I wanted the sea turtle but they were sold out of it. I still wanted one since I get a build a bear every year on vacation and the bear builder really sold me on the chameleon, so that’s what I picked out. Everyone meet Boy George
(formerly named Karma Chameleon since that was the song the bear builder kept singing about it since it’s a chameleon and that’s what they named theirs and I loved that name so much, but then the majority of people my age nowadays probably forgot about that song and instead think I named it after that stupid Jojo Siwa song before they even consider Karma Chameleon a thought so I changed it because that song makes me want to bash my head in)

Would love your thoughts on Hank's sense of style and what the big blue furball might do to spice up his wardrobe. Understandably, his size and the fur can make insulation and fitting a drag.
With he and Emma being friends in some iterations, I also wonder what he might look like in a Hellfire Gala outfit? Maybe a deep open-v suit?
With him being so theatrical and charming you can't help but wonder what it'd be like if he let himself dress up (or down, if he wants to be comfy)
"I believe it was Harry Winston, a luxury jeweller, who said that, 'people will stare. Make it worth their while.' You can understand why such a sentiment rings true for me.
I wouldn't say that I'm vain, but I do take a good amount of care in my appearance - how you dress, how you comport yourself, how you present, it all adds up to the impression you make and the way you live on in people's heads. Fashion and style are, naturally, an important part of that."
Tumblr media
So, Hank is one of those characters for whom dress is an important facet of their personality and their presentation - in some ways, just as important as it is for, say, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Monet St. Croix, Janet van Dyne, Warren Worthington; it's a very particular kind of character that obsesses over these minute details, but Hank is unique among them because fashion feels as though it was, in some respects, something he had to start paying attention to, rather than being an indulgence born of wealth or an expectation that came about as a result of social class.
Hank, being a farmboy who grew up in Illinois, did not originally have the same expectation of standards for dress as, say, Emma or Warren. So, naturally, you see a fair amount of variation of casual clothing when he's younger. Black turtlenecks, shirts, and, especially when he became more athletically inclined, jerseys and the like.
Tumblr media
It's an underrated aspect of Hank's character, but he's very much a social chameleon. In Defenders #116, he has this monologue:
"I developed an interesting skill. I learned how to recreate myself - how to construct new personalities to win people over, and protect me from them at the same time. In my X-Men days, it was the 'intellectual' game. That was the Hank McCoy you first met - the guy who hid behind a smokescreen of big words and big ideas.
But inside I was the same scared kid I always was. I thought I was beginning to find myself when I left Professor Xavier's school, and went out on my own - but then I accidentally turned myself into this overgrown Muppet, and it was back to square one! My whole world fell apart!
To keep myself together, I put on a new mask. No more stuffy, brainy Henry McCoy. Now I was Happy-Go-Lucky Hank, the man of a thousand jokes! I'll tell you, sometimes I don't know who I am!"
Naturally, this all goes part and parcel with his dress sense, and you see it again when he joins the X-Men - not only does he conform to the Professor's ideas of what was best to wear, usually a smart suit (which was the general expectation for a lot of young men in the 60s, and it's sort of 'artifacted' over even though he logically can't have been born in that decade anymore), but he also tends not to show much variation in his costumes, either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And a general consideration that you always have to bear in mind with Hank, in ANY form, is that shoes are pretty much always painful. He finds any excuse to take them off, and when he does wear them, unless there's a requirement for them to be of a certain style, he usually opts for something like a sandal. This naturally impacts his stylistic choices to a degree.
But, even still, he's dressing fairly normally for the moment. One has to imagine his clothes are, if not tailored, then probably being bought from a specialist store designed for men with larger builds, which probably contributes to why he's not sticking out very much when it comes to his sartorial decisions - but, realistically speaking, it's a conscious choice: he's trying to blend in.
"Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life," said Bill Cunningham - well, I think that's certainly true for Hank in this stage of his life. But, naturally, things are going to change for Hank, and I've always found it significant that he initially tries to continue presenting as he has before, with a mix of make-up, binders and encompassing suits, to maintain a through-line of normality.
Tumblr media
"I'm a man again!" Literally one of the single most trans coded characters in all of fiction if you bother to examine him closely enough, but, whatever, we're here to talk about fashion.
Now, eventually, he realises that he can't do this for the rest of his life - he has to come out of his shell and embrace who he is.
Tumblr media
So, now we come to one of the first decisions of self-presentation that Hank has, largely, had to make for himself. Explicitly, this is his choice of how to be viewed . . . and it is brazen. He isn't wearing a costume, really, he isn't wearing a helmet or a mask, he is almost buck naked! He's cast off the armour, and embraced who he is.
Now, he's gonna go back and forth on this, he's gonna have his up days and his down days, but it's still an important part of his character in this form - think about what it says, to have made this mistake that's going to define you for the rest of your life, and then to wear it on your sleeve.
Think about what it says, that Hank turned blue and furry and bestial, and he said, fuck it, I'm going to show the world what and who I am. Honestly, it's a powerful statement! Lauren Hutton once said, "Fashion is what you're offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose." Well, Hank is choosing this!
But, there's two other factors to consider.
One! Hank is on a team with a noted fashion designer, Janet van Dyne, who has all kinds of experience with fabrics and fashions and designs that have to fit on unconventional body types (for those who don't know the name, she's the Wasp, and her partner was Ant-Man/Giant-Man), so I've always been of the belief that almost all of Hank's clothes from this point on are van Dyne originals, either given to him or bought using his Avengers wages, unless they seem like they wouldn't fit Janet's styles.
Two! Hank is a sexual being now.
Tumblr media
This man is roughly 21 years old. He's a superhero. He lives life on the edge. Every day could be his last. He has disposable income, a muscular body, wit, charm, and boundless intelligence.
Which means he's gonna fuck. And let's be real here, the man can get away with wearing nothing, he's doing it most of the time, but people appreciate it when you put a little effort into what you wear. It shows that you care. So, now we start to see Hank indulging in fashion.
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite outfits for Hank, because it is so painfully 1970s, and yet. Iris Apfel once said, "Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There's no how-to road map to style. It's about self expression and, above all, attitude."
