Boxing Day: Wrexham VS Salford City
Hello and I hoped that everyone had a good Christmas, I know I had because I was there. Today, I was reviewing Wrexham’s Boxing Day’s encounter with Salford City. It has been ages since I wrote a game review, due to the fact that I am back at college and there is a lot of assignments to do. However, as it’s Christmas I have decided to have a few days off assignments.
Wrexham is playing at home against Salford. I think we can win despite everyone knows Salford is rich due to Class ‘97 Manchester United, therefore, they can beat any team on their day. However, do you know what? It’s not about money, it is all about 90 minute of football.
We come into the game with confidence after progressing in the FA Trophy (3 - 0) and drawing the league game (0 - 0) after it. I know we got thrashed against Newport 4 - 0 but we were a man down after 12 minutes and we are a league below them. Before the Salford’s game, we are 3rd in the table with a win, we will be second and go above them by a point.
Salford is on a good form, winning their last 2 games out of 3. They were home against Dagenham & Redbridge and won 2 - 1 in their last game. Before that game, they also progressed in the FA Trophy after beating Gateshead 3 - 1 at home. Finally, the game which started 3-game run, they lost to Chesterfield 2 - 0 away. Adam Rooney is their top scorer with 17 goals to his name so far in this season.
Now, I will talk about the game.
We lined up like this:
18 Rob Lainton
3 James Jennings
5 Shaun Pearson
16 Brad Walker
13 Mark Carrington
30 Jake Lawlor
14 Paul Rutherford
20 Akil Wright
7 Luke Summerfield
23 Stuart Beavon
32 Bobby Grant
On our bench:
1 Christian Dibble
4 Manny Smith
29 Ben Tollitt
17 Nicky Deverdics
10 Chris Holroyd
Salford City lined up like this:
1 Chris Neal
2 Scott Wiseman
6 Carl Piergianni
3 Ibou Touray
23 Nathan Pond
18 Danny Whitehead
4 Gus Mafuta
11 Tom Walker
7 Matt Green
9 Adam Rooney
10 Danny Lloyd-McGoldrick
On their bench:
21 Devante Rodney
30 Rory Gaffney
12 Max Crocombe
15 Liam Nolan
5 Liam Hogan
I was up on the platform for today’s game. This game was good for the community from having a good crowd and a special bucket collection for Wheelchair Accessible Travel.
We only needed 3 minutes to score the opening goal of the match when Shaun Pearson’s head met the ball from a Luke Summerfield’s corner. Shaun had good power with the header beating Christopher Neal. We had chances to score the second 3 minutes later. However, the visitors managed to block Summerfield’s left-footed shot. Bobby Grant got it back but his shot was just wide.
Salford then was on the attack when we lost the ball. When Matt Green half-volleyed the ball but it went wide. In ninth minutes, Daniel Lloyd tried to get a goal back but Jack Lawlor managed to block the attempt and the ball went wide. 2 minutes later, we got the ball back and went on the hunt for the second goal when Brad Walker missed calculate his shot and it found Neal. Then James Jenning had a throw-in and threw the ball to Paul Rutherford. He was clear through and had a half-volley but Neal managed to save it.
Wrex the Dragon came up to the platform, I bet he was sent to the stands because he was always near our attacking goal during the first half of home games. I know it’s a bad joke. Anyway, we finally got our second of the match when Akil Wright lost the Salford man who was marking him, he headed the ball in after Summerfield whipped it in. I could see the shadow of Wrex celebrating the goal.
31 minutes on the clock, Neal lost the ball when he was pressed by Rutherford. The ball found the feet of Mark Carrington, he took the shot from a long distance but missed the goal. Two minutes later, Stuart Beavon passed it to Rutherford, he crossed it in for Grant. However, Grant’s shot was blocked by Ibou Touray.
Beavon was a nightmare for Salford’s defenders today, he managed to let Wright in front of the box in the 43rd minute. However, Wright’s shot went wide. In stoppage time, we got a free kick. The ball got to Walker in the end, when he buried it in the bottom corner of the goal from 25 yards out.
Half-time: Wrexham 3 - 0 Salford City
Salford made a half-time substitution putting on Nathan Pond for Liam Hogan. They looked fresher and on 50 minutes, Gus Mafuta had a shot from 18 yards out but it went wide. We escaped the pressure and went on the attack, it was Grant who had a shot first but the ball found Neal. Then Beavon had a shot but it went wide.
Graham Barrow sent Ben Tollitt on for his debut in replace of Beavon in the 65th minute. In the next minute, we had a freekick which was taken by Grant but it went over and into a very busy Glyndwr University stand. Three minutes later, Summerfield tried a shot from a tight area but it was blocked.
Tollitt and Rutherford played an one-two run in the 82nd minute. Tollitt ended it by having a shot at the goal but it was blocked, he managed to get the ball and try it again. However, it was blocked. He got his reward for all of his missed shots in the 86th minute, when he got his debut goal and the ball went in the top corner of the goal. At this point of the game, some of Salford’s fans decided to head back to coaches and trains. As the saying goes, “money can’t buy you happiness” and today was a waking nightmare for Salford. Don’t worry Salford, there always next week when we meet again.
The game wasn’t over at 4 - 0, in the 93rd minute we got our fifth goal, when Chris Holroyd got through the visitors’ defence and buried the ball in the back of the net. Rob Lainton was finishing the game with a clean sheet, but Danny Whitehead’s long-shot effort was deflected in the box, missing Lainton and spun into the goal.
Full-time: Wrexham 5 - 1 Salford
The match sponsor’s match of the match was Stuart Beavon. It was a good day all round for Wrexham, when Leyton Orient losing their dinner time game at Dagenham & Redbridge 2 - 1 and we made £1,450 for Wheelchair Accessible Travel. That’s all from me for 2018, thank you for reading my content this year.

