a 6 round game of star wars armada. I was commanding a rebel grab bag flying 3 new ships, the mc80, the rebel version of the providence class, and my beloved little mc30, plus admiral akbar on the corvette. I managed to secure a narrow victory against a 6 ship Republic list (those little councilor class ships can pack a punch, especially when there's 3 of them flying around). we also used some of my recently 3d printed obstacles, we had one astroid field and one debris field, and I'll hopefully have a completed set soon
my mc30 was just as amazing as I thought it would be, even if I mispiloted a little. I deployed a little too close, so I had to swing the mc30 wide to the right turn 1 to avoid a collision. I would've wanted it to get to the action sooner and get some better shots in, but having it go wide actually won me the game. I managed to pick off a few small ships early on, but my providence went down turn 3 before getting to activate, and the mc80 went down a few turns later, but it managed to tear into both the victory and acclimator while it was still space worthy. on the last turn, the mc30 swooped behind the acclimator and victory, getting two beautiful close range shots into both of them, taking them both down before evading a hail of fire from the enemy flagship pelta. in the end, had the mc30 had one hull point left, exhausting the last of its defenses to barely hang on, but hang on it did. anakin was no match for akbar, but he put up a good fight. mc30 was definitely the MVP, I want two more of them.

Here's the main problems with Andor as I see them:
It's a character show. It was advertised as perhaps showing the formation of the Rebellion but so far, it hasn't done that. It focuses primarily on Cassian Andor, who (as of yet) is not a "Rebellion spy" as the summary puts it and is more of a guy just running around completing side quests. In this way, it's essentially Solo (but better than Solo; it's not that bad).
The "formation of the Rebellion" as shown through Mon Mothma's POV ignores everything shown of the Rebellion's formation in Rebels. Episodes 1-3 of Andor Season 2 take place in 4 BBY -- the same year that Phoenix Cell reveals itself and destroys the ISD Sovereign over Mustafar. Major battle by Bail Organa's privately-funded rebel cell, and yet no mention of it, no acknowledgment of this major rebel victory, especially so early on. If Andor is supposed to portray the "grassroots campaign" to organize the Rebellion, how is it that Commander Sato (in the same time and also financed by a Senator) raised a fleet of three CR90 corvettes, one Pelta-class command frigate, and a squadron of A-wings? Andor makes it seem like Mon Mothma's doing everything she can, and yet all she has to show for it so far is financing the Aldhani raid and stealing the TIE Avenger.
As an add-on to the previous point, there are no other major Rebellion leaders. No Bail Organa, not even any of the other Senators shown in Rogue One. Tynnra Pamlo is even more pacifistic than Mothma and yet she's not shown anywhere either. There's no General Dodonna of Massasi Group, no Commander Sato of Phoenix Cell, nothing. From what Andor's looking like, It's as if the entire military force of the Rebel Alliance popped into existence in 3-2 BBY.
But the last two points are unnecessary as well in the sense that this show "is not about the Rebellion, it's about Cassian's journey etc etc etc". The fact that the "subplot", then, is just Mon Mothma trying to finance a couple tiny groups of rebels (hardly even a cell - that Maya Pei Brigade is only 60 people on 6 ships; that's 10 people to a ship when the smallest Rebel ship at the Battle of Atollon was the Braha'tok-class gunship with a crew of 90).
However the fact is that we know what the end result is -- the Rebel Alliance is formed, Cassian becomes a captain in Alliance Intelligence, etc. Right now, the show has nine episodes to conjure up Admiral Raddus's fleet out of nowhere (in Legends, this was the mutiny of the Mon Cala fleet in 1 ABY; they might canonize this, hopefully), show a few Rebel starfighters when as of yet there are none in the show, show the formation of any Rebel group at all other than the disorganized bunches or threadbare networks we've seen so far.
(Dated 23 April 2025, immediately following release of Andor Season 2 Episodes 1, 2, and 3)
damn.

CR92a Assassin-class corvettes were light combat vessels primarily used by the Imperial Navy during the Galactic Civil War. Designed as a military upgrade to the CR90 model, Assassins were heavily armed, carrying turbolasers, laser cannons, a proton torpedo launcher, and a tractor beam emitter, along with capable hyperdrive and shielding. They required a crew of 60-150, depending on ship configuration.