Hank possesses self expression and attitude in spades. The clothes do not wear him, he wears them. If you aren't aware of Derek Guy, writer of Die, Workwear! then you should do a dive into some of his writing, but here's a Twitter thread talking about some peak 1970s tailoring, and if you look at it, it's clear that Hank is cutting edge.
This is not a fashion disaster. This is chic. This is a man who exudes confidence, who knows that bright colours suit a man with an uncommon complexion, who knows that a suit and tie aren't quite appropriate for clubbing in the '70s, so he's opted for something open, something daring, something loud, something that suits him.
Tumblr media
This outfit from the same issue is the same - I'm awfully sad we don't get to see more of it. The purple shirt is such a nice touch, and yellow is a hard colour to pull off in real life, but Hank makes it work for him.
Tumblr media
Classic panel, classic look! Because here's the thing - if you take a moment to really look at Hank and Simon here, if you can see past the colours that the 1970s allowed men to wear without being considered garish, again, this is a well tailored suit, with a shirt that speaks to confidence and self-assuredness, to individuality. Again, he's not wearing clothes that cover up who he is, he's matching his skin tone and pitching his clothing to match.
You need to know what colours complement you, and bright colours, especially yellow, have always suited Hank.
But! He also knows that different social occasions call for different things. After all, Oscar de la Renta once said, "Being well dressed hasn't much to do with having good clothes. It’s a question of good balance and good common sense." Meaning that you can't always be sporting bright colours, sometimes you have to dress a bit more modestly - but there's a difference between modest, and boring.
Tumblr media
This is a lovely outfit for Hank - a bit later now, this is mid-1980s, and you would think that this is dressing down a bit so that he can give a lecture, but, befitting the tone of his address and his personality, his outfit is formal, yet still spirited! Slate grey complements his fur colour nicely, but there are a lot of fun touches to elevate what could be a boring outfit, such as the bright blue cummerbund and bowtie (which is a touch oversized), and the white piping along his pants.
The powder blue accentuates his natural colour while working in tandem with the shirt and suit - there is no clash here, apart from the bright yellow button, but, given that he's wearing a Church of the SubGenius badge here, a parody religion that used the tactic of culture jamming to promote an avoidance in mainstream commercialism and the belief in absolute truths, that's probably intentional! He wants you to notice it! Command of colour balance! It's important!
It's also interesting to compare it to two later outfits he would wear while in his feline form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left, a darker blue suit, a less loud bowtie - in conjunction with the glasses, he's notably more official and formal looking, which is appropriate for the occasion (here, he's dismantling the old Xavier school after the X-Men have moved to San Francisco, so it's almost a kind of mourning outfit), but still tasteful. He is not stodgy or ill-dressed, it's just a different take on much the same outfit.
Compare and contrast with what he's wearing on the right - still slate grey, but with a brighter bowtie, a tasteful red, and a waistcoat. Notably more buttoned up, notably more prim, and the bowtie is notably pitched up to attract attention - all of which is intentional. He's attempting to control where you're looking in a way that the outfit on the left is not, even though it's ostensibly the exact same ensemble. The dark blue blends with his fur, the slate grey contrasts - the one on the right is notably 'louder' and commands attention. These are choices. These are choices being made by a man that has come to effortlessly manipulate clothing so that you see what he wants you to see.
Even when it comes to casual wear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Think about what these choices say. They speak to relaxation, to ease, to the projection of casualness. This is not a man who is afraid of dressing up when the occasion calls for it - but that's the point, isn't it? When the occasion calls for it.
Tumblr media
Now, with all that established, I'm gonna just showcase some other examples of Hank's style, in the form of a moodboard I made quite some time ago!
Tumblr media
And I'm going to shout out a favourite of mine.
Tumblr media
White suit, cream vest, red shirt, purple tie - such a mixture of colours, and yet. It all just sort of works, doesn't it?
Oh, oh, and another favourite of mine!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pinstripe vest with the arms cut off for the gun show? I'm sorry, but that is incredible. That is a style icon. That's sportiness and formality in one outfit, that says I can lay you out with one punch but I'm not going to because I'm a man of grace and gentleness. Have you ever seen an outfit that's more effortlessly Hank McCoy?
Now, naturally, this all falls apart when we get to Krakoa . . .
Tumblr media
Immediately a downgrade. The fit, at least here, looks fine, but it's just so boring and practical and blends in - and, yes, I understand that it's a Hellfire Gala at which X-Force is providing security, but it just doesn't feel like Hank to me? And, I hate to point this out, but if the objective is to blend in, then, surely, if you're at a party at which everyone is wearing things like this . . .
Tumblr media
Then wearing something bland and nondescript only actually serves to make you stand out more? So it's in this weird halfway house of boring enough to mark you out as security, but too boring to make you actually blend in.
And that's before we get into the bolo tie. Bolo ties, a type of necktie consisting of a piece of cord or braided leather with decorative metal tips (called aiguillettes) and secured with an ornamental clasp or slide, are usually associated with Western cowboy culture - you see Wolverine wearing these things, and it just doesn't fit any version of Hank's aesthetic?
It's also just a very loud kind of neckwear to be wearing if we're going with the security aesthetic, it draws attention immediately, especially the splotch of red that makes the X stand out - if we're going for something subtle, surely black on white would have been a better choice? To say nothing of the shorts, which - like, usually, those make a ton of sense for Hank, he's wearing them with the pinstripe vest I highlighted above, but again, it contrasts so much with the stately, boring aesthetic of the outfit?
Tumblr media
All it takes is one look at everyone's outfit to see that Hank got a uniquely raw deal here - Sage and Domino look great with the asymmetrical fits, to say nothing of it complementing their natural colour choices; Wolverine looks fine, the bolo tie suits him; Quentin looks, bleh, but it's serviceable; and then there's Hank. Being humiliated in this shitty little shorts suit with a bolo tie that doesn't suit him. It's just so unflattering.
