so i was rewatching the end of lmk s4 with some friends today, and i noticed that in 4x10 peng says smth to nezha like "let the demon child come out and play!" and like. if i knew more about nezha lore thatd probably be quite concerning to me as a lorehead. and you seem knowledgeable. so. any thoughts?

oh boy. (cracks knuckles) it's late and i should be sleeping but I'm also sad so Nezha interest go BRRRRR

i will say for any accurate/culturally referenced info, go check out @ruibaozha - i am simply summing up as much as i can and some stuff is missing/not elaborated on

let me break down the basic elements of the Nezha myths.

Nezha is born his mom and his military dad, Li Jing, and his older brothers Muzha (second) and Jinzha (first). but Nezha is like fucking. superpower baby for some reason? Apparently the heavens decided to bless Li Jing with a powerful son for his military prowess, and Nezha's mom, Lady Yin(?), was pregnant for 3+ years. Then Nezha popped out as a goddamn ball of flesh. His dad attacked him because hey! Flesh ball! But then Nezha's ball split open and he jumped out as an already formed young child (ages often unclear- ppl say he's 7, or 12, and in some cases he died after only 3 days(?) alive.) either way, Taiyi Zhenren swoops in to be Nezha's master, and everything is fine for some time.

at least til Nezha kills Ao Bing. this part of the myth is really what defines Nezha as a "demon child" or not. in Fengsheng Yanyi/Investiture of the Gods, ONE of the older/more well-known written versions of his story, Nezha washes his sash in the East Sea and causes the dragon palace to quake. Ao Guang understandably gets pissed and sends up his general to ask him to stop, who Nezha kills. then Ao Guang's 3rd son, Ao Bing, who Nezha also kills (and rips out his tendon to wear as a belt)! sometimes Nezha also kills a demon, apprentice of Lady Earth Flow, miles away on accident because he randomly fired a bow. yet in another cases, Nezha is the hero- a demon came up to eat children at the shore, and Nezha obviously killed the dude, then Ao Bing, same thing. but in other other versions, Nezha was friends with Bing and accidentally killed him while playing due to being ultra powerful...

and then Ao Guang threatens Nezha's town, because the kid killed his son. (sometimes Nezha goes and strangles Guang before he can talk to the Jade Emperor, so...) Guang demands an apology and/or Nezha's life or he'll flood the whole mountain pass. and Nezha decides to slit his own goddamn throat to apologize to his parents and "return his body to them". Aka: he commits suicide at like, seven(?)

From here on, stuff differs: Li Jing is a shitty dad (like he REALLY really hates Nezha. calls him a curse and beats him), Nezha gets a temple and Jing burns it down, Nezha gets reborn in a lotus body by his master and/or Buddha, goes on a murder rampage against his dad and Muzha (beats up Muzha w/ a golden brick), is forced to submit to his dad through a Golden Pagoda, making Li Jing the Golden Pagoda Bearing Li Jing, sometimes Jinzha gets to flog his brother, and Nezha's basically a bitter fire god (child) put into the literal armies of heaven. he's also got his 6/8-armed and 3-headed war form in the myths...

now, this is a very long yet still EXTREMELY short explanation of the myth(s), and the "message" really boils down to what version you tell- the boy who started stuff by (unintentionally) murdering people, or the hero. but a lot of the main point of nezha's myth was originally about filial piety, and can be told as a story to remind kids that the parents are always superior, but in more modern myths and stories, Nezha has ended up shifting more into a symbol of rebellion. He's the protection deity of children: the outcasts and the demon children, the kids who question things and are loud and outspoken and aren't what people (especially their parents) want them to be. Nezha's story entirely depends on region, context and intent, which makes him a very versatile figure.

Now, put that into LMK?

I have a lot of hcs abt why LMK Nezha is the way he is, but my main one comes down to that "demon child" line. I like to think that Nezha was basically an uncontrolled force of war power and killed Ao Bing (regardless of the situation).

