Buddha's Dispensation (Skt.Buddha-sasana)  

The early accounts state that Rahula (Ref) died before the Buddha did, according to some later tradition, however, has it that Rahula was one of the four enlightened disciples whom Gautama Buddha asked to prolong their lives to stay in the world until the next Buddha Maitreya (his future figure) has risen, to protect his dispensation.

In his first sermon, 'The Turning of the Wheel of Dhamma', the Buddha explains that as a result of what he had discovered from his years long spiritual quest as a sramana, it had become incumbent upon him to explain this discovery to humanity out of compassion for their welfare and happiness.

The essence of this teaching was the four noble truths (Skt. catvari aryasatyani) , which set the basic direction of Buddhism. Humanity was in a general state of suffering and alienation yet were unaware that there was a Way out of this condition. In order to escape this condition of suffering it was necessary to undertake a course of self-discipline (Skt. Vinaya) that involved adopting a strict code of moral conduct (Skt. sila) and commitment to spiritual development.

The Buddha's Dispensation (Pali: Buddha-sasana) is the teaching - and dissemination of that teaching - of the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. In Theravada Buddhism that teaching is considered to reside within the Pali Canon and those existing, practical traditions that remain faithful to that dispensation.

Note that ‘sasana’ is a term used by Buddhists and Shivaists to refer to religion or non-religion. It has various translations, including Buddha Sasana (of which there are several), which means teaching, practice, doctrine, 'Buddha's teaching'. The term is considered more accurate than the word 'religion' because in Buddhism, God is not believed in. It implies an adaptable philosophy and practice, rather than an all-knowing, changeless invocation of God.

ブッダの教え (梵･巴: ブッダサーサナ)

ブッダの教え (梵･巴: ブッダ･サーサナ)とは、歴史上のブッダ、シッダールタ・ゴータマの教え、およびその教えの普及のことを指す。上座部仏教では、その教えはパーリ仏典と、その分派に忠実な既存の実践的な伝統の中に存在すると考えられている。

What "Bodhisattva" even mean? Are they like a messager or middle man?

They are an enlightened being who foregoes nirvana in order to save countless people from the suffering that keeps man trapped in samsara.

This is the official entry in the Princeton Dictionary of Buddhism (2014):

Bodhisattva (P. bodhisatta; T. byang chub sems dpa’; C. pusa; J. bosatsu; K. posal 菩薩). In Sanskrit, lit. “enlightenment being.” The etymology is uncertain, but the term is typically glossed to mean a “being (SATTVA) intent on achieving enlightenment (BODHI),” viz., a being who has resolved to become a buddha. In the MAINSTREAM BUDDHIST SCHOOLS, the Buddha refers to himself in his many past lifetimes prior to his enlightenment as a bodhisattva; the word is thus generally reserved for the historical Buddha prior to his own enlightenment. In the MAHĀYĀNA traditions, by contrast, a bodhisattva can designate any being who resolves to generate BODHICITTA and follow the vehicle of the bodhisattvas (BODHISATTVAYĀNA) toward the achievement of buddhahood. The Mahāyāna denotation of the term first appears in the AS˙ T˙ ASĀHASRIKĀPRAJÑĀPĀRAMITĀ, considered one of the earliest Mahāyāna sūtras, suggesting that it was already in use in this sense by at least the first century BCE. Schools differ on the precise length and constituent stages of the bodhisattva path (MĀRGA), but generally agree that it encompasses a huge number of lifetimes—according to many presentations, three incalculable eons of time (ASAM˙ KHYEYAKALPA)—during which the bodhisattva develops specific virtues known as perfections (PĀRAMITĀ) and proceeds through a series of stages (BHŪMI). Although all traditions agree that the bodhisattva is motivated by “great compassion” (MAHĀKARUN˙ Ā) to achieve buddhahood as quickly as possible, Western literature often describes the bodhisattva as someone who postpones his enlightenment in order to save all beings from suffering. This description is primarily relevant to the mainstream schools, where an adherent is said to recognize his ability to achieve the enlightenment of an ARHAT more quickly by following the teachings of a buddha, but chooses instead to become a bodhisattva; by choosing this longer course, he perfects himself over many lifetimes in order to achieve the superior enlightenment of a buddha at a point in the far-distant future when the teachings of the preceding buddha have completely disappeared. In the Mahāyāna, the nirvān˙ a of the arhat is disparaged and is regarded as far inferior to buddhahood. Thus, the bodhisattva postpones nothing, instead striving to achieve buddhahood as quickly as possible. In both the mainstream and Mahāyana traditions, the bodhisattva, spending his penultimate lifetime in the TUS˙ ITA heaven, takes his final rebirth in order to become a buddha and restore the dharma to the world. MAITREYA is the bodhisattva who will succeed the dispensation (ŚĀSANA) of the current buddha, GAUTAMA or ŚĀKYAMUNI; he is said to be waiting in the tus˙ ita heaven, until the conditions are right for him to take his final rebirth and become the next buddha in the lineage. In the Mahāyāna tradition, many bodhisattvas are described as having powers that rival or even surpass those of the buddhas themselves, and come to symbolize specific spiritual qualities, such as AVALOKITEŚVARA (the bodhisattva of compassion), MAÑJUŚRĪ (the bodhisattva of wisdom), VAJRAPĀN˙ I (the bodhisattva of power), and SAMANTABHADRA (the bodhisattva of extensive practice). In Western literature, these figures are sometimes referred to as “celestial bodhisattvas.” In Korea, the term posal also designates laywomen residents of monasteries, who assist with the menial chores of cooking, preserving food, doing laundry, etc. These posal are often widows or divorcées, who work for the monastery in exchange for room and board for themselves and their children. The posal will often serve the monastery permanently and end up retiring there as well (Buswell & Lopez, 2014, p. 134).