This is the choice of a man who doesn't give a fuck, which is not Hank - but, then again, this is X-Force, are we remotely surprised that this isn't a very Hank thing to wear? Even the clothing choices are off-base. And one of the other instances that comes to mind . . .
Tumblr media
Ugh. It's literally drawn to be as bulbous and ill-fitting and unpleasant as possible. Even details like the band of the bow tie being visible are all wrong. This is humiliation by fashion, and I refuse to believe that it wasn't intentional.
Now, as for what I would have wanted out of a Hellfire Gala outfit for Hank? Honestly, I found a lot of them to be particularly garish and loud, but something that's still befitting Hank's outspoken style while not being embarrassing would be nice. I think that something like Colman Domingo's style would be appropriate!
Tumblr media
Something impressive, something loud, but not garish, something that complements and accentuates the body rather than overpowering it. Hell, consider the larger body type that Hank was sporting during Krakoa - something open, that showcased his musculature but also his pleasing roundness, would have been rather avant garde, honestly. Kris Anka, notably for his fashion sensibilities, has even drawn Hank in this form (albeit slimmer) before, and he came out with something really quite lovely! It's possible!
Tumblr media
Finally, I'll leave off with a piece by Sam Johnstone, and I'd like to draw particular attention to his blurb:
Tumblr media
"Dr. Hank McCoy AKA Beast! – Kicking off the second year of Mutant Mondays with one of the most well known X-Men there is. There have been so many versions of Beast over the years, from gregarious and avuncular to sociopathically pragmatic, and that breadth of representation is one of the reasons I put off drawing him – how do you pick which version of the character to focus on?
He’ll always be one of the most interesting characters from the perspective of ‘mutation’ – one of the few examples in Marvel comics where a character is not just allowed to change over time, but one who is defined by the incremental, unpredictable nature of that change, whether in his personality or in what literal form his body takes.
Like so many people, my first exposure was though the animated series, but the moment that unlocked him for me was in New X-Men, where he reckons with the fear of what his changing body means for his sense of self. When his appearance becomes more feline, and his hands grow into paws and he loses the dexterity that was always the one way his physical mutation actually complimented his brain instead of contrasted it. So that’s the era I’ve tapped into here. I’ve taken the feline-era’s lion-like features down a notch, and imagined a version of that approach that blended the more animalistic aspects of his mutation with his avengers physicality.
Now onto the fashion: I wanted to put him in some american ivy inspired menswear since I think his vanity is one of his most under-sung characteristics (and also, the browns compliment his fur), and the version of the character leaping around in underarmor is much less interesting to me than the version of the character who is definitely wearing fake lenses in his wire-rim frames. My ideal interpretation would have Hank really into tailoring, to balance form with function (Saying to cyclops "With the right materials and cut, you can do any amount of superheroing in a sport coat. Any choice not to is just personal style")."
I couldn't agree more with Mr. Johnstone here. Hank has a sense of vanity, an indisputable appreciation for what appearance means and what it communicates. I've talked at length about how his relationship with his body necessitates a degree of performance of not just humanity, but also specifically masculinity, a degree of gender presentation - he wants to be recognised as human, and not just specifically human, but warm blooded male, and his clothing sense should absolutely reflect that.
Also tagging @mccoysofthemultiverse because I'm sure their Hal has thoughts on all of this.

Hope you’re doing well! This ask might seem a bit different, but if you’ve seen or read the golden compass (one of my favourites) the characters have daemons, which is basically their soul, what do you think class A daemons would be, including All Might and Aizawa if you want. Thanks for all your amazing work!
If daemons existed in the bnha universe, what would the characters have? Sorry for my bad English 😅
So the way I understand it, Daemons are basically spirit animals with certain rules and connections to their person. There is some link between the animal and the personality of the person. They're basically a spirit animal. So I'll try to match what animals I think fit them and avoid any obvious ones, like making Shoji's daemon a squid.
Tumblr media
Sato-Gorilla: The gorilla's power is great, yet it's fare more gentle of a creature then it first seems. Koda-Rabbit: Shy and skittish, the rabbit never the less makes a for a wonderful companion. Sero-Spider: Nature's weavers, the spiders truly offer a unique yet practical way of helping the world. Mineta-Squirrel: A squirrel is considered a pest by many, it's stature hides a surprising amount of intelligence. Hagakure-Chameleon: Hidden from the world, the chameleon is no less a colorful and observant creature. Ojiro-Beetle: A small, unassuming creature, the beetle hides an impressive power all it's own. Aoyama-Swan: The prime and proper swan is often hunted, yet is monstrous when it is cornered. Shoji-Tortise: Slow and uncomplicated, but above all else, the tortoise is resilient. Denki-Dog: A friendly and loyal animal, the dog is not above moments of utter silliness. Jiro-Bat: A widely misunderstood animal, the bat is defined by it's ability to listen about all else. Momo-Bee: The bee is an animal of creation and leadership, leading the others to build a strong hive. Mina-Parrot: Parrots are loud and unafraid to speak their minds, bearing their colors for all to see. Tsuyu-Capybara: The capybara's peaceful nature reflects it's acting, seen as both soft and friendly. Tokoyami-Owl: A dark and mysterious creature, the ominous owl haunts the nights with it's loud cries. Kirishima-Armadillo: An animal that starts out weak, but the armadillo's shell grows stronger with maturity. Uraraka-Otter: An otter is a cute, friendly, and group oriented animal that will kill you if it gets the chance. Tenya-Wolf: While a powerful figure in it's own right, the wolf survives due to its ability to work with others. Shoto-Cat: The aloof and quiet cat is hard to get to understand, but loyal to those who earn its admiration. Bakugou-Tiger: While often admired for their power and ferocity, the tiger is defined by its pride and solitude. Izuku-Ram: By no means a predator, the mighty ram meats all challenges head on and unafraid.

The ninja deserve emotional support animals except they’re them so none of them get a damn dog or something.
Zane has a penguin, he’s lovingly called zaneguin (real name: Peniuella, or Penny) (Penny gets along with Zane’s bird) (he rlly wanted a polar bear. Wu said no) (he waddles with the penguin, bro loves waddling.) (he once waddles over to some villains full penguin style as a on the spot distraction. Cole gave him a lecture about safety and being smart. Zane waddled away right after it was done.)
