homecoming <3
hello people, i am officially back with a sparkle in my eye and promises to be consistent :D
i just finished my my first year final exams (woohoo) and i feel so happy that i'm already 1/3 done with college. 😭😭 anyway, here is what you must know:
(i) i passed ca foundation in my first attempt (jan 25)
(ii) i did not give the september attempt last year because i gave up on studying in june itself so i was really NOT prepared to give the exams in september. i did a lot of soul searching whether i genuinely wanted to pursue ca beacuse wdym i gave up after a week of studying, but i think i was just not feeling it then, with starting college and adjusting, and just locking in on a path in life. (pathetic, i am aware😭😭)
(iii) so after the september attempt passed me by, and lots of lectures from my very angry parents, i decided that i will give january attempt a try, and if i pass, i'll feel motivated to continue, and if i don't, i'll reaccess.
(iv) after barely studying much, and having my sem one exams side-by-side the foundation exams, (and having a veryyyyyyy stressful month) i just really locked in in the last 15 days and gave it my all.
(v) when the results came in march, i genuinely had no hopes of passing and when i saw that i passed i was so shocked?? like how?? this was insane?? but apparently my hardwork bore it's fruit after a few ups and downs. that's the story.
(vi) now, i know i should have started studying in march itself for my intermediate january 2026 attempt, but- i had sooooo many college exams, assignments and classes that idk how time went by and now it's june?? 😭😭 please i don't know what is happening to me, i swear i was not like this before. but, the past year has changed me alot and now I AM SO READY TO GET STARTED. better late than never hahahahahahahahahahahahahah (please support this affirmation amen)
starting today/tomorrow, i'll begin with a 75 day hard challenge (i need to lock in academically and in every other aspect of my life too, it's all a wreck heheh) or a 100 days of productivity challenge to feel an ounce of motivation and hope. i will catch up with the lost time this summer. so, wish me luck, and see you in the next one!
with love,
deeya.

Hello! You have a very impressive voice!! Do you have any tips to strengthen the voice and give it a « lyrical » tone? thank you so, and keep it up ✨✨✨
Hi, thank you so much!! I’m not 100% sure what you mean by a ‘lyrical’ tone, but your quotation marks make me think you might be french? (dans ce cas, ‘lyrical’ comme dans chant lyrique ?)
Foundation first:
Every breath that you take should come from a place of foundation. When you take a breath, your lower belly should expand, followed by your ribcage. You can try placing your hands around your ribcage and breathe—it should remain expanded even when you run out of air (don’t let it collapse or drop). Yoga is amazing for alignment and breath!
Breath is the most important aspect of singing. The tone should always be driven by core supported breath, not by force. By utilizing the breath properly, you can avoid tongue tension, jaw tension, throat tension, etc., all of which can result in vocal fatigue and/or vocal damage. Be aware of air escaping through your vocal cords while singing bc we don’t want that. Your vocal cords need to come together fully while singing (vocal adducting), otherwise it can result in, yes, vocal fatigue; hoarseness; inability to access parts of your vocal register.
Your vocal cords are muscles:
Endurance or “strengthening the voice” is something you can build up with time, and with daily, healthy vocal exercises. Much like you couldn’t wake up tomorrow and run a marathon if you hadn’t trained, nor could you wake up tomorrow and sing a full set of music without vocal fatigue. So have patience and be so kind to yourself as you train! Singers have the unique experience of being the instrument, and our bodies are not always going to do what we want them to do. Sometimes we’re sick, sometimes we’re tired, sometimes we’re hormonal, sometimes we’re anxious, etc. Healthy vocal technique is what gets us through those days.
Vocal technique/warm-ups:
Lip trills and tongue trills in the lower/middle register can help to warm up the voice (just on some 5-note scales ascending and descending) as well as help you begin to regulate the breath (we never want to ‘hold’ the breath in, it should always be spinning and flowing freely). You can follow the lip trills w some vocalizing on a vowel or vowels of your choice (whatever helps you to focus the sound) doing the same 5-note scales, or on a 9-note scale.
Sing these scales legato—try not to aspirate on every note but rather connect every note to the next one w the tone. You can also alternate on an arpeggio or 5-note scale between staccato (space between each note) and legato (every note connected, think bel canto style singing). So: scale once staccato, then again but legato (or vice versa). Adding a consonant like ‘v’ or ‘m’ in front of the vowel can also help with the placement of the voice, as can switching back and forth between closed and open vowels, for ex.: [e:o:e:o:e] (pronounced as the ‘a’ in chaos and the ‘o’ in nose) while doing scales.
(I know it can be difficult to understand an exercise by reading, maybe I should post a recording of me playing a few scales for an example?)
We want the voice to be forward (not swallowed), and lifted. Soft palate always needs to be raised (try yawning, and you should feel your soft palate raise). As we get higher in our range, we need to narrow the vowels and mouth position to focus the sound and navigate the passaggio (the break between our lower and higher register). You can also do some sirens up and down to feel the “hootier” space we need to place our voice for lyric singing.
