For instance, if a road design changes, the CAD model can automatically update related documents—material takeoffs, cost estimates, and construction schedules, saving hours of manual recalculation. That’s the kind of smart, connected workflow that’s becoming standard in infrastructure projects worldwide.
Going Beyond the Screen: From CAD to the Real World
Once designs are finalized, CAD doesn’t get filed away—it becomes a blueprint for action. Contractors use it to guide machinery, surveyors use it to stake out alignments, and city officials use it to review and approve plans.
Even during construction, CAD models remain crucial. Engineers refer to them to troubleshoot problems, coordinate deliveries, and track progress. Some advanced systems even link CAD models to GPS and machine control, letting bulldozers and graders follow digital designs with pinpoint accuracy.

Historical Bridge Awareness Month was created to draw our awareness to preservation and appreciation of historical bridges. You can check online resources such as an interactive state map of bridges to find any historical bridges in your state.
In honor of Historical Bridge Awareness Month, we wanted to share historical photographs of the Clifton Suspension Bridge in England from our Special Collections. Completed in 1864, the Clifton Suspension Bridge links Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset in England. Construction began on June 20, 1831, and the bridge design was created by William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw, based on an earlier design submitted by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The total length of the bridge is 1,352 ft (412m,) and the height is 331 ft (101m) above high water level. Brunel died in 1859 without seeing the completion of the bridge.
The bridge is known for the first modern bungee jumps, which were performed by the members of the University of Oxford Dangerous Sports Club in 1979. (information taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifton_Suspension_Bridge)

It actually keeps me calm these days. 😌 #funfact 📌Did you know The Junction Bridge rests on top of ”the Little Rock” and was used as territorial passing for American Indians & settlers? They had been near thousands of years before Europeans due to available archeological evidence right here in this very city. Also was used by early river traffic as a landmark and became a famous river crossing of that era in the 1880s.