But then he got put into heaven and 1. realized how he acted and had to deal with crushing guilt and self-hatred and 2. got groomed into a (then) child soldier 👍

He was still a general, but learned to channel all that destructive power into being a protector and how to defend instead (ex: his shields, sealing power, etc). He takes his current job very seriously bc he sees it as his only reason to still be worth existing. he also dislikes Wukong bc he sees far too much of a younger him in Wukong; doomed for destructiveness and chaos. this is also why i put parallels to Nezha and MK because. yeah. (and imo, although i know Nezha paid it back w/ his suicide, I'm a bit surprised Mei wasn't taught to hate him, due to how much family matters to dragons...)

so aka, my hc of: "dude was literally always seen as a demon child/symbol of destruction, and therefore after being used as a literal war weapon and then being made to guard a map for ages (probably because he didn't want to harm anyone else), DUDE'S GOT ISSUES!"

What I think Lego monkie kid characters favorite fast foods are.

This is strictly just head canons so if you don't like it then that's ok, I have an opinion and you yours.

Mk: KFC. I also think he likes the desserts that he buys from there as well. He's a bit upset about KFC not issuing out unlimited drinks after COVID but he definitely orders from there.

Mei: Popeyes. She likes the spicy food and fries and she loves the popcorn chicken there as well, she drinks either coca cola or lemon soda with the chicken.

Pigsy: Burger King, he liked that they're fast with their food and orders a burger for Tang sometimes when he asks cause Tang can be picky on the fast food he eats(except for pigsy, he loves his husband's noodles)

Tang: Depending on his mood he either goes for Wendy's or Little Caesars. Absolutely despises going to other pizza places for some reason and occasionally eat burgers from Burger King.

Sandy: I believe that he's a vegetarian but for this one time he looks like somebody that eats subway sandwiches. He even gets a coupons and cards there for deals and event food.

Nezha: Pizza Hut and Little Caesars. He fucking LOVES their pizzas since he can order them online or on call and they'll deliver hot for him in less than 2 hours. They can be a bit messy for pizzas sometimes but he doesn't mind at all, he likes eating them while he works and his favorite drink is Pepsi.

Dbk and PIF: Burger King and Pizza Hut, no literally, they will order from them at the same time and get an extra pizza for Redson since he doesn't really like eating burgers.

Redson: Popeyes and Pizza hut, he eats more Popeyes than Pizza Hut but that doesn't matter to him, he loves the popcorn chicken and for Pizza Hut, everytime without fail he orders jerk chicken and green pepper pizza with stuffed crust, Bro cries when he eats cause it's just that fucking good, favorite drink with it is Sprite, the hell juice.

✦ Oh boy! Here we go.

I created a LMK Au just for funsies. A furutistic, high technologic world with cyberpunk vibes! (Because I absolutely love this type of aesthetic)

✦ the picture above is just a quick drawing I did of Macaque in this AU. I will get into details about the AU while showing a few infos of a few LMKs characters alongside with their designs. (Just a reminder I'm still creating the AU and it's my first time making one. It might be a little messy, so I apologize if it gets too messy--)

Oh! And by the way, the characters on this AU follow the same basic formula as the original characters. So it doesnt have much changes, other than the world they live in, their clothes and a few events.

✦ MK, The Monkie Kid

• Its the same thing as our little MK from the animated series, he works at Pigsy's Noodles as a delivery boy, is the Monkey king's biggest fan and is his successor and pretty much the basic stuff.

• He learned about the Monkey king with Mister Tang. He is a huge fan.

• Tho he isn't a great expert, he knows how to how to fix computer cases, machines and vehicles and build stuff by using old pieces (he learned with Pigsy and Sandy, just in case his delivery vehicle breaks in the middle of the road or a something start malfunctioning in the noodle store). As we can see, he works more in the hardware part.

• He likes to collect the old pieces of old devices that people throw away in the city's old graveyard. It's like a type of recycling. (That's also how he find the Monkey king's staff but that is a thing I will tell in details in another day--)

• He loves to draw!!! Hooray!!! He also likes to play games. Is always playing video games with his best friend, Mei, on the arcade or online.

✦ Mei, The White Horse Dragon Girl

• She's a programmer/developer of softwares (Yes I know that in I drawing I said she's a "hacker but a bit clumsy" but actually i wanted to say shes a programmer. I was sleepy, it was 2 am, and my brain wasn't braining 😰😰😰---) with a few knowledge about hardwares. She created her technological helmet system with MK's help. (Her helmet it's similiar to Iron man's helmet from inside.)