Kai has a parrot, bro loves his parrot (he’s called parry the parrot and he’s taught him how to scream FIYAAAAA) (Kai is usually the first ninja up for training, so he actually get his parrot to wake the others (Nya) up by putting Parry in their room and getting him to scream their elements.) (its become a common thing to hear ‘WATAHHHHH’ at 6am in the morning) (or ‘GREANNNNNNNN’ or maybe ‘ARTHHHHHH’ in a really deep voice. Cole had nightmares after hearing how deep Parry’s voice can get.)
Lloyd has a ferret, he’s just a ferret kinda guy. He also got a chinchilla soon after cause he got the dust for a dust bath, and then found out ferrets can’t have dust baths (he just wanted a lil guy to have a dust bath with.) (Yeah you heard me, Lloyd does dust baths. He likes the feeling of it.) (he rlly wanted to called his ferret ferry the ferret but Kai already took the joke, he called him Mr Ferrington instead.) (plus his Chinchilla is called Chilly, he loves dressing him up in mini versions of Zane’s gi because of it.)
Nya has two rats, she calls them her babies (don’t insult her rats, she will drown you.) (Jay named one Ratatouille, and as much as she hated the name she had no choice but to keep it, Jay would be sad if she didn’t.) (the other rat is called Rumphly. She thought it sounded sophisticated.) (she lets her rats burrow in her hair.) (she also has to protect everything she owns, her rats chew on everything and anything. Nothing is free from their menacing little mouths.)
Jay has a spider. He’s a lil weirdo like that (its a deadly spider) (he found it in his workshop) (it was 2:54 am and dark) (he almost died from the damn thing) (Pixal almost lost it when Jay literally clung to her begging her not to kill it-sorry, my mistake, her.) (he stays up late at night building stuff and chatting to her and she dances every time Jay goes on an excited ramble.)
Cole has a lizard, and it’s a Chameleon. He named her Lizzy (Kai calls her Queenie.) (he lowkey lost Lizzy on her first day and had a breakdown) (Jay said that defeated the purpose of an emotional support animal) (until at 11pm at night they found out Lizzy was just chilling in Cole’s hair and they just couldn’t tell) (everyone thought Cole was gonna be annoyed, but bro lowkey broke down again because he got emotional about how she clung to him the whole time.) (he got Lizzy because he missed Rocky) (I miss Rocky too)
+extras
Morro has a rabbit. Named Chompy (and they’re a ghost) (lowkey Morro has no idea what Chompy is, the lil brat just jumped onto him and went ‘CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP’ and bit him.) (it looks like a rabbit, if oni’s could be rabbits.) (he blames Garmadon, he probably corrupted the damn thing and now he has some weird monstrous rabbit attached to him) (he does like telling Chompy to attack tho. He finds it hilarious when the other ghosts are sent running) (their convos go like ‘No Chompy, you can’t eat my book’ ‘chomp chomp?’ ‘Because i said so.’ ‘Chomp chomp!’ ‘Uh, yes, i can.’ ‘Chomp chomp chomp!!’ ‘Wha-why you little-’) (everyone thinks he’s mentally unstable for thinking he can understand them) (and maybe he is but you can shove it, he deserves to talk to weird monster animals who actually like him, after what ever octopus bull the preeminent pulled)
Skylor has a turtle, she got him from Griffin (he couldn’t take care of him all the time and got busy so he asked Skylor if she’s willing to co-parent) (she had to agree that turtle was giving her puppy eyes) (they love acting like divorcees) (Kai pretends to the new boyfriend who hates the og partner) (the turtle is named Grecko) (Griffin wanted to mess with people who thought he was talking about an actual Gecko when instead he was talking about a turtle named Grecko) (Skylor loved and hated it at the same time) (she calls him Greg.) (she gets Greg to walk small distances over to kids in her restaurant and give them food) (the kids love him.)
Neuro has a mouse, five, to be precise. (Nya got the idea for a rat from Neuro, who has to explain to her the difference between the two.) (he loves letting them hide in random places of his body.) (don’t be surprised when you’re talking to him and a mouse just pops out of his shirts collar.) (he doesn’t even look phased.) (he’s accepted his fate as a climbing tree) (he is also trying to learn how to speak mouse by reading their minds) (its going…somewhere.)
Pixal has her lil robots. She loves mini pix with all her heart thats her baby.
Wu has his damn chicken and his chicken has been around for centuries. Morro also loved the chicken.

hey why do people get so mean about having a more interesting, occasionally fucked up, mistake making Colin Bridgerton written in fanfiction? What happened to liking complex characters? Just curious what your take was since imo you have some of my favorite diverse takes on colin that ground him in reality
Awww, thank you <3 I appreciate a lot that you like my takes on Colin
I have a lot of thoughts on this so I apologize for the super long response, but tbh, I think it goes back to the writing of the show itself. Since Colin wasn't given many opportunities to be fleshed out as a character on the show, people don't necessarily want him to be a full, complex, well rounded character in their fics, either. Unfortunately, Colin is framed largely as an accessory to Penelope in the grand majority of stories and to most fans: Pen is the main character, and thus Colin is the sexy lamp or the trophy or the prize for her narrative. Most people won't admit to that, but even from jump when he was courting Marina, his story wasn't about him. It was about her. She's living the love story, and he's the love interest. JUST the love interest. Not one with depth or a strong circle of community or even screentime. But an attractive One Day for our Heroine. Most people don't WANT him to be complex or a full character in light of that, because they never took him off the initial pedestal of it all. If he's not perfect, then he's not worthwhile. If he's not perfect, he should be punished.