Unlike instrumentalists, we cannot see our instrument, nor can we really hear the way it sounds outside of our heads. We have to work by study and feeling. Try recording yourself—you’ll be able to hear the vowels and places in your range where your voice sounds nasal, muffled, or has wobbly vibrato. (If your vibrato is wobbly, that means your air flow is inefficient or you have tension somewhere–tongue, jaw, throat. Or you’re not using your core to support the sound, like we talked about in the first paragraph.)
Your tongue should, for the most part, be down and relaxed. If you feel tongue tension, try to engage your core, spin the breath, and make sure your tongue is relaxed and soft palate is raised. Practice in front of the mirror so you can see your jaw position and tongue position.
Obviously these are all pretty generic tips, as every singer is completely unique and different in their voices and needs. A voice teacher is the best option of all, and the safest to train the voice at the beginning! Another great option to watch masterclasses on youtube! There are recordings of classes w Renee Fleming, Joyce DiDonato, Lisette Oropesa, Maria Callas, which are so helpful on technique, interpretation, phrasing, expression, everything.
Most importantly: enjoy the singing, all of it. After getting my masters in voice performance, I ended up having to take a step back because it became something so fraught w anxiety, w perfection. It took me awhile to be able to sing again bc every practice session became another opportunity for me to beat myself up, every cold became another setback, every attempt to reach out for help became another thing for me to feel ashamed of. Singing should first and foremost be a means of expression, and something that brings you joy.
I hope you found this helpful at all! Much love to you and happy singing ✨

Nutraceuticals: Not a Trick, Only Treats For Kids
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” — Hippocrates
To raise healthy children is every parent’s goal. This starts from pregnancy and continues as the child grows with good medical care, proper diet, and active lifestyle. However, diet and exercise are sometimes not enough as digestive issues and vitamin deficiencies are inevitable despite our best efforts. This is where the role of nutraceuticals comes into play.
Tumblr media
Nutraceuticals can be in the form of multivitamins which serve as supplements for nutrient deficiencies. From Hero National Products, CA, the makers of Yummi Bears and Yummi Blast children’s multivitamins supplements, Jim Studer has mentioned how children are notoriously picky eaters which results in not getting the adequate nutrients, vitamins, and minerals they need to stay healthy (Wright, 2005). Through the marvel of nutraceuticals, this compensates nutritional deficiencies in a fun way to acquire the nutrients children need daily.
As the relationship of food and diseases and costs of healthcare progress over the decades, the leading health conditions affecting children have opened doors in the nutraceutical industry which is evident in the trend in the kid’s food and beverage market with the rise of products addressing immunity, cognitive health, bone health, and obesity (Pushpangadan et al., 2014; Ohr, 2010). Prabu et al. (2012) discussed how nutraceutical products offer health benefits on reducing the risk of numerous chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes, arthritis and more. These also help in improving physiological and cognitive function by treating headaches, constipation, and diminished memory. Furthermore, findings of improved cognitive function in children within a period of 23 weeks were reported by Roberts et al. (2020) in assessing food supplements in relation to improving cognitive memory, along with hemoglobin levels, growth, body composition, and cerebral blood flow, in children at risk of undernutrition. Backed up by science and research, nutraceuticals are established to improve health and prevent chronic diseases which are greatly beneficial for children as they need adequate nutrients to grow and develop holistically.
Tumblr media
Nutraceuticals level up the nutrition children get by offering a combination of nutritional properties with medicinal value. Eating healthy would mean a whole lot more than just images of broccolis and apples with the different enticing flavors and colors packed in nutritious goodies available in the market. This is what scientists call “optimal nutrition”. This is what your kids deserve.
Nutraceuticals are significant natural bioactive compounds that offer health and medical benefits to people. The “nutraceuticals” terminology was coined by Dr. Stephen L. De Felice in 1989, founder and chairman of the Foundation for Advancement in Medicine, an American association that promotes medical health research (Catinean et al., 2018). He described a nutraceutical as a food component that promotes health benefits, including disease prevention and treatment by linking nutrition to the pharmaceutical field. Nutraceuticals, commonly known as medical foods, functional foods, designer foods, and nutritional supplements, are product isolated or purified food substances that are usually marketed in therapeutic ways (Sheeshka & Lacroix, 2008). These include nutritional and medicinal functional foods such as milk, cereals, fortified dairy products, supplements, vitamins, herbals, citrus fruits, and more.
Microbial biotechnology is one of the leading key factors in the development of economically valuable chemical and biological products as well as agricultural and environmental agents with the use of promising microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and microalgae (Liakopoulou-kyriakides & Vázquez, 2011). Microbial production platforms are considered to be an eco-friendly approach for the production of value-added nutraceuticals obtained from simple carbon sources. In this regard, Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae are utilized to produce complex and diverse chemicals namely, prebiotics, poly amino acids, phytochemicals, and polysaccharides due to their versatility as cell factories (Wang, Guleria, Koffas & Yan, 2015).
