              Even with the world as broken as it is it still seems their worst enemy are the living - those within the shit show of an apocalypse that constantly make life harder for the group. As if they hadn’t been through enough struggle but just when Rick believed he and his family had finally found a place to rest their heads for good in walked another Governor type figure - though this one was far more abrasive than the last.

So Rick kneels, because he doesn’t have a choice. It’s all he can do not to rush to his feet and take out the ‘king pin’ that struts his stuff before him, insinuating that punishment is necessary - because he didn’t just bend over and take it - because Rick Grimes won’t let his people be siphoned like a hog for Negan’s piglets, not as long as he has some fight left in him. “You can do whatever you want to me. But it won’t change anything.” The Sheriff offers, southern drawl slipping from his lips like honey over gravel. “Kill me, it’s not gonna make a difference. My people will still come for you - so you wanna start a war? Go right ahead, because we’re done doin your bitch work.”

           Rick Grimes isn’t ready to die, but if that’s what it takes to show the group they’re stronger together, banding against this asshole and his many minions - then that’s what has to be done. He’ll go down as a martyr, a symbol that remains intact long after Negan is dead and gone, even if his minions continue with their ridiculous ritual of spouting that ‘they are Negan.’