And one only needs to look at how fans reacted to his 'I would never court Penelope Featherington' line in S2 and how everyone reacted. It was like he physically slapped her round the face and kicked her in the river by the way people responded instead of being a young man navigating patriarchal society and trying to fit in with men he's been told he should be like. But no one cared for the Why of Colin. People only cared about how it affected Penelope. Not how it contributed to his character arc, or how it showed us a glimpse into Colin the pretender, Colin the Chameleon, Colin the People Pleaser. Colin's actual motives and characterization has no bearing to most fans. Immediately afterward it was 'He doesn't deserve her' and I definitely saw how fast everyone was to ship Penelope with everyone and anyone else, including the most cardboard cutout NPC ever, Lord Penguin whose only character traits were being dry and vegetarian. Penelope and other cardboard cutout OCs. Penelope and OOC versions of Colin's own brothers. Anyone but him. Because how dare he be a character outside of his ascribed role of Love Interest?
Everything about Colin that's good is down to Luke Newton's acting and understanding, not from the writing. And I love him because I like to dig for that understanding, but the grand majority of people want it spoon fed to them. Unfortunately, that's hard to do with limited time. From the very beginning, Colin was truncated on the show. And the writers' lack of respect for him as a character in his own right didn't stop even when it was his own season, and he got the least amount of screentime of any lead in any season. Colin didn't really get to build relationships outside of Penelope. Though there were plenty of opportunities to highlight companionship he might have had with others- Phillip, Will, his own family, the show wasn't interested in showing us such things. Instead, Colin is a loner whose only real connection is Penelope. His emotional journeys are cut short, unseen, alluded to. And to make matters worse, fans scoffed him off because they 'couldn't even thirst over him', as he's the only member of the ABC club who didn't have a sex scene in S1. Or even a kiss. (well. . .I still thirsted, but that's because that face card never declined in his LIFE, Lukey boi, congrats on your genetics).
From the MOMENT we're introduced to him on that dance floor, through her eyes, in the warm light as he was dancing with a group, we were meant to see him as the perfect, pure prize for our darling Pen. So, he's not allowed to be much else to most fans.
It's weird to say that Anthony fucks and that's why people are less harsh on him for how he treated Kate and Edwina (that and the fact that he was also a production fave so he got a ton of screentime), but because Colin was set up to be this chaste, more wholesome character, fans are extra harsh whenever he has any slight with Penelope but like. . .that's partly what I think it is.
So when he does anything that is in any way an opposition or even not entirely in fawning of her, people get furious. Bridgerton fandom is. . .weird. Maybe it's the genre and what comes with it, maybe I'm used to seeing romance from other angles in which there's a long time to build to it and the personhood and characterization comes first, and the romance builds on top of it, but with the romance being the primary and largely only goal, and him not getting to really have many relationships outside of that romance, as soon as he shows any signs of being a character existing away from it, he's demonized.
And this even extends to Luke, I think. People have done the same to him: they want him to exist as a romantic option for Nicola, and so when he does anything, like just living his life in a way that doesn't subscribe to that fantasy, he's hated on.
I think people don't want to face the fact that Nicola got to play two characters, and Luke barely got the chance to play one. That he had to build Colin from the bones up largely on his lonesome. It isn't that one is a better actor than the other- it's the material. Colin and Penelope are both good character, but Penelope got development in the scripts and narratives, and Colin was largely ignored. Nicola and Luke are both good actors, but Nicola got screentime and Luke didn't. He got snubbed. And people are seeing it more and more because it was obvious. Same for Colin and Penelope. It's really, REALLY obvious who writer favorites are. They're the characters who have the most time on screen. The ones with a variety of stories. The ones with lots of relationships outside of their romance. And Penelope is undoubtedly a production favorite. Thus she gets the most narrative. Thus she has the most fans. And Colin, being her love interest, does not need to have character development or complexity for those fans to ship them. I mean. . .Colin isn't even allowed to have a friend who isn't Pen. To most fans, he exists FOR her. Not for himself. So they get mean when a writer doesn't see it that way. Many, MANY writers write him largely as whatever they want Pen to have, and many many fans prefer it that way. Colin isn't really Colin, to them. He's not a real character in their minds. He's an ideal. And ideals do not fuck up. Or, when they do, they are egregiously punished for it. Shoutout the rise of puritanism, I guess?
If the show itself won't take Colin seriously as a character in his own right, I'm not surprised the audience and fans don't, either.
I just wish it was different, is all.

you should like totes tell your charmy and es headcanonss
AWWHHH OF COURSE!!!!! I have sooo many teeheeee!!
( @merlyybird psssttt I know u wanted to hear some hcs too so here u go teehee)
Identity shenanigans!
Charmy: I like to envision Charmy having adhd and performance anxiety! (The latter was probably formed after the events of the Metal Virus saga) (Although, maybe ‘fear of failure’ is a better word? He’s just scared to mess important things up, basically) I also think he’d have dyscalculia :) (despite this, I also think that Math would be his favourite subject? Like, in the future, when or if he ends up going to school. If he doesn’t go to school I’m sure Espio would ‘home school’ him)
I also hc him to be Agender! He goes by he/him cause that’s what the most prominent figures in his life also go by, so it’s what he likes most :)
Espio: I absolutely ADORE the hc that Espio is trans ftm! A good few of my Espio hcs are kind of based on this, too :) Other than that, I like to imagine him being autistic, as well. Pretty popular headcanons, but what can I say!! They’re good!! Also, assuming that the same cultures that exist in real life could also be applied in the sth universe, I picture Espio to be Japanese with reaaall faint Arab roots. Mostly Japanese, though!
Pre-Team Chaotix
Espio and Charmy have been inseparable ever since they found each other, which was also really early in Charmy’s life! Espio had been searching for food and came across a small alleyway nearing a restaurant, only to find a very much alive bee child in one of the boxes. He knew it’d be irresponsible to take the kid, since, well.. He’s not exactly suited to take care of such a fragile child when he can’t even care for himself! But he couldn’t bear to leave him there knowing he’d most likely die soon.. so yeah! (I imagine Charmy being like.. Two here? And Espio Twelve)
Charmy REALLY loves to communicate! Current day, he uses mainly his words to talk with those around him, but he used to mainly communicate through movements akin to sign language! That’s how most bees talk, after all, and Espio wasn’t exactly much of a talker either! Espio DID start teaching him how to communicate verbally when he was like, three years old? And Charmy picked up a lot from just listening to others! But he didn’t verbally talk that much until they started getting in touch with other mobians :)
Espio (and Charmy, by extension) never really stayed in one place, being homeless and all. He’d gather all he could from one area, like stray bandages to use for injuries or food from fruit trees or dumpsters before leaving and finding someplace else to do all this again. This continued until he eventually stopped by Seaside city. He was fourteen by now, so he actually managed to get a job! :) Granted, it was a job as those newspaper boys who deliver the daily paper, but it’s better than nothing!!
