DCI Carl Morck [Matthew GoodE] is a brilliant cop but terrible colleague. His razor-sharp sarcasm has made him no friends in Edinburgh police. After a shooting leaves a young pc dead, and his partner paralysed, he finds himself exiled to the basement & sole member of Department Q; a newly formed cold case unit. The department is a PR stunt, there to distract the public from the failures of an under-resourced, failing police force that is glad to see the back of him. But more by accident than design, Carl starts to build a gang of waifs & strays who have everything to prove. So, when the stone-cold trail of a prominent civil servant who disappeared several years ago starts to heat up, Carl is back doing what he does best - rattling cages and refusing to take no for an answer. Dept. Q is a series created and written and directed by American writer / filmmaker Scott Frank, screenwriter of Out of Sight, Minority Report, The Interpreter, The Lookout, Marley & Me, The Wolverine, Logan; and creator of "The Queen's Gambit" & "Monsieur Spade" series. Written by Stephen Greenhorn, Colette Kane, & Chandni Lakhani. Adapted from the novels written by Jussi Adler-Olsen. With episodes directed by Scott Frank. Made by Flitcraft and Left Bank Pictures. Exec produced by Rob Bullock, Scott Frank, & Andy Harries. Netflix debuts Frank's Dept. Q streaming on Netflix starting May 29th, 2025.*

The Dept. Q pilot is moody, gripping, and on its way to be a very faithful adaptation of The Keeper of Lost Causes with a Scottish twist that somehow just works. Goode broods, Manvelov smolders, and I'm officially hooked. #DeptQ #Netflix #CrimeDrama #BookToScreen #ThrillerTV #MatthewGoode #AlexejManvelov #JussiAdlerOlsen

I need you all to stop what you’re doing and go watch The Power RIGHT FREAKING NOW. It’s on Amazon Prime and I don’t care if you have to beg, borrow, or steal someone’s password, DO IT.
It’s based on Naomi Alderman’s book and even though it’s been a while since I read it, it seems pretty close to the source material and if it strays from it, it does it in ways that only add to the story.
The premise: young girls start to develop a new organ that allows them to shoot electricity out of their hands. Naturally, the government wants to regulate this, as they do anything having to do with women. The show follows several different characters around the world and does an excellent job of portraying the different cultures and incorporating different languages naturally into the dialogue.
Highlights:
- they show a fucking live birth oh my god it’s such a powerful fucking moment I’m getting goosebumps even typing about it
- victims of sex trafficking blowing a dudes dick off with electricity
- a girl making a man shit himself in a pool when she zaps him
- a gang of rebel women electrocuting a man after he calls them “daft cows”
- a woman beating a man to death for kicking her dog
- the Riyadh protest. The strength and the power, contrasted with the moment where the mother appeals to her soldier son, and the softness and love that follows
- Moana getting high with her mom, the mayor of Seattle
- a true array of diverse women and girls. Body types, races, upbringings, cultures…..there are just SO MANY WOMEN to admire and appreciate the diversity
- two lesbians using their electricity to get each other off, I wanted to cry, it was so sweet and tender and the one girl is fat, like ACTUALLY fat, not just “curvy but with more” and she got to be sexy and not have it be a punchline
- John Leguizamo playing a dad is just…..so good. I’ve loved him since he was a drag queen in To Wong Foo, and I’m so glad he’s aged so nicely along with my tastes
- the placenta power move, god I love General Zoia
The storyline is excellent, the character development is SO GOOD, the music……I’ve actually started keeping a list in my phone of all the music to make the ultimate feminist playlist, it’s so fucking good.
Amazon did a SHIT JOB promoting this. I LOVED the book and would have been ALL OVER this show a year ago when it came out if I’d known about it. I don’t know if it’s been renewed, but PLEASE PLEASE go and watch it. I really hope it gets some attention because I desperately want it to be renewed, I know what happens because I read the book, but I want to see how they portray it on screen!! Eve just got her strongest warrior and I want to see them kick ass together!!
GO WATCH THE POWER NOW!!!

‘The Boys From Brazil’: Jeremy Strong To Play Nazi Hunter In Series From ‘The Crown’s Peter Morgan
By Christopher Marc, The Playlist
February 12, 2025
Jeremy Strong is heading into the final stretch of the Oscars season with the Best Supporting Actor nominee poised to potentially nab a statue for his compelling performance as Roy Cohn in the Donald Trump biopic, “The Apprentice.” While Strong has ended his award-winning HBO series “Succession,” he’s looking to make a significant return to the small screen with a series adaptation of the 1976 Ira Levin novel “The Boys From Brazil.” Netflix, according to Deadline, has cast Strong in the fictionalized telling of the Nazi Party, now defeated across Europe, trying to rebuild in the South American country of Brazil. The story explores Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele attempting to launch The Fourth Reich, and then Nazi hunters are made aware of their nefarious plan. Strong is set to play Ezra Lieberman in the show, which hails from Peter Morgan (“The Crown”). The character is a Nazi hunter that is tipped off about their resurrection and attempts to regroup, which would threaten the entire world if left to their own devices. The original logline for the 1976 novel as posted by Amazon: “Alive and hiding in South America, the fiendish Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele gathers a group of former colleagues for a horrifying project―the creation of the Fourth Reich. Barry Kohler, a young investigative journalist, gets wind of the project and informs famed Nazi hunter Ezra Lieberman, but before he can relay the evidence, Kohler is killed. Thus, Ira Levin opens one of his career’s strangest and most masterful novels. Why has Mengele marked a number of harmless aging men for murder? What is the hidden link that binds them? What interest can they possibly hold for their killers: six former SS men dispatched from South America by the most wanted Nazi still alive, the notorious “Angel of Death “? One man alone must answer these questions and stop the killings―Lieberman, himself aging and thought by some to be losing his grip on reality.” While the feature film adaptation from 1978 starring the late Gregory Peck (who played the fictionalized version of Dr. Josef Mengele) took place in the 1970s, the lingering influence of modern Nazis and fascists operating today is sadly topical as hell, with democratically elected politicians, musicians, tech-bros, and a sitting President championing the dark side of humanity that stood for the percussion, genocide, and amplifying the normalization of race/religion-based bigotry. We can’t wait to see who they end up casting alongside Strong because this series will have plenty of seasoned and new actors jumping on “The Boys From Brazil” to work with Morgan and Strong.