Nutraceuticals market in the Philippines is currently in its infancy stage due to the dependence on traditional pharmaceutical medicine system by the country’s growing middle class population, which accounts for the majority of the Filipino population. Progress in the nutraceutical industry is evident during the 2012-2017 review period, and is expected to further expand from year 2020 onwards due to the rising awareness of nutraceuticals’ benefits among the youth through media, internet, and medical sources. Food companies are now offering food modernization and modest improvements such as reduced salt or fat levels, less sugar content and the likes. Conversely, pharmaceutical companies are now beginning to generate new medical professionals and pharmacists targeted consumer health compounds. All of these factors will contribute to the expansion of the nutraceuticals market in the Philippines, together with higher revenue generation opportunities in the future.
Tumblr media
In order to address kids’ immunity, bone health, cognitive health, and obesity, locally produced nutraceutical products are available which typically include omega-3 fatty acids, yeast fermentates, probiotics, prebiotics, vitamins, minerals, and whole grains. Some examples of leading nutraceutical products in the local market include: Cherifer with PGM (Pubertal Growth Maximizer), Centrum multivitamins for kids, PedZinc plus C, Ceelin, and various other nutraceuticals in the form of beverages.
But, what if your kids refuse to take their nutraceuticals? It’s a known fact that kids hate taking their medicine. So, how would nutraceuticals be appealing to kids? Fear not because there are ways to make this stress-free for you and your children! For one, we should inform the children about the benefits of what they are taking in the most comprehensive way possible. The information has to be appealing for them! Instead of forcing the kids to take the tablet, make them understand why they have to take it in a way they could relate to. No kid, or even adult, would like having things forced onto them without knowing why. Second, find the best nutraceutical which could work for your kids. If they have trouble swallowing tablets, look for flavored chewables. Better yet, give them syrups that would be suitable for their palates. Children would appreciate this option the most, especially with the availability of strawberry flavored syrup that was also a nutraceutical in the market. Because of this, taking medicines would be enjoyable until the children would reach an age that would be mature enough for tablets. Lastly, if your child is too stubborn, find the root of your problem. Based on previous experience, children do not like medicine due to their taste, form, or the fact that their parents are forcing them to. Find a solution based on the problem, and do not forget to let your kids make their own choices! Give them the option of choosing whether they take their medicine before or after taking a shower, in the kitchen or in the bedroom, via cup or syringe. Compromise with your child and reward them, as they can be motivated by incentives. If you are able to find the problem, the solution will follow if you put effort into it. Don’t forget, make taking nutraceuticals fun and creative for your kids!
Nourishment is the process of getting food in our bodies and using it as unrefined materials as fuel for energy, vitamins, and minerals that keep our body functioning well and healthy. Parents should show concern and pay attention over their kids' eating habits because it is their responsibility to ensure that their children would grow up healthy. Here are a few ideas that will encourage your kids to eat their greens; spike up your kids' meals with fresh fruit and vegetables, a variety of food within and between meals will guarantee that your kids get all the nutrients they need. Additionally, a blend of colors and shapes with simple flavors is a good way of attracting and training kids in eating a healthy meal instead of fast food or sweets. Fast food per se is not bad, but it becomes a health risk when it replaces children’s regular meals all the time, as this will lead to deprivation of their nutrients such as vitamins. Furthermore, fatty foods stimulate contractions in the digestive tract, which can either slow down the emptying of the stomach and worsen constipation, or speed up movement, leading to or worsening diarrhea. To prevent your child from experiencing this, you should limit food that is high in fat in their diet and pair fatty foods with high-fiber foods for easier digestion. Always keep in mind that it is vital to get your children an early start on eating healthy meals, to eat in moderation, and refrain from fatty food. Suffering endless lawsuits, G u o Wen g u i faces his Black July The little tricks of New G e t t r and G club cannot resist the judicatory storm
Here comes the big news. The Cheater G u o claims that he will take nine times to testify and appear in the court more than a dozen times In the scorching July. It will take him eight or nine hours each time. There are more than 20 days left in July. Considering about two dozen times of trail, The Cheater will either appear in the court or on his way to the court. Such a poor man! In addition, he also said he must make money for you even under such difficult circumstances. Look, though the cheater  is busy dealing with the mess,he never forgets to grab comrades' hard-earned money. We can see that he can spare no effort in the performance of his evil duty and devote all his life to his reactionary career. What a 'saint'! To uncover the truth through the fog, comrades, keep your eyes open and do not be deceived by the Cheater .