Contemporaneamente, il Boxing Day in molti paesi è associato all'inizio dei saldi.

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. ‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:26-38‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Happy Tuesday after Christmas Day!  According to Wikipedia, today is Boxing Day, which is a secular holiday in Europe where the banks are closed.  It is also known as  St. Stephens’s Day on the liturgical calendar, which is the second day of Christmastide (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day).
I hope your Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations were wonderful.  We celebrated Christmas Eve by riding through town and enjoying the Christmas lights.  Then, we attended the midnight Christmas Eve service at our church.  The service began at 10 pm with Christmas carols, and handbells.  The church service followed.  We have many gifted singers and musicians in our church.  The music brought tears to my eyes.

Then, the sermon touched my heart.  It was about how God uses ordinary people, like us, to do extraordinary things.  Mary was a young girl.  She didn’t live in a palace, but God chose her to bring His son into the world.  I have often thought of how hard it must have been emotionally, and the how others must have mocked and scorned her.  Joseph didn’t have an easy path either.  His fiancé was expecting and the baby wasn’t his.  Yet, he cared for her and Jesus by stepping up to the call.  I also, thought of the young boy, David, who in faith fought and killed Goliath.  Jeremiah was probably under the age of 25 when he answered God’s call.  He said “behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child” (Jeremiah 1:6).  Yet, God gave Jeremiah the tools he needed.  So, when God calls us, we also need to step up.  If God only used people who didn’t have struggle in their life, why would anyone else have faith?  We would probably believe we could never measure up.  The world might be about keeping up with Joneses, but God is different.  Remember, on Palm Sunday people were expecting a worldy King riding in on a white stallion, but Jesus rode in on a donkey.
The service ended at midnight. As is the tradition in our church, candles were passed out to everyone attending the service.  After communion, the candles wer lit from the aisle.  Each person lit the candle of the person beside them.  The Church lights were turned out.  Kneeling in candlelight, everyone sang Silent Night.  While the service is past my bedtime and I know what to expect, every year I am glad I attended.  Attending the service with my husband was my favorite Christmas gift.
Christmas morning, after very little sleep, my husband treated our family to Christmas brunch.  His parents, our children and grandson were with us.  It’s always exciting watching the excitement of Christmas through the eyes of a child.

I look forward to reading about your Christmas celebrations.  If you are working today, or returning gifts, be patient and kind.  Be the person who light up the room with God’s love.  God bless you!

Uganda: Police Block Bobi Wine’s Concert, Seal One Love Beach
Tumblr media
A Bobi Wine Boxing Day concert that was supposed to take place at the One Love Beach in Busabala has been stopped and the area sealed by the Ugandan Police. Emilian Kayima, police spokesperson had earlier announced the ban. “The situation at One Love Beach is tense. It has been turned into a war zone. As if the raid last night wasn't enough, this morning they blocked the roads leading to the Beach and announced that our #Boxing_Day show is off,” Bobi posted on Facebook. It should be noted that the artiste who also doubles as a Ugandan legislator, has been a great critic of the government of Yuweri Museveni since he entered parliament in 2017. Read Also: Ugandan Star Eddy Kenzo On New Project With Awilo Longomba According to a police commander, Rashid Agero, he has been ordered by his superiors to stop the concert because the organizers are yet to seek police clearance. On the contrary, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) in a Facebook post said the concert had been duly cleared by the Gbaba beach police. “Earlier today, a Christmas music show that had been cleared by the police at Ggaba beach was immediately disrupted and blocked by soldiers and police the moment they learnt that I was one of the artistes going to perform”, said Bobi. The artiste’s One Love Beach that was to host the concert was surrounded by military and guests have been sent away. In the post, he made it known that the military “have ordered the stage and sound engineers to bring down the stage and pull down all materials we had put in place for the show.” Bobi also claimed some of his employees and those who were preparing to sell merchandise around the One Love Beach show ground have been arrested. This is coming after the legislator petitioned parliament last week over the continued ban on his concerts by the government. “They are doing this despite Parliament's resolution last week declaring that blocking my shows is unconstitutional, has no basis in law, and should be stopped forthwith”, he wrote. On December 15, a show that was to take place at Jinja was again disrupted by police even after the Ugandan star said earlier that day on social media that it had been cleared by the police. However, later that day, police called to inform event organizers that all other artistes have been cleared except Bobi Wine. The police invaded the City Hotel in Jinja town where the event was to take place and arrested Bobi’s team members while he updated the public on his Facebook Page in hiding. Recommended: Bobi Wine - A Name That Inspires Change In Uganda “So police has raided City Hotel in Jinja town where we were resting ahead of the show tonight. They arrested many of our team members. As we speak, the police is surrounding the entire neighborhood looking for me everywhere!” “The police has ordered my team out of Jinja town on gun-point, and escorted them up to Lugazi. They have beaten some of them, dragged them onto police pick-up cars and driven them to unknown destinations for no offence whatsoever,“ he wrote. “Meanwhile, I am still in Jinja town. The police are looking for me everywhere. They have even blocked some roads in search for me,” he continued. Known by his stage name Bobi Wine, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is an entrepreneur, businessman, musician, actor, philanthropist and a politician. Since July 11, 2017, he has been serving as the member of parliament for the Kyaddondo East constituency in Wakiso District. On August 14, 2018, his supporters allegedly obstructed and attacked the president’s convoy in Arua. He was later arrested on August 15 for incitement of violence and unlawful possession of firearms. On the day of his release, the government banned his supporters from gathering. By Penn Tencha with contributions from Lobga Derick Sullivan Read the full article