Shorter one, but god, they LOVE the library. Espio’s such a bookworm, and Charmy loves to learn! Granted he does jump from book to book before ever finishing one, but still!
Miscellaneous hcs!
I like to think Espio’s horn didn’t really start growing till he got to seaside city. Chameleon horns can grow wonky or with difficulty if they don’t have enough or the right nutrients, and as I also imagine Espio’s horn to be an abnormality, it’s no surprise it took a while! Unfortunately, Espio used to get a LOT of headaches before it started growing, as it was never meant to stay inside the scales for so long!
Charmy’s reaaaallllyy good at detecting Espio (even when invisible!) granted he KNOWS Espio’s around. The kid grew up watching his brother train!! He’d know his tricks!!
Wherever they go, they build a treehouse. It kind of resembles a hive, in a weird way, and Chameleons are tree huggers! Even now that they live with Vector in the Team Chaotix Detective Agency, they still have a treehouse they go to every now and then nearby the agency!
Chameleons bruise their knees pretty easily, so I like drawing Espio with bandages around his legs :)

The Chameleon is actually a really complex character and here's why.
Disclaimer: This post will contain kfp 4 spoilers as well as include info from interviews and the animation featurette and I will be analyzing the movie pretending that everything had deeper thought put into it even tho it's most likely not the case sometimes
For those who haven't seen it, have the absolute criminal offense that screwed with the story telling of this movie because it is important context.
Tumblr media
Now that we have that whole thing out of the way, let me explain to you how the Chameleon's character is shown through more subtle things instead of just very in your face exposition/ storytelling.
1) Cammy's insecurities
The first time she was in on screen, Cammy was established as being in charge of Juniper City via commanding the local crime lords. She is hidden among them for the first part of their conversation, where she observes them badmouth her before she reveals herself, but even before the reveal, we get hints to her being there via the line "You forgot the shape-shifting sorceress part" that she throws into the conversation after the bear crime lord insulted her appearance.
Despite showing herself as in control and well put together, her need to interject hints at the fact that she does still have some underlying insecurities regarding her true form.
That insecure aspect of her character is further proven by her summoning Tai Lung first (I'll get to that later) and a statement from Viola Davis where she talked about how she did the character voice for Cammy
Tumblr media
The underlying implication that she has internalized when masters told her she was "too small, too lowly and that kung fu wasn't [her] destiny" is proven even more when you take into consideration that she exclusively transforms into species that are larger and more physically powerful than her.
She literally says: "I grew, I excelled, and I got everything I had ever dreamed of." Everything BUT kung fu. The one thing she wanted to do from the very beginning. So, with that context, the "dream" she got fulfilled to a degree was the power. Conventional, physical power.
People have told her kung fu wasn't "her destiny" so she decided to take matters into her own hands and do what she believed to get her to where she wanted to.
To quote the Stephanie Ma Stine, the director who actually cared about her: "Because she has this anger that's been build up from always being invisible to everyone else, her transformation process actually reflects her anger."
All those years of being over looked and seen as less than had such an impact on her that it consumes ever part of her being. That lizard needs a hug and therapy, your honor.
As I said, I wanted to get into why she summoned Tai Lung first (chill I know this was not actually as thought out as I am interpreting it to be but hear me out.)
Tai Lung is everything she isn't and couldn't have been.
He is tall and conventionally powerful. Even if you knew nothing about his character, you could take a look at him and know that man is strong. On top of that, he had received formal training at a renowned school by a renowned master. Taking his kung fu first and foremost is not only the fulfillment of a wish she's had her whole life but also a power move on it's own; while not able to do kung fu Cammy still managed to beat someone who was what the schools she had gone to all those years ago would have considered the ideal student.
Also can we acknowledge how the water dragons (those are not komodo dragons idc how often it's stated) clap for her after she's done with Tai? Show of hands from all the mentally ill people who'd get their henchmen to clap for them too because they desperately need praise 🙋
Similar can be said for how she makes the people of Juniper City bow before her when she is paraded around; it makes her feel powerful.
Lastly I'd like to point out that her line of "Third rule of the streets? [...] Some would say it's the most important. Noone is interested in your feelings." Is probably something she got from people not caring about her feelings back in the day when she tried to pursue her passion.
2) Cammy's knowledge & skill
"Those bonds (the cages) are enchanted with some very old and very powerful magic. You'd need at least 10 Dragon Warrior's to get through them". Not only can she create such strong (presumably) chi based bonds but she can make them in batches and with ease. Between the scene of her accepting tributes from the crime lords of the city and Po's vision about her plan we can see her enchant multiple cages at once.
Not only that but she knows advanced chi techniques as well as how to open portals to the Spirit Realm. That is not easy information to come by Cammy has been researching chi in general for god knows how many years.
I don't know if I have said this on this blog before but her not being redeemed is such a wast because she could have not only helped Po further his mastery in chi but also aid in replacing a lot of the scrolls in the JP since she is knowledgeable on history and the history of kung fu and master too.
You honor that lizard is a nerd and deserves to geek out with Po.
I'd also like to point out that not only is she able to shape shift but do it incredibly swiftly. She can be seen switching forms in a matter of seconds even mid combat. Not only that but she has so much control off her body that she was able to create that dragon from of hers by transforming parts of her into different beings with little to no effort. That forms for incredibly stable too; she only transformed out of it to change her strategy.
Her incredible amount of control over her body funnily enough also shown by her 3d model alone. As stated by Sean Sexton the head of character animation "The Chameleon had 8130 controls. You could move every single part of that character [...]"