• She built her own motorcycle, again with MK's help. She participates a lot motorcycles race just for funsies.

• Loves to play games. I guess I could say she is quite of a professional gamer? She play to win. But when she is playing with MK or with other friends, she doesnt care losing or winning, she only cares about enjoying some quality time with them.

✦ Liu'er Mihou, The Six Eared Macaque.

• Pretty much same as the original Macaque. (Lost his eye in the past with a fight against Sun Wukong. Omg betrayal. Yknow the deal-)

• Here he is a Hacker/Cracker.

"But what is a cracker?" You may ask. Now it's time for my nerd/TI studant side take over. A cracker it's a mean hacker. The cracker breaks/attacks the systems and webs for their own benefit, which it's for illegal purposes. Now a Hacker it's actually a job, which their purpose its to find the security breaches and ways to how break it, so then they can make the security stronger and prevent invasions/attacks at the system.

With that being said, Macaque is a hacker/cracker. So he makes defense systems to himself and breaks into other systems for illegal purposes.

• He got these gloves that helps him hack things better, he created it himself. He create floating holograms like it's a tablet screen and can hold on these holograms using these gloves. With a simple touch he can steal database from a device and hack it's system. (He can hack machines, computers, tech weapons and even the light system.)

• He got his shadow magic too, same as the original one. Shadow clones, shadow portals... but he kinda makes a fusion between his magic and the technology he invented to himself. (Before anyone say it. YES! I got heavily inspired by Sombra from Overwatch. 😔)

✦ The Monkey King, Sun Wukong

• Yeah, the Monkey king. The great sage equal to heaven. The silly who made a havoc on heaven---

• HE GOT THAT HUGE MECHA WE SAW IN THE ANIMATED SERIES BECAUSE HE DOESNT LIKE USING HIS KAIJU FORM !!!

But he doesnt use the mecha much. It has been CENTURIES since he last use it. Now MK is the one who uses it because he is Sun Wukong's successor.

• That's not his "Monkey King" royal clothes. It just some casual/comfy clothes to use in everyday life.

• He already knew who MK was. MK is a stone Monkey just like himself. Wukong have been watching the kid grow up from far. He grow a bit attached to the boy.

Sun Wukong surely wasn't expecting to MK being able to lift his golden staff, so he think in the opportunity to make him his sucessor and teach him how to use his new powers. (Yes, I was lisiting to "the horse and the infant" song. How did you kn--)

Anyway imagine if the last time wukong talked to macaque was when he was under the mountain, he doesn't know he died, so he got left wondering where he was for 500+ years and suddenly he's back and he's trying to kill an innocent kid and talking about wukong betraying him and killing him (wukong has zero idea of what he's talking about but at this point he's used to take the blame for everything, so he doesn't correct macaque. Why would he ever try? No one would listen to him anyway.)

Lego Monkie Kid headcanon: Macaque’s hidden ability

So we know how Macaque “supposedly” has six ears, right? We even have an official reference sheet showing them + his Lego figure

But although it says “only for extreme close-ups” we have never seen them that detailed like in the top left.

Another thing that has never been used is his ability to hear the past and future, which I think it’s at least mentioned in JTTW.

Now, I know Lmk has its changes from JTTW and they probably change that too, but the other day I thought of a headcanon that I wanted to share:

The reason Macaque hides his six ears is not because he’s embarrassed of them or something, but because they allow him to use that ability of hearing past + future

I like to think that having his ears exposed for too long could make him also accidentally hear something (from past or future) or give him extra headaches and so he prefers to not use that ability and keep it hidden (along his other physical features under a glamour)

Also, since it also says “or if indicated in boards” we could still possibly see them like that, but they would need a reason why, right? ;)

HEADCANON for monkie kid

Wukong is the short one

There’s no exact monkey species that we can be certain Wukong is based off of but personally I headcanon him as a rhesus Macaque because of their more orangey fur and reddish/peachy face markings. Whereas I like to headcanon that Macaque is from the upper mountains of flower fruit mountain and is closer to a Japanese Macaque, who on average are bigger (males being around 11kg).

But also because Wukong is the heavy hitter out of the two I like to think that he’s also on the chubbier side, his weight helping to put more force behind his attacks. Then in contrast because Macaque is a performer I think he’d be pretty slim, his lack of muscles making him slightly self conscious in his younger years.