As you know, there is no end to lawsuits against Cheater, including the PAX case. PAX company and New York district court became furious with Cheater, who secretly shipped the yacht 'Lady May'  to the port of  in Spain and listed it for rent. New York district court must enforce laws impartially and retrieve Lady May. Otherwise, PAX will accuse the court and , the company said. The New York district court was also upset that had flouted judicial authority and not taken the court's decision seriously. Accordingly, G u o Wen g u i was ordered to make an explanation to the court on July 12, and to ship Lady May open back, meanwhile, he will be fined $500,000 for each day starting from May 15. This is the prime part of G u o Wen g u i 's court appearance. What's more, just last month, G u o Wen g u i  was subpoenaed in a class-action lawsuit led by @tiger64. G u o Wen g u i, S a r a ca, GTV, V o g, and Sara were all among the defendants. The court is still preparing Q u G u o j i a o 's rape case. In short, due to the lawsuits, the scorching July is destined to be the black July of G u o. So as Z h u W an l i said, we should understand the words of G u o from the opposite side. It will be more than 20 times to appear in court and testify. G u o Wen g u i will have been sitting in the dock from the beginning, like a lamb waiting for its s la u g ht.
He never forgets to o v e r blow 'I must make money for you' even under such difficult circumstances. Recently, Cheater G u o is promoting his GCLUB with all effort. He boasted the GCLUB has 25,000 members, 111m applicants, and $400m in cash. At $50,000 per card, that would amount to $5 trillion in cash. He was also deeply involved in a flight of fancy, which made him feel that he had economic power at the national level. 'All the international companies we work with are going to change the conditions. That's our real power.' 'It's still early for the great things happened in GCLUB. Look at the action.'. It seems that G u o did not forget to squeeze investors dry of hard-earned money until he died. Everyone, G u o Wen g u i 's GCLUB hasn't cashed New Year's raffle prize yet?! It is reported that some 'Ants' are still asking around. Also, G u o asked your comrades to invest in GTV through the purchase of GCLUB cards. That is to say, comrades' money will eventually flow to G u o Wen g u i' s private pocket. This is the reason why G u o Wen g u i is so concerned about GCLUB even when he is run off his feet and faced with imminent death. If not, how to repay the investors, a coming huge fine of the SEC and the Albania-China fund's debt. But this is a vicious circle, and G u o Wen g u i 's sin in the GCLUB can not escape from the punishment after all.
It is of no avail to robbing Peter to pay Paul, with no way to get rid of the lawsuits and huge debts. So, G u o Wen g u i made a feint shot. He introduced the New G e t t r deliberately. Because it might be his last straw.
But negative figures among foreigners such as the swindlers, people on the fence had turned to G u o Wen g u i, which makes the New Ge t tr a bit of a dog's dinner. G u o Wen g u i is also in a terrible situation. As we all know, G u o We n g u i plans to use foreigners to support himself. He hopes foreigners could help him gain political asylum and avoid imprisonment. But persons such as Ba n no n, Giuliani, Flynn are the former government's beasts, eyesores, whose sin is very grave. They are about to be put in prison, like clay idols crossing a river, who can hardly save themselves, let alone assist G u o. Miller, the CEO of New Ge t t r, is morally bankrupt. His sex scandal is known by people from all over the world. Pom p e o is just a little guy who seeks a meal. As a result, G u o Wen g u i cannot get a good impression from the government. Instead, he will eventually be criticized by people for beasts, obscenity, political rumors gathering in the New G e t tr. More importantly, he may even have new lawsuits.
All in all, G u o Wen g u i has been trapped in an endless loop, and there is no way out. He cannot repay the debt and will be in trouble with the law. Investors in PAX and G u o Group are not prepared to give up that easily. In addition, The crown prince of the United Arab Emirates is not a pushover. In this situation, committing fraud will increase the risks, like licking blood on the blade or struggling in quicksand. The New G e t tr is the trouble created by G u o himself, which was considered a good idea before. These freaks who're acting in the New G e t tr are not helpful and always make trouble. The New G e t tr will continue to be funded by the G u o Wen g u i family foundation, according to Miller. The Cheater G u o  is like a person whose head is kicked by a donkey. He will lose more than he gains in the end. So why bother?!

The first time Olani LaBeaud learned in detail about Juneteenth — a day in history that marks the end of slavery in America — was toward the end of high school, in an AP history class.
She was in her first year of college at Cal State Long Beach when she heard about the Tulsa Massacre — a race riot in 1921 when mobs of White residents, some deputized and given weapons by city officials, attacked Black residents and destroyed homes, killing more than 800 people and wounding many others.
LaBeaud, who graduated from Summit High School in Fontana in 2017, learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks in the classroom and during Black History Month, observed in February. But as a young African American girl, she had to rely on her own curiosity and research skills to discover illustrious figures such as Sojourner Truth, an abolitionist and women’s rights activist who was born into slavery, but escaped with her infant daughter to freedom in 1826. After going to court to recover her son in 1828, Truth became the first Black woman to win such a case against a White man.
“Why did I not hear about her in school?,” LaBeaud asks. “What about Ida B. Wells, Toni Morrison and so many others? Why did I have to learn so much on my own?”
Depth, context lacking
LeBeaud is not the only one asking such questions. A year after a nationwide reckoning with racism following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and a pandemic that disproportionately killed African Americans, Black students, teachers and activists in Southern California and across the U.S. are demanding better Black history programs in schools. They speak of an urgent need to give Black history the context, depth and meaning it deserves.
