so basically Istanbul just means “the city” in the local dialect (from what I understand) and was the endonym while Constantinople was the exonym. It was renamed to Istanbul in 1930, which is kinda like New York City getting officially renamed to the big apple or the big city (not really but that’s what helps me picture it lol)