Teaching of all the Buddhas

The word 'Buddha' means the "Awakened One" or the

"Enlightened One," but in Buddhist teachings it generally refers to Lord Gautama Buddha who lived in India during the 6th and 5th centuries BC. Gautama Buddha is described as a Samma Sambuddha, one of three types of Buddhas according to Buddhism, the other two types being Pacceka or Private Buddha and Savaka or Disciple Buddha. Sammä Sambuddha means the 'Perfectly Enlightened One', sammã = perfectly; sam = by himself

without a teacher; buddha = Enlightened or Awakened

One, by realisation of the four Noble Truths. Following one's own full enlightenment, a Sammä Sambuddha, through compassion for other beings, is able to teach and guide others to attain enlightenment and escape from the cycle of birth and death (samsãra). Gautama Buddha was not in fact the first Sammã Sambuddha to appear in the world, as according to Buddhist literature, an innumerable number of Buddhas may have appeared in the past. In some schools of Buddhism, at least twenty eight Buddhas have been named including Gautama Buddha. It is also believed that another Buddha by the name of Maithriya will come into being at some point in the future.

Teaching of the Buddha encompasses all aspects of the Buddha's teaching that was delivered by Gautama Buddha during His ministry of 45 years. Initially, all of the Buddha's teachings were categorised into nine parts or angas based upon their form and style known as the nine-fold dispensation of the Buddha (navanga buddha sasana or navanga satthusasana). This was before the Pali Canon (tipitaka) came into existence. The nine-fold dispensation of the Buddha consisted of: Discourses (sutta) in prose, mixed prose and verse (geyya), elaboration of brief teachings (veyyakarana), verses (gatha), inspired utterances (udana) mostly in verse, sayings of the Buddha (itivuttaka) in mixed prose and verse, birth stories (jataka) of the Buddha's previous lives as a bodhisatta, extraordinary things or miracles (abbhutadhamma) and questions and answers (vedalla).

A Sun Wukong and Macaque analysis

A different interpretation of Macaque / Liu-er Mihou’s words regarding his and Sun Wukong’s history in Lego Monkie Kid. I base this on the theory that Macaque is a clone of Sun Wukong’s that became independent and reflects the worst parts of his mind.

- As seen with Qi Xiaotian’s clones, the feelings they channel are distorted to the extreme. They channel only those feelings and traits, without the balance of the larger self.

Sun Wukong and Macaque used to be ‘friends’ in the sense that Macaque encompassed his self-interest. When that selfish part of him manifested as a clone, this one used to be extremely self-absorbed. That carried over when Macaque became an independent identity and has persisted into the show’s present time.