Lastly, I need to talk about how she genuinely is like Po.
I've seen people say that she can't do anything on her own because she just steals people's kung fu when no. No that is not the case. After having stolen enough master's kung fu to have a wide knowledge of the craft she was able to mimic and adapt to Po's style without having to steal anything from him. If she wouldn't have been given the opportunity to learn kung fu she would have become like Po and been able to master techniques based on simply observing them.
TLDR: Cammy is a great character this fandom is just horrible to female villains

I got him in June when i started regressing more often for mamas birthday, while mommy made her pretty kitty stuffie at build a bear i made my melon dere! he was a little stiff at first but after needing emergency tummy surgery (mama fixed it!!) and lots of cuddles he’s more soft. I talk to melon a lot when im sad cus he has really friendly face. he tells me lots of nice things when im sad that its okay to cry and feel sad, he reminds that im trying my best even when it doesnt feel like it. Sometimes that makes me mad cus i think im not trying my best and i should be trying harder, but melon says if i should be, i would be. He’s a very smart boy like that, das why i talk to him when i cries and he lets me pet his head. which animals would each character be?
I LOVE THIS QUESTION OMG- let me just 🤔
Ava would be cat, black cat tho (like one of those that look like void), I mean she gives off that magnificent yet chaotic energy of cat... I think it suit her character more than white cat/tiger
Luke would be bear, my first thought was ox tho, but I like bear way more... I don't just mean his build but also his character, he can be very serious but also protective
I think that Sam would be some kind of bird, maybe parrot lol? maybe hyacinth macaw or palm parrot, bot kinda matches his color palette but I can imagine him being some kind of hawk or falcon too
Harry would be weasel (kinda wanna say chameleon, bc he has that reptilian vibe but weasel suits him more) and MJ would be rabbit
Okay and now characters that I'm not so sure about
When it comes to Danny I really wanted to pick something majestic and mystical like white crane, koi fish or even tiger but- he gives off massive golden retriever vibes, he has that warm and charming personality but is also bit naive, like dog... Idk
I think Peter would be some kind of dog too, maybe labrador, german shepherd or border collie? Some smart kind of dog... or maybe monkey??? I don't knooowwww

SPOILERS if you have not seen the episode of course:
We start off the episode with an Amazo Tech blimp crashing into a building in Metropolis
Tumblr media
You don't see a lot of blimps in Metropolis. Gotham is usually the one with a lot of blimps flying around. If you saw the episode on Adult Swim when it premiered on air you'll know that the next episode involved Professor Anthony Ivo and Amazo Tech. Throughout the previous episodes and this one, the Amazo Tech brand is shown to set up next week's episode. After the scene we go to a break in at Stryker's Island (more on that location later) as we see one of the villains for the episode Mist...
Tumblr media
and one of his partners...
Tumblr media
Rough House who are trying to break out...
Tumblr media
Siobhan McDougal. If you know your Superman comics, you'll also know here as Silver Banshee.
Kyle/Mist is a VERY old DC supervillain from the 1940s who first appeared in Adventure Comics #47 (1941) as the arch villain to Starman. Mist's design in the comics is RADICALLY different from the show.
Tumblr media
MAwS modernized Mist's design compared to here in these comics panels (W: Alfred Bester, P&I: Jack Burnley, C: Raymond Perry, L: Betty Bentley). In the comic Mist's power allows him to turn his body into a gaseous form thus the name. MAwS uses Mist as someone who can turn himself and objects invisible (lowkey when Mist showed up I was like "is that Luminus from Superman the Animated Series?") Fun fact in the comic, we don't know what Mist's last name is. All we know is that his name is Kyle and in the show that is what Rough House calls him on accident but at least he has a last name, McDougal in MAwS.
Tumblr media
Rough House makes his first appearance in Adventures of Superman #544 (1997) (W: Karl Kesel, P: Stuart Immonen, I: José Marzán Jr., C: Glenn Whitmore & Digital Chameleon, L: Albert DeGuzman) where we see him rip open a door with his bear hands as a member of Intergang (more on them later).
Tumblr media
Siobhan McDougal aka Silver Banshee makes her first appearance here in Action Comics 595 (cover by John Byrne). In the comics Silver Banshee's powers are a lot different than how MAwS does it. Comics Silver Banshee has the Banshee Curse giving her powers like flight, super strength, a death stare, and of course her signature thing, the Death Wail, a sonic scream that can knock someone into a coma or it outright kills them. The version in the show gives Silver Banshee her signature sound manipulation powers through a mask...
Tumblr media
which kind of invokes her comic counterpart's skull face design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mist and Rough House break into Stryker's Island to free Mist's sister Silver Banshee (in the comics Mist and Silver Banshee have no familial connection). Stryker's Island makes its first appearance in Superman #9 (1987) (W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza) where Joker arrives in Metropolis to challenge Superman. Stryker's Island is supposed to be a stand in for Riker's Island in New York even though there is a Riker's Island in the DC Universe because Metropolis is often a reflection of New York City.
Tumblr media
The next Easter egg is the scene after where Lois name drops Waid's Cafe as a reference to...
Tumblr media
Mark Waid, one the best writers in the comic book industry. In terms of DC work, you might recognize his writing credit on Flash with artist, Brian Augustyn (we miss you Brian), Kingdom Come with painter, Alex Ross, and Superman Birthright with artist, Leinil Yu (highly recommend checking out all three titles). He's also currently writing for Batman/Superman: Worlds Finest with artist Dan Mora, which I also HIGHLY recommend reading. Fantastic writer, super nice person if you ever meet him at a convention.
Later, Jimmy is heard screaming "back you monsters" and we see some more of the Daily Planet staff...
Tumblr media
From left to right its Cat Grant (doing the anime high society lady laugh), who runs the celebrity and gossip side of the paper, Steve Lombard, who reports on sports, and Ronnie Troupe, the investigative journalist on the team. Their names were mentioned in the previous episode after taking Lois, Jimmy, and Clark's credit for the Superman piece.