If you are a huge fan of Star Wars ships and space battles (Galactic Civil War era), then I suggest you subscribe to SkyForge on YouTube. They have been releasing various short fan films all centering around Star Wars space battles.
These shorts are all a part of their “Remnant” Series of which 4 shorts have already been released, with more on the way. The quality of these shorts are beyond amazing, both visual and audio. Better than what Hollywood gave us in the sequel trilogy in my honest opinion.
Go check them out!

I never really took notice of The Mantis till now. It is a beautiful ship. Personally, all I want from a Star Wars ship is something I can live on lol. So ships, such as The Ghost, in that class category come to mind. But like you said, there aren't that many beautifully designed ships in Star Wars. I like The Ghost, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite. I also really like the CR90 Corellian ships for some reason
Oo the CR90's thems big ships lol.
One of the killers for me with SOOO many Star Wars ships is that they only ever have like, bunk-style bedrooms. Hi, engineers? I want like, a real bed. For two people. Side-by-side. I don't want my home to feel like a submarine.
Maybe these ships have like, a captain's quarters that we've never seen? But I think that's why I tend towards the luxury cruisers and yachts, because surely, surely they have better sleeping quarters. One would hope. Maybe an attached refresher? That would be nice.

inform me about star wars spaceships pls. as many as u can.
t65-b x-wings are the quintessential star wars ship. fast. maneuverable. sexy. they’re made by incom who makes x-wings but not y-wings or a-wings bc i googled it today
y-wings are the bad star wars ship. slow. not maneuverable. not sexy. they aren’t made by incom.
a-wings are the other -wing and they’re faster than an x-wing but slightly less maneuverable and sexy. they are made by kuat drive yards (KDY) who is pretty cool but not on the CEC’s level
oh fuck i’ve been infected i’m agreeing with the corellians
so now onto some star destroyers! you’ve got your standard imperial-class star destroyer, which is like, probably the most common? tarkin had an imperial-i class called the executrix.
then you have the imperial-ii classes! more commonly referred to as “impstar deuces” at least in legends. i’m not sure about canon. this would be the avenger. from esb. lorth needa’s ship. it’s a bit bigger and better than a standard imperial, much like darth vader.
okay now your third type of ship you’d recognize would be a super star destroyer (SSD) which is like way way bigger. the executor was a super star destroyer, and in fact SSDs were also referred to as executor-class star destroyers.
there is also the venator-class star destroyer which is what the republic used during the clone wars, so these are like, the original. they aren’t as good and can be recognized bc they have a different shape. like a wedge, but slender
yes i had to say that of course i did
ok next is the victory-class star destroyer! these are bigger and better than the impstars, i think. i only know that pash blew one up back in legends.
fun fact about SSDs- one time an a-wing took one out all by itself. well with a little help. yeah.
so anyways, both the star destroyers and the a-wings are manufactured by KDY, as well as...
delta-7 and delta-7b aethersprite-class light inteceptors! i think that’s their name? this is your jedi starfighter from attack of the clones.
one thing the delta-7s, the a-wings, and the star destroyers all have in common (aside from their manufacturer)? their SHAPE! these are all ships that are commonly referred to as being wedge-shaped in various star wars books, because they are all triangles. i guess KDY just really loves wedges.
other notable shipbuilders include the corellian engineering corporation (CEC) which has produced ships such as:
the CR90 corvette. you know, the tantive iv. bail organa’s ship. the one leia was on in a new hope. the one that was under the command of captain raymus antilles. fun fact about CR90s: they are used diplomatically like with bail, but also used to run blockades. they’re reall fast.
the yt line of ships! yt models include:
a yt-1300 light freighter, which is the type of ship the millennium falcon is, though the falcon was heavily modified. a standard yt-1300 is a lot less dangerous, though smugglers like them bc they are very easily modified
a yt-2400 freighter which i believed belonged to this dude named dash rendar and also the millennium falsehood once disguised itself as a yt-2400 with the 2400′s identifying feature being stuffed full of explosives and detachable
they also made a vcx-100 which is a pretty sweet ship. lando seems to think so, at least.
the CEC also produced various star destroyer models for the empire using KDY designs but the corellian ones were better, according to han.
other notable ships include the hammerhead corvette, officially a sphyrna-class corvette which waas used in rogue one. there is also various mon cal cruisers such as home one and the mon remonda.
lambda-class shuttles are the imperial thingy
i will not be going into specifics of the TIE line in this ask, please send another if you would like something in-depth like this but specifically devoted to tie fighters
#only used wookieepedia to see if the avenger was an impstar or an impstar deuce#other than that i just knew this stuff#:)

