may i ask what you meant by r/otherkin being gatekept? I dont have reddit so i am curious
In general, it's a pretty open and supportive community, and the majority of beings I met there were very kind.
However, there's one individual on the subreddit who has been quite negative and controlling over the community. Me and several of my other friends have noticed this behavior and condemn it.
One day, I decided to put together a little self-appreciation slideshow for my kintype. If you know anything about me, you're probably aware that I have a pretty rough past and present, so I figured this would be a time to shed light on the positivity I do have. Both me and my people want to talk about the good parts of the CAR that the media/news doesn't show you, so I did just that.
Well, as you might have guessed, this person (who is NOT placekin) wasn't on board with the idea. They first said that I was being controversial, which I could understand. After I explained my intentions to them, they still weren't accepting. They said that my identity was (and I quote) "a bit too apache attack helicopter to be believable".
I felt pretty upset for the rest of the day, but for that one person who was against me, I had 15 more that were on my side. I'm very lucky for the support system I do have as a placekin :)

hi!! i was wondering if you could explain the concept of placekin a bit more! as an alterhuman myself i want to open myself to as many identities as possible so i can show respect and support for everyone! if you could explain a bit about what it is i’d really appreciate it!! :33
Of course! Tysm for asking and being so open-minded!
This is a long one, so sorry if my response took a while! I tried to be as in-detail as possible.
Placekin (also known as locationkin) is a subdivision of otherkinity/alterhumanity where one identifies as a place.
The place someone identifies as might be here in our physical world or universe, or it might be a fictional, conceptual, or spiritual place.
Some "common" examples I've seen are countries, states, and places from video games!
The place might not have a definite name or boarder, either. For example, it might be a biome, landform, body of water, void, space, or coordinate.
There are many more examples of places one might identify as, but as long as they feel like their kintype would fall under the "placekin" label, then they may choose to use it!
As for what it's like to be placekin, there is no one way to experience this identity. Placekins might have shifts or experience sentience with their kin, while others may not.
You can think of it on a similar level to conceptkin and objectkin, and placekin might also choose to identify under one of these labels as well!
As for myself, I've had one mental shift before, but it was of my heart-type, the D.R.C.. (Yes, places can count as otherhearted too!)
During this shift, I felt like everything around me was the size of a mountain, even bigger than that. My consciousness was somewhere "in the sky" (aka the air above me), while my body was the land.
As I said before, places can be heart-types too, and this could fall under the placekin umbrella, if you think about it as a general term to describe those whose identity (or part of their identity) is surrounded by a place.
Other terms in this umbrella might include placelink (choosing to identify as a place), heart homes (a place that one sees as their true home), and hiraeths (an unreachable place that one longs for).
Of course, you don't have to identify under the placekin umbrella (or alterhuman/nonhuman at all, for that matter) to have one of these as part of your identity. A mainstream human might have a heart-home or a hiraeth, as well.
That's all for this post, but of you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I hope this was a helpful resource for you :)

I just wanna thank you all again for the support today, whether it was just by liking or reblogging, commenting and interacting, following me, sending in an ask or request, or making a full-on moodboard for me out of pure kindness!
I have had an incredibly hard day with my anxiety over having a constant extremely sore throat, but all of your support helped to guide me through it. I thought I wasn't gonna be able to sleep tonight because of it, but with all the continued support and interactions today, I finally feel soothed enough to try.
I started this blog to spread awareness about placekin, and it seems like I've done just that. I'll rest easy knowing that all of you little gremlins on my phone found something of value in me or this blog today.
Again, tysm for being here with me today. You're always welcome on my side of Ubangi <3

I think I saw you on Reddit once I just know I saw a CAR placement on Reddit one time lol
That would be me lol, good find!
I used reddit pretty consistently before I moved to tumblr and posted about it a lot on there.
Lets just say the r/otherkin subreddit was being gatekeeped by a certian individual, so I felt safe in other spaces, like on here!
It's funny to see how people are starting to come to me and recognize me, maybe even as a voice for placekin. It's very heartwarming :)

My first official board request!! Yayayayay tysm!! :D
Stimboard for:
A questioning Science and Natural History museum placekin / heart-homed friend!
Requested by: @coyotecrash !!

