i would much rather have a cohesive outfit vs a super elaborate one for the sake of being elaborate.

both yunli and jiaoqiu have outfits that fit their themes and roles - yunli's has roots in actual tang dynasty dancer designs and jiaoqiu's clothing being more uniform-esque given his position as an actual counselor makes sense. i do see the point that they're both five stars but also, i think hsr designs for both 4 and 5 stars have had similar levels of care and design so the distinction between the two - at least design wise (and tbh sometimes kit wise) is much smaller than most other games.

just as a disclaimer, shiv is my #2 fave so this post isn’t meant to be a hate post towards her: 

it’s really astounding to see how people use the characters’ morals as a metric for who deserves to “win” this show. practically all of them profit off of the suffering of others. some might be kinder and have more favorable politics than others, but these are not good people lol. and you also aren’t a bad person for liking these messed up characters. 

i see this brought up in regards to shiv’s “conservative hick” comment at tom and i saw some celebrating her saying he deserved to be called out for his work at ATN, and then there some other comment implying how shiv has been fighting the whole show opposing the right-wing rhetoric which is so....lol. yes, shiv is against mencken and worked with eavis, but she is still a willing participant in waystar’s rhetoric (like anyone else in the show). she manipulated a victim out of speaking against sex crimes and she still wants high power in the company that owns the network she basically insulted tom for working for. shiv might have some better political leanings, but when it comes down to it, she will chase the money. 

i think fandom brain has deluded our ability to be honest about characters. you can just like a morally flawed character knowing they’re flawed because that character is interesting. shiv and tom both have their own contributions to the mess of american to different degrees and acting like either of them aren’t culpable is a joke.