A Short Essay on the Tartan-Class Patrol Frigate, By Rona Wren-Bridger
Damorian Manufacturing Corporation gave a compelling answer to a question no one asked - can a frigate outpace and outmaneuver starfighters? The Tartan Class was the (expensive) result. Though a sophisticated array of repulsor engines gave it far more maneuverability than would be expected for its size (or its compliment of 70 crew), the focus on basic laser canons over turbolasers (or even torpedo launchers) made it close to useless against anything larger than the starfighters it was engineered to oppose.
To be fair to the shipwrights, the 20 medium laser canons are well placed - few blind spots giving excellent defensive capabilities - and the ability to shift power to improve weapon range compliments the design nicely. Against an unprepared rebel starfighter squadron, it could be more effective than a star destroyer! To the minds of the investors and executives this more than justified the high price tag and cost of repairs.
However, there were two key problems with this reasoning. Firstly, an orbital drydock was required for expansive repairs - as it was too large to fit in a hanger of even a Secutor-Class Star Destroyer, let alone an Imperial-Class. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, as a patrol vessel, it found it hard to disable any more heavily armored ships - against pirate freighters it could do little more than drain their shields and hope they damaged the external systems enough to prevent a hyperspace jump!
In short, the innovative (and fascinating) power-shunt system was utterly wasted on a ship that lacked versatility. A raider-class corvette, or even a CR90, could fulfill a great number of roles with far fewer crew. That said, these smaller ships were not as agile as the Tartan-class - and had a much smaller effective weapons range.
Attempting to salvage the cost of research, Damorian engineers attempted to add heavier weapons to add versatility - to make it more attractive to Admirals and hopefully snag a lucrative Imperial contract or two. While some of these attempts went reasonably well, the power demands of a turbolaser battery caused a high degree of system strain (as the power shunt systems were already pushed to their limits for the base model). While proton torpedo launchers worked far better, this ship had already acquired a reputation for spending more time in drydock than in use - something difficult to shake off, despite a renewed marketing push.
However, after the loss of the Death Star, the vessel found new life in an unexpected role - mine laying. With hyperspace lane “temporary closures” becoming very common, the Tartan-Class’ ability to operate with a low crew compliment for its size gave it sudden prominence as a magnet-mine laying vessel - to brutally enforce Imperial travel restrictions. Here, the mines would shatter larger vessels, while the frigate could handle any starfighters maneuverable enough to dodge the mines.
Buoyed by this newfound success, the Damorian Manufacturing Corporation began to experiment further with the idea of a mine-laying vessel. While the results were highly impressive (and lead to some real breakthroughs), for personal reasons I wish they hadn’t.
Feelings aside, though, the Tartan-C Stealth Frigate is an impressive reworking of the pre-existing model. Further automation reduced the crew compliment still further - to the point where it could be run with only a handful of well trained crew-members (though hardly at peak performance). The engines were extensively baffled. Signatures were masked. The power shunt was even reworked to move power out of the stealth functions and into quickly charging the weapons if the ship was spotted visually!
While mine-laying was still its primary function, a number of prototypes were created that included a launcher designed to fire experimental (and expensive) baffled torpedoes. This allowed the ship to essentially assassinate an unprepared rebel ship - as many sensor suites would not be able to detect the warhead until it had already hit, and others wouldn’t get a reading until the projectile was already dangerously close!
Luckily for many rebels cells, the stealth reworking had a small production run - and none of those prototypes with launchers exist. Not anymore.