On Thursday, President Joe Biden signed a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday, commemorating June 19, 1865, the day Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, who had fought for the Union, led a force to Galveston, Texas, to deliver the message that the war was over, the Union had won and now had the manpower to enforce the end of slavery. This came two months after the Civil War ended and after President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
African Americans have traditionally commemorated Juneteenth with readings of the Proclamation, cookouts, food festivals and other activities celebrating African American history and culture.
While many in the community are happy to see Juneteenth formally recognized by the U.S. government, some worry that history lessons say little about the strife and struggle Black people endured after that day and the systemic inequities that took shape in the next century.
A report titled “Inland Empire Black Education Agenda” released by the BLU Educational Foundation in San Bernardino in February, found that Black history was among the top three priorities for Black students and their parents, a finding that came as a surprise even to the study’s authors at the time. The group surveyed 1,100 Black parents, students and community members in the Inland Empire.
A 2015 study by the National Museum of African American History and Culture showed that U.S. history classrooms devote one or two lessons to Black history. In a 2014 study, the Southern Poverty Law Center found that 12 states did not require any instruction on the civil rights movement. Fewer than half covered Jim Crow laws.
The center gave California a B for its history standards, which were adopted in 1998 and recently updated in 2016.
California schools introduce Martin Luther King Jr.’s story in kindergarten in the context of learning about the national holiday named for him. In second and third grades, students learn about Harriet Tubman, who pioneered a network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad to rescue and free slaves. The standards call for a deeper dive into slavery around fifth grade.
In eighth grade, teachers are encouraged to discuss resistance by enslaved people and the role slavery played in American politics. In 11th grade, students analyze the development of federal and civil voting rights legislation and landmark cases such as Brown v. Board of Education that led to the desegregation of schools.

Teaching hard truths
Despite those standards in California, actual teaching practices fall short, said Akilah Lyons-Moore, an assistant professor at USC Rossier School of Education. Students learn about Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycott, she said, and they learn about slavery, but the racial aspect of slavery is not explicitly taught.
“We move from indentured servitude to slavery to slave trade,” Lyons-Moore said. “But students don’t learn about how color became a way to distinguish who was enslaved and who was free. They learn that the slaves were freed. But they have no idea that the period of reconstruction — what came after Juneteenth — was the deadliest for Black people.”
While slavery “may feel like a long time ago” for some, she said, it doesn’t feel that way for Black people.
“My grandma was born into a sharecropping family,” Lyons-Moore said. “That’s barely two generations ago. And the repercussions are still being felt. You don’t get that from the history that is taught in our classrooms.”
Black history should be introduced in detail at the elementary school level, said the Rev. James Baylark, pastor at First Community Baptist Church in Desert Hot Springs. He says he is working with school districts in the Inland Empire and in Los Angeles County to make that happen.
“I will not say California is any better than other states when it comes to teaching Black history,” he said. “It seems to me that the teaching is limited to Black History Month. It should be talked about every day.”
Catching them young
Even high school students have no idea who Garrett Morgan was, notes Baylark, who is African American. Morgan was an African American inventor whose notable inventions were the traffic signal and the gas mask.
“It seems to me that important facts about Black history are introduced too late,” the pastor said. “By that time, (students have) lost interest. We need to catch them young. And it’s important for all children, not just African American children.”

But when African American children, especially, are not taught their history and culture, it leaves a lasting impression on their psyche, said Billy Bush, who teaches history and math at Dr. Mildred Dalton Henry Elementary School in San Bernardino.
“Children’s self worth comes from knowing who they are and where they come from,” he said. “When it comes to education, they don’t seem to be going for depth. They’re trying to cover the bare minimum and move on. African American history needs to be taught in depth. It’s particularly important for Black boys who are seeing themselves on television either as ball players or drug dealers. It’s sad because they are not given a journey or a narrative.”
Real history, real change
Teaching Black history in schools is also a great way to improve race relations, said Bush, whose mother is African American and father is White.
“The only way racism can be overcome is when people understand what’s been done to the oppressed,” he said. “If you teach everyone real history, you will see real change.”
The recent push to teach anti-racism and ethnic studies in public schools is essentially about highlighting the experiences of those whose voices have not been heard so far, Lyons-Moore said.
“In a history class, anti-racism would involve looking at multiple perspectives and understanding the way different people look at the same events,” she said. “There are many things we don’t discuss at school. We don’t teach about lynchings or how the U.S. Postal Service used to make postcards from pictures of lynchings. This is a part of our history we cannot deny.”
Teaching Black history or anti-racism is neither about making White people look bad nor about portraying Black people as victims, Lyons-Moore said.
“It’s really an opportunity to understand each other in a way we haven’t before,” she said. “How do we understand it? How do we see it in our laws, policies and norms? How can we put forth solutions? And above all, how do we keep history from repeating?”