Chang’e and Macaque / Moonduo brainworm stuff

When Macaque got frustrated one time, he went over to visit Chang’e and she baked something for him to cheer him up and he was like “I could do that” (spoiler alert he FAILED MISERABLY AT BAKING.)

Then Chang’e decided to teach him how to bake because she thinks it could be therapeutic for him and help him through stress :)

They both have sleepovers and Chang’e even got Mac silly pajamas so they can match while gossip at the same time

Everytime macaque complains about something it ALWAYS has something to do with WUKONG and Chang’e is honestly done with those two but find them funnily amusing… you know

Also Chang’e is one of the very few people Macaque allows hugs from because she gives the best comforting hugs ever 🫂🫂

S/O has six ears like macaque but they are not a monkey so they just have six elf ears that can hear from miles away.

I also wanna mention the S/O acts like macaque before he was k worded by sun. (if you don’t agree how I think he acted before then that’s fine)

Well..he didn’t know about your ears at first, but to be fair you did walk into pigsy with your ears covered.

He did get a little confused how you knew certain things and how you knew when someone was around…so to say the least he didn’t really understand you.

But he did appreciate you because you got him out of doing stupid stuff. (you also saved him from getting kidnapped a LOT)

You 100% jump scare him at least once.

He loved how theatrical you were very much a theater kid but sometimes he doesn’t really understand your sarcasm 😭 (autism I don’t take criticism) 

But oh boy when he first saw them he was mesmerized by them…..it kinda freaked you out by how quiet he was.

He also does this thing where he whispers into his hands…..which looks weird when you see him doing it, but he does it because he knows you can hear him….you can tell he’s saying something cute or dorky cause you will just a be bright red or you would be struggling to hide your smile.

sometimes he does accidentally yell a little bit too loud, or brings you into loud spaces but right when you mention it, he will immediately help you and apologize.

Either he tries to manipulate or he hates you so he tries to put you down (before season 3)

 he even calls you his little warrior throughout the 3 seasons which MK wasn’t the happiest about since..yk 😭

But your snarky and stubborn ass will beat that edgy monkie man’s ass.

After season three, I could see him trying to avoid you, but after a while, he will come back.

I could honestly see you guys becoming friends the overdramatic theater kid duo.

Dude Redson can fight me all he wants he is and will always be extremely ticklish. Or as you say mega ticklish.

- He gives major worst spot tummy vibes imo

- It would be so funny since I headcanon that MKs worst spot is his tummy also, so Redson would basically have the same worst spot as the person he “hates” lmfao. It would be so embarrassing for him.

- He’ll say he hates it but actually likes it. He obviously didn’t get much affection as a kid since his parents were both scary villan mfs, so meeting the squad (Mk, Mei, Tang, Pigsy, Sandy) introduced him to new forms of affection. Tickling,

- Like he’s never been tickled before, so it’s completely new to him. Like he knows what it is and stuff but he’s never really experienced it.

- Mei loves poking him. Like little pokes in the side and such. It drives him crazy lmfao.

- I like to think that his laugh is actually really light and childish. I just think it would be funny if it was because his normally personality is so intense and dramatic.

- As I just said he’s very dramatic, and as such obviously he gets so dramatic when tickled. Like he’s thrashing and kicking n stuff. Don’t be surprised if he ends up hurting someone if they tickle him lmao.

- If you get him on the back of the shoulders (light and soft tickles) he will literally melt. He loves it there and it embarrasses him to no end how much he loves it. It just feels so nice!

LMK HC: in JTTW the monkeys at Flower Fruit Mountain call Wukong "Grandpa Sun" (Sun Yé Ye)

Nezha is 500-900+ years older than Wukong The monkeys see them as brothers bc (gestures to most of LMK) and have made their own choices about that

So in LMK, whenever Nezha visits FFM, the monkeys call him "great-granduncle Nezha" ("tài shúshu")(?), partly as a familial address and partly to join their grandpa in pissing him off

Pigsy doesn't like to leave Mei and MK alone together because their dumbassery will bounce off of each other, and they'll end up accidently setting fire to the city or something

Headcanon that Wukong doesn't know how to cook many things, but when it comes to making desserts with peach or anything that contains peach in it, he knows it very well.
