Calendula officinalis (pot marigold) and Megachilidae (leafcutter bee)
Pot marigolds are originally from Southern Europe and they've been cultivated for thousands of years, not only as a pretty flower but also as a medicinal herb. Marigolds were used extensively in ancient Roman, Greek, Middle Eastern and Indian cuisines and extracts were also used in dyes and cosmetics. The 'pot' in pot marigold refers to a cooking pot.
Leafcutter bees can be a little hard to identify from the top but if they stick their abdomen up in the air (photo 4) you can see the specialized hairs called scopa which they use to store pollen. If these bees start chewing holes in you garden plants, insecticides won't do any good. Leafcutter bees don't eat leaves - they use them as building material for their ground nests. Like any self-respecting bee, leafcutter bees go straight for the nectar and pollen, and show absolutely zero interest in the salad menu.

Why is marigold flower extract so famous for eye health?
Marigold flower extract is derived from the marigold plant’s flowers, also known as Calendula officinalis. The section is typically obtained using solvents or other methods to separate the active compounds from the plant material. Marigold extract is often used in skincare and cosmetic products due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It is also used in dietary supplements and herbal remedies for its potential health benefits, such as reducing inflammation, promoting wound healing, and supporting eye health. The extract contains active ingredients, including carotenoids such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and other flavonoids and triterpenes.
Specification information:
The specification of marigold flower extract can vary depending on the manufacturer and intended use of the product. However, the most common active compounds in marigold flower extract are lutein and zeaxanthin. The percentage of these compounds in the section can range from 5% to 90%.
Here are some common specifications for marigold extract:
Lutein content: 5%, 10%, 20%, 50%, or 80%
Zeaxanthin content: 5%, 10%, or 20%
Lutein and zeaxanthin combined content: 5%, 10%, 20%, 50%, or 80%
The solvent used for extraction: ethanol, methanol, or hexane
Purity: 95%, 98%, or 99%
Function:
Marigold flower extract can be used in various ways depending on the intended purpose. Here are some common ways to use marigold extract:
Skincare: it often uses in skincare products due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It can be added to facial creams, serums, and masks to help soothe and protect the skin. Apply the product containing marigold flower extract to the face as directed.
Eye health: it is rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, which are essential for eye health. It can be used in dietary supplements or eye drops to support healthy vision. Follow the instructions on the product label for dosage and usage.
Wound healing: it has been used traditionally to promote wound healing. It can be applied topically to wounds or added to wound dressings to help reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair. Follow the instructions of the wound care professional or product label for usage.
Cooking: it can be a natural food coloring, particularly for egg yolks and baked goods. However, it’s important to note that marigold flower extract is typically highly concentrated and should be used sparingly to avoid an overpowering taste or color.
It’s important to note that the usage and dosage of marigold flower extract may vary depending on the product and intended use.
Useful literature
Especially regarding eye health, there is much literature on this aspect, such as:
“Lutein and Zeaxanthin Isomers in Eye Health and Disease” by John M. Nolan, Stephen Beatty, and David R. H. Burns. Annual Review of Nutrition, 2013.
This review article discusses the role of lutein and zeaxanthin in promoting eye health, particularly in preventing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The authors highlight several studies demonstrating the efficacy of lutein and zeaxanthin supplementation in reducing the risk of AMD and improving visual function. Marigold flower extract is a rich source of lutein and zeaxanthin and is often used in dietary supplements for eye health.
“Effects of dietary zeaxanthin and lutein supplementation on macular pigment optical density in postmenopausal women” by Kelly M. Greenberg et al. Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014.
This study investigated the effects of lutein and zeaxanthin supplementation on macular pigment optical density (MPOD) in postmenopausal women. The participants were given a daily supplement containing marigold flower extract, lutein, and zeaxanthin for six months. The results showed a significant increase in MPOD in the supplementation group compared to the placebo group, suggesting that marigold flower extract may help improve macular health.
“A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of oral antioxidant supplement therapy in patients with dry eye syndrome” by Kazuo Tsubota et al. Clinical Ophthalmology, 2016.
This study investigated the efficacy of an oral antioxidant supplement containing marigold flower extract, vitamins C, E, and other antioxidants in treating dry eye syndrome. The participants were given the supplement or a placebo for 12 weeks. The results showed that the supplement group significantly improved tear production and subjective symptoms compared to the placebo group, suggesting that marigold flower extract may help improve dry eye symptoms.
These are just a few examples of the literature on marigold extract and eye health. It’s important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the effects of marigold extract on eye health and determine optimal dosages.