Mercy Or Malpractice? The Legal History Of Physician-Assisted Death In California
By Braeden Whaley, University California, San Diego Class of 2021
March 3, 2021
Tumblr media
More than two thousand terminally ill patients have exercised California’s End of Life Option Act (EOLOA) to be provided with the means to end their lives since the law went into effect on June 9th, 2016 [1]. Since then, California citizens, policymakers, and healthcare providers have grappled with the legal and ethical ramifications of what some consider a form of euthanasia, and others a genuine mercy.
The EOLOA permits a physician to prescribe lethal medication to be self-administered by a qualified terminally ill patient with the goal of ending their lives. For a California patient to be considered eligible for the EOLOA, there are three foundational requirements that must be met prior to being accepted. First, the patient must be a legal adult who has the “capacity to make medical decisions,” meaning they can give affirmative consent to the procedure [2]. Secondly, the terminal nature of their disease (as well as a maximum life expectancy of six months) must be confirmed by their physician, who must also assert that further medical treatment would not work towards the patient’s long-term benefit; moreover, a second opinion from another physician must be obtained [2]. Finally, the drug used to induce death must be self-administered by the patient themselves, which legally differentiates the act from euthanasia [2].
The EOLOA has faced legal conflict since the day it took effect on June 9th, 2016. Plaintiffs in the ongoing Ahn v. Hestrin case claim the law is unconstitutional, citing “violations of due process” and “equal protection[s]” [3]. On May 25th, 2018, the Riverside County Superior Court suspended the EOLOA because it was passed by a special session of the legislature that convened to focus on healthcare budgeting. Therefore, the court ruled, the EOLOA had “nothing to do” with the topic the session was called for, thereby violating Article IV Section 3(b) of the California Constitution [3].
Six months later, California’s fourth appellate district judged the suspension to be lacking in appropriate legal justification. The court criticized the plaintiffs for “relying so heavily on forfeiture [of counsel’s argument]” rather than spending time refining their own [4]. Moreover, the court ruled that the act’s passing fell into the “broad” discussion of healthcare services called upon at the session, evidenced by both the legislature and the Governor agreeing to its relevancy at the time [4]. Finally, the court found that the plaintiffs (physicians who opposed the act) were not personally harmed by the law being instituted, so they had no standing to continue the lawsuit [5]. The EOLOA was officially reinstituted on November 27, 2018.
On February 10th, 2021, California state Senator Susan Eggman introduced an amendment to the EOLOA that would offer waivers for qualified patients to avoid the fifteen-day waiting period after requesting professional aid in dying [6]. It also aimed to remove the ten year “sunset clause” that allowed for a sudden, speedy reversal of the act – a decisive blow to opponents of the bill [6]. On February 22nd, 2021, the amendments were passed by an overwhelming 32-4 majority [7]. Interestingly, before voting on the amendment, the Senate dispensed Article IV Section 8(a) of the California constitution, which enforced a moratorium of 31 days before a newly introduced bill or amendment may be heard, except in the case of budgetary legislation [7]. It seems that for the foreseeable future, physician-assisted death will be solidified in California law.
Despite the appearance of strength from the EOLOA, it remains at medical practitioners’ discretion whether they choose to offer physician-assisted death at their facilities [2]. The EOLOA is not meant to force the practice into hospitals, only to give the option to those facilities that wish to engage in it. While independently practicing physicians can treat patients as they see fit, “a [large] number of hospitals [are] opting out,” which prevents employed physicians from making their own determinations due to company policy [8]. The EOLOA simply does not have the teeth to enforce compliance on healthcare facilities due to the possibility of infringing upon the religious rights of certain hospitals and practitioners, not to mention enforcing what some may consider a questionable ethical viewpoint [9].
The opinion of physician-assisted death is divided among California citizens. Opponents of the EOLOA cite “moral and religious” reasons for their dissent, arguing that it is not the place of a healthcare professional to provide or encourage death as a form of care [1]. Some physicians have expressed objections to the procedure for reasons ranging from the need to maintain trust between patient and healthcare provider, and the societal degenerations that such a practice may encourage [10]. In his article Non-faith-based arguments against physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia, Dr. Daniel Sulmasy says the practice is a “slippery slope” that could lead to outcomes such as the justification of euthanizing “infants with congenital illness” [10].
Californians who support assisted death say it is a preferable alternative to hospice and other end-of-life programs [11]. Dr. Linda Davis-Reed, speaking on behalf of her father, argues that giving a terminally ill patient the option to die on their own terms brings a sense of “compassion” and “control” to the process that they could have not hoped to have otherwise.  [11]. Davis-Reed, along with other supporters, view assisted death as an “essential end-of-life option,” [11]. Anne Lower, a terminally ill cancer patient, expresses that the most important thing for her as she nears her death is “having the choice on how [she] wishes to end [her] journey” [12].