Having spent centuries as the part of another person’s mind, Macaque couldn’t quite separate his identity from Sun Wukong’s. He remembers that they used to be ‘friends’ and was upset that Sun Wukong didn’t agree with him anymore.

The actual reality - calling back to JTTW - was that Macaque aimed to kill Sun Wukong and and steal his identity and fame, killed part of his family on Flower Fruit Mountain because the monkie yaoguai were dispensable to him, and attacked the pilgrims because they were in the way of his goal.

LMK’s version of Macaque does a lot similar things. Sun Wukong understandably opposes him in both instances, both past and present.

- ‘The Hero abandoned the Warrior.’ Imagine working hard for years to become a better person. Sun Wukong faced difficulties, backlash, unfair consequences, setsbacks, and feelings of failure. He wasn’t the warlord, the warrior he used to be. Not anymore at least even though those parts of him persisted.

Of course, he still craved validation and power. They just were losing their spot among his priorities. (The biggest priority being his family on Flowerfruit Mountain, his friends, and other family.) He was working to become better than his more selfish, violent impulses. He was changing, while not confronting the darker feelings that built up from these changes. 

And part of him - the desire for validation and power and fame and easy success and doing what he wanted, the cunning warlord, the Warrior - detested the hardship.

Felt that the ‘hero’ was undoing everything they’d worked before Buddha dropped the mountain on Sun Wukong. Felt that he deserved more.

- ‘Sun Wukong killed Macaque.’ Which Sun Wukong also did in the original Journey To The West, with understandable reasons.

- There’s also to consider that he might have had an overwhelming identity crisis. He was faced with a person that was hurting his loved ones, a person that carried his face while he did so. Who could pretend to be Sun Wukong.

All of that because Macaque was literally him. A clone of him gone rogue, channelling all of Sun Wukong’s worst parts.

Most of the plethora of spiritual practices and disciplines available are designed to ‘eventually’ bring one to what many refer to as Self Realization … what others call Christ or Cosmic Consciousness and still others define as Buddha Awakening.

The primary error associated with these often long and arduous procedures is the subtle or even overt reference to a ‘someone’ who goes from un-awareness ‘to’ awareness. This ‘someone’ is accepted [usually] as a personal identity called ‘me’ and this ‘me’ therefore is hopefully getting better and more qualified to receive some kind of dispensation that confers an enlightened state of awareness upon ‘it’. This is a complete fiction despite the multitudes who have followed this so-called ‘path’ HOME.

HOME is ‘always NOW and never in some kind of future [that does NOT exists]. ME [the separated body-mind-identity] does NOT exist … only the ONE SELF [by any name] is Real.

The removal of this ‘me’ illusion ‘is’ all that is required for HOME-Freedom-Awareness-Truth, etc. to be ‘REVEALED’ – simple! Removing ‘me’ however first requires the acknowledgment that it ‘is’ a fiction … and then, a NO MATTER WHAT choice to remove it. This is the difficult part since this means the death of a personal identity. When this choice is made Freedom ‘is’ very near and the ways and means WILL just show up spontaneously and effortlessly.

Cannabis, education top priorities for Md.’s Legislative Black Caucus

Establishing a criminal justice policy that prevents police officers from stopping black drivers and searching vehicles just because they smell cannabis, thc Big Chief Carts , and recruiting more people of African Americans to teach in public schools are two of twelve priorities the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland served out on Wednesday.

Del. Jheanelle Wilkins (D-Montgomery) said that caucus members lead on a range of issues and in “key roles to keep the House and the Senate moving as we do the people’s work. We’re excited to deliver on our strength in our leadership this 2023 session and beyond.” she said.

The caucus laid policy priorities into five areas: cannabis legalization, education equity, wealth and Black businesses, health, and housing.

In drafting legislation defining the cannabis industry, the caucus wants to ensure that African Americans who are minorities be included in growing, processing, and dispensing cannabis including thc Buddha Bear Carts .

A framework for weed licensing, regulation, and taxation must be enacted before recreational use can become legal on July 1.

A consulting firm has estimated that revenue from dispensaries in Maryland could reach about $1 billion after the industry gets underway within two years.

Sen. Jill Carter (D-Baltimore City) is sponsoring legislation to make certain criminal offenses involving cannabis civil offenses instead, punishable by civil penalties.