Tumblr media
Cat Grant make her first appearance here in the Adventures of Superman #424 (1987) (W: Marv Wolfman, P: Jerry Ordway, I: Mike Machlan, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza) as a potential love interest to Clark to shake up the Clark-Lois-Superman dynamic. You might've seen her in the live action CW Supergirl show. Like in MAwS, in the comics Cat does the gossip columns writing for the Daily Planet.
Tumblr media
Steve Lombard makes his first appearance in Superman #264 (1973) (W: Cary Bates, P: Curt Swan, I: Murphy Anderson) as a foil to Clark Kent. Steve acts very brash and rude to contrast Clark's mild manner and friendly demeanor. Later iterations of Steve give him the mustache that becomes part of his signature design.
Tumblr media
In MAwS, Ronnie Troupe is a gender swap of Ron Troupe in the comics who makes his first appearance in the Adventures of Superman #480 (1991) (this page specifically, W: Jerry Ordway, P: Tom Grummett, I: Denis Rodier, C: Glenn Whitmore, L: Albert DeGuzman). Like his MAwS counterpart, Ron is an investigative journalist and very level headed. He was the first to break the story about Cyborg Superman meeting the then PoTUS, Bill Clinton.
Tumblr media
A news report on TV in the Daily Planet shows Bethany Snow of Channel 52 News reporting about the break out in Stryker's Island. The logo for Channel 52 News reminds me very much DC's 2005 logo.
Tumblr media
As for Bethany Snow and Channel 52 News, Bethany made her first appearance in the New Teen Titans #22 (1982) (W: Marv Wolfman, P: George Perez, I: Romeo Tanghal, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Ben Oda) as a news reporter and follower of the Brother Blood cult.
Tumblr media
Later iterations and retcons had Bethany Snow as just a reporter where she does the Channel 52 news in the back end of DC comic titles in 2013.
Tumblr media
Freddie E. Williams II is the artist for these as Channel 52 was way to let readers know what is happening in other DC titles that they might want to check out with other DC characters reporters accompanying Bethany as seen in the promotional art with Vartox, Ambush Bug, and Calendar Man. Obviously MAwS redesigned Bethany Snow but they at least kept her occupation.
Tumblr media
A quick one but we see Lois call Clark "Smallville" a nickname that has been used in various media involving Clark and Lois.
After news report on TV, we cut to Siobhan, Kyle, and Rough House in their hide out where they name drop their group name, Intergang.
Tumblr media
In the comics and other media, Intergang is a world wide crime syndicate who is supplied with powerful high tech weaponry from the evil New Gods of Apocalypse, if you know your DC universe, that is everyone is Darkseid's circle. Intergang first appeared in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #133 (1970) created by LEGENDARY artist Jack Kirby.
Tumblr media
Here in Forever People #1 (1971) (W&P: Jack Kirby, I: Vince Coletta, L: John Costanza), you can see they have direct contact with Darkseid. Originally led by Morgan Edge, later versions of Intergang had leadership change from Joe Danton to Max Danner. Post-crisis, Intergang is led by Bruno Mannheim (the Intergang boss that I am familiar with), his father Moxie Mannheim would later lead Intergang. Current continuity in DC has Bruno still be the leader of Intergang.
In the episode we learn that MAwS version of Intergang is very small time. Siobhan, Kyle, and Rough House rob convenience stores and make smash and grab runs. But maybe MAwS will move Intergang in the criminal syndicate direction in the future who knows.
After the Intergang scene we cut to Lois, Jimmy and Clark walking up to the front of Stryker's and Jimmy mentions something interesting about convincing the warden to spill on the government's... (read Jimmys quote in the screenshot to complete the sentence)
Tumblr media
The term meta-human has its roots in the DC Universe if you did not know! The term was first used here in Invasion #1 (1988) (W: Keith Giffen and Bill Mantlo, P: Todd McFarlane, I: P. Craig Russell, C: Carl Gafford, L: Gaspar Saladino)
Tumblr media
In the comic, the Dominators discover that certain humans have what is known as the meta-gene which grants them powers when under a lot of duress and so to test this they rounded up a group of humans and experimented on them with only 6 surviving who gained powers. The Dominators conclude that the human population must be eliminated or there will be a rise in meta-humans on Earth.
How does the government, according to Jimmy, connect to all this. is a possible nod to one of the plot points in Doomsday Clock where the idea that 90% of DC's meta-humans are from the US and they have been engineered by the government. This conspiracy, in the comic is known as the Superman Theory.
Tumblr media
This here is one part of the back matter you can read at the end of Doomsday Clock # 5 (2018) (W: Geoff Johns, P&I: Gary Frank, C: Brad Anderson, Back Matter Design: Amie Brockway-Metcalf). Later the trio, specifically Lois, steals the warden's ID badge and were able to access where Siobhan was kept. On the ID the warden's name is Agatha Zorbatos, who's first appearance in the comics was in Batman #23.4 (2013), as the warden of Blackgate Penitentiary in Gotham
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously her design in the comic is drastically different from how she looks in the show. The one on your right is from Batman Eternal #4 (2014) (Story: Scott Snyder & James Tynion IV, Script: John Layman, Consulting Writers: Tim Seeley & Ray Fawkes, P: Dustin Nguyen (my favorite comic book artist of all time), I: Derek Fridolfs, C: John Kalisz, L: Rob Leigh).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the climax of the episode we see more of the alien crystal that Superman encountered last episode from the tech that MAwS Intergang used and it strangely looked familiar. I wouldn't be surprised if the animation team were fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion especially with the way the robots were designed in the first part of episode one and here how the crystal reshapes itself like the angel Ramiel. Also since I'm at my 30 image limit here and I can't post anymore, I also want to point out that the poster that Siobhan has in her cell was a cat with the words "Believe it" over its head I like to believe that is a Naruto reference because the dub has Naruto say "believe it" all the time. I guess I'm gonna be doing the Easter Eggs and references for each episode so expect this to be a weekly thing. I hope you all enjoy my doing this If you made it down here and want to see my first two easter eggs and reference posts for episodes one and two are here and here.
