As Barbie becomes a billionaire it's heartbreaking to realize that the writers who wrote the film and the actors who participated in it are unable to fully celebrate its success because they are on strike picketing for better working conditions, increased residuals and stronger protections against AI.

You gotta admit that Netflix’s CEO throwing shade at movie theaters during the re-release of Revenge of the Sith (earning millions even though you can watch this movie from 20 years ago in the comfort of your own home) and Sinners debut (breaking box office records) is pretty freaking hilarious.

Absolutely incredible
Imagine making a movie with a budget of $25 million and making $130 million internationally during the first weekend while your movie is also on streaming!
So proud of Blumhouse and everyone who worked on this movie, I’m wholeheartedly looking forward to the sequels!

I googled what each movie made opening weekend.
So if you listen to some they will say $47 million is a huge failer yet $23 million is a great success.
Goalpost moving and biases much?

In 1956, movie theaters still had splendidly outfitted ushers to guide moviegoers to their seats. Behind this one is a poster for Oklahoma!.

Is anyone else confused by how the box office works for movies and what makes a movie a “flop” because I’m very confused. I adore Fall Guy and really want to see it succeed and it sounds like it’s doing well as it’s been #1 box office spot for two weeks running yet because it didn’t surpass the cost it took to produce the movie on its first weekend it’s a “flop”? Why does everything need to be some mega blockbuster hit to be considered a success? The movie has great reviews, anytime I see anyone talk about it it’s extremely positive, and it’s an incredibly entertaining and uplifting movie. I’m tired. Anyways, rant over. Go see Fall Guy it’s a great movie you won’t regret it!

I was prepping my next box office post and you know what I found??
Captain America Brave New World was given way fewer theatres than a bunch of other 2025 films, despite releasing in cinemas in February, with far less blockbuster competition. WTF
Tumblr media
Leave out Moana 2 and Venom 3 since they release in 2024, but still.
Lilo & Stitch, Thunderbolts, Mission Impossible, Minecraft, and SNOW freaking WHITE were all given 100-300 more theatres than Brave New World.
Thunderbolts was given 225 more theatre screens than Brave New World and it STILL couldn't beat it's opening weekend!

With REVENGE OF THE SITH becoming one of the most successful re-releases ever, the redemption tour for the STAR WARS prequels is complete. These movies are no longer a punchline. They're generational classics.

Only 5 films ( Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong, Kung Fu Panda 4, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Ghostbusters) have earned over $100M in the domestic box office so far in 2024.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is quite possibly the best movie released in the last 5 years. The story is amazing, the effects stunning, the acting is perfection, and the stunts? This is a Tom Cruise movie, of course the stunts will be fantastic. Hanging on the bottom of an airborn plane at the age of 62 whilst said plane is also doing 360° barrel rolls is something only Cruise would choose to do without CGI. Gabriel is aura farming out of his mind, Benji is as usual one of the best characters in the franchise, the fight scenes, sacrifices, callbacks to earlier movies and plot twists will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. This is absolutely peak cinema. 55/10 movie.

We need a Tom Cruise/Keanu Reeves movie, 5 billion dollars at the box office guaranteed.