For instance, the court would be able to order a person younger than age 21 who is found guilty of possession of cannabis or Buddies carts to attend a drug education program approved by the state Department of Health. The Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee plans to hold a hearing on that bill on Feb. 1.

That same committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Feb. 2 to review a bill Carter is sponsoring that would prevent law enforcement officers from stopping a motorist solely based on an odor of cannabis without any evidence of intoxication or other valid cause.

“Courts have been divided about odor searches. But now, as marijuana products such as Chronic Carts will be legal, it would be an illegal activity for law enforcement officers to continue to use it as a pretext — the odor of marijuana,” Carter said. “What we’ll have is partial legalization and Black people will be vulnerable to existing arrest patterns where they will continue to be disproportionately targeted by law enforcement and saddled with criminal records as a result of marijuana legalization.”

Also, To combat bias searches of blacks that have led to undervaluing homes, businesses, and other real property that is owned by people of color or is in minority neighborhoods, legislation is being worked on to encourage, and educate, more Marylanders to become appraisers through a program called PAREA, said Del. Marvin Holmes Jr. (D-Prince George’s).

Similar legislation has been authorized in other states, including Iowa and New Jersey; lawmakers are reviewing legislation requiring appraisers to complete anti-bias training.

Other proposals backed by the caucus, including some in draft form and some yet to be filed, are:

   Doubling funds for the state’s Student Loan Tax Credit program — to be sponsored by Del. Karen Toles (D-Prince George’s).    Establishing the Small Business Protection Act to ensure minority-owned businesses are involved in the procurement process for state contracts — to be sponsored by Del. Nick Charles (D-Prince George’s) and Sen. Antonio Hayes (D-Baltimore City)    Creating a Commission on Public Health to focus on equity, the state’s response to COVID-19, racial and ethnic disparities in maternal mortality and birth outcomes, and other health measures — a bill sponsored by Del. Arianna Kelly (D-Montgomery County).    Establishing a statewide housing voucher program with an upfront investment of $15 million.

The 64 legislators in the caucus, which Wilkins said is the most significant Black caucus in the nation, are a powerful voting bloc and include four prominent leaders from both chambers: House Speaker Adrienne Jones (D-Baltimore County), Speaker Pro Tem Sheree Sample Hughes (D-Lower Shore), House Majority Whip Jazz Lewis (D-Prince George’s) and Senate President Pro Tem Malcolm Augustine (D-Prince George’s).

“Our strength is not just in our numbers. It’s in our leadership,” Wilkins said. “The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland stands together…ensuring that every single one of these priorities are passed this legislative session.”

It should be noted that the deity and Venerable Kumara Kassapa had known each other in a previous birth. During the dispensation of Kassapa Buddha, there was a deterioration in the practice of Dhamma among the monastics which prompted a group of seven monks to take drastic measures to ensure their strict practice to attain enlightenment. They climbed on to a hill in the forest and isolated themselves to meditate with great effort and until they were enlightened or faced death through starvation.

The eldest of the group became an Arahant on the first night. Others refused to eat the food brought by him because they did not want him to collect food for their survival. Another elder became a Non-Returner (anagami).

He eventually passed away to be reborn in one of the Brahma worlds called Pure Abodes (suddhavasa). The remaining five monks died without attaining any supra mundane stage and were reborn in the celestial worlds.

All five of them were reborn as human beings during this dispensation of Gautama Buddha and eventually became disciples of the Buddha. They were named Sabhiya, Pukkusati, Dabba Mallaputta, Bahiya Daruchiriya and Kumara Kassapa.

Venerable Kumara Kassapa had an interesting back ground during his present birth. His mother who belonged to a very rich family resisted marriage for a long time as her ambition was to become a nun. She eventually got married with an assurance from her husband that he will let her become a nun later on. She eventually became a nun but, after a short while she was discovered to be pregnant and was ordered by Devadatta to leave the Order. The Buddha arranged for her to be examined and counselled by a group including lady Visakha and Arahant Upali (the foremost in the monastic disciplinary rules). When it was discovered that she had conceived before becoming a nun, she was allowed to continue with the pregnancy and the baby son who was born was adopted by King Kosala. The baby was named Kassapa and as he was brought up like a prince (Kumara), he came to be known as Kumara Kassapa. He was ordained as a novice monk at a very young age.