To quickly note, I received this for free from Picky and VIDIVICI for my honest review.
Tumblr media
This product contains 120 ml (4.05 oz) and has a pretty noticeable slightly perfume-y scent.
Tumblr media
The cleanser has kind of a fluffy creamy texture.
Tumblr media
After adding water, the cleanser is quite creamy and soft on the skin.
Tumblr media
Once it's rinsed clean, I really noticed a slightly squeaky clean feeling, it wasn't irritating but it really made it a little bit difficult to rinse off of the skin. Luckily it didn't leave a residue or feel dry after rinsing.
Recommended use is to apply over a wet face with gentle massaging motions. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. After using, first to note, this has a very strong fragrance, I'd describe it as floral and kind of perfumey. If this is going to be a problem, please pass on this cleanser. The ingredients however are pretty nice with a few irritants and many beneficial ingredients for any skin type. I have dry/sensitive leaning skin and I didn't have any issues. And as I mentioned above, this cleanser does have a kind of squeaky feeling when rinsing it off which I like to avoid as normally that's quite drying for me. But, my skin felt soft and smooth after using, minus any residue or film. It does a nice job in a double cleanse and removes all of the makeup left after an oil cleanser quite efficiently and when using a cotton pad and wiping it on your skin with toner, there's no makeup leftover at all. You can also get away with using very little product, it spreads well and it does bubble up very well. The texture is soft and pleasant to the touch. I'd recommend this to anyone with oily, combination, and dry skin, but if you have very sensitive skin or just don't care for fragrance, there are other options out there.
What I like: I really enjoyed how smooth my skin was after using it and the soft creamy texture of the cleanser. I like the ingredients a lot and feel like it really cleanses the skin and removes any leftover makeup or sunscreen well. It also doesn't leave a film or residue once rinsed off. What I don't like: this product has a very strong scent, there are several irritants and this has a noticeable squeaky feeling on the skin and it's harder to rinse off as a result.
Pros:
Hydrating
Non-drying
Nice ingredients
Lovely texture
Removes makeup and sunscreen well
Doesn't leave a film or residue
Cons:
Fragrance
Some irritants
Kind of difficult to rinse off
Would I buy this?
Probably not
Rating: 7.5/10

Calendula Oil Market to Witness Remarkable Growth by 2030
Calendula oil is a natural oil derived from the petals of the calendula (Calendula officinalis) flower, also known as marigold. The oil is obtained through a process of maceration or extraction, where the flowers are soaked in a carrier oil, such as olive oil or sunflower oil, to extract the beneficial compounds.
Tumblr media
For Download Sample Report Link :https://www.marketinforeports.com/Market-Reports/483895/calendula-oil-market
Calendula is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, and anti-inflammatory compounds, which make it a popular ingredient in skincare products, particularly for sensitive or irritated skin. It is believed to have a soothing and healing effect on the skin, helping to reduce inflammation, redness, and irritation.
In addition to its skincare benefits, is also used in alternative medicine for a variety of purposes. It is believed to have antimicrobial and antifungal properties, making it useful for treating minor cuts and wounds. It is also used to relieve menstrual cramps and digestive issues, although more research is needed to confirm these effects.
Calendula oil can be used topically by applying it directly to the skin, or it can be mixed with other carrier oils or essential oils for a customized skincare blend. It is important to note that while generally safe for most people, those with allergies to plants in the daisy family should avoid using it. It is always recommended to perform a patch test before using any new skincare product.

Organic Flowers with their therapeutic benefits you should know
Whether in the form of a single flower, a lavish bouquet received as a gift, or a gift from nature found by the side of the road, the alluring perfume and beauty have the potential to soothe, uplift, and touch our hearts.
Tumblr media
It has been demonstrated that flower therapy can help with cognitive problems like dyslexia, stuttering, and memory loss. The therapeutic characteristics of organic flowers can be used to treat physical conditions that result from psychological problems, including allergies, asthma, hypertension, eating disorders, sleeplessness, and migraines. They counteract anger, stress, and fear.
Here, find the best flowers having therapeutic benefits.
 Hibiscus
It is often known as the "shoeblack plant," and has red, pink, white, yellow, and orange petals and foliage. In Ayurvedic teas that help decrease blood pressure, hibiscus is frequently utilized. Additionally, it helps with hair loss, hypertension, cough, piles, diarrhea, and hemorrhaging. It is one of the top effective organic flowers as a contraceptive.
 Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
Calendulas are easy to cultivate in cool weather and bloom for weeks or months if you remove seed heads before they mature. All calendulas are, whether you prefer them to be orange, yellow, or somewhere in between. As a "poor man's saffron," many cooks snip a few calendula petals into eggs or rice, while poultry-fed calendula flowers produce eggs with deeper yellow yolks. Although calendulas make excellent cut flowers, their best application may be topical lotions or oils for burnt or damaged skin.
 Roses
They are renowned for their powerful moisturizing qualities, making them ideal for dry, older skin. Beauty experts say rose extract is "a cell rejuvenator that helps decrease scars, stretch lines, and wrinkles." It soothes swollen or sunburned skin and mends fractured veins.

Jasmine: A Natural Stress Reducer
As it controls respiration and blood pressure, jasmine oil is used to treat depression and improve mood. Jasmine oil is beneficial for reviving tired muscles and relieving body aches and pains. Jasmine is frequently used to treat ulcers and strengthen the digestive tract. Additionally, it eases anxiety and sleep problems.
 Lotus
Lotuses are solitary, big, white, or pink flowers. It has a significant spiritual and cultural significance. It has been demonstrated to be successful in lowering body temperature, thirst, skin conditions, burning sensation, boils, diarrhea, and bronchitis.
 Lavender
Although tiny, violet blossoms are abundant. The most well-known lavender attribute is its characteristic scent, which is prized for its relaxing properties.
Lavender is a very enticing addition to a range of meals, including baked products, infused syrups, liqueurs, herbal teas, dry spice rubs, and herb mixes because of its color and aroma.
Finally, you should buy organic flowers only from a natural, organic source. Even though many companies nowadays claim to be the top cultivators of organic flowers and associated organic items, you might not be satisfied with their flowers once you've used them.
