Roughly twenty years ago or more (like 2005 and earlier), practically another lifetime for me, I did 3D-modeling and then renders of my models in a now fully ancient software application called 'Bryce.' It was lots of fun, though I certainly wasn't going to quit my day job.
This picture is called 'Azalang Palace.' It's supposed to be an extra-dimensional palace in the mythical city of Azalamb.

I'll be posting more of these, so you can see how far digital art has come.
Made this for the Neopets beauty contest last week! And then it got removed, due to 3D renders not being allowed...?! (I'm still impressed at myself for getting it >75kb, as per the extremely ’90s ruleset.)
i was suddenly struck with a bout of inspiration. Make A Cell Stage Render In Bryce 4. so i did
this was a really fun challenge i had a ton of fun making this
fun fact the cells arent recreations of anything in specific, i was making them as i would be in the cell editor except i also had to construct the parts at the same time. i might recreate them in spore itself at some point (itd be really easy too)
and also the water caustics use a modified texture from a spore prototype (waterboy)
This is my favorite 'old' render that I did. I did all of the modeling in the scene in 3DS Max. It was rendered in Bryce.
It's meant to depict the extra-planar and extra-dimensional Titan City of Azalamb. It's where some of the Titans fled when great destruction fell upon the World of Asdar in its antediluvian past. Yeah, my love of domed cities reaches way back!
Lunagance is my new best friend. Got to build a cool new head and some thrusters and stick them on top of the mecha legs I had already made. Here are a few closeups from Blender.