Description: A stimboard, featuring Sue the T-rex from the Field Museum of Chicago in the middle square. Each corner contains Science and Natural History museums, and each orthogonal square includes science and nature themed stims!
I hope you like the stimboard!
I apologize for the black boxes around the image in the bottom left-hand corner. I keep every image at a 1:1 ratio, but I felt the whole image was necessary in this scenario!
Again, tysm for this request!! I had fun doing it :D

Hey! I am most likely one of the China placekins you've heard before. I reached out on Reddit but I'm pretty sure r/otherkin restricts new users or something. I was so excited to finally know of someone who is both a country AND objectum for another country!!
Excuse some awkwardness here and there. I just wanna rant about being countrykin. It's so awesome to meet you CAR!
I am personally objectum for the USA (she/xe/purr/it) and I introduced my bf to that as well (we're both otherkin.) We wish you and The Gambia the absolute best! The post with the hearts you made with her is my fave.
I have some very strong thoughts on the controversy of being countrykin/placekin, especially since I believe my alterhumanity originates from trauma (not copinglink though) and being China gives me so much strength, physical and mental, and the power inherent of being a giant physical and conceptual entity is so freeing.
It's one thing to be connected specifically to countries/concepts specifically connected to one brutal regime/etc., but as an Asian guy with Chinese descent, it just feels gross and even racist to an extent. I am so much more than my government. I am the mountains that touch the sky, the rivers of life that color the soil yellow, the love and hearts of a billion people, the endurance of a long history, the strength of my flora and fauna. Same with being the CAR. There will always be issues within a place that exists in our physical reality. But we are more than the sum of our parts.
I am just so glad to have another countrykin here. It feels really isolating sometimes. Especially when my kin has affected my identity so much, including my chosen name down to my favorite colors and how I choose to curate my room.
So I am here to say... Please. PLEASE talk, discuss, ramble, vent, rant more about being the CAR. You are awesome. I connect with it so much.
Love from China 🇨🇳 ❤ 🇨🇫
Hey! So, as it turns out, I didn't meet 2 China placekins, and it's just a coincidence that we've found each other twice on the expanse of the internet! You're the only one lol. Also, I do remember you from reddit :3
I've actually talked to Gold before and he mentioned you. He and said that you might have talked to me in the past, so I'm glad we could meet again! I was super excited when I saw you in my notes :)
Thank you so much for the kind words towards me and The Gambia!! We're doing well and appreciate your wishes :) I wish the same for you and the USA and whatever other objects/things you and Tank are loving on ^^
I feel the same way about the whole placekin controversy thing and I couldn't have said it better myself. While man-made things are important to mankind, we are so much more than that. My identity is not human and has nothing to do with being human. I am a place who's human aspects are ran by humans, but that is only one part of me. There are many, many non-human aspects that make me...me. All of my life and non-life share me, a nonhuman entity.
I will continue to speak for myself and other placekin: that's why I made this blog! I couldn't find any other (active) placekin accounts that spoke out about us. Our community was in the shadows and pretty much unknown to the world, so someone had to be a voice for us. Not to from egotistical, but this blog brought placekin together, educated others on who we are, and even allowed others to discover that they were placekin themselves. I'm here to tell the world that we're here.
Happy to meet with you again, China.
Much love 🇨🇫 ❤ 🇨🇳 /p

My favorite thing to do as a country placekin who's also hyperfixated on country geography is to look at data maps. Ones where countries are color-coded depending on what data criteria applies to them. I always zoom into myself immediately and see what weird facts people are sharing about me :3

TW for implied death and decomposition
Physically nonhuman, but in the way that my body will remerge with my own soil one day.
In the way that when I finally reach my physical location on this earth, I'll finally be whole again. Kind of like the last puzzle piece fitting in.
In the way that I will be part of the earth, the water, the trees and plants and air, the animals and creatures and life, and my soul all again.
In this body, I'm kind of like a fragment of my consciousness. Picked away from my skies and put into a human body where I can't watch over them anymore.
But I'll be back some day. Whether it be through my scattered ashes or my organic presence in the rains, I'll be me again. I'll be their home again.

Kinda curious what a "societally controversial placekin" would be? Like, North Korea or something? Not looking to cause Discourse just not sure what that means
No problem, you aren't causing any discourse!
That is pretty much what I meant: any place that might raise a red flag to the average person. Places like North Korea, Russia, Soviet Union (pretty sure actually have met a Soviet Union kin before), Saudi Arabia, etc.
Even outside of that, I've been called controversial myself because I am kin of a place that is:
A: In Africa
B: Amidst a civil war
And
C: Has real political history
Even though the majority of people probably have no idea that the Central African Republic exists, I can be considered controversial, even by other alterhumans.
The state of my own (and others) political and humanitary situation are, of course, extremely important and integral since it affects real people, but at the same time, it does not define me nor my people. I reccomend checking out this website ran by a Central African woman named Charlotte for an inside perspective:
I think we should have a perspective like this one for every place. There are always good and bads, sometimes the bads being drastic, but our people are always able to see the good, even if it's small.