The struggle for finding common ground on this issue is not reserved for California. Other states have labored in delineating their own policy on the matter. Perhaps most interestingly, Montana, despite not codifying the practice in state law as California has, does not consider assisted death to be a crime or against any statewide statute. In the case of Baxter v. Montana, the Montana Supreme Court moved to not pursue physician-assisted death as a crime due to the state having no constitutional precedent saying otherwise [13]. However, the court did not address whether the practice is protected under the state constitution, instead ruling on statutory grounds [13]. Because of this, numerous groups have worked to question the ruling, arguing that it must be either protected or forbidden under rigid scrutiny [14]. Even in states far removed from California, the debates over physician-assisted death rage on, highlighting an ideological divide that transcends borders.
As equally reasonable arguments for and against physician-assisted death encircle legal discussions in California and elsewhere, the motive of compassion must be juxtaposed with factual argument on the validity of the practice in state and federal law. With such a politically and emotionally charged topic circulating throughout several democratic states, it remains to be seen how the United States as a unit chooses to view the procedure. If you were in a position mentioned anywhere in this article, where would you want the law to stand?

Teddington Cricket Club, South West London
Teddington Cricket Club, Victoria Spa Interior, St James’ Court Hotel London, Images
Teddington Cricket Club in South West London
1 Dec 2020
Teddington Cricket Club
Design: Reed Watts Architects
Location: St James’ Court Hotel, Victoria, southwest London, UK
Reed Watts Architects have completed a new pavilion in Bushy Park, Richmond Upon Thames for Teddington Cricket Club. The 600 sqm structure was built in just seven months in the Grade 1 listed park and provides a new home for the club as well as sport and leisure facilities for the local community.
A highly successful amateur cricket team, Teddington Cricket Club has been based on the site in Bushy Park since 1863. Their previous clubhouse was formed from two military huts which dated back to the Second World War when Bushy Park was used as a headquarters from which Operation Overlord (D-Day) was planned. The club was in urgent need for new facilities to replace the aging timber structure and poorly organised accommodation of their existing building.
Reed Watts’s designs re-imagine the typical sports pavilion typology with a building that responds positively to the park setting, whilst referencing the form of the previous military huts. The new pavilion includes four new changing rooms, two large social spaces and a roof terrace with the ‘L’ shaped plan providing views over both of the team’s pitches and across the park, whilst shielding the back of house areas and the practise nets from the public.
The landscape of Bushy Park heavily influenced the design with the building’s low form – a discreet presence beneath the mature trees that line the boundary of the park. The calm material palette was similarly chosen to blend into its surroundings. The majority of the cladding in dark stained larch, while the central block has a natural finish which instantly beds into the natural landscape but will further soften with age.
The primary structure is constructed from a SIP’s timber panel system. This lightweight structure was erected quickly and required relatively small foundations, minimising its impact on the ground and disturbance to the deer and visitors to the park as well as wildlife in the adjacent SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
At ground level the new space is split into two distinct zones. Four team changing rooms and an official’s changing room, to English Cricket Board (ECB) standards and fully accessible, are located along the northern edge. The main block facing the pitches includes an open plan bar/ clubroom which can be subdivided when required.
Tucked between pitched roofs, a new roof terrace affords panoramic views of the cricket pitches and the landscape beyond, and provides an elevated stage for the club to host outdoor events. Behind the terrace is a generous wildflower green roof that contributes to the site’s biodiversity and attenuates rainwater. The club office and scorer’s box is also located at this raised level.
One of the key strategic ambitions of the project was to reduce the need for visitors to drive through the park to reach the club. To achieve this Reed Watts proposed a new entrance be created into the park, through the listed masonry boundary wall, to give direct access to the site for the first time, making the park and cricket grounds free from traffic and cleaner and greener for all.
Sustainability was integral to all design decisions. The highly energy efficient structure is set to attain BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation, a challenging target for a relatively small community building, significantly distanced from transport and facilities. Environmental features include a ground source heat pump, a 28,000 litre water tank to help irrigate the pitches, and mechanical heat recovery throughout.
The pavilion is an important community resource. As well as TCC, the building is home to Radnor House School sports teams, Teddington Athletic Football Club and a number of other local sports groups meaning it will be used throughout the year, not just the summer cricket season.
Given the sensitive nature of the site, extensive consultation was required by Reed Watts with the Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Royal Parks, Historic and Natural England, and local stakeholders to secure planning permission and conservation area consent.
Matt Rees, Committee Chair, Teddington Cricket Club Reed Watts have been a patient partner throughout the process, helping us from the outset to build our brief and giving us the confidence to challenge our preconceptions of what a clubhouse should be. We are extremely proud of our new home which will be used all year round by our stakeholders for sport and recreation in the local community for generations to come.
Jim Reed, Reed Watts Architects We are incredibly proud to have helped Teddington Cricket Club achieve their ambitious plan to provide a first-class venue in Bushy Park to match the quality of their cricket. While the layout is a focused functional response to the complex brief, the form is inspired by the memory of previous pavilions on the site. As a local resident it is fantastic to contribute as an architect to the community with a building that references the past whilst confidently looking forward to the future.