I was doing some very mild research on U-wings on wookiepedia, and came across this:
Around 0 BBY,[8] the U-wing Bravo One took part in the extraction of Jyn Erso from a labor camp on the planet of Wobani. Bravo One, piloted by the former Imperial security droid K-2SO, experienced technical difficulties and was unable to jump to hyperspace after the successful liberation of Erso by Extraction Team Bravo. The U-wing then sought refuge in an asteroid belt in the Wobani system to conduct repairs and request assistance from the Alliance Fleet. The X- wing squadron Red Flight came to Bravo One's assistance and attempted to escort it to the CR90 corvette Vigilant. The rendezvous was interrupted by the arrival of an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer and the destruction of the Vigilant. Bravo One was then caught in the Star Destroyer's tractor beam and subsequently freed by Red Flight's assault on the Imperial starship. With repairs complete, Bravo One and Red Flight leapt to hyperspace to rejoin the Alliance Fleet. Bravo One returned to Base One on Yavin 4 to deliver Erso to Mon Mothma and General Davits Draven. [9]
This part was glossed over in the novelization (like two sentences) and I understand why they never put it in the movie, but it would’ve been a pretty cool scene.
#also there's no mention of cassian being on the ship?#and i knew there was speculation about whether or not he was present on wobani when they liberated jyn

Corvettes
Intro
Well finally I am able to talk about what I have been wanting to talk about since the beginning of this blog. The different classes of ships and their comparisons to science fiction counterparts. A corvette( and no not the stylish car) is a small vessel and considered to be the smallest of traditional warships. They are supposedly gunboats which means they carry multiple guns to bombard the coast. Now corvettes these days are also equipped with missiles. Corvettes are usually not for anti-ship warfare but that doesn’t stop the unorthodox from possibilities and that isn’t really applied when it came to Star Wars.

Media Portrayals
I think the most famous corvette would probably be the Tantive IV or the CR90-Corvette. The way the tantive for was designed and armed would at a different level of class ship in our time. The Tantive had two dual turbo lasers and 2 single turbo laser batteries on each side. This would make it fit for light confrontations with pirates and star fighters. It needed a crew from 30 to 165 but it has been shown that it could be flown by just one pilot. While technically not being a military ship it could carry up to 600 passengers. It could travel up to 590 miles per hour due to its 11 ion turbine engines and it had a class 2 hyperdrive. It came with 12 escape craft 8 being standard escape craft as seen in the New Hope and 4 being armed max capacity escape pods. It could carry up to 3,000 tons or could make space to dock and single starfighter and three docking ports. It also came equip with a primary sensor array. It came with dignitary suites, formal eating centers, tech centers, and conference chambers. That being said you could see why this ship was used by politicians and rebels alike.
Our Technology
The Littoral combat ship why technically not considered by the U.S as a corvette other countries would which is good because the U.S has produced a corvette in centuries. The U.S.S Independence happens to belong to this new class of ships. The Independence comes equipped with hellfire missile systems, one mk 110 57 mm gun, four 12.7 mm guns, and one Raytheon SeaRam. This armament allows the ship to be effective for small ships and the missile systems allows it to hit even further away while still being precise. It needs a crew of 43 and can carry an extra 35 for missions. As for its engines it had two MTU Friedrichshafen 20V 8000 Series diesel engines, two General Electric LM2500 gas turbines, two American VULKAN lightweight multiple-section carbon fiber propulsion shaft lines, four Wärtsilä waterjets, and four diesel generators. All of this allowed it to reach speeds up to 51 miles per hour. It was able to carry up to 210 tons. It could also carry two MH-60R/S Seahawks. It carried a variety of electronic warfare systems, decoys, and sensors.

Conclusion
Well now we know, both corvettes really play to their class of ship but we have to remember that the CR90 is not a military vessel unless modified and it’s weapons still would have very little effect on other ships even of its class while the the Independence being able to precisely hits targets on and even further than the coast while still being able to slug it out with other ships of its size. Therefore the Independence being more of a corvette.
