweh of Armies. 10 “Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand. 11 For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations,” says Yahweh of Armies. 12 “But you profane it when you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’ 13 You say also, ‘Behold, what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh. 14 “But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord a defective thing; for I am a great King,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.” — Malachi 1 | World English Bible (WEB) The World English Bible is in the public domain Cross References: Genesis 25:23; Exodus 20:12; Leviticus 3:11; Leviticus 6:4; Leviticus 18:21; Leviticus 21:6; Leviticus 22:18; Leviticus 22:20; Leviticus 22:22; 2 Samuel 24:24; Psalm 35:27; Isaiah 1:11; Isaiah 1:13; Isaiah 9:9-10; Isaiah 13:1; Isaiah 34:5; Isaiah 34:10; Jeremiah 23:33; Jeremiah 27:18; Jeremiah 48:8; Ezekiel 39:9; Ezekiel 41:22; Joel 2:12; Matthew 8:11; Luke 6:46; John 4:21; John 15:12; Acts 5:1; Romans 9:13