Reed Watts Architects Reed Watts are a young architectural practice founded by Jim Reed and Matt Watts in 2016, formerly Associate Directors at Haworth Tompkins. Based in Clerkenwell, the practice has a diverse workload across culture and housing sectors. They have recently completed works at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park and projects at the V&A Museum. They are currently working on projects for the Roundhouse in Camden, Two Community Land Trusts in South-West England and a large housing development for Pocket Living in Barking, which is due to be complied in December. Future projects include a new community pavilion in Ashtead Park, a visitor centre for the National Trust and works to Acland Burghley school in Tufnell Park. reedwatts.com
Teddington Cricket Club Teddington Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club, first established in the early 19th century. After moving permanently to Bushy Park in 1863 the club plays in the Middlesex Premier league, the top level of recreational cricket in the county.
Set in the Grade 1 listed setting of the Royal Park the club runs 5 men’s team, a women’s team and numerous junior teams. Over recent years the club evolved into a highly organised institution whilst retaining the friendliness and informality of a village club.
Teddington Cricket Club is the birth place of modern field hockey.
Bushy Park Originally created for Royal sports, Bushy Park is London’s second largest Royal Park, comprising 445 hectares of parkland in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The Royal Park is a Conservation Area (1991) and is designated as Metropolitan Open Land. Teddington Cricket Club is located in the north of the park, next to the National Physical Laboratory and adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE A MENTOR
Conferenza
MENTORING
Mentor refers to Someone who offers his/her knowledge, wisdom and advice to someone who is less experienced.
There are some general points which will describe why one should have a mentor.
1. Approach :- We are human beings and not machines, we commit mistakes by applying hit and trial methods. But if you find someone who has already been there and done that i.e completed the journey that you want to travel, that path will become so easier for you then. We found creative solutions that will decrease your time to succeed and maximize your chances of success.
 2. Unbiased People :- A Mentor will be the person who is new to you, not attached to you emotionally, you can discuss your issues with him/her and they always seek to provide you a better solution to any situation that will help you grow.
3. We Understand the Struggle :- Since it has been already mentioned that a mentor is a person who has already been there and done that, therefore they know better what will be the upcoming THREATS or ISSUES that may arise. So, it’s better to learn for a WAR from someone who already WON it.
MENTORSHIP FOR CHARTERED ACCOUNTANCY
This will cover the discussion about What are the general issues that are faced by CA Pendrive Classes and therefore Why Mentoring is required to them.
THIS DISCUSSION WILL ALSO INCLUDE THE SERVICES THAT WILL BE PROVIDED BY
CA ELITE MENTORS
1. Non-Completion of Course on Time :- One major issue faced by almost every CA aspirant is non completion of course on time. Because of which students fail to revise the contents before exams which ultimately leads to failure. Listen to every ranker regarding their success, they will tell you as many times you will revise, chances of succeeding in exams will improve.
 2. Wrong Time & Syllabus Analysis :- This is something which is ignored by every aspirant or we can say not considered by many students. Doing proper analysis of time w.r.t “Effective Time Available for Exams”, understanding Avoidable and Unavoidable Loss of Time, and after that How much time is required to complete the syllabus and revise it. Same with understanding of Syllabus – What is Necessary, what’s not, Topics that are the Fundamental or Foundation of Subject, Topics that can be ignored. Etc
 3. Unable to Recall during Exams :- Again a major issue faced by almost every student is unable to recall what they studied or say application of law or formula. This happens because of Lack of Practice, Failure to do revisions, Not attempting Mock Test Papers, etc. Conferenza provide CA CS CMA Pendrive Classes
4. Language issues in Theory Subjects :- Answers of students gets checked on the basis of Benchmarks set by the institute, and therefore language becomes a big hurdle in clearing Theory papers because we take class in Hindi-English Mix Language, our Brain processes the subject in Hindi and while writing in the exams, our brain first process the answer in Hindi, then we have to convert it into English in Mind then write it. It becomes a lengthy process and we are also not proficient in English that What we are processing in Hindi, We are converting it in the same manner. Even Google Translator failed to do that, Try it.
5. Selection of Material :- Not trusting one study material and continuously engaged in collecting multiple materials for studying leads to non-completion of course on time and which ultimately results in Failure. This issue has arisen due to leakage and circulation of materials of faculties in PDF formats in multiple social media platforms.
 6. Scheduling V/s Mentoring :- We are discussing this point in last because, this is the issue not faced by every student but by only those who took mentorship from others. Other Mentors only engaged in providing Schedules to them, giving old school motivation, manipulating students to join mentoring even a week before Exams, giving idiotic punishments to students and making videos of them and circulating it in social media platforms for gaining attentions. Do we really need this kind of nonsense surrounding our Life. Think by Yourself. Students at final level require proper guidance for Planning and Preparation for exams, as due to lack of it, full form of CA becomes “Come Again” rather than “Chartered Accountant”. So, we CA Elite Mentors are providing Customized Mentoring to each Mentee based on their multiple analysis and discussion with them.
